    Today we have a request, to put the Enterprise A against a Galor Class.
    As we know Starfleet ships are more advanced than Cardassian, however I don't think a 100 year old Connie Refit will stand much of a chance
    against a Galor.
    This is Bridge Commander though, let's see what happens!
    Played in Star Trek Bridge Commander Remastered.
    Thanks for watching!

    There are some misconceptions in the comments about the Galor I can clear up: 1) *There is no standard Galor. There are numerous variants of a common, rugged space-frame, that have been upgraded across 50 years and counting. So when one refers to a Galor Class they need to be specific.* The Galor frame is easy to mass produce and upgrade, therefore it is ideal for the Cardassians and their resource poor space. 2) Prior to the DW, there are three Galor variants, which are considerably different from one another in terms of power and date of build, they are the Galor Types I-III. 2) The Galor Type I dates from 2320 or so, and is not terribly powerful, they are a match for a Miranda only. 3) The Galor Type II was an improved version and was the most numerous model during the 2340s-early 2360s and the primary warship during the Cardassian Border Wars. Type IIs are around as powerful as the TNG era Excelsior, but maybe more rugged. Around 3-4 Type IIs could threaten a Galaxy Class. Considering that the vast majority of Starfleet in the 2350s consists of legacy ships, the Type II is actually quite competitive. 4) The Galor Type III was introduced in the early 2360s and is a dramatic improvement over the Type II. It became the standard Cardassian medium cruiser. It has very strong shields and moderately powerful weapons. Type IIIs are superior to the Excelsiors by a moderate margin but not quite as powerful as a Nebula Class. Two Type IIIs can threaten a Galaxy Class. It is believed a sub-variant of the Type III was further upgraded to a Heavy Cruiser variant. 5) During the Dominion War, the Dominion upgrades all the Galor Class ships. New build Galors, and they built 1000s, and the Galor III are considerably upgraded. New reactors, better warp core which in turn powers better shields and more power to weapons. Their firepower in particular is heavily upgraded and they are equipped with good torpedoes and *equipped with a Deflector Cannon serving as a Phaser Lance.* These are sometimes called a Galor Type IV, with Phaser Lances that can one-shot kill attack ships and destroyers, and that can cripple cruisers with a couple shots. They are the backbone of the Dominion cruiser squadrons and are quite dangerous. 6) Towards the end of the War, another even heavily armed and protected Galor was in development and just starting production, incorporating all the latest Dominion and Cardassian warp cores, shields and weapons. They had Dominion computers and transporters, Cardassian regenerative shielding (seen on the OWPs), heavy polaron beam cannons and torpedoes, along with standard improved Cardassian phasers, Cardassian quantum and plasma torpedoes, etc. They nearly matched the Keldon III but only 20 were made before the War ended.
    If one were to use numbers to rate the relative strength of the Galor variants on a scale of 1000, with the Galaxy Class as 1000 (using a DITL scale), they would be:
    Type I (2325): 200
    Type II (2350): 330
    Type III (2364): 470
    Type IV (2373): 630
    Type V (2375): ??? Est. 800+
    Keldon I (2360): 550
    Keldon II (Obsidian Variant from 2371 became standard): 730
    Keldon III (2373, DW upgrade of the Keldon II): 880
    For comparison, a TNG era Miranda is 200, Excelsior is like 300, a Nebula Class (with multipurpose module) 750, Ambassador Class 675, Kvort Class 450, Vorcha Class 900, Jem Hadar battlecruiser 970, Sovereign Class 2200. One sees why the Galor IIIs and IVs in large numbers posed such a serious threat.

      As examples, our good friends at Trek Wars have broken down a number of sources and quantified them for Galors and others to compare the venerable Galor to other ships in their class-type of destroyers and light/medium cruisers. Note, they do not take Cardassian torpedoes into account due to a lack of data as they are not seen on screen, though the Cardassians obviously have them as mentioned in dialogue, so all attack values are beam weapons only, numbers might double if it is established the Cardies have moderate launchers. Also note, Trek Wars has rated Cardassian plasma torpedoes at the same power as Quantums, but the lack of data precludes their use, so I peg the torpedoes at a every conservative 50% of starfleet ships of the same class-type if one wants:

    The only issue I see with Remastered balance is that it is made to be fair according to ship categories gameplay-wise for the most part. That makes multiplayer combat and other kinds fairer... until you get to issues like a huge age gap, which makes situations where one should definetely stomp the other, but because both are considered cruisers and the other is considered a flagship it makes the results totally inaccurate. A Galor is somewhere between an Ambassador and a Galaxy in terms of shielding and combat prowess - perhaps a TMP-Era constitution which had received 24th century technology and retrofits, like a DS9-Era Miranda, could have such chances, but not the original Enterprise-A.

    The Galor Class models available are not well balanced. There isn't a single one available at the moment that even differentiates between the wildly different variants. Any newer Galor Type III or the DW variant is a very tough ship. They were very lethal to any cruiser class or smaller during the War. The Galors were one-shoot killing modern ships during the War. A Connie II should have no chance. Even prior to the War the Galor Type III was a very good medium cruiser. Two Type IIIs were considered a very credible threat to the Enterprise D. I would be happy to advise on a new Galor model for a Dominion War or post-War Galor IV variant. Also, the Cardassians rely on a primary/secondary battery make-up. They have a few heavy cannons to quickly deal damage and secondaries. None of the BC Galor variants accurately portray this. Every Galor model is basically defanged of their heavy weapons.

    There are hundreds of Klingon BoP vessels all configured to the standard of what ever house built them on behalf of the Klingon Defence Force and they seemed the equal to a Galor class during the early Klingon/Cardassian war. This was part of the reason Gul Dukat transfered his command onto a CAPTURED BoP because the current Galor class were too few in number and NOT up to the standard against the Klingon fleets (also the civilian governement was too weak to fight effectivly)
    It was only once the Dominon began upgrading the Galor fleet that Cardassian vessels became a threat again.
    Connie (refit) was the standard heavy cruiser for late 23rd Century Starfleet and was replaced by the Excellcisor class as the main heavy cruiser of the early to mid 24th Century.
    The problem is that Starfleet is primarily a defense and exploration force (As defined by Roddenberry) they might have ships that fight but they werent dedicated warships unlike the Cardassians and the Klingons. However when they build something that can fight, it often kicks heavier ass than enemies expect. There was at least one Connie fighting at Wolf 359.

Pre TOS / during Pike the Enterprise had laser cannon. The blue firing banks of TOS were the first Federation phasers. Ditl breaks it down well.

      @@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 makes sense, where did you get that tidbit out of curiosity? I based my judgement off the TNG episode “The Wounded”. Nebula totally throws the galors around. @@Ol-T1864 I can't speak for him, but there are several really good videos about the Cardassian Fleet that break down their stats. Venom Geek also does some work, and they all point to extremely varying strengths between the Galor sub-types. A Galor III is essentially 4-5x more powerful than the Galor I. And that was before the Dominion got their hands on them.

    • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069
      @crownprincesebastianjohano7069 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Ol-T1864 There are a ton of reference sources, and also from TNG and DS9 episodes. In "The Wounded" the Galors are weak, but it has been written that the Trager was a Galor Type II which is a destroyer. The Galaxy Class is a battleship, it is going to dominate cruisers and destroyers. The Nebula Class is a heavy cruiser... so it doesn't actually say as much as one would think. Differences between ship types are important to note. However, in the TNG episode "Ensign Ro," Riker comments on being faced by two Galors, "Galor Class. Type III. Top of the Line." and it is inferred that the odds are a lot more even. Through DS9, it appears the Galors are upgraded from the TNG models, and the Dominion War sees the Galors as vastly more powerful than the TNG era. This is best explained in books, tech manuals and lore. But also videos like this: ruclips.net/video/vk3kCaLmiwI/видео.html

      @@Ol-T1864 But consider that the vast majority of Starfleet in TNG were made up of older ships like the Excelsior and Miranda and the Galor II to them is a threat. So if a Galor II is a threat to 90% of Starfleet, it is a reasonably useful and powerful ship, especially since the Cardassians have so many Galors. Add to that the Galor Type IIIs coming out in numbers by 2366 and the Cardassians are not a pushover at all. Sure, the few Galaxys and modest numbers of Nebulas will be crushing Galor IIs left and right, but the other Galor IIs and IIIs will be busily destroying the older ships. One begins to see why the Border Wars ended in stalemate.

      @@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 BoPs, bug ships, and Breen frigates are all weak ships defensively. Bug ships in particular are known to have glaring weaknesses that could be exploited by a former ally who knows about them. So the point is moot.

    • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069
      @crownprincesebastianjohano7069 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@AJUniverse No, it isn't moot, the reason being there is plenty of comparative analysis available thanks to the widespread use of the Bug Ship in a number of battles. What is moot is your inference that the only reason the Bug Ship was easily destroyed is because of Cardassian knowledge of Dominion ships. This theory would make more sense if the Bug Ships were the only ones we see being destroyed by the Cardassians in one-shot. But they aren't, allied and enemy ships alike share them fate. I didn't add all the ships destroyed by the Cardassians in the same manner, but they also include Steamrunner and Akira Class ships being toasted in one shot by Galors in "Sacrifice of Angels." Why does it matter, because it establishes the power of the DW era Cardassian heavy beam cannons. We see plenty of Bug Ships and Breen ships hit by Type X Phasers from heavier Starships that don't destroy them with one-shot. That suggests that the power of the Galor's forward heavy cannon is on-par with the only other system we seeing one-shotting BoPs and Bug Ships: DS9's Type XI Heavy Phaser Emplacements as featured in "Way of the Warrior" and "Call to Arms."

Bonus: Two Hidekis destroy a Miranda in four shots of their after cannons: 0:30. Clearly, Galor's one-shotting ships, from attack ships to heavy cruisers, is not just a fluke. There is a consistency in the power of that forward SWD Lance that puts it in the same league as the heaviest beam weapons in Star Trek.
