'Didn't design it to look cool'...and yet, the design is awesome.
it IS cool.
"I designed this not to look cool"
You failed...
Major Fail at Not Making it look Cool....
He failed hard on that point...
A complete and udder failure to be sure
@@dreadedpixel9022 I didn't realize that cattle were going to be a part of the fan film. It's utter btw.
@@travisfoster6473 well at least it isn't bullshit like discovery
Looks like an old military vessel. Love it.
This is what I always imagined early Federation ships would have been like, I applaud the thought and respect for canon went into this - but it makes me feel all the sadder that Star Trek has missed opportunities in the past to actually use designs like this.
that's what happens when the people n charge don't care about the fans, only an agenda
Yeah, I think the designs in ENT were too preoccupied with looking "like Star Trek" and missed out on a lot of cool opportunities for the show to have a real character of its own. On the opposite end, I think Disco did too much to create its own design character and really lost a lot of its connections to the rest of Star Trek, ending up having just another generic sci-fi aesthetic. It really is a shame, especially when we see fans making amazing stuff like this.
@@a.morphous66 This vessel is a nice compromise and I would have prefer something like this to the NX Enterprise we eventually got.
@@josiahzabel8596 having a message is entirely unrelated to caring about the fans. Deep space 9 and TOS had agendas. If you’re complaining that STAR TREK has progressive politics, you should start with Roddenberry not Abrams or whatever other nonsense.
This is one of my favorite star ship designs ever. I love how much detail and research you have put into this. I can't wait to see the finished movie.
I must express my profuse admiration for this design, and the effort that went into it. The design feels so complete, functional and compact, making it look like it is packed to the brim with real equipment and machinery, everything it could possibly need. Not only that, but it is the perfect representation of an early future Earth ship, what with the clear ISS influences and scientifically accurate designs. This is exactly what I imagine future starships would look like. Very, very well done.
Do you plan on modelling the full interior?
Agree on every point, been following the project for a while and still just blown away by the quality and consistency of this design. What I love most though is the use of verticality, something that just gives any Trek ship that authentic, classic feel and impressive sense of scale etc!
Can't wait to see the ship in action :)
+Ché Walden Well said.
I came here to say essentially the same thing, but I would've worded it way worse.
Dantius I must say that I agree with you 100% my friend ! This concept is one of a kind !
1:20 "A thermal control system for the warp plasma conduits."
Maximum nerdum.
*technobabble intensifies*
That's just the thing, @Optillian. This isn't "technobabble", like the vast majority of technology in Trek. This is based on REAL engineering principles.
@@solarisone1082 No it isn't. Warp plasma is, by definition, technobabble. Plasma is not a thing. Plasma is a state of matter. Plasma is an ionized gas consisting of positive ions and free electrons in proportions resulting in more or less no overall electric charge, typically at low pressures (as in the upper atmosphere and in fluorescent lamps) or at very high temperatures (as in stars and nuclear fusion reactors).
Since a fusion reactor behaves VERY differently from an antimatter reactor, the very idea of using plasma as a medium in which to carry the energy is ridiculous. First, antimatter reactors do not produce any heat or plasma. Second, the energy released (what form of energy it might be) is 100% energy. This means you would NOT need to cool unless it was pure thermal energy. If it were you certainly wouldn't want to reduce the available energy. Third, unless you are intending to use thermal energy (which would mean you want ALL of it), the heat produced by any sort of power source would be recycled into the process or radiated away from the source directly.
@@protoborg - the annihilation of matter and antimatter releases radiant energy (or EM radiation). whatever handwavium roddenberryistic physics is involved in generating a warp field, it will require that released EM to interact with matter in order to be put to work. when EM interacts with matter it produces material excitement which eventually and inevitably translates as heat.
basic thermodynamics limits "recycling" the heat back into the process, as heat tends to move from higher concentration to lower concentration. And vacuum sucks (sorry) as a medium for passive radiative cooling.
so, yeah, the ship would need some kind of active cooling system, preferably located so as to prevent heat from the warp nacelles from diffusing into the main hull and living spaces.
@@gordonpromish9218 I'm not sure how you could be any more wrong.
First, an antimatter reactor doesn't RELEASE shit. The reaction CONVERTS the matter and antimatter INTO energy. It sure as hell isn't electromagnetic energy. That would make the containment field all but useless. Second, you can't assume the energy is of a frequency that would induce heat in matter. Only certain frequencies of energy are capable of inducing heat in an object. Unless the reaction produces nothing but IR, microwave, or ultraviolet radiation, you won't get any heat. Microwaves only work in things which contain liquid. Ultraviolet comes from large light sources. Infrared must be highly concentrated. In other words, the likelihood of an antimatter reactor generating heat directly is astonishingly slim.
You don't know how a nuclear reactor works, do you? Most of the heat produced is recycled to increase efficiency. As for the heat going from high concentration to low, that is under normal conditions and is how heat works ON ITS OWN. Man-made systems can do whatever the hell they want with the heat. That is the whole principle behind a heat pump, you fucking idiot! You do realize "active" cooling is all about using the cold of space to cool the system down, right? The ISS passes a high pressure ammonia through huge radiators to release tons of IR radiation. Now why do you suppose that is? Could it be because space is fucking cold as hell?! A starship is moving a whole hell of a lot faster. Thus, it needs no active cooling system as the heat would simply bleed away into space. Plus, starships routinely spend long periods of time in deep space away from radiant sources of heat. In other words, they get really bloody cold on the outside. Also, whatever heat might be produced by the various systems on-board are how they keep the crew from freezing to death. Space is at a temperature of -455 F. That is 2.7 degrees above ABSOLUTE zero.
The ship would NOT need any kind of active cooling system in deep space as the cold of space works just fine to cool the ship. As a matter of fact, the ship needs HEATERS in order to keep the crew from freezing to death. If the warp nacelles did produce heat, the heat would be routed throughout the ship as an easy way of keeping the crew and ship's systems from freezing.
FYI, space at the upper edge of the atmosphere (and on the surface of the light side of the moon) is 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, that's only because they are in direct "view" of the light of the sun.
this ship definitely has the feel of a pre tos starship, my idea of a pre tos ship was always informed by a tos era novel where such a ship is found and described as being of a similar shape to the Enterprise but smaller and with much exposed components. Roddenberrys ethos for design was that the visual simplicity indicated the high state of advancement of the 1701, making the Pacific right in line with that concept.
Your design and attention to detail is brilliant! I am really looking forward to your fan film!
And it has 4(?) sister ships... Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, Antarctic...

@@chrissonofpear1384"... And don't call me Shirley!"
Outstanding! My God, the details! And every subtle feature has a practical, logical function. Thanks for sharing this.
Just for mentioning the Space Battleship Yamato gets you a like from me, but now I know that you even incorporated a piece of it into your design is just marvelous
I'm not sold on the upper observation deck being to manually check the nacelles. If so then the windows should be more to the sides and are not needed at the front. I also think that if the nacelles were showing visible signs of damage that can't be picked up by monitoring systems then you're probably screwed. It would make more sense if the windows were more oriented to the sides and had a function such as manual oversight of the nacelles being attached to the ship.
Great ship though and thanks for the heads up about the film.
I absolutely love your design philosophy for 201, you have created an awesome star trek meets hard sci-fi reimagining of the original concepts that still seem plausible within universe.
Your design looks like something that we could actually have in the next century. I love it!! You designed it like an engineer might. I share your vision for more realism. And you said you didn't design it to be cool? Guess what - this is waaayyy cooler than anything I have seen since the Constitution and Excelsior classes. Masterfully done!!
I must express my gratitude for posting such an incredible detailed overview. I think this is a great new take on starship design and functionality. I am especially impressed by the modular design of different fixtures, especially with engineering and the bridge. I think the idea of more modular equipment is an idea that needs more exploration in Star Trek, and scifi in general, and this is a great example of it.
I hope that this project continues to grow and develop, and I look forward to more updates.
This is the living dream of every technically-minded boy who grew up watching Trek. You beat me to it! BRILLIANT work, sir. Simply brilliant!
I bought the blueprints and the TNG techmanual when i was a kid.
This is just fantastic, I love your version of star trek and your reasoning behind your model. I can not wait to see some kind of original sci-fi from you and your group.
+Matthew Tackett I can't wait to share some original sci-fi with you all! There's definitely stuff in the works, but can't let myself get too distracted from the current goal!
Why didn't you go with more of a gold lighting for the basards instead of totaly covering them and do them in embossed strips on each side of each of the domes. do like your design though, great job!
This feels like a mix between Starfleet and UNSC design
Man I love this ship!
This is the third of your videos I have watched. The first two were excellent, but this one knocked the ball out of the park. I subscribed to your channel because of the superiority of this video and the care and attention to detail you lavished on this spacecraft. This is best of the best quality. Thank you!
Your description of the ship, its components, and their purpose has really fed my appreciation for the design.
She's a gorgeous vessel, I would love to be able to explore her corridors.
I applaud you for placing the Nacelles so close to the main hull instead of the typical designs where they're sticking WAY out like wings.
So great to seefunctionality, real-world tech and era-specific canon referenced in a sci-fi ship design. I wish recent Trek designers put this much effort and craftsmanship into their designs
I think this looks awesome and adding some realism to the design makes actual sense to the function of the entire ships operating sections as if it were real in life...great job..
Cool, unique design-from somebody whose been imagining Star Trek ships for forty years!
I absolutely love that you, and people like you, put so much thought and time into projects like this. Thank you.
I'm absolutely blown away at this design, it's beautiful and smart,if was in charge, you would be lead designer for all star trek...
I've been watching some of your videos of your custom ship designs and they're fantastic! I really like the realism you put into your designs. Every bit of the ship has a logical purpose and function, and it's refreshing to see the use of simple, sleek and practical geometric shapes like spheres, cylinders and boxes instead of the typical "sports car" designs that have endured for the past 30 years or so.
Thanks for all the hard work that went into making this ship looking so realistic!
I have to say this design is quite awesome. The connection to contemporary Earth is probably my favorite part. Especially, because it is done without sacrificing the core features of what make a star trek vessel unique. Thank you for time and effort in this and sharing it with us.
I love how much thought you put into this, and the aesthetic is amazing. It's really inspired me in my own work (which is nothing compared to this haha), thank you! :D
Like the thoughtfulness, and how the main bay gives you an indicator light on the giant AA battery container😁
I like this ship and all of the thought process put into it's design. Nice work.
Your work is incredible. I'm so amazed by your attention to the details. Great model. Keep it coming. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love this ship design, it's very impressive and good to see people designing something they love. Very good job on the design buddy.
All I can say is Awesome!!!
I could listen to this kind of stuff for hours & hours.
I can actually see the Pioneer Class from STO being an evolution of the Pacific's design.
Great aesthetic and well thought out design. I totally dig it.
The "whiskers" off the saucer could be long range HF radio/subspace antennae. This is akin to modern day horizontal HF antennae projecting off the decks of aircraft carriers.
Wrong. Aircraft carriers are not travelling through the dust filled expanses of space. Anything sticking off the side of a spaceship is going to either rip loose from inertia or get torn off by the dust it collects as the ship moves through space. Plus, why the fuck would anyone use radio to communicate across the vastness of space? Radio waves are VERY slow. That's why Neil Armstrong had trouble communicating with Earth from the Moon. There is no way in hell Star Fleet would use radio to communicate across thousands of light years.
Excellent forethought, excellent design, excellent execution of the model. I sure hope this fanfilm survives the new filming limitations and also that the character acting, cinematography and writing is of the same level of quality! :) Bravo!
Bro, this is bad ass! One of the coolest looking starships I've ever seen! You did excellent work on the design!
I can fully agree with the other comments, this ship is really AMAZING. :D
An amazing well thought out design would love a deck plan and interior schematic. I really like the modular aspects of the ship and the upper observation area adds a nod to the space battleship Yamato. Great work!
GORGEOUS. I wish more starship designers made ships this way, for PRACTICALITY.
This is an amazing design, very thoughtfull and detailed as well. If this ship would have been in Star Trek, from the first sight it would be one of my favorites, maybe the favorite ship design, bravo!
of all the things I've seen and its a lot, I really like this, I would say this is my fav new ship, your thought process is absolutely spot on, the modular design is brilliant, its refreshing to see this grounded design with practical concept
Great detail work here man! And the narration/explanation is pretty good too! Well done.
I hope I don't miss this show. So much thought into the design of the Pacific and the modularity is the most impressive detail in its design. If anything went wrong, it's much easier to replace a module and continue on while the module was repaired, upgraded or refurbished after so many hours of use. When you add to that the fact that Engineering and the bridge are modular in design and I think NASA might approach things in much the same way. Great job!
Dude, that looks utterly amazing. It looks like something I would actually see on Star Trek.
Wow the detailing on this is fantastic.
I'm a huge fan of design with purpose and not just "it looks cool." If something can be both it's even better.
There's a subconscious sense of realism that comes from designs that have functional intent that a lot of scifi lacks.
Then things are just blobs and shapes without meaning our brains tend to dismiss them as fake.
What are you using to model and what are you using to show it off in for the video?
Also what's the poly count like? It previews really well in real time.
Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
I use 3ds Max to model and to do my normal rendering, but here I'm just doing a screen-capture of Sketchfab to make the video.
Love the detail on the ship. Well thought out and planned.
Incredible! Just incredible. Can't wait to see more!
Been meaning to say this for years.... this is by far the best thing you've done. I love the greeblies! Love em.....
Bravo!! An excellent, thoughtful meditation on early starship development. Really like the way your design exhibits elements from existing space tech & as part of advanced starship tech. I've been a ST fan since the early 70s & have long imagined what the beginning of warp drive might have looked like before the era of Federation Starships. When the first starships would look clunky not sexy. Your design goes a little beyond that stage of course but it has a great utilitarian look to it like the panels & antennae et al actually 'do' something. Very enjoyable.
this is amazing work, the detail and thought is beyond what I've ever seen I wish i had the skills to do this
Wow. That is really detailed. Beautifully done!
Another incredible video EC! Can't wait to see her in action.
I love how much work you have put into this.
Wow this is cool. It really captures a sense of transition from ENT to TOS.
I would love to see your original Sci-Fi stuff!
Noted! I'll see what I can do! :D
@@ECHenry Im starting to see some People are Theorising that a particular Star Trek Online ship is starting to bare resemblence and at the same time awsome potential as being a unique evolution of your ships design. That particular STO ship in question being the Pioneer class which many belive would be a fitting evolution of your ships design.
Thanks for the ship walk through. Really nice work
I love these videos, subscribed!
It'd be really cool to see some of your own sci-fi stuff. The sheer amount of thought you put into every part of your designs is awesome.
Glorious, truly. Fantastic work...
I love the design of this ship! Honestly, I wish it could be used in the movies and the new TV show. This is a great design!
5:02 _This detail here is a tractor beam emitter. And I textured it with a car headlight, but it's a tractor beam._ :D
I wish this was the new series instead of Discovery, your ideas and design elements make far more sense then what I saw in the trailers for that show
very impressed with your work, thanks for putting it out there.
This is a fantastic design that integrates Trak with modern US Navy, real space and just a bit of Yamato. Excellent ship, I'd love to see your other non trek designs.
It's been a few years since I saw this video, but I wanted to write this post.
This is honestly one of the most beautiful Star Trek designs i've ever seen. I know you designed her to function first and foremost, but honestly that worked to her advantage. Pacific feels great.
In a lot of ways, what Pacific looks like as an overall production is what I would have preferred Enterprise to have looked like back in the day. Far more Space shuttle NASA with navy influences. Get away from the traditional Trek look.
With the spires and all the greeblies this actually gives me a NOSTROMO vibe. Very very cool.
Looks absolutely amazing! Amazing job
Your ship is vey impressive and beautful to behold! Amazing work!
A really detailed look at the life support module for engineering is long overdue in the Trek universe, you seem like the right person to fill that vacuum. I am deeply impressed with your work. Hopefully you will contract with Indy film makers like myself at a reasonable rate. I think your 3D models could enhance many low budget films. Bravo sir!
Looks better than Discovery. :)
FAR better than discovery!
That's not that hard to do, the Discovery is but ugly.
Lol, he could have put nacelles on a turd and it would look better than Discovery.
Damn straight
get a fucking life.
Wow, this thing looks amazing. I love the amount of surface detail on. I'd love to print this out on my 3D printer.
French ST fan here, the fun fact is that we already use the term hypoer atomic in the dismally bad translation they made for the movies Wrath of Kahn and Search for Spock for Warp speed. Yes you heard that right, the accurate translation of warp is distorsion ans wasn't used before TNG came out, still wasn't used in movies until Nemesis ! In ST Voyage Home to Insurrection the "Hyper atomique" translation was replaced by "Hyper Explonentiel" because the "Hyper atomique Exponentiel" was supposed to be the Excelsior Transwarp translation in Search for Spock.
So the term Hyper Atomic Missile makes me smile somewhat even if it doesn't refer to the same thing.
Oh and by the way, The Motion Picture used the term "Parabole" which is kinda accurate to Warp in a way.
I hate bad translations. Lips not being syncrhonized never was my worst criticism about dubbing since I don't have that good of a pair of eyes but the nonesensical translation is more of a problem to me.
As for TV shows, we only have the French Canadian version now (but I remember other voices back in the day but the only channel at the time that got the rights to the French French version was closed soon after and their tapes destroyed so that French version no longer exists. The Canadian version uses the term Mach as for supersonic aircraft.
TNG, DS9 and Voyager use the correct Distorsion translation and Enterprise is a mess, is shifts constantly between 'Warp' (unstranslated) and "distorsion" depending on who made the translation, that's nuts.
As for the latest productions, I don't know, I never saw them in French and barely watched them anyway. I don't want to know how Spore Drive has been translated anyway...
really like the detail and the common sense you put into it.
Wow, this thing is absolutely beautiful. It's so well thought out, and still feels like it fits right into TOS Star Trek. If ships in Enterprise and Discovery looked like this, I feel they'd be better received by the fans as a "modern take on classic designs" and also as a merger between what we KNOW about space flight, and what we THOUGHT space flight would be like in the late 60's/early 70's
Love it and your philosophy of creating a positive Trek experience.
YAAY! Finally someone knows Yamato 2199/2202!
it's rare to see fans of the show, I loved the revolving hangar design that housed the hayabusa fighters
Beautiful work, Eric! Lovely design. I'm comparing it to my LEGO moc up of Pacific in LDD. Nicely done!
I'm AMAZED nobody has pointed this out yet, but the hull number shown at 1:17 "NCC 201", is the same as the USS Wakefield, a Daedalus class Federation starship.
you know I liked your ship when I first found out about when I first heard about it on trekyards but this video has made me like it even more
I absolutely love your ship's design. Have you considered printing out some blueprints and schematics of the Pacific? Or posters of the ship? Your ship would make a great model kit. Has anyone contacted you about that possibility? Good luck with your project.
This is absolutely incredible!
Awesome work! Obviously a lot of thought went into this.
Sir, a very interesting combination of Star Trek and real-world technology. It certainly makes for a UNIQUE-looking ship. Well designed. Stands out. Would be an extra cool model to sit on a shelf somewhere. I wish to see what you have done with this. Keep going!
Outstanding. I've been following your developments. Love your Daedalus model too!
Spectacular work!
very well done... impressive design..
I have never noticed the whiskers detail before (reminds me in name as least to the WSKRS from SeaQuest DSV), this ship is full of great details looking forward to seeing the image of her broken down into her swappable parts!
EC Henry your ship is a masterpiece of technical design. When your're ready to launch and depart, sign me up.
Wow. Dantius and several before me sum up my thoughts. I just couldn't take the time to continue while raising kids, not having space nor time and I've still got packed away original S.Trek, S.Wars, The Yamato and several dozen more unbuilt models. I ended up with some ready made quality diecast, figurines and pictures. But I envy your skill and love seeing what you've done, explained and videoed. Thank you !!!
The thing about Starfleet and Missiles is merely one of terminology. Photon Torpedos ARE missiles in the broadest sense, and the difference between a torpedo and a missile in sci-fi usually comes down to relative speed and yield (Torps = slow but high yield, missiles are fast but low yield).
And really, Starfleet needs to diversify it's arsenal anyways, so having some sort of high speed missile could be good, particularly if they think a lot of the fighting will occur at FTL.
This is an amazing ship. So much thought and purpose behind everything. If this were real, I'd enlist in Starfleet 10 minutes ago : )
Well done! I see far too many Star Trek fans that are frankly offended by the JJ-verse or anything new, so I admire the courage taken to create new Trek! I, for one am really exited to watch this film next year or this year😉
I love this ship. Great job!
Beautiful design! Nice shape of the ship.
This has to be my favorite design hands down!
This is a great design I've loved it since first seeing it.
Awesome, I love that design!
