Great review! We purchased a 2021 TRD Pro Sequoia and couldn't be more happy. Ultimately, this will either be the best purchase you've ever made or you may simply be throwing your money away, because it all boils down to your specific needs. Living in a more rugged and remote region of Wyoming, our TRD Sequoia spends 70% of its time on paved roads, 25% loose gravel, and 5% trail. It performs amazing in winter conditions, which we need, because we have the potential to receive snow during any given month. Our TRD Pro Sequoia helped to transport health care and emergency response workers during our most recent snowmageddon event, which dumped 28+ inches of snow within a 24 hour period and stranded many vehicles. It has ensured that we have made it back home safely after each and every one of our overlanding adventures, which often span hundreds of miles on dirt trails in some of the most remote regions of our state. I've also had the pleasure of rescuing several large trucks, 4runners, and a Tahoe z71 that was out of its element. I don't care if the interior is outdated, or if it's missing many modern comfort features because I need a vehicle that can handle the absolute worst and most grueling terrain and weather conditions possible, as well as get my kids to and from their various events safely. However, if this vehicle is going to stay on paved surfaces in a mild climate then there are more practical options. My only complaints about the vehicle are as follows... 1. Limited range. I wish the fuel tank were larger. I hate having to haul extra fuel tanks if it can be avoided. The average distance between towns in Wyoming is 100+ miles so stopping to refuel at any moment isn't realistic. 2. The head unit is easily the worst part of the vehicle. Toyota tried to update the technology and did a poor job. I'm thankful that they didn't throw some trash 9+ screen in the vehicle, which seems to be a common trend, but I wish they had simply kept a simple head unit with an auxiliary port instead. Because the unit is missing an aux port and cd-player, the only practical option is to buy a Bluetooth device for listening to music.
This thing is freaking amazing! If you are considering getting an SUV, I highly recommend this one over any highlander or minivan. It has a great engine, very practical, and so reliable it can get you to hell and back. Wether you’re going skiing, off roading in the Utah wilderness, or just carpooling kids to school, this is best in class. Coming from a two time Sequoia owner. Get yours now while it has the V8!
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I have put on some Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks. It's not really full on MT, but it's like a hybrid between MT and AT. Either way, they are excellent!
A cool old school look and features on this sequoia, you don’t see them often because of how the pricing goes. Really like how retro it looks to be fair from the 09’ sequoia.
The Sequoia has been out for many years now has aged well. I wonder how the 2023 will look like?. It does have some old fashion fit and finish materials time for new design even Armada and Expedition got a designed few years back got some major or minor changes. One thing these trucks are extremely reliable run ton of miles.
@@squiresonwheels3249 theyll be fine, the twin turbo V6 that’s in the tundra will be in the sequoia as well. That engine has been tested for about 10 years so Toyota isn’t throwing in an untested piece of crap engine. Will it be as reliable as the 3UR-FE 5.7 V8, maybe not but 300,000 will be a walk in the park for the new engine.
TWINKIE STORRRRAAAAGE FOR DAAAAAAAAAYS!!! Joe and Lori y'all went all out with this Sequoia TRD Pro here!!! Hats off, thumbs up, kudos and all the best wishes to you both!!!
Test drove the new Tahoe ZR71 and the TRD Pro sequoia. I bought the sequoia. Although I love the look of the Tahoe, the sequoia is way more comfy and spacious. It could definitely use more USB ports though for sure. Also some buttons don't light up at night.
My 2009 AWD 5.7 L SEQUOIA, has 345,000 miles. However, I had to replace the engine due to probably not doing proper maintenance, ( either by me or the previous owner ). Transmission still works, but there is some sensor problem, that I have not been able to get fixed, due to mechanics not understanding the issue. Sequoias are not for poor people. They guzzle gas and repairs are outrageously costly. Used parts are impossible to find where I live. Why would anybody want aluminum rims on an off-road vehicle.... especially those. Great vehicle, but over-priced and the competition offers better off-road vehicles if you can afford to buy those. I am driving my 2009 Sequoia until I croak. And the next owner will have fun turning it in to something cool.
I just picked up a 2011 with only 45k miles! I paid a premium for it but I know what I bought. There is no other SUV in its class that can compare... looking forward to maintaining it for at least 10 years. great video!
If I was in the market today for a full size suv I would get the sequoia. I think it’s been under appreciated in some of its features like the independent rear suspension and how comfortable it rides and handles.
This car would be very compelling if they updated the interior and rear lights. If you bought this now the interior would be truly antiquated in 5yrs..
The Sequoia TRD PRO looks amazing on the exterior, but I just wish they updated the interior, plus this is a step up from the Chevy as you mentioned resale wise and reliability/durability, and this I can see have a lot of aftermarket support like people converting these as an overlander and if I had a Sequoia I would definitely throw some mods on it like a winch, maybe a lift, and just make it the ultimate overlander
I have 164,000ish on our 2013. Worth every penny especially now that my four kids are all teenagers and adult sized. Other than maintenance it’s cost me nothing. My limited sequoia Four wheel drive polls the whole family and our camping trailer with ease.
Glad we purchased our cavernous Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Super in February, manufactured in January, for $58,693. Now, they're selling from $69,000 to $86,000. Awesome Review! The longevity and value it’s going to hold is reason enough to choose it over the competition. They also look GREAT! The Toyota 5.7 has a sound of its own that I have learned to love with my Tundra
I literally just bought a Sequoia for this exact reason, last of the V-8’s. I’ve also got a 5.7 Tundra and work on my trucks myself and this platform is simple, reliable, and just plain works when you need it. It’s a philosophy that is often lost on the new crowd of buyers who often want the “newest tech” and often take everything into the dealer and blindly hope for the best. These are trucks that you can still work on yourself, they’re relatively simple, and parts are plentiful as a ton were made. In the end, yes gas is an expense but you will win out in the end when you’re never broken down and what does break will be a relatively simple fix. Sometimes “low-tech” is just better. Oh, and resale value is through the roof.
I LOVE everything about this HUGE, "old-school", super reliable gas guzzler. Getting old and stuck in my ways. Not a fan of menus, 50" 'infotainment' screens, cylinder deactivation, engine on/off, nubby little transmission levers, or even worse, the dials, e-parking brakes. I can't afford a new one, my current truck runs great, and I'd need a new house too, because this thing wouldn't fit in my garage, but I get sad thinking that this is the END of an era for the Sequoia (and vehicles like it). Electric vehicles are better for the environment, BUT, they just seem too sterile and disconnected from the "driving experience"..............the mechanical engagement of a transfer case, the growl of a V-8 engine, and the sound of the exhaust note. This has been a ugly vehicle to me for a long time lol. Gets uglier by the year in comparison to the tech boom. Sounds super reliable being Toyota but like you said absolutely not worth the price. Putting it at that msrp is laughable tbh
@@DesireLevy227 Disagree. The price is perfect when you can rely on this car to give you another 12-15 years. So what if it’s a bit outdated or looks bubbly, it works perfect and does the same job as new cars.

Toyota/Lexus are King of reliability and durability.
🇨🇦👍
Having a real hard time seeing the value. Cheap materials inside, fairly featureless technology, etc. 4x4 and metal skid plates isn't worth it to me. In Canada, the TRD version is over 80k. I can get a Lexus GX for that kind of cheddar.
Except the GX is comparable to the 4Runner not Sequoia
@@tylerf9400 you're right the GX is a significantly better vehicle than the sequoia
Bro is soon to hit 1 mill
I think I should stop watching your videos before I gain some weight😅 nice review, always like'em
11:32 STORY OF MY LIFE. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Hey by any chance do you know if you can get a Sequoia with the column shifter?
The next generation Sequoia could have a twin turbo V6 and a hybrid like the new Tundra, since the Sequoia is an SUV variant of the Tundra.
So no more V8 under the hood from the next generation.
This is so very true!
Tahoe schmahoe, hands down the Sequoia is the only way to go! You cannot put the build quality of the Sequoia and the tahoe in the same camp. Sequoia is a Beast and will last the rest of most peoples life times.👊🏻👍🏻💯 sincerely, '08 Platinum owner.
Can't zonk the rear windshield wiper since it's what allows you to raise and lower the rear glass!
Looks Like He Finally Got The Twinkie Sponsor 😎
I wish! LOL
Aye yo. My guy Joe with the subliminals. Hi larious.
Front facia looks great 👍 👌
Joe, nice video. Always love watching your work but I gotta say, probably could use better lighting for this one. Thanks!
Hey Lori and Joe you think Toyota will switch from V8 to a Twin Turbo V6 and 10 speed Automatic from the same platform as The Tundra for 2023 thanks! By the Way it's my Birthday Today.
Guaranteed it is going to happen.
@@RaitisRides and I also forgot to mention a 12 infotainment screen
If they had the 38 gallon like the tundra it would been perfect.
I will choose 2022 trd pro over 2023 trd pro all day
Should I get Camry XSE V6 Or AWD? I can’t decide.. any suggestions anyone?
I would go V6 unless the climate where you live gets a ton of snow.
@@RaitisRides thank you for your response. Well I live in Seattle, so we get a lot of rain here.. was wondering if AWD would help in the rain.
Awd isn't needed for a car unless you live where it's hilly and icy often. Good tires and fwd v6 I got thru so many blizzards in Minnesota.
@@bendino9016 thank you!!
I'd have a hard time paying $70k for this 2022 TRD Pro when the 2023 comes out this summer and will probably cost the same thing.
7" is a respectable size my guy 😌
No 10 is.
@@aritruths1452 You missed the joke...
This is an excellent review and amazing camera work. I always enjoy your amusing remarks. The engine has incredible power... Regrettably, the technology is identical to that of my 2017 Sequoia.
