We all know the Sequoia will outlast its competitors. Also that weird space between the shifter and the cup holders is a perfect place to hold a handgun. It's the same in my 2010 tundra and that's exactly what I use it for

I own a green TRD Pro just like this one. What I like is I feel like I'm driving a modern classic. It is certainly an old school dated type vehicle. But, I'm in my late 50's and I really don't like the complexity and digital tech in modern vehicles, it drives me nuts having to go into a touch screen to make adjustments! This truck is simple, powerful, well built and it rides better than my Lincoln Navigator with the Fox shocks. I love my trd pro Sequoia!

This car is for driving over rough roads and rocky trails in parks and such. It may not be for serious off roading, but it is very important for people wanting to get off the normal trail where rocks will bounce up and break stuff under the car and getting you where you need to go under almost all road and weather conditions. Plus it is a vehicle you can sleep in or take a ton of stuff with you. It is the most practical adventure car out there with the exception of gas mileage. On top of that, it is made to last 300,000 plus miles. People keep asking for all these technical things on cars and trucks, but they are just more things to break and will increase the expense of owning these vehicles for very little benefit.

We bought a used 08 and had it for over 5 years. Nice ride, could carry 6 adults with ease but I always felt like I was sitting in a cockpit. Coming from a Yukon XL the Toyota seemed tight. I hauled my dual sport on a hitch mounted rack and never even noticed it on a 5000 mile trip. The 2 biggest downers are the gas milage (best ever out west was 17) around 12mpg and the transmission would down shift after just touching the brake. It has 160,000 on it and never had any issues.

  • @davidkaminski615

I drive a first gen Sequoia with 300k+ miles with no major issues. For where I live, I need it's better-than-crossover capability for muddy and snowy/icy roads and I carpool often with 5+ other people (that helps offset the fuel bill!) They remark regularly on the build quality, ride quality, spaciousness and features (otherwise they wouldn't ride with me I guess!).I did upgrade the OG 6-disk radio with a Nav/back-up camera unit and that helped with the "outdatedness" of it. Otherwise, it's been comfortable, functional and a pleasure to drive....apart from the fuel mileage.

I miss the days of real vans. They were the ultimate comfort for 4-7 people to travel in. Sitting in the back seats you literally had your own recliner. My dad had a full size GMC Safari and it was nice!! Huge leather seats for passengers and the 3rd row was like a couch lol. They aren’t really cool but for traveling a van can’t be beat. I wonder if they will ever be back? Probably not. I think a few mini vans still exist but they aren’t even close to a real van from the old days
On second thought I dunno...dads big GMC Safari was pretty cool!!! 😎. It was one of the last years for them, early 2000s. Had a front end like the pickup trucks and a 350. I called it the shaggin wagon 👍🏼

Possibly change the diffs and xfer case out with synthetic gear oil for much better performance in cold weather. Love the size/volume, fox shocks and skid plates. The exterior looks like an early model Dodge Durango, though. Replace the interior cosmetics with a Lexus 570 or Toyota Land Cruiser face lift. The power train is more than sufficient, but I would like to see a TRD supercharger or twin turbo option offered to the enthusiastically insane. Integrate the crawl control and Kinetic system features in the aforementioned, too. Improve the approach and departure angles, accordingly. A step in the right direction, at least.

Drove a Sequoia last year...............and fell in love. LOVE the power, the size, the 'outdated' tech, the utilitarian interior, etc. I ran it with the A/C on for a long weekend of highway and city driving, and I even thought the gas mileage was very decent (for what it is). The Sequoia is ALL business.
It sounds crazy to type it, but $60-$65k is not outlandish for a Sequoia, given that, with minimal maintenance, this truck 'should' last you 12 to 15+ years/300,000+ miles (if you're the type to keep a vehicle).
Truck should have dual exhaust though.
If I could afford a low mileage, late model one (and I didn't already have a truck I love), I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I just got a 2018 SR5 almost new with 38k miles almost fully loaded. Just missing power lift gate and power folding mirrors. Don’t care about those. My kids love the space, it is an extremely comfortable truck. Fuel economy yes, she is thirsty but I don’t really drive much. 4 miles round trip commute. This pst weekend we were 7 people in the Sequoia and we were in a minivan type interiors. Everyone was pleased and comfortable. I love the truck. This winter I’ll test it on the snow but im sure it will be a walk in the park. Mine it’s all black. She’s a beauty. So old, doesn’t bother me because it works and I trust it’s reliable reputation. The others are more modern and fancy looking but will it last as long? Time will tell. And I paid $44k. So that was, to me a great deal, considering how much it would have been new. Also came certified by Toyota with 7years/100k miles. I’m a happy camper!!

Electronics are nice and hell im putting in a touch radio in my 07 but, thats so I dont have to take my hands off the wheel when doing calls. But sometimes missing electric adjustable chairs or fancy trim interior is for the better honestly. I don't know anything about "off-roading" but the Sequoia seems a little on the large side for wheeling on a majority of trails.
Rented one for a long weekend last year and I LOVED driving the vehicle. In mixed highway/local driving (with the A/C on) I was very pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage. It's not a Prius, however, for what it is, I was impressed. There wasn't anything that I did not like about the vehicle. Extremely comfortable ride. Toyota fit & finish. Power for days. If you have a couple of kids and/or live in a place that's not overcrowded, it seems like a great vehicle to own.
Aside from not being able to afford one (or certainly a lower mileage one), I also live in an extremely densely populated part of the country and on top of all that, I highly doubt that this glorious beast would fit in my garage.
People criticize "Toyota fanboys" but you have to blind and/or biased not to notice the number of owners of 4Runners, Sequoias, and Land Cruisers who report having 300,000+ miles. I appreciate the value of spending $50 or $60 or even $70,000 on a vehicle that you know is extremely likely to last 300,000 (trouble-free) miles.

Well the interior isn't quite as nice as other brands and the fuel mileage, well Ram can get over 20 out of a 5.7l V8. So why can't Toyota make a 5.7l V8 get better than a measly 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway? It would be kind of a cool overland build but the range has a potential to be a little problematic. But with that being said, I'm not bashing Toyota in anyway I'm just saying things that people complain about often. My personal interior expectations are lower due to growing up with "poor people cars" but I do wish they offered more colors besides a bland black with white headliner and a rough 13 mpg.

    • @Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
      @Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 3 года назад

@@private6549 it definitely isn't as fuel efficient as the current domestic offerings, but the 10.5 inch 4.30 rear end has alot to do with that. Interior to me isn't that bad, definitely a subjective thing, because for me it is fine, I don't need a flat screen tv sized display in my dash. It does come standard with toyotas safety sense with autonomous braking and lazer guided cruise control, which are either only available on the higher trim levels or not available at all in some other trucks. Only thing it really needs is a 360 birds eye view camera system. Features like full roll down back glass has been available since the first gen crew cab, and adjustable headlights via a dial on the dash has been offered since 07. The big 3 still do not offer either of those two features. Navigation and 8 inch screen (i think its 8 inches) is standard even on the base model, you can get heated amd cooled leather seats and a JBL stereo, the 5.7 is standard, and it does offer a 36 gallon tank now, keyless entry and keyless start,, remote start, full LED headlights and driving lights, so reallt what else could you really ask for in a truck other than better fuel economy? A fully loaded out platinum or 1794 stickers for just over 50k, and if you negotiate you can have one just under 50k like my brother did. Thats what you pay for a regular XLT f150, more if you get a well optioned lariat, and astronomical if you go platinum, king ranch, and downright insane if you go limited. So what you can get for 50k in a tundra is actually a pretty good value.

The removable center console is actually for you to store a fire arm in your vehicle without being seen. It was like that in the 2007-2013 Tundras also. The poor fuel economy also comes from the fact the sequoia (and all Toyota 4x4s generally) have more ground clearance then their competition, I think the sequoia offers almost 3in more clearance and doesn't have a low hanging front air dam. Raise a Tahoe or Expedition 3in and remove the front air dam and the fuel economy will probably be the same or maybe even worse. And lastly the torsen center differential gives you the ability to use this in 4hi but on dry and hard surfaces like a full time 4wd system but still go 2wd hi to save fuel. But the magic of the torsen center differential is the ability to turn around tight spaces off road unlocked and can transfer up to 70% of the torque to the front or rear wheels without binding or increasing the turning radius to much. You get the best of both worlds and hate Toyota discontinued it in the 4runner.

The trade-off is aesthetically it's not as modern in the interior as other vehicles in it's class and it's hard on fuel.
If you can look past those two factors it's a great family hauler that's plenty capable with room to spare.

The shape definitely reminds me of an old GMC truck from the earlier 2000s - like a Blazer or an Envoy

Why would Toyota add those features like craw control and a disconnecting sway bar when you can get that with the more expansive and more capable Land Cruiser? This wasn’t made to be an off-roading super rig but rather a medium between the way more expensive Land Cruiser and the smaller 4Runner.
