Grant here! My 4Runner is a 2020, not a 2018. I almost got a 2018, but fell hard for the superior instrument cluster and infotainment interface and functionality in the 2020.
No wonder it looks spotless. Super nice car!
Hey I've got a 2020 SR5 in nautical blue. I love it
Does the steering wheel shake at 60mph?
@@MusicandMachines It did but then I took it to a shop I trust that has a real toyota tire balancer and they balanced it correctly and now it doesn't. Don't trust pep boys or any of those chain ones. Even the damn toyota dealership didn't do it right. But my local shop did. I love those guys
@@MusicandMachines why did you ask? Is that a common problem in these new Runners? Or you’re taking on a lifted truck?
As a 4Runner owner, I’m intrigued by the Sequoia, but not being able to remove the rear seats or get them only in a second row is a bit of deal killer.
And that missing roll down rear window. Shame.
not to mention no more rear sliding glass. i love the rear sliding glass for my dogs, plus it allows full thru air flow so you dont need to run the ac all the time
For such a huge car, such a limited space is a big NO
Exactly! I have two Bernese mountain dogs that are comfortable in the back our our 4runner, the Sequoia wouldn't cut it. Too bad though, its a beautiful looking rig.
@@valoriant same thing for me. i have a gen 1 sequoia that i can fit all 4 of my huskies in and still have room for one back seat passenger. they should have kept the V8 as an option for the 4runner
Love the tried and true 4runner. For most people it is going to be the first choice. The new Sequoia looks great. Hats off to Toyota. But the pricing is insane for these larger suvs these days. The smaller 4runner will be much better in a lot more offroad situations where size will matter. Great choice either way you go and for whatever reason you want one.
Yeah but why is it better offroad? Because it's smaller?
Newest technology isn't a selling feature. It isn't always reliable and it doesn't make your driving experience better.
Depends on the person and their preferences.
The new tech is annoying. Mostly.
@@florindagonzalez5700 50 50
I did like all the safety features on my 2019 toyota rav 4, but, yeah, def gets annoying some of it, and you know that's going to be the only stuff to break most likely
I personally love new technology. ACC and LKA are a must have for me
The most strident difference I believe between the two is that the 4Runner is built at the fable Tahara plant in Japan where many Lexus are built by Takumi craftsman. 4Runner built like a Swiss watch way higher quality build than TX built Sequoia
There’s nothing magical about some Japanese hands bolting together a truck. Their high school dropouts hate their boring factory job the same as ours.
@@holdenc3082 totally disagree, Japanese have a better work ethic, that being said, I never had any problems with my 2016 Tundra.
If you don’t believe me, do a search on RUclips. There is a Toyota engineer from Japan that spoke on this exact topic. The bottom line is that there is zero quantifiable difference between a Toyota made in Japan or a Camry made in Kentucky. The production processes, training for the workers and quality control checks are exactly the same. Americans need to get over whatever this absurd self loathing that is permeating our society. Millions of Americans work incredibly hard at their jobs.
Difference in quality is pure conjecture. Toyota’s quality process is implemented in all factories and logically should minimize quality differences, if any.
@@kirkkramer2412 Agreed. I would put my 2011 Subaru Forester and 2020 4Runner (both built in Japan) against anything in the market today on the reliability front.
The Sequioa is gorgeous. I love the 4Runner, too. I think it ends up being a matter of the state of my wallet at the time. I do harbor some concern regarding the reliability of all the electronic do-dads on the Sequoia, which makes the 4Runner a bit more appealing as a result.
It's more reliable than European car electronics.
The second generation Sequoia is great, but it's still pretty expensive. It's better in a few ways than the new one, actually.
the same was probably thought throughout automotive history :D
Majot bugs in 22/23 sequoi tundra builds
Just bought the '23 4Runner
The way the press talks about it, you'd think it was a wagon form The Pony Express days
The powertrain reminds me of a diesel, without the noise. Rarely moves above 2000 RPM, with its torque easily keeping up with traffic. Much smoother & quieter than I expected. Refined to perfection.
I know you guys said that the 4Runner in this video is a 2018, but there is no way that's correct, unless he went through the trouble of adding the entire head unit, gauge cluster screen, & center bezel from a 2020+ model, the steering wheel from a 2020+ model, & he managed to add adaptive radar cruise control & lane departure warning to it.
Grant here. Yes, it is a 2020 4Runner (I kept telling them!) I was looking at a 2018 but went with the 2020 after falling hard for the much better instrument cluster and infotainment interface with Apple CarPlay.
I have a 2012 4Runner that I bought new. I have put 160,000 miles on it and tow boats regularly. It has never given me any issues! With that said, if the rear seats could be removed in the Sequoia so the floor could be flat (with the platforms) I would buy one tomorrow.
The shelf is adjustable in order to allow everything to be flat at one level with the seats lowered and not removed.
@@jonathantempel1287 dumbest, half-assed design ever. Classic toyota
@Allen Toyokawa keep sipping that Toyota kool-aid. Hell I'm surprised Toyota didn't put drum brakes on it too 😂
Agreed
The Sequoia is really badass but they made it so cool while neglecting their target audience’s need for cargo space and a usable 3rd row. I hope they put that same power train in the next 4Runner and GX they will sell like crazy.
As a still original owner of a third Gen 4runner and first Gen Sequoia, I love them both. But I would stick with the 5th Gen 4runner even though it lacks the bells and whistles of the newer Gen Sequoia but both vehicles look good in their current iterations
yes those were bullet-proof and time-tested vehicles...the new ones need more time to work out all the bugs
4 Runner is made in Japan, on the same line the Lexus is made. An engineer showed quality differences.
This myth just won’t die. There is nothing magic about Japanese versus American hands bolting a truck together.
@@holdenc3082 incorrect… I am a certified master Toyota technician in Cincinnati Ohio for 25 years and you are categorically incorrect
An engineer has made several videos on this. He designed the equipment used on that line. He pointed out in detail the quality differences in suppliers and materials, etc.
@@holdenc3082 Correct that it's not magic. It's tangible differences in everything from the paint application process and thickness, to how well-tuned the body panel fitment is, etc. Nothing magic about it. That particular plant in Japan does have testible, factually better quality than other Toyota plants.
If you don’t want to believe me you all can just type “Are Toyotas Made in Japan Better than Toyotas Made elsewhere?” into your search bar on RUclips and get it straight from.a Toyota engineer that you all have no idea what you are taking about.
Bought a Sequoia new in '05 and still have it. I don't think it's had a single problem. It was probably around 30k at the time (which was expensive). 80k! That's about half of what I paid for my first house.
A fully loaded Sequia can run you up to Cadillac Escalade prices. It's insane. Who's buying all these almost six figure SUVs
While I agree the transmission on the 4Runner should be updated, I like that items such as the trailer hitch, skid plates, low range and mudflaps are standard on the 4Runner . Also the cargo space is great compared to most crossovers these days.
Mudflaps is not a reason for me but we all have our needs.
If it aint broke dont fix it
@@makoimonroe2633 But it will be when your paint starts chipping from rocks and all kinda debris. Take it from experience here.
Bc it really is a truck, most crossovers are unibody, most trucks are body on frame, next year toyota will re release their small unibody pickup that currently ford owns the market with the maverick
I DRIVE A 2002 -4 RUNNER AND I LOVE IT EVERY DAY. I GAVE MY FIRST 4 RUNNER A 1996 TO MY SON-IN -LAW AND HE DRIVES IT EVERYDAY TO WORK. BEST VEHICLES ON THE ROAD
Like I've been saying, all Toyota has to do is update the transmissions with similar reliable parts & build quality on the current Tacoma and 4runner and everyone wins. Toyota will save money on the process and people will continue to have a bulletproof trucks!
They dont want their cars lasting 3 decades anymore
They can't keep the old engines due to ever tightening emissions restrictions.
Also make the taco more friendly for tall people. The roof cuts off half my view
4Runner and Tacoma need better engines. They’ve had suitable 8 speeds for years and just decided to not put them in.
@@allentoyokawa9068 My buddies Tacoma lasted 70k miles before it needed a full transmission and alternator swap. I'll let you in on a little secret...
It didn't take him 3 decades to break it.
Regards, a 2.0 wrangler owner with more miles and no issues.
Just depends what your use is. I was a bit surprised how the Tundra/Sequoia interior felt a little flimsy when compared to the 4Runner. That and the track record on the 5th Gen 4R engine… a classic, old school 4x4.
I don't know others but big cargo space and comfortable 3rd row seat would be my first reason to consider a full size SUV. Previous gen Sequoia's 120 Cubic feet was really generous.
You are obviously ruled by your wife and three children :)
I don't know who told Grant his 4runner was a 2018, but it's not. I sold Toyotas for a living. The fugly chrome strip in the grill, the "new" 8" infotainment screen, and updated gauge cluster started in 2020. Surprised he thinks it's a 2018
You two did a thorough compare-contrast. Well done!
And props to your loyal cameraman!
I like both but I’d probably would get the 4Runner.
Awesome video. I recently bought a 2017 SR5 and sure enough, it took me a while to find it. Super happy with it. It drives awesome and it does feel like a small tank.
My family just bought a used 2015 SR5 Premium 4Runner with all the off-road goodness, including a manual transfer case shifter! It’s a high mile unit but has nothing seeping or rusting underneath. I’ve always liked them and now that I own one, I know I made a good choice. No driver aids, no turbos, part-time 4wd, and super reliable.
What I never understand is. It is great that the seats fold up like a Tahoe.. to give you a bit of storage, but the big problem is I mostly need to storage when I have it full of people
Lots of people equals lots of stuff
Thats why I love and need a suburban type of vehicle to fill this place
Agree. I can't understand why the Sequoia isn't available with a third row delete. Just give me a giant cargo area and I'd be compelled to buy one..I don't want or need three rows of seats but some extra room when camping with my family of four would be great.
I agree also!! I would like a non electric, take the battery out drop seats lower and give me back some cargo space. Plus the cargo room behind 3rd row looks too small
As someone who just purchased a 2022 TRD Pro 4Runner on 12/12/22, although the 2023 Sequoias drivetrain (TT V6 and 10spd Auto) was intriguing and exciting, what really made the decision was the years of proven reliability in the gen 5 4 runner. Additionally, the price plays a huge difference. A gas guzzling V6 5spd trans that has decades of tried and true reliability vs a new i-Force powertrain is the easiest decision. Maybe a trade up when the prices go down. $80k for a kitted out toyota is crazy in any year observed.
Toyota should offer Sequoia with 2 rows. Larger rear area.
.... and a non-hybrid power train. It would be easy to do.
@@andrewinaustintx and 10 mpg, it’s not low enough
Andre and Nathan combination is the best. My 4Runner TRD Pro all stock except with sliders + full skids its 5000lbs vs my Limited with 3rd row seats 285/70R17 tires + TRD offroad wheels weighs 5060lbs. 2023 4Runner however have ton of new features, smaller things like heated steering to really useful offroad aids like 360 camera (trail monitoring). As Nathan said it would be nice to have the 3.4T hybrid in the 4runner but I feel more dependable with my current 4L N/A V6.
A few people I know have a 4runner from the late 90 and early 20 it's still running
Still amazed that neither the Tundra or Sequoia are available with full time AWD or auto 4WD. Their respective competitors have those features and it is a deal killer for many buyers like me.
Who really needs FULL TIME AWD in such a heavy vehicle?
@@RR-jk3rl anyone who drives on mixed pavement and ice. Weight matters little on black ice. AWD matters a lot.
Agreed, we need it a good portion of the year and love having it on our GX. I'd be more interested in a Tundra or 4Runner if they had it. I hate constant switching.
@@bobbyrader7937 4Runner does have it… on the Limited trim.
If the new 4Runner doesn't have the back windows that rolls down, then we riot. One of my absolute favorite features on my 2019 4Runner. Great for the dogs.
Also one thing to mention, the 4Runner offers All Wheel Drive.. where you at Sequioa?!
I had and traded in a 2023 tundra trd pro in solar octane… the tundra inside was a rattlebox, the centerconsole squeaked, the plastics ate cheap, the front tires burned the outside tire in 3,000 miles driving like granny, alignment, rotation, same exact tire wear..2/32 on outside lug. I got the runaround from toyota, then i got a fire hazard recall with no fix yet…. I traded in for a 23 limited 4 runner love it!! Made in TAHARA japan, quality is better than lexus its a bomb proof suv
Love the looks of the Sequoia but I would not want the rear seats ruining the cargo area. If they disappeared more into the floor I wouldn't care but they take up space and I would be concerned about damaging them with luggage or cargo. I would rarely if ever use the seats back there.
Please make a video comparing the Sequoia to a 200 LC!
The current 4runner is nearly perfect.
The only thing I’d add is a dual sunroof, a button that turns on all interior lights, an 8-speed transmission, 50-100 more hp & torque, less front rake, and the ability to fit 285’s in the wheel wells without rubbing.
The interior and exterior styling are perfect.
$6k for a Magnuson supercharger and a long weekend for the install on my 2012 4runner. Well worth the investment, especially when I'm towing.
I’ll add less diving during har braking
If add an auto open close tail gate, a locking gas cap, modern LED DRLs, bigger media screen and its perfect
Does the Sequoia come with the same standard features as the 4Runner to include the brake calipers that seize up and need replacing with every brake job?
I can see someday maybe getting a Sequoia. That engine didn’t have the greatest start but I think it will be reliable once Toyota finishes their tweaking. The performance of the engine is phenomenal. They also need to tweak the design of the interior for more cargo space with all seats up. Maybe make a two row option. So I’m just going to hold onto my 4runner forever because I know that thing is starting every time and going where I need to.
7:11~ "He's the truck specialist."
Exactly what I was thinking and waiting for. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just wondering about David; I haven’t seen him on the channels for a while.
I just want to start by saying thank you. I'm a 4 runner owner for the past 3 years and as you guys said it is a tank. How ever my family grew from 4 to 5 so I really need the 3rd raw seats now. I can't find a Toyota dealer with a new sequoia to look at in Pearson, and yet I do not want to give my 4runner away. I got my 2016 4 runner used for 28k before covid, drove it for 3 years and I can sell it for 28k now. I have a Ford f350 with a plow setup and the 4runner drives way wayyyyy more safer and it is more capable in the snow.
Hey guys I noticed you all posted some videos of the Daihatsu Rocky, and also of the Suzuki Samurai. But honestly it would be pretty interesting to see a comparison video of both such a VS of these two japanese cars
Hey Andre could you do a video of the two off road Competing against each other ?
There have been so many reviews on the features and appointments already, I would have preferred to see a head-to-head road and off-road comparison. Maybe next time.
We own a 2010 Sequoia and a 2021 four runner.
Both are incredible vehicles, both bulletproof.
But, if I was to choose one, I’d say the Sequoia by far.
Great side-by-side comparison gentlemen. I have, and LOVE, my 2014 4Runner SR5-purchased new. ATRAC gets me to all of my hiking trails, and it drives like new still. IF i had one more child (3 vs 2) i would have bought a Seq for the larger 3rd row. IF i feel i need whatever is next, it surely will be either a prev gen Tundra Crew cab (SUV cab with pick up tail) or what i consider the ONLY upgrade i would want---a LC200 of some ilk.
As a 3 kid family (5,3,1) you would be better with the 4runner and getting slim fit car seats and going 3 across vs a 3 row with captain chair 2nd row. None of the 3 row suvs have any space behind the 3rd row until you go Suburban size. Ultimately I went from a Touareg TDI to an F150 crewcab and couldn't be happier.
I have 3 kids and a dog, went from an 06 highlander to an ‘18 sequoia sr5 and we love the confort and space. Kids are not on top of each other even with slim car seats, which at one point we had three car seats in the highlander. The tuck is a tank!!
Family with 3 kids, 2 in car seats. Had 4Runner 3 row, upgraded to a LC200 series and it is an awesome upgrade.
We have a big family (4 kids, 2 older and 2 in car seats/boosters) and we progressed from a 4Runner to a GX to a 200 series LX. All modded with the 4Runner being my daily driver and the GX as my wife's daily driver. Had the 4Runner when we had 2 kids, got the GX when we had 3 kids, then the 200 series LX570 when we had 4 kids. It was a hard choice between a 2nd gen Sequoia or the 200 series LC/LX570. 2nd gen Sequoia have more 3rd row space and cargo space behind the 3rd row. 200 series LX interior is much better and more comfortable. LC/LX is shorter and easier to park/drive. Granted, the 4Runner and GX is much easier to drive and park than either the 200 series or the Sequoia. Off-road, the LX is better once I switched to 18" rims and A/T tires. Decided on the LX570 vice a Land Cruiser for the hydraulic suspension. Plenty of debate on iH8MUD on the advantage and disadvantages of the hydraulic suspension but it worked for my family's use case. With the reliable hydraulic suspension, I don't have to fuss too much with aftermarket shocks/suspension like I did on the 4Runner and GX. I just change the hydraulic fluid out every 30-60k instead of having to rebuild the aftermarket coilovers, which I constantly have to do on the 4Runner and GX. And I have 2.5" coilovers which is oversized for the 4Runner/GX weight class. Stock OEM shock is slightly less than 2.0". Rebuilding coilovers is something that nobody talks about when they go with aftermarket suspension but it is something you have to do every 45-80k depending on how you abuse it. For the LX570, you can pretty much slap on some armor, tires, and go. Does just as well as my 4Runner and GX except for narrow trails. Plus it has all the off-road goodies whereas the 2nd gen Sequoia only has ATRAC. You can also mod the 200 series LC/LX crazy like the Tundra with Harrop or Magunson TVS supercharger, Harrop e-locker/ARB air locker, armor, etc pretty easy whereas 2nd gen Sequoia doesn't have many options (except for the ones shared with the 2nd gen Tundra). My 4Runner is supercharged but the GX can't be supercharged... The 200 series LC/LX however, can be supercharged. Due to the independent rear suspension in the 2nd gen Sequoia, which gives you more interior space, your rear articulation is limited and you don't have a rear locker aftermarket option... As for cargo space limitation on the 200 series, we have a hitch mounted swing away cargo box like StowAway2 or Rola Adventure. It is raised so it doesn't impact the departure angle as much. Plus we can take it off and leave it at the campsite and still take the family off-roading. I don't plan to have a flat roof platform on the LX like I did on the 4Runner and GX since I don't usually carry anything on top. Plus the roof platforms reduced my 4Runner and GX's fuel economy, especially with a roof top tent. As for tech, it is easy to add wireless Android Auto/Carplay to the 200 series. Plenty of aftermarket options out there for less than $1000. Same with brake controllers. Not sure why people complain about tech in cars when the tech in any car will be out of date in less than 5 years with no way to upgrade except through OTA updates. Even the ones with OTA doesn't last forever, just look at your Android/iPhones. Manufacturers only put out OTAs for about 2 years before you are forced to buy a new phone or be stuck with what you have.
Toyota is going to offer a extended version of the Highlander next year. Hopefully they will offer a extended Sequoia in the future, Kinda like GM did with the Suburban being a extended version of the Tahoe.
I got a 2016 limited automatic running boards. Sequoia looks great. Let’s wait for the 2024 4Runner changes.
Thank you for a relevant and fun review 👊👊👊
Sat in one of these last week. The third row is useable for 5'10 or shorter. The vehicle is great looking and my wife was in love. I think this is a great vehicle in my opinion.
Love the Sequioa but it could use a true off-road version with a deleted third row ☝️
Removing the third row can’t be too difficult with a couple of tools.
@@ALMX5DP true but because it's "not" removable there's likely some sort-of voiding the interior if you do remove it.
Like the slide out tray in the 4runner. You can take it out but then the rear cargo area is just the exposed steel floor. Except with the sequoia you won't be able to buy the non third row panels to fill the gap.
@@Christian-Berger sure, I'm pretty open to modifying my vehicles. I've removed seats before and filled in the area with panels or carpeting as needed. A piece of MDF and some similar carpet material should make this cargo area pretty OEM in appearance. I'm sure an aftermarket company will do similar here eventually if that's not someone's preference or skillset though. I just figured those commenting on this were of the sort to overland or engage in similar hobbies, so to me for those people i feel it's not a huge barrier to overcome.

Had a 4Runner rental and damn i wanted to go right to the dealer and buy one…. But the mpg on Florida hwys was 19, if it was 22 id be ok with it but I just can’t bring myself to get it, since we only have 1 kid
I've been wanting to upgrade my current 2000 ford explorer with a used 4 runner but holy crap it's near impossible to find one inder 20k without 300k miles.
Can you make a comparison video between new Sequoia and LX600? It seems, that those two have much more in common (same generation, same platform) than with 4 Runner.
Ok I have a 15 4runner limited..... never had an issue. Love the rear window and ample cargo space. I was excited for the sequoia until I saw the shelf and storage. I have yet to see one in person but I'm very disappointed in the sequoia. Not only is my 4runner a family vehicle but it doubles as a workhorse. The worst part about the 4runner is my radio keeps reseting and low tow cap.
23MPG city/highway on my 4WD 4Runners. 25MPG on my 2WD SR5.
Great comparison! I'm hoping since the Sequoia came out later a lot of the quality issues on the tundra have been ironed out!

The new 4Runners sweet spot is the sr5 premium 4x4. By a long shot. It’s much cheaper and actually possible to get under sticker, it’s got all the heated seats and safety tech you could want, and it’s so capable. You really don’t need the rear locker of the trd off road, and it’s the same price as the trd base, but with the premium heated seats and led lights and safety tech. Just a better deal. Also go five seater. Don’t mess with the 3rd row, couldn’t agree more, it’s just a waste of space. I have a 2022 sr5 premium 4Runner. It’s been absolutely amazing and I can’t express enough how good it is stock off road. The only thing to upgrade asap is the tires. The dueler highway tires are fine for summer highway driving but they are terrible and down right useless in ice and snow and even just flat gravel roads. Not very good around town on rough roads either. Grab some ko 2’s or better even all around some Falken wild peak at3w’s. Much better all year tire on and off road and not too expensive
Good comparo! Thanks. One comment. There's no need to create a problem for things that have been solved. Toyoda needs to leave the 4Runner (and hopefully its upscale cousin, the GX) alone. Why do they sell so well. Because old problems were solved: they're reliable, simple to use/fix, there's like a gazillions part in the distribution systems, they drive fine and are safe. When that fancy sequoia needs an electric thingy mabobby, good luck getting it.
I got my 5th gen for under $30k with just over 30k miles on it before the run up in prices. At the values today, even 4runners are too expensive for me! The sequoia is way way way overpriced
Can you get the 3.5 twin turbo w/o the electric motor???
Ty.. love your content.
good to see Nathan back more often
The Lexus GX is a good alternative that is old school like the 4Runner and 3 row like the Sequoia.
If the 4 runner at least had the transmission upgraded to 8 or more gears, same engine, mated to a mild hybrid to give it a torque boost and save fuel. That's all it needs.
I think it’s really good with you compared HILUX vs Tacoma or SW4 vs 4Runner
Nathan it’s not because I’d the rear axle, it’s because I’d the battery right under the 3rd row
If I had a large family, I'd go with Sequoia, but otherwise 4Runner all day. More versatility off road and just an all around great vehicle.
I’m really hoping that they don’t mess up the simplicity of the 4Runner and Tacoma on the upcoming refreshes.
Just bought a 2021 4Runner SR5 Premium 4x4 with 3rd row seats. It was certified pre-owned and a clean one owner. It even has a longer extended powertrain warranty than a new 4Runner, even though 4Runners are very reliable, nice peace of mind. 2020 and newer 4Runners have updated infotainment, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, LED headlamps, etc. Everything you need, nothing you don't. All of the extra electronic stuff in new trucks are just more things to break down the road.
I love the new sequoia but I went with a 2018 Sequoia sr5 4x4. Old but trusty. That’s how I also feel about the 4Runner. Yes it’s dated but everything works well, huge amount of space and we love the truck. Very comfortable and the V8 is quick. Let’s see how the new one does. That color is amazing!!
You guys missed the best part of the sequoia, the Morse code on the windshield .
The annoying thing about the 4Runner rear window is that on my 3rd and 4th gens both could lower the rear window via the key fob. Sucks they removed it from the 5th gen.
You can, I just don't know how. I do it on accident sometimes when. The keys are in my ha d or pocket or I'm fumbling trying to press buttons with my hands full. There also is a setting the dealership Can turn on that will allow all windows to roll down with the key fob
Take time and listen to one another. No need to rush to your point or dismiss what someone is saying or showing. Both of you!
Toyota if you’re reading this, please move the rear HVAC vents of the 4Runner into the roof or side pillars! If you have a dog/kennel the rear HVAC is blocked by folding the rear seat bottoms for the flat floor. The only option is to take the seat bottoms out to get airflow to the rear with it folded.
Nathan and Andre rock 💪🏼
I remember the days when Andre responded only in Russian to Nathan 😂
Time flies.

We love our 3 row 4runner! But seriously eyeing this new sequoia. If only it wasn’t sooooo expensive!
Buddy in the plaid shirt doesn’t math well lol. The cargo space part 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
I love my 2023 4Runner trd off-road premium with xp package best vehicle I ever had!
I have loved the 4runner since I was a kid. I have a second gen sequoia now though. I was given a 23 TRD 4runner to take to Colorado recently and I can say I loved everything about it except it is completely gutless in the mountains. Really made me miss the 5.7 in the sequoia.
Don’t forget another big thing 4Runner is made in Japan still every single one. Sequoia is made in Texas. And build quality on a 4Runner will run circles around a new sequoia/tundra any day.
For reliable off-roading, we loved our 2015 4Runner TRD PRO Inferno.
For people-hauling and confident towing, we loved our 2022 Sequoia TRD PRO Lunar Rock.
I used to own a 1987 4-Runner, I liked it. Hauled kids, dogs, gear, great in the snow. Seats were OK, not great. At 100,000 miles I sold it to my sister-in-law who still drives it daily. My husband has a Tundra pickup, he likes it. I want the Sequoia for myself to tow a horse trailer, haul a kid, dog & gear. A little worried about the cargo set-up (not great) but with the power & towing I'm willing to work around it. The price...not so great...will probably have to wait for a used one.
This 4Runner SR5 looks like to be a 2020 or later model and not a 2018. The 2018 4Runner did not have the silver-colored horizontal stripe in the front grille, left and right to the Toyota logo. This stripe was added in MY2020.
I'm a tech at dealer and drive a lot of Toyotas. 4runner just make sense for so many reasons.
Great review. The new 4Runner should be more off road focused and be ready for modifications.
I would like to see metal bumper options, able to take larger tires, a front locker.
That’s probably pretty likely. Toyota recently trademarked the “Trail Hunter” nameplate, and showed off a concept Tundra that is pretty much what you described. Factory setup overlanding rig.
4Runner for me. Dont see an upside to the Sequoia if youre hauling less than 6 people. I will keep my 2019 4Runner until it breaks, my daughter steals it, or they make a 6th Gen with the reliability and utility of the 5th Gen.
My first year G2 2008 Sequoia is over 581K and drives like it did at 10. No major repairs. Without electric there's 120 cubic feet of space to fill. I love it.
I just hit 250 thousand miles on my 4.7 V8. I plan on celebrating when it hits 500 thousand miles. You should be past 3/4 million miles by then. My 4Runner with ICON suspension drives better at 250 thousand than it did at 60 thousand when I bought it certified used.
Two things they killed it for me, rear window roll down and 3rd roll seat not removable, I don't have a huge family but a few months at a time, big family gathering help but other times. I just need that 3rd row seat in the garage while I use the back space for gears and tools.
Just got a 2023 4 runner limited. Pretty sweet
I definitely like the Sequoia but it’s hella expensive. I bought my wife a 2021 Toyota 4Runner Limited Night Shade Edition and we love it, the only problem it was that the dealer ships are over pricing the vehicles. We are going to pay $68k for it in total, when it should had been maybe around 58k to 60k at the craziest, but oh well, my wife wanted it and bought it for her and I know that it’s a wise investment. Last week I went to take my truck for a service to the dealership and they had a brand new Sequoia TRD Pro in white and they were selling it for 92k, I was like what in the holly world is going on with this people man. They take advantage of who ever they can and the bad thing is that people actually pay it, that’s why they keep on doing it. But oh well, great video by the way!!!.
Nowadays, Toyota dealers are asking Mercedes/BMW price and Lexus side is asking even higher price, LMAO........
4runner for 68k? Helll nah
@@justinthematrix was thinking the same thing. Paid 43k out the door when buying my 2016 limited new. Basically the same car
@@eggheadegghead Because Tiktokers keep paying dealership prices to flex than negotiating down.
@greenninja999. And here I am with a 2008 Tundra TRD Crewmax with 160,000 miles that is basically 90% the same car for practical everyday and off-road use. In great shape with nice leather seats and a moonroof. All for $19,000. Put in a bit of work, so more like $22,000. And people are out here spending 50, 70, and 90 grand on cars that are barely any better. Just newer, look a little nicer and slightly more modern. I could never bring myself to do that when I could buy 3 used trucks in great shape for basically the same price.
Sequoia doesn't seem bad and I guess a new 4runner is coming (which I am sure will be fine). But I wanted tried and true and picked up a 23 ORP. It's everything I wanted in features and size. I'll wait 15 or so years until I am much older and to see what the next upgrade will be. Maybe buy the tail-end of the 6th gen ;)
I’m ready to get a Sequoia BUT, all the dealerships I have been to have been to recently are adding a $20k market adjustment for them. Would you pay $100k+ for a Sequoia?
This is one of the main reasons why we purchased a low mileage 2018 Sequoia SR5. The lack of cargo space and engine variation Toyota decided to go with. Immediately made our decision to stay true with the 2nd gen Sequoia V8. Exterior and interior appearance of the new Sequoia may look more appealing compared to the 2nd gen Sequoia. But if it lacks functionality and purpose what good is it? I still think the 2nd gen Sequoia looks great and you can't go wrong with the well known reliability of it.
2018 TRDP and I was tempted for a new Sequoia...but I'm keeping my 4runner til wheels come off (CHICAGO)!!!
The 4Runner is an old school Swiss Army Knife
We have a full size truck to tow a camper; a rubicon wrangler; and a 4Runner; I could condense the 4Runner and truck into a sequoia…
My neighbor bought a new Tundra but kept his old Rav 4 on the side. Had truck for a month now it's gone and he's driving his Rav 4. Money wasn't the issue.
I have high hopes for the sequoia. With a large family who would like to buy a camper as well, not may options out there.
Love my 4Runner ‘23
The cost to fix the Sequioa long term and due to it having a turbo, may cost a lot of more money to fix due to it being a hybrid.
