We average 19MPG city and get about 28-29 MPG on the freeway. The third row on the Sequoia was a deal breaker for us. When we have the in-laws in town, we need the 3rd row space. With more passengers, comes more luggage. The Tahoe is able to do both. And the sliding second row helps tremendously. We have owned an Escalade ESV in the past, and I can tell you these new GM suvs have come a long way. GM understands the market most. Our Tahoe rides better than our Mercedes, soaking up bumps extremely well. We are excited to have this vehicle in the family for years to come. And those making decisions based on resale value, keep in mind, the sequoia does not hold its value as well as other Toyota/Lexus models. We feel the Tahoe will hold its looks better as well. Look at a 5 year old Sequioa vs a 5 year old Tahoe. The GM vehicles look much better. Just my opinion
I prefer the prior gen sequoia over the Tahoe because of the tahoes more cramped 3rd row (due to the solid rear axle) and highlander like interior space However I much prefer this gen tahoe over the sequoia for the exact same reasons
That never stopped the previous tahoe fr selling so good. It had a solid rear axle but didnt have the cargo shelf or slidng 3rd row to make things better, amd you sat with your knees in your chest. GM knew a solid axle was better for towing, hauling and offroad, but they buckled amd switched to an independent rear, which has really bad negative cambet whem loaded so the inside of the rear tires will wear bad. I don't see the big deal with the sequoias storage.
@@kevinr5187 Thanks. These independent suspension were made for soccer moms and people who will never see more than a gravel road, or never tow more than a small uhaul trailer. What made the previous gen tahoe/Yukon/suburban so good at towing and hauling was its solid axle. It ate into the cargo space and the third row was absolutely horrible. Everyone else had independent suspension and you could see the back wheels leaned in at the top (negative camber) even hauling small loads or having people in the 3rd row. Toyota offers a better designed 3rd row and cargo area, and a lower lifting point to load cargo than anyone else, and the cargo shelf keeps things level from the tailgate to the rear seats. Its as good as you can really do for a solid axle, let alone with a battery as well. I for one would prefer the solid axle for towing and hauling, and especially offroad where the suspension travel and articulation will keep the wheels in contact with the ground more so than an independent suspension, which will lift wheels over even the smallest obstacles. It isn't for everyone, but in my opinion the new Tahoe/Yukon is the best looking and the new interior is very well done. The sequoia will the best for towing, hauling, and offroading. For me thw Sequoia is better, but I would like a non-hybrid option.
Great review. I’m going Tahoe. More space and the 2nd and 3rd row seats fold flat. Sequoia with the batteries you need to do other work and attachments to get a flat bed. That’s a HUGE draw back.
Where is the rear seat entertainment system on the Sequoia. I can't believe after the redesign Sequoia still doesn't offer a rear independent suspension. That's why there's no room in the third row.
A Sequoia will have better resell value than a Tahoe so you can always trade it in sell it for a newer model, plus it would most likely give you less mechanical issues as time goes on too, I would choose the Sequoia
Basically just another Toyota fan speculating based off a reputation for reliability that the Toyota Tundra has already proven to be outdated and out of touch with reality.
If buying new, I'm buying the Tahoe. It makes the better mall crawler and road trip suv. Toyota is catering the Sequoia to a very small offroader/overlander group.
Agreed…even though the resale value is higher w Toyota….Chevy has more room, competitive tech and better styling in my opinion (outside of the halogen taillights)
@@cornbread70s4 bro what you can’t say that for the new vehicles coming out, looking at the resale value of new Japanese cars compared to one that older with the same miles, the new one is cheaper. American cars have always had very high resale values, with a 2009 Jeep Wrangler with 200k on the dash is still worth 17k!
Everyone compares resale value to MSRP and thinks Toyota has the best resale value. But you must look at actual sold price compared to resold price. Toyota does not give discounts, while you can get $7-10k off a Chevy. With that in consideration, Chevy actually has the better resale value.
Them Tahoes (imo) are plain and slip through my mind.. especially with fleet ones. I’d personally want to drive a car people will look at. I’m not solid on this but wouldn’t people get a tax cut bc it’s a hybrid? Anyways I’d get the Toyota new.. and if I wasn’t solid with it - trade it in w that resale value and get a depreciated Tahoe 🤷🏽♂️
LOL what LOL SMH Actually they’re making an SUV that can tow more and get superior mpg over the competition while delivering great all weather capabilities and comfort (Lexus Interior). Nobody goes 4wheeling in any of these land yachts regardless of manufacturer. Hell, 98% of 4WD’s that come into my shop have ever seen anything worse that a gravel driveway, including Jeep Rubicon’s
Well despite the 2023 Toyota Sequoia's flaws it is indeed a very competitive entry in this segment as reflected by the scores obtained in the comparison. I am interested to see how sales and market share will be affected by Sequoia's introduction in the upcoming model year.
I expect poor sales for the sequoia. Plus the reason to even get a big suv like this is for more interior space. That’s really really lacking… and i can’t stress the really enough
@@matthewalexis The Sequoia has never been a best seller. The most Sequoias sold in a year was 45,000 back in 2005 (it’s first model year). That’s less than the Chevy Tahoe’s worst sales year of 73,000 in 2012. GM owns 70% of the large SUV segment in North America because they make superior family haulers that can also tow nearly as much as a full-size pickup truck.
@@DCuerpoJr the GM’s aren’t very reliable! We have had so many problems with our suburban premier and we’ve only had it a year and a half. I will gladly give up some of that space for the reliability of a Toyota
The Toyota build quality and interior is a step above the Tahoe. Also, the reliability and re-sale is something the Tahoe can not compete. However, the Tahoe is so much more practical than the Sequoia with tons of cargo space. Sequoia 3rd row seats is a disaster and wish they just made it a 2 row SUV with more cargo space.
That didn't stop the previous tahoe from selling so well. It had a worse 3rd row because it had a solid axle. At least Toyota came up with a shelf system to make a flatter load surface. Toyota actually took a step back and went to a solid axle, which is better for towing and give better suspension articulation. Independent rear has really bad negative camber when its loaded. The downside of the solid axle is you lose fold flat 3rd row. I personally don't need that much space. For my wife and 3 kids. What I don't like is that they did away with thw roll down back glass and the sliding 2nd row. The sloding 3rd row is nice bit I'd rather have a sliding 2nd row or both.
Keep in mind, we live in California and most states likely won’t have a Market Adjustment problem. Watched hundreds of hours of videos. Primarily of the Sequoia Capstone, Jeep GC-Summit Reserve, Jeep Wagoneer (outside Ugly, Inside OMG NIIIICE), and Audi Q7 55 Prestige Quattro. We were pre-Approved for 120k with cash down payment of 30k + trade I valued at 12k We test drove each vehicle a couple times each. The Toyota Dealerships tried to Screw us HARD! ALL of them. We were in discussion with 4 dealerships. Because the capstone and Platinum Editions were hard to find, I wanted a call as soon as one arrived. While my wife LOVED the Capstone a LOT and wanted either a capstone or Platinum in blue, all the dealership applied a “‘market adjustment” to the tune of 25k. This fee was “Just because” fee due to supply low and popularity. I refused to pay that bullshit fee. They would not even budge on the MA. We Walked. BEWARE OF TOYOTA OVERCHARGING. GMC Is Garbage. Jeep is a gold vehicle Wagoneer was nice but was ugly as shit outside. Inside was solid awesomeness. The ride was in its own class of smoothness. Well, they would not budge on the Inflated price either. We walked. The AUDI dealership not only kicked the Market Adjustment but also came down a a lot on the sticker price. The ride is amazing, perks of an Audi owner is great, power is awesome, and luxury beyond belief. Smooth ride and internal features are great. We ended up buying the Audi. We have had the vehicle for two months now and don’t regret it at all.
@@maxmx767 Yeah I dont see it either. The new Tahoes/ Suburbans/ Silverados are absolutely stunning imo. The infotainment center lacks any continuity in its design and the outside......well, it just looks Japanese. Not bad, but not exciting. It looks responsible. Lol
Both very nice but I’m going with the Toyota. Toyota quality is much better than GM. GM is still having the lifter failure problems with 6.2 & 5.3 engines.
Of course the mention of GM’s V8 lifter issues except they are being fixed at dealerships and affected customers sent on their way. Unlike Toyota, GM has fully addressed that issue with a solution that seems to work. On the contrary, new Toyotas are needing brand new engines dropped in them after weeks or months of sitting at the dealer waiting for parts. Turbocharger actuator failures that require the entire cab to be removed from the bed in order to fix. 1 wastegate failed 12 hours after the owner drove his new Tundra off the lot. Brake sensor failures, plastic trim on seats prematurely cracking. Interior trim curling and peeling off the doors on higher Platinum trim levels. Toyota fans are weird for still trying to hang on to an outdated reputation of unwavering reliability even when it clearly no longer applies. The lack of quality on the 2022 Toyota Tundra is abysmal. *What a joke.*
@@bourbonbill Toyota has better reliability no matter which way you try and slice it. Definitely Toyota Sequoia. Never again in my life I will buy GM. My last suv from GM lasted only 38k miles before the engine completely broke down. Replaced the engine, then traction control broke. Fixed that then steering rack and pinion locked up. You want trouble? Go buy GM junk.
So slightly bias but in a weird way. I have a 2022 High Country Tahoe (fully loaded) but before this, I’ve only owned Toyota 4Runners and one Toyota Corolla. So I’m a Toyota girl. BUT, I noticed you all kept giving points to Toyota for every tiny thing but wouldn’t really give a point to the Tahoe when it exceeded something the Toyota did. Didn’t think the points system was fair, BUT another thing to keep in mind on the Seqouia are the interior colors. For $80k people are going to be looking at that and want a luxury feel. The capstone has two tones interiors (black and white/half and half on the seats) whereas the high country is one solid colors for the seats, dash, etc. Seems small but when you see it side by side 99% of people will not want the dual colors on the seats for a luxury vehicle. Some will, most won’t.
I wish Toyota/Lexus would listen to consumers and make something comparable to the Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV. I hate my GM SUV but I am giving up a ton of space to go back to Toyota or Lexus.
I feel you should of given Chevy/GMC at least a half a point for having engine options including a diesel... People like options. Also, the diesel would have better fuel economy than the Toyota. How do those fuel mileage numbers add up in a cold environment?
THE TOYOTA ENGINE BEATS THEM ALL BUT MAYBE THE DIESEL AND THATS $8000 MORE AND CONSUMERS REPORT SAID THE GM WAS THE # 1 MOST TROUBLED VEHICLES ON THE MARKET. CHINA/GM NO THANKS 3
Working as a tech for GM I’d get a Toyota, can’t get parts for either but within 7000 miles the lifters are going go bad causing a engine noise and misfire. It’s really ridiculous on what the customers have to go through driving these pieces of shit. The 5.3 the 6.2 is flat out trash. Haven’t seen too many issues with the diesels but the only reason for is because they are rare and we don’t hardly see them.
Tahoe for me hands down. Seen both parked side by side in Yosemite last week. Tahoe was much easier on the eye especially in light gray (white?) color! Not a fan of new Japanese car design.
@@kromahj IMO the Toyota grill looks better than the Tahoe, but a Yukon grill looks better than the Toyota. To me the Toyota interior looks like something off of the old Speed Racer cartoon. Looks cheap and plastic.
Sequoia hand down for many good reasons: reliability, environmental friendly, better MPG, better off road capabilities, better resale value down the road and more towing capacity plus a few thousands cheaper.
Push button gear shifting is a huge revolution. I can’t tell you how many times that shifter has gotten in my way over the years, plus it has at times shifted due to something pushing on it which isn’t safe.
For the last 8 months i was planning on getting the Sequoia , Now i think i will have to stick with the tahoe. Just torn between the Tahoe or EV Silverado once it is released. The Sequoia just does not have enough room behind the 3rd row, but I like the mileage on Sequoia. You never stated the tahoe mileage but I figure it should be the same as the tahoe i have now at around 15 mpg .
For opinion on ride comfort, was that solely on front passenger seats on straight roads? Because Sequoia has solid axial with heavy battery at the rear, I would expect rear to swing with so much more body roll at every corners. All these can potentially make rear passengers feeling very uncomfortable (car sick).
I'm planning to get a Toyota Sequoia 2023 for $66,000. For the long term. I'm the type of guy that uses a car until it lasts. I'm 46. This is my automobile until I die!!! 😎😎😎
There's a couple features of the Sequoia that have been overlooked. First, the steering radius in the Seq is nuts. I watched a Tahoe parked in front of me pull a shity (Uturn), hit the opposing sidewalk, back up, and then proceed. I followed him but turned into the inside lane. Secondly is the airbag controlled rear suspension. Regardless of your cargo weight or tow load that vehilce is level. You wont see the front end popped up because they have a heavy trailer. Dead level. The other advantage is being able to drop down the rear for towing hook ups and ability to drop the truck for parking limits. I have the first year G2 2008 sequoia. Best truck ever, country driven, livestock pulling, 580,000k no major repairs. Drives new. I expect that even though it's a new model, the reliability will be equal to what I've experienced. Too bad I don't need one.😁
Toyota needs to bump the build quality of the Sequoia and also offer an XL version that has a longer wheel base. If they did that, they would be the number 1 by lightyears.
Hello gentlemen. Good comparison video between the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and the new generation 2023 Toyota Sequoia. These two are BIG BEASTS for sure. In terms of vehicle of choice I would choose the Chevy Tahoe. That would be the chosen vehicle primarily due to being more spacious for interior storage up front, passenger space and space behind the third row seats. Like what was demonstrated in the video a more premium audio system. I also like the fact that it has quad exhaust tips which are exposed and it's good to hear acoustic sounds from the V8 engine. That V8 growling sound is the signature sound everybody wants to hear when driving a big full size SUV. In a upcoming comparison video it would be good to see the 2023 Toyota Sequoia go up against the Ford Expedition. I assume you guys are probably having the thought process of making a video between those two vehicles. For what I'll say next might be asking for too much, but I'll mention it anyway. Is it possible for in the near future a three way comparison video gets made for the first time? If so, it would be great to see for sure. If possible it would be nice to see the Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Jeep Wagoneer going up against each other. Or another three way comparison would be Jeep Wagoneer, Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia. In general the three way comparison videos wouldn't be for full size SUVs only. Can be for the smaller mid-size and compact size SUVs as well. If a three way comparison video can't be made I would understand due to the fact that it'll be a very time consuming process. I mentioned it because no other You Tube car reviewer channel did a three way comparison video before. If you guys can do it your channel would be the first to do so.
For expensive vehicles specially with GM products the problem is the maintenance and resale value in that case I will definitely trade my 2019 chevy suburban for the new Sequoia.
The optional bench 2nd row in the Tahoe and the lack of room both in the 3rd row seating and trunk are complete L’s for the Sequoia that can’t be overcome.
My first car was a 1987 Chevy caprice. Loved it at beginning for its size, muscle and comfort…until its engine cracked into half, literally, @ 80k miles. I love the looks & spcs of thirst new Cadillac lineups but hesitate to get one, I learned my lesson.
One thing, an important one, wasn’t considered between the Chevy and the Toyota. While Chevy will need maintenance and repairs more frequently (depending on the driving style too) Toyota will run for 200 k miles and plus, without any major repairs and issues. Now that’s a very important point and an easy decision based on their reliability, which will serve your family longer and better.
Not necessarily. This hybrid powertrain with twin turbos is brand new and never before seen. Only time will tell if it meets Toyota’s standard for reliability.
I would be concerned with the new Hybrid V6 from Toyota. Brand new and haven’t worked out the bugs. Mind you that is the only option for Power in the Toyota. Chevy sells a TON of the V8s and are basically Bulletproof and have been around a long time making parts fairly cheap.
The Sequoia is easily the winner for me. It inherits the rock solid build quality of all Toyota trucks and the interior is generations ahead of all the cheap plastic in the Chevy. I wish it had independent rear suspension and ANY subscription service is absurd at this price point but the savings at the pump offset that. I’m looking forward to test driving one.
@@CarConfections i think it’s a terrible vehicle, 2nd row don’t slide, 3 row is no room, no cargo space, material quality is very Toyota, ride quality, problem with the turbo, roof is low, probably noiser in the real world than the GM, cheap plastics
I’ve owned and do own a Tahoe and while they’re a good truck they leave quite a bit to be desired. They’re always way behind the tech curve. Engine and power train is great with the 6.2, had no real big issues. BIG problems, interior rattles over time was absolutely maddening and electrical issues have been just as crazy. The independent rear suspension makes for almost luxury car ride but absolutely SUCKS for towing, with only 5800 lbs behind it it feels like the back tires are flat when at highway speeds. Can’t wait to park a Sequoia in the driveway! Thank god Toyota understands that not all buyers want an SUV that’s actually a commuter car/station wagon.
I agree with you, American vehicles rattled, always on service repairs, tons of recalls, value drops significantly and much more. Toyota and Lexus it is as good it gets.
They are somewhat similar in some aspects the chevy independent rear suspension and naturally aspirated V8 are what makes they chevy the better and more reliable truck

I think Toyota wins in some areas which were not emphasized. 1 Reliability, 2 Holding value, I think that is a big one, 3 More power with better economy. I like the V8 more than V6, but with chevys quality and reliability issues I would refrain from buying it.
Since 2000 I've owned (1) New Chevy Suburban and (6) New GMC Yukon Denalis. Recently - really got burned by GM warranty. Badly. The Service Manager for Dealership even showed me internal GM emails about some of GM's warranty "practices" -- and now I just can't buy a GM vehicle. For first time - buying non GM this summer. Not telling others what to do - to each his own - just saying that after 7 brand new GMs...and despite really liking the Yukon/Tahoe family....at this point I can't fathom buying one. Enjoy motoring everyone -- it's ok to enjoy the road and power and comfort.
So I'm in the market for either one of these, and I really like how you did the point system for each feature. You went in increments of .5 which is completely fine, until you got to the trunk space. The Tahoe didn't have a life changing massive increase and you bumped it up 1.5 points. I lost interest in the video right after. I get you don't want to be biased towards one company over the other. But you cant just bump up extra points when one company is falling behind, it makes you lose creditability as a reviewer.
The reason for that was .5 points for each configuration (behind 3rd, 2nd and 1st rows). Sometimes one SUV will will one and not the other but in this case the Tahoe sweep all 3 categories. Thanks for watching 👍
@@CarConfections something you should consider when reviewing cabin space is that there is no standard followed by manufacturers when it comes to rating their front, mid and rear leg room etc. so when they report their leg room you can’t really know for sure how they measured. Despite everyone calling the new sequoia absolutel trash, I really like it and as shown in this comparison it’s very competitive, for taller drivers like me, the extending thigh cushion is very important, I also love that it come with heated and cooled backseats, and while the third row headroom isn’t the best, i would mostly put my little cousins back there so that’s not that big of a problem for me. More space won't matter, when you are left stranded on the road.
Where is the rear seat entertainment system on the Sequoia. I can't believe after the redesign Sequoia still doesn't offer a rear independent suspension. That's why there's no room in the third row.
Toyota legendary reliability. 30 years from now it will still hold it's value and ride solid. I love what you do for me toyota!
Who wants to keep a car for 30 years??
Just wait till that hybrid breaks plus it’s based on the new tundra which is so bad it’s not even recommended by consumer reports
A Sequoia will have better resell value than a Tahoe so you can always trade it in sell it for a newer model, plus it would most likely give you less mechanical issues as time goes on too, I would choose the Sequoia
You know that for fact? The 6.2 is tried and tested, while Toyota's new hybrid is brand new.
Basically just another Toyota fan speculating based off a reputation for reliability that the Toyota Tundra has already proven to be outdated and out of touch with reality.
@Da Vee Day! how long is long-term?
LOL what LOL SMH
Actually they’re making an SUV that can tow more and get superior mpg over the competition while delivering great all weather capabilities and comfort (Lexus Interior).

@@CramerCrew what year suburban ?
Absolutely NO-ONE can rival your comparison videos!!
Thanks! We appreciate that!

We were pre-Approved for 120k with cash down payment of 30k + trade I valued at 12k
We test drove each vehicle a couple times each.
The Toyota Dealerships tried to Screw us HARD! ALL
of them.
Both vehicles are great but I’ll pick the Sequoia
I would go with the Toyota. Looks more luxurious inside and out. On top of that it is much, much, much, much more reliable than the Tahoe.
It looks more luxurious?!?!?.....The Toyota??

Both very nice but I’m going with the Toyota. Toyota quality is much better than GM. GM is still having the lifter failure problems with 6.2 & 5.3 engines.
Toyota is having turbo failures on its new engine so probably equal issues
The Toyota is a win for me. Love the white interior looks more luxurious.
Some will, most won’t.
while I'm in that 1%
I wish Toyota/Lexus would listen to consumers and make something comparable to the Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV. I hate my GM SUV but I am giving up a ton of space to go back to Toyota or Lexus.
CHEVY.
I feel you should of given Chevy/GMC at least a half a point for having engine options including a diesel... People like options. Also, the diesel would have better fuel economy than the Toyota. How do those fuel mileage numbers add up in a cold environment?
We’re actually looking into buying and SUV and the diesel option (I believe) still wasn’t as good as the Sequoia’s fuel economy.
@@ReginaAnnRod we just got our Tahoe with the diesel and it gets between 26 and 29 mpg

Turbo failures + Part-time transfer case + Folded 3rd tow not being even with floor = deal breakers

I would still choose the Tahoe but the sequoia did step up
Depending on the Tahoe, it actually has better features than Toyota.

Get thr sequoia
For opinion on ride comfort, was that solely on front passenger seats on straight roads? Because Sequoia has solid axial with heavy battery at the rear, I would expect rear to swing with so much more body roll at every corners. All these can potentially make rear passengers feeling very uncomfortable (car sick).
Seem like the sequoia is a more complex system that I wouldn’t feel comfortable working on if and when I ever need to replace a part
100% agree. Chevy sells a TON of these vehicles and should be more affordable to repair.
Great comparison but I would give the Toyota another full point for historically being the most reliable, dependable & durable so…..Sequioa wins 😂
Lol loses for new engine with a long history of problems
Love the comparison video! The Sequoia wins hands down for me! We can't wait to purchase one!
This Sequoia's turning radius is a foot wider than the Tahoe...3 feet wider in TRD trim.
I would buy the Sequoia. I love the styling and design shape of it.
Toyota needs to bump the build quality of the Sequoia and also offer an XL version that has a longer wheel base. If they did that, they would be the number 1 by lightyears.
I think the tahoe has an advantage because of the rear room space.
The only advantage is it breaking down
Sequoia has quality and longevity behind it. I'm sticking with the Toyota.
Competition is always great! Both are great.
Lol same here. Loved that car
If you keep up with maintenance for the chevy, I'm pretty sure it can hit 200k or over just like the old ones.

Great review Gents... I love the 6.2 V8 but the interior styling, ventilated second row seats and gas mileage make the Toyota my choice.
Thank you!
You can add the fact that the 2023 high country comes with the optional super cruise, giving it the slight advantage
Exactly! I’m buying mine to tow a 5000lb boat and 4500lb enclosed trailer while being able to haul 8 of us to the lake.
I agree with you, American vehicles rattled, always on service repairs, tons of recalls, value drops significantly and much more.
Toyota and Lexus it is as good it gets.

I would choose Tahoe with diesel engine with better fuel economy.
Diesel is more expensive than gas so end up the ssme

The Toyota Sequoia is By far more Superior.

I am A GM man through-and-through, So I prefer the Tahoe. But I have to say this, as part of my job I drive hybrid Camery's, And when you fill the gas tank the needle does not move, No matter how many miles you drive. It is excellent on gas. So owning a big truck I would prefer the Sequoia
Toyota for me is perfect 😍😁😅😅😆 Toyota gives extra life in miles.
I don't understand how so many can lay 83k down for a tahoe. That's insane
At the end of these type of videos, can you list out the category and the points? Thanks!
Thought so too!
@@CarConfections something you should consider when reviewing cabin space is that there is no standard followed by manufacturers when it comes to rating their front, mid and rear leg room etc. so when they report their leg room you can’t really know for sure how they measured.
Maybe you could ask the manufacturers going forward how they measure their leg room? That would be nice to know.
I’m a sucker for LED lights so I’m glad Toyota gives you full LED’s in the back which is expected on a vehicle this expensive. I also love that it can simply just tow more, while having more power and torque. The interior also has a more luxurious design in my opinion. There is also the mpg benefits which is a bonus, It’s also cheaper tooIf I were in this segment, I would definitely buy a sequoia over the Yukon as it fits my needs better
Don't forget, the Sequoia is also more reliable and has much better resale value.
