The Capstone Sequoia cost around $80,000 and the Ultra Luxury LX cost nearly $130,000! Is it worth the extra dough even though they share a platform and many other aspects??

    Have to point out that the Land Cruiser (and by extension the LX) has legendary off roading capabilities. The Sequoia is more of a people mover. Also should note that the LX is still made in Japan while the Sequoia is coming out of Toyota’s Texas factory.

      There is always a "cost" or value for things, and yes some people may be willing to pay that extra cost.... but ..let's be honest. Is it really worth that crazy extra premium price because something is made in Japan?
      2) Sure, the Lexus is more offroad capable, but why or who takes such expensive Suv's offroading ....and how often would you do it ? It would be cheaper to buy the Seq and buy a used 4runner/Tacoma/Tundra with the money you saved, modify it a little, and use that for offroading. Why would one risk damaging an expensive suv worth over 120k if something happened while offroading.

    Great comparison, thanks for putting it together. I just finished driving these two vehicles over the last two days to possibly replace our 200 series LC. The LX is amazing, but I have to be honest, there were more wow factors for me with the Sequoia, especially for the 28K less price tag. Kind of interesting. I think the Sequoia's dash/interior is better thought out. The LX top screen seems like an afterthought. The growl of the Sequoia (however fake it may be) is fun and yes, you certainly can feel the extra torque in the Sequoia. The Sequoia's rear glass hatch is an awesome benefit for any dog owner (which we are). Sequoia also as the foot-wave rear hatch opener that the LX didn't. I really want to like the LX so much better, but sheesh, that Sequoia makes it a very hard argument! Regards and thanks again.

    Finally brothers, the comparison that I've been awaiting! I'm just going to say it: Unless you're the ultimate LX fan or desire to be chauffered, get the Toyota, especially considering the quantum leap that the Sequoia has become.
    The Toyota is roomier(always has been), offers greater power, has a more advanced gauge cluster(the Lexus system dates back to 2010), the screens in the Lexus seem dated compared to the Toyota, has a wireless phone charger up front(what in the heck was Lexus thinking in cheapening out this bad), has a panoramic roof, has more advanced exterior lighting with the dynamic signals, power running boards(spare me the offroading argument for the LX since 99.9% will never see nothing more severe than a speed bump at Bergdorf), etc. Lexus even put the same manual sunshades from the Toyota in a supposed ultra-luxury model.
    Sure, the Lexus' hydraulic suspension and Mark Levinson sound system are excellent, but not an extra $50K nice. I also noticed that you brothers heads were bobbing between the shifts on the acceleration run in the Lexus versus the Toyota. That is very un-luxury like. You're not supposed to feel the shifts. Finally, the new Range Rover I-6 offers the same power of the Lexus and its interior is world's better.(the Lexus actually looks dated compared to the Toyota, especially the dash area). Yes, I know there are those that will say "but the reliability" of the Lexus, and that is true. But if it is "luxury" you're after, the Lexus wouldn't be my first choice.

    • @sly9263
      @sly9263 Год назад +5

      The LX is overpriced for what's a low effort facelift on the new Landcruiser 300. It might be a better value proposition in a few years if they upgrade and correct the right items, but I wouldn't hold my breath as Lexus is the slowest in the industry when it comes to making changes.

      1. The double screens....the information screen look like a last minute slap on so they can go home that day.
      2. The Gauge Cluster should have one nice big screen instead of separate for the Temperature & Fuel gauges. What a wasted of real estate there.
      3. Rear seats manual Window Shades wtf? And also manual Sunroof shade.
      4. Rear hatch not a clamshell or have open glass. These are deal breaker....
      sales number will be horrible just like the LS500.

      @sly9263 Год назад +5

      @@dexterrr9163 eh... no offense but a lot of people who don't know much about cars talk about turbos as if they're some big liability. modern turbos last 150--200k miles and pay for their replacement 3-4 times over in fuel savings over a v8 in that span of time anyway. the G-wagon interior quality is pure dogshit tho (like most mercedes). I've looked at a few of them 3-4-5 years old and the interior is peeling, the plastics all over squeak, and the leather wears like shit. I was really surprised how bad the G-wagon interior looked after a few years, esp vs a Lexus that will look almost identical to brand new 5-10 years later.

    biggest drawback with new sequoia is that it loses full time 4wd ability. It is jow only part time 4wd. This is huge dealbreaker in northern climates where in cities the road condition varies and you’d need to constantly switch between 4hi-2hi in sequoia

    Thanks for the review , its hard to choose though I think may be the Sequoia am not sure , well may be in 2 to 5 years if I get Lucky I can get a used one ,for now am going to have to Stick and choose the Honda 2016 CRV that I own 😂😅 so wish me luck while I keep dreaming , one more thing the price I will have to pay for a used one here in the Dominican Republic would be the same amount as if I bought a Brand New One in the States.

    So here are my opinions Mason and Drew and for all the people I would buy the Sequoia for a daily driver for the digital gauge cluster and for the very luxurious interior however I wish to Capstone would offer more power combos because I've not a big fan of the white and black seats now if I had three or four kids I would definitely buy the Lexus because of the flat floor and more cargo space but overall they're both very very nice vehicles but I think I would get the Sequoia

  • @mrwutitdew
    @mrwutitdew Год назад +1

    For the life of me I cant understand why They would give the Toyota more power than the Lexus. I do like the Capstone, but white and black seats in a no go for me. Also. for the MPG that they are getting in these V6s. They should have just kept the bullet proof 5.7 that mostly everyone loved.

    Dealership experience is a major thumb on the scale for Lexus, but I still don’t think it’s worth it. LX600 is an exercise in a vehicle with an identity crisis.

    To clarify, when you said the Lexus didn’t have a wireless charger upfront, that is only true on the ultra luxury due to the focus on the rear seat passenger where the wireless charger is located in the back. The lower trims have the wireless charger in the front.

    The gauge cluster of the LX looks so old, particularly the analog dials on the left and right sides. They are not just analog, they also look low-end. A Hyundai Elantra Limited gauge cluster is better than the LX.

    You didn't rate their offroad capability at all. It would have been nice to see that. I'm not talking about boulder-crawling. But an unpaved national forest road is a place I might want to take either vehicle. Also, why should the same engine work with regular gas on one vehicle and require premium in the other? That doesn't make sense to me.

      They also nixed the split tailgate on the LX. Both of those features were very useful and loved by those who own the vehicles, me included. You lose a lot of capability by removing them.

      The rear glass rolled down on the previous gen Sequoia. The new third gen flips up like the new Lexus GX, while the LX (and LC 300 for everyone else) no longer has the split tailgate

  • @drsus0

    the third row set up on the sequoia is the most baffling thing ive ever seen. it renders not one the 3rd row useless, but also the whole cargo area is destroyed by it.

  • @gp3012
    @gp3012 Год назад +3

    You can’t take a point away because you’re comparing the only Lexus trim at of 5 that has only 4 seats. You’re right, Lexus does not have an air suspension, it’s hydraulic, which is better. As for off road capability- Lexus can add an additional 7 inches to the active height control on top of its 8inch ground clearance, while sequoia is fixed at a 8 inches and can only be lowered. If you have the money to buy a Lexus, you’re probably not concerned about mpg and premium fuel. With the Lexus, you get what you pay for. Sequoia is the poor man’s version of the LX.
