I can’t believe you drove this suv TFL. Such a total disappointment and total wasted effort. You’re much better off reviewing the kia telluride 10 times over and over. That will never get old This suv is already a dead man walking and it’s not even on sale yet. Typical Toyota. Brand new hype yet it’s many steps backwards to the point where we don’t have to drive it to determine that it’s a total failure and an automotive embarrassment
If you're going to make that weird third row configuration, at least give the rest of us a delete option. I hate that third rows come standard on many vehicles when I could just have the cargo room instead.
@@brianm7120 True but I think having a 2-3 inch difference in floor height is more manageable than having to throw something up and over the folded 3rd-row seats. Additionally the seat delete would make the space usable for dogs
I felt the same. Highlander also has 8 passenger. So this is pointless without extra storage. While searching top ten longest suv, this one isn’t even in the list.
Reason I don't like the new sequoia compared to my 2011 platum I have a v8 not a hybrid and I have sliding window not a supid window so new sequoia dissioped
I had very few issues with my '06 Sequoia. My '16 Tahoe has had 2 bad Air Conditioners, 1 piston, a starter, thermostat, electrical issues, XM antennae, and multiple rattles. Otherwise, I love it:) Looking forward to going back to Toyota quality.
Our 1998 Suburban had major problems - too many to bother listing. Loved the room and power but my life experience has left me convinced GM intentionally cuts corners probably to keep the dealers and mechanics employed. And many smaller cities and towns only have domestic dealers so people buy them. I've had a few issues with my 07 Tundra SR5 5.7 liter - but nothing compared to the GM. Toyota has no choice but to build better but people put up with domestic so the domestics can build less better? My Toyota truck is still going strong. The only issue I have so far is the complexity of this new Toyota powertrain already having issues with turbos and lets see how well that in frame battery behaves. IMO Toyota does quality better whilst domestic design-wise are superior but may leave you more stranded LOL
Wow, or just bad luck, I have 3 Chevy's a 2005 Tahoe with 200,000 miles and only had to change the water pump. A 2014 LTZ with 100,000 miles and only have had to put gas in it and change the oil every 3,000 miles with dexos approved full synthetic. I have also had my mechanic check and change all fluids when do. My mechanic also has a 2016 Tahoe and he said pay me now or pay me later! 🤔 He basically said GM is great if your willing to put in the work and make sure you schedule out all the maintenance and make that a priority and if you do your Tahoe will last 300,000 miles.
Buy an Expedition. Traded my 2004 Expedition (never had any issues other than power-seat motors) back in 2020 on a new 2020 Expedition so far super happy. Lots of room plenty of power decent mileage if you don’t stick your foot down.
@@jshep2237 I had a 2019 Ford Expedition limited trim. I loved everything you mentioned except for 2 things..1st it has a turbo and 2nd it's a Ford. I've owned several Ford vehicles, they are really good in the short-term. My concern was 2 yrs from now. I ended up trading it in for a 2016 Lexus GX460. Gas mileage sucks but man is it a smooth engine. I love it for 2 things...1st it has a proven v-8 and 2nd it's a Lexus/Toyota.
That third row is probably a deal breaker for me unless it's removable. Those seats severely limit the cargo capability even while in their folded position. I want third row but they're not something I'm going to use a lot. Besides the third row seats taking up so much room the rest of the vehicle looks outstanding.
Having 2015 Sequoia Platinum now - trunk and 3rd seat row is a deal-breaker for me too. For long trips will be super inconvenient having not flat floor and also small things always will be stuck under the seats, between niches etc. (damn pain in the ass) Have no idea who are excited about this trunk "shelf" in 2022 :(
That third row looks like it has a lot less space than my gen 1. Everything else is pretty standard now for new vehicles. Not sure it successfully convinced me to upgrade.
25 mpg and 500 ft/lb of torque pretty good tradeoff. but really depends on how often your using the 3rd row. if you really need the third row going suburban or expedition would be the way to go.
We bought an Expedition last year and I can tell yeah, with the exception of having to park it outside due to a unknown engine fire recall by Ford, the space of the 3rd row folded FLAT basically turns it into a covered truck bed.
Chevy Tahoe is a brand name and it's not going to be replaced by any other vehicle, just like the F-150 people buy these vehicles for business and family and in my opinion no Toyota can ever replace either.
3rd row is kinda a fail tbh IMO. Interested to see the difference between this SR5 and the Limited, the sr5 here seems really well equipped. Really wanna know the pricing too… I have a feeling a SR5 4x4 with a few options will cost north of $65k…
Yeah, I am pretty afraid of what the price will be, even just because of the fact that its hybrid only. I can't imagine the base price is going to be less than 55k for a 2wd seeing as the Expedition XL STX with a non-hybrid 3.5, no 3rd row, and 2wd is almost $53k before destination charges.
Toyota dealers in my region haven’t sold any SUVs for less than several $1000 over msrp for 10+ yrs. A RAV4 is well past 40. No way in hell your getting a Sequoia for less than $65,000.
third row is a HUGE fail especially given how great the previous generation sequoia was. The combination of the solid rear axle and the battery pack really just took so much room from the rest of the vehicle. Additionally, the lack of a center differential or any sort of an automatic 4WD mode would make this a TOUGH buy over the expedition, Tahoe, or Wagoneer.
The white trd pro looks amazing but the uneven floor with the seats down is a minus for overlanding. And you need a subscription for navigation which doesn't make sense IMO.
Wow when he said combined mpg for a new hybrid Tundra is 19-20….. that’s pretty awful considering many V8 engines and the simple Eco boost Fords can manage that. Shoot the 5.7 Hemi in my Durango easily manages that and it’s ancient
Gotta be kidding with the headline. Chevy has been making the Suburban since the 1930s. No one is going to unseat American large SUVS. I may purchase this though but the Traverse and up in Chevys lineup is awesome
Agree with others, not having a fold flat read for dogs and bags is a total no go for me. I wish on all of these 3 row one could get w/o 3rd row as an option. Not everyone wants a school bus.
Expedition can be had without 3rd row. They started doing that in 2020. Lots of full sized SUV buyers actually need seats for 5 and gear space behind the 2nd row, add 4x4 capability and towing capability given zero mid sized SUVS have 4x4 now. AWD is not 4hi/low.
Agreed. We have younger 3 kids in hockey. My wife (5’2” ) would not enjoy heaving 3 hockey bags on top of of those folded rear seats. The parcel shelf is a band aid solution to a problem Toyota likely recognized. Otherwise love the vehicle.
Given the odd 2-3 inch step up then the height of the 3rd row folded seats its going to be hated by most of the people who want these for utility/ gear hauling. If most of these are 2nd row Sienna bucket seats it will most definitely not compete with the Tahoe/Yukon/Expedition. It looks like Sienna mini van designers were in charge of everything behind the front row seats.
I strongly considered waiting for the new Sequoia. However, for the past year I’ve been extremely happy with my Duramax Yukon. I’m averaging an honest 26.8 MPG and the truck has been flawless. Already 38k on it!
@@liberty4175 just so you know diesel have been more reliable than gas vehicles. In fact VWs diesel models have lasted longer than gas models so that argument of 100k is flawed and that’s coming from someone who isnt a fan from VW but a mechanic who generally has worked on gas and diesel. Theres a reason who you still see ford excursions on the road today
Overall I think it’s just too small, compared to a Tahoe and it’s lights out against the Suburban. That coupled with the solid rear axle really cuts down on space. If you want to haul people, the sienna minivan is a way better choice
a minivan will always be the better choice for passengers - and SUV is really for those that will use the 3rd row not frequently, or for kids. obviously for not adults
@@MarksTech A minivan is a poor choice for *adult* passengers, frankly. Unfortunately, with the widespread demise of the full size passenger van, full size SUVs are generally the best option for hauling adults. But I don't think the Sequoia counts at all on that front. That third row is absolutely horrible.
As others have said, I wish there was a rear seat delete. As for the sliding rear window is okay if it’s gone if you can at least still have it open like that.
The only recurring problem I ever had with my 4runner is with the sliding rear window. Cool to have but I would prefer a standard opening. I'm nervous it's gonna break again every time I open it.
@@gp.5989 like the Tahoe this is a suv that hauls family and a trailer not cargo and a family. A van is better suited for cargo and family. Not a truck based suv

The wheelbase in this new Sequoia is short even for a none XL version. The Tahoe has more space as the rear wheels are almost completely behind the rear passenger doors instead of sacrificing quite a bit of rear door length because of the rear wheels like in this sequoia.
The placement of the third row when the seats are folded is ridiculous... I have a Highlander, wich is much smaller than a Sequoia, and the third row lays completely flat in the floor when folded... Very big flaw for the new Sequoia in my opinion. Unforgivable in a modern full size SUV.
@@ratukamina true but to the buyers of these truck cargo space is more important than having 1-2 more miles per gallon... I think... You don't buy a Sequoia to save fuel.
@youtubecantsaveallthesnowflakes I mean the rav 4 is a class leader in sales so toyota has the formula down. You may think its ugly but the numbers dont lie.
@youtubecantsaveallthesnowflakes i mean not really. Old maytags had proven themselves yeah but new ones don’t really do that anymore. Not many people buy Maytag anymore. They buy Samsung, LG and whirlpools. Toyota sales are growing. More people are buying Toyotas today than they did when the “indestructible” hilux trucks were made. So I’m not sure that analogy really works; but hey if you don’t like Toyota buy a Ford or Chevy or a Ram! All great vehicles in my eyes.
Ehhh one of the reasons GM owns that market is the familiarity of their engines. The 5.3,6.2, and the 3.0 diesel have been around for awhile now. This twin turbo set up may not appeal to some repeat Toyota buyers because the reliability of their older engines were proven. The complexity of this engine along with hybrid set up may be an issue in the long run
@@mcmehlen not really….you need to check out the tundra forums and see the reported issues with this new ttv6. I’ve owned suburban and Yukon xl suvs since 2008. No issues.
Chevy Tahoe / GMC Yukon have been around continuously for little over 27 years and have establish a name in that segment. Now , that sequoia's wheel wells and crease lines look similar to GMC's Sierra .
100 bucks min Full tank. Very nice looking truck. As a 2002 new sequoia purchaser when they came out, I was very impressed. Bought the 2002 SR5 with leather and pretty much loaded as I added a few other options. 44k The limited started at 45K
100% agree, I wanted to order one of these but they're simply not enough room in the back to haul our four large dogs around. once I saw the pictures of this I put an order in on a new Suburban diesel. I should be getting it within the next couple weeks.
I like the looks, the engine, the entertainment system changes but the second, third and rear is MUCH worse to me. The back door is okay. The side step should be on the Tundra too.
Second row bench is a must to compete with Tahoe/Yukon/Expedition. These are utility vehicles so gear behind 2nd row and seating for 5 is a must. The weird 2/3 inch step from rear to 3d row reminds me of the old Tahoe/Yukon that needed a redesign badly!
I will stick with the Tahoe. Nice improvement over last one, but too small for a FS SUV not enough leg room or headroom in 3rd row, and not much storage behind 3rd row.
Its honestly like they took all the bad design elements of the 200 series land cruiser, removed the awesome full-time 4wd system, made it bigger, made the interior crappier, kept the price tag, and called it a Sequoia. Then, in 5 years, they are going to wonder why they only sell 3000 a year and cancel it. Then maybe they will rebadge it as a Lexus LX700 and increase the price to $120,000 and still sell 3000 of them.
It will succeed. People like my dad will buy this. Hes been sitting on his old V8 4runner due to loving toyota, wanting to tow his boat but not wanting a truck. Most trucks cant fit in his garage. Tahoe was on his list but he prefers toyota/lexus and now its a hybrid. Im sure he will have this in no time.
I liked my first gen. Sequoia a lot but I feel like they've kind of missed the mark a bit with this one. Part-time transfer case is a bit disappointing, both 1st and 2nd gen had an on-pavement 4wd option so that's a step back. I actually like the solid axle for off-road, but that step underneath the 3rd row is weird. Even if you can remove the 3rd row, it still won't have a flat floor. And the rear window won't go down either like in 1st & 2nd gens.
I’ve never had a car but my dream starter vehicle back in the day was Sequoia 04-05 model. I WILL get this vehicle next year‼️ I’ve been working hard towards this‼️And it shall be mine come next year for my 31st birthday‼️
I have a Suburban LTZ - which is fantastic, but the best thing is the removable 3rd row. I don't always need it, so it typically stays out until family visits. When it's out, there an incredible amount of space. Can alleviate the need of a truck for some people!
@@allentoyokawa9068 I think a lot of full size suv owners do. Everyone I know who owns one has four kids. It kinda feels like they threw the traditional full size suv buyer out to just make a wider 4Runner. I don’t really get their plan with this.
The old tundra had more room in the 3rd row. The point of large suvs is to have room. throw the 10 speed in with the 5.7 and give it different rear end gearing with cylinder shut off and you’ll get 22mpg
I was gonna trade my 08 sequoia 5.7 on the new tundra…that’s a hot no. This sequoia is smaller on the inside than mine too. The gen two doesn’t have a transmission hump that big either. So I got a 2022 sienna XLE AWD for a passenger vehicle. 38 mpg. Roomy quiet and smooth. More room than my sequoia. Love it. Will get a 2021 or previous tundra when the time comes. Cheers folks!

Thank you for your time. I'm a fan of Japanese brands, however I drove a Tahoe as a rental a few weeks ago and I like a Tahoe more. Normally I dont care much for GM products:-) but a Tahoe changed my mind.
$85k for a sequoia. Toyota dealers are inflating the price. They told me from 7k to 10k price increase for a sequoia. I’m now about to purchase a Chevy Tahoe at 64k.
Toyota Fanboy here! For the enthusiasts, this looks like an awesome update to the last generation. However, it’ll have a hard time competing against GMC and Ford with their full size SUV’s. This is more for the person who wants an SUV but doesn’t want an American brand.
You might be right. The appeal here for us is the expected reliability. But for $70,000 +....it needs to deliver the quality on top of that. We'll see. Not really blown away so far, especially since I was sort of expecting more of a modern day Land Cruiser when I heard it was going to have a solid rear axle.
I'm honestly surprised at how it's cargo space is still less than my '89 Stationwagon. My stationwagon has 90cuft of cargo space in her. How the hell did they choose to let a flying shoebox beat it out in cargo space when it's a full size SUV?
@@smack9x the 4WD/AWD actually is a good point. Hadn't thought of that bit. And most modern vehicles are far larger than back then, so not so sure it's longer than a modern full size SUV. Plus it's extremely short, and it's not quite as wide either. So length would likely be negated by lack of height and width.
I think the external styling is great. Looks really good. That big bump up in the cargo area for the seats is pretty meh. But the shelf is a nice touch. Its pretty well equipped for a mid range trim. Will be curious what pricing is compared to the competition.
Great review, was recently discussing the Tahoe/Sequoia comparison with wife. Looking at options to upsize from Hylander. Curious how families with kid in car seat was factored in engineering. The ability to use larger entranceway appears blocked if car seat is installed in traditional passenger 2nd row position.
We are upsizing from a 4Runner to likely a Tahoe soon and one of the main reasons is the second row buck seat option. We have 2 out of 3 kids in a car seat and a bench just won't work.
Try to stick with this or Nissan armada. You'll be regretting gm choice in few years. And I've owned 4 silverados in past decade. Now own 4 runner 2022 basic but bullet proof
Idk if this is a Tahoe killer tbh, them new Tahoes look good imo. And why did Toyota even bother adding a third row?? Nobody can't fit back there, bet they just crammed those in so it could count as a three row lol.
I have been waiting for the new sequoia because I want to replace my wife's 3rd gen 4runner. Unfortunately Toyota screwed the sequoia up by only offering a hybrid. I would rather have the larger cargo area and flat floor than have a battery that gains you 1mpg and cost 10k to replace in 5 years. Also, Why would they even put in the third row seats? Make it an option and let people choose what they want. I honestly think Toyota is screwing up their whole line by not giving people the options to make their trucks useable. Who cares about trim packages that only add cost, give us the options to build an actual useable vehicle. Big miss in my opinion. I have been a Toyota customer for the last 22 years but I will not be replacing my current tundra or my wife's 4runner with Toyota products. I am tired of being told what I need instead of actually having a voice in what I get. By by Toyota.
1) the battery isn't for mpg, it's for power. I remember the time when you increase power, MPG goes down and everyone bought it. 2) since you're a toyota customer for 22 years, you should know....everyone i've talked to buys toyotas for reliability, not options. that's where the aftermarket community comes in, that's the niche. I'd rather have a manufacturer build 1M vehicles the exact same way- same options than 1M vehicles with individually chosen options. 3) bye bye customer, we've lost 1 out of millions. what will toyota do.
The 3rd row has never been an option in these vehicles, it’s why you get them for the 3rd row and the hybrid battery isn’t even taking up space, it’s under the 2nd row, it’s cos of the solid rear axle, that’s why it doesn’t fold flat
@@herewegoagain7403 I'm not the only customer who will be leaving. The reliability you are referencing is why I have owned 7 Toyotas in the last 22 years. If you want to see how reliable this hybrid system is just look at how many used hybrid Camrys are on the market. If the hybrid system isn't for economy then why is it advertised as such? You are saying that it gives the truck more power without effecting fuel consumption so it is for economy. You really think the extra power is needed at the cost of functionality, and reliability? Keep buying the sales pitch, that's what you are believing. They say there is a sucker born every minute, we just found another.
Big improvement over the older models but my wife has had her 2022 RST Suburban with the luxury package and 4WD for about 6 months now and it's an awesome vehicle. BTW, her last two vehicles were Toyotas and they were great. The Sequoia was on the list but that third row and lack of storage is kind of a letdown. Still a nice vehicle though!
My mom just sold her gls for a 22 Tahoe rst and she doesn’t like it. And I don’t blame her the amount of noise inside the cabin is worse than the older 2019 Tahoe we had wether it be wind noise or exhaust and the suspension feels rougher.
This is a very capable vehicle I wouldn’t mind owning… in addition to a Suburban. I haven’t compared exact numbers, but this new Sequoia appears to be pretty darn close to the current gen Traverse in size, than a current gen Tahoe or Expedition. Again, just eye balling this for a bit now. Clearly, far more capable than a Traverse! As many have mentioned, this needs to be able to remove that third row completely to create its own niche market. Toyota really biffed it there being so much smaller than the current gen Tahoe and Expedition…
Like the others I am a bit bummed out by that 3rd row. I get that you can’t do a fold flat row very easily in a truck based SUV because of the frame, but automakers in the past have figured out ways to make it work via folding up to the windows or into the floor via spare tire on the back door.
With the old school sliding second row seats, you can access the 3rd row when you have car seats in the second row. This new design basically eliminates the usability of the 3rd row for families with young kids.
Yup. Our 2012 sequoia has way more room in the back and is easily accessible and comfortable for our 6 ft 2 son and his sister. And we have 2 car seats in the second row and can get back to the rear easily. This design not so much. We got ours used for $23,000 with 100,000 miles. Would never buy one new.
Love the exterior styling, but I have two concerns: 1. The interior room and storage room is less than expected and 2. Is the battery really NiMH? That's old battery tech and if true, doesn't make sense why they wouldn't use Li-ion technology. Maybe Andre wasn't accurate when he said "Nickel Metal Hydride."
Toyota prefers NiMH, as they have pre-existing partnerships in place for it, and its less expensive than Lithium Ion. They said previously, they would rather make 1000 hybrids, than just a handful of EVs. Though, due to government regulations worldwide, they're being forced into expanding to have EVs and different battery tech.
@@ColJonSquall1 I didn't know that. Aren't the current Prius Hybrids Li-Ion? Or are they NIMH battery tech too? I just recall the battery tech in my old cordless power tools and how far superior Li-ion is to NiCD or NiMH
@@toddallison4390 in smaller applications like this where the battery is only being used for stop/go traffic and parking lots it's the best option in order to actually hit production targets
seats don't lay flat with the back space, that alone will be a big factor. HP and torque is a plus on this Toyota. it's hard for any company to beat the Chevy or GMC tahoe models.
Engine, exterior, transmission and interior in the front is great. Rest? Already a generation behind. Highly unlikely this will get popular with the current competition
It never was. But it's own sales will might improve compared to the previous generation. Toyota was going to kill the Sequoia because of sales but then they would not have a full size suv to offer, therefore they kept it
So instead of getting around 20 mpg with a small block v8 like a 5.3 or 4.8 you add an Insanly complicated twin turbo v6 and a hybrid motor and battary pack that's a fail in my book give me a simple efficient design that is dependable and easy to fix.
That is why I like my Land Cruiser. I removed my 3rd row seats and have LOTS of room for storage. When I pull down the second row seats, and leave the tail gate down, I fit a couch in there! 😆
Bummer on the rear storage and the third row size. That makes it hard to compete with the Tahoe. Also, what about second row bucket seats? Is that an option?
@@bcw686 It probably will, but if the space/ inside is practical for the avg buyer, it doesn't matter that it will last longer since they'll go with a different vehicle.

I love traditional suvs but I bet you’ll see a lot more Toyota buyers going with the new longer highlander coming out soon. The battery for the hybrid will go between the two rear independent suspension and then the third row will be able to fold flat. Sadly the third row in the new Sequoia is a fail. I had high hopes for this vehicle.
Tahoe / Suburban / Yukon / Yukon XL will continue to dominate. Diesel in GM is an excellent option for excellent mpg. 5.3 and 6.2 V8 still offered in GM SUV. Fold flat seats, improved interior materials, and better interior room in GM SUV
The second row is way too high. It's basically touching the hair. I'm sure there are enough room to make the floor 2 inches lower, but it appears the battery is making the floor too high.
Its not an offroad package, its a street/sport package. He says its actually a lower ride height toward the end of the video. TRD does not automatically mean offroad, although that has generally been that case for their trucks and SUV's the last 10 years or so.
Nice!! Been looking forward to a Sequoia review... As far as vs Tahoe it's going to depend on the intended use, If someone wants a city going family hauler but doesn't want a minivan it's the Tahoe, the ones that want to use their SUV for overlanding and actual SUV things they'll go for the Sequoia... For example the 3rd row people will moan and complain about it not being a "fold flat" but miss the fact that it has a solid axle ....
@@naveenthemachine maybe so, 3rd gen is sitting on a Landcruiser platform. But again like I said Tahoe is a great alternative to a minivan which is what a lot of Americans are looking for over functionality
That raised box for the powered 3rd row will make putting gear in the rear a pain. Is the 3rd row even removable or lay flat? That rear hatch button being in direct sunlight seems like a real bad idea. The leg room might be ok but the ergonomics look real uncomfortable. Also, they used a NiMH battery!? Hopefully those are cheap because the cycle life/usability is garbage.
the hybrid battery is underneath the third row so you really can't remove it. if you were to pull it out you would still have a large battery pack taken up cargo area.
One of the things I have always liked about Tahoe is the cockpit. the interior, even on an SR5 looks very commanding, very organized and quite comfortable. If money were no object I would have one of these just for going on vacation to tow my camper. Very nice rig!
I own two first gen sequoia's. They're great vehicles but they drink gas. Never cared for the aesthetics of the gen 2 sequoias. These gen 3 models look pretty good to me. Hopefully gas mileage is improved because my Gen 1's only get 15-16 mpg.
The Expedition is still the family hauler to beat. More power, better fuel economy, more towing, more tech and safety features, better packaging, more hip and head room, best 3rd row space, etc, etc. I'm not in love with the updated look of the Ford but it really excels at everything.
Do you have an expedition? I have a 18 max that has less than 30k miles and been to dealer 4x with problems with sensors and struts…. That coupled with cam phaser issues has me wanting to trade it for a Toyota asap

Did you notice the ability to manually open the rear door from the inside? I'm not talking about a push button, or pull lever where the driver is at, I always wanted the ability to open the Sequoia's rear door at the door using a handle, like the old time ago station wagons. I find with passengers being able to open the rear door manually is a great safety feature especially if theres a need to egress from an accident.
3rd row seating really limits the rear cargo area and automakers have yet to solve that conundrum. The only viable option has been to mount a cargo box on the roof. I recommend Thule.
@@BrianNC81 Excellent point. Also, hybrid vehicles have to have a vent for heat to escape. It would be very bad if you covered those vents up with gear or shelving.
Sorry but Tahoe still offers a manned up V8, also looks better, its American Branded, has more yeas on the market, but you could do a head to head comparison video I would enjoy it.
And despite all that experience they still manage to have subpar quality and reliability. They don’t even paint their frames, they coat them in tar and call it a day. Unacceptable on a 50k+ vehicle.
There is no way this is a Tahoe killer. Same space as my 07 Tahoe and if anyone owned an 07-14 Tahoe, when the 3rd row is up, there is no space at all. They really need to just make a SUV to complete with the Expedition EL, Suburban, and Wagoneer L already.
Yeah I agree because that would persuade buyers to go to the Sequoia instead of any other competitor I just don't understand why they did not add it because the third row is a joke in the Sequoia
@@allentoyokawa9068 it’s just not, at all. They need to completely redesign the cargo space with the 3rd row up to even have a chance. I doubt you’ve even owned this car or the older Tahoe I was talking about because you would know it literally is like the only drawback besides the cracking dash which doesn’t really fall apart it just cracks. Is my old Tahoe as good as this Toyota? Probably not but I would still take it over the Toyota only because it has a v8. This suv is already a dead man walking and it’s not even on sale yet.
Exactly, Looks like a RAV4 has more useful cargo space than this one.
My thoughts exactly.
Deleting the third row does not eliminate the bump. It makes it look worse.
@@brianm7120 True but I think having a 2-3 inch difference in floor height is more manageable than having to throw something up and over the folded 3rd-row seats. Additionally the seat delete would make the space usable for dogs
And if they wanted a 3rd row they should’ve had more overhang on the rear, and a longer wheelbase like its competitors.
They needed a longer xl version. The design looks awesome and the first two rows are nice. The back row and cargo space aren't great.
I felt the same. Highlander also has 8 passenger. So this is pointless without extra storage. While searching top ten longest suv, this one isn’t even in the list.
my feelings as well.
Main reason i wont be buying one.. the lack of cargo and third seat room for passengers negates all positives.
Dito, considered this one since it has the hybrid option, but saw the abismal cargo area and third row and decided to pick up a ‘23 Tahoe RST.
The sliding rear window was an awesome feature. Hope they bring it back.

Really has to be something up with GM because my Camaro has also had 2 AC’s replaced

Gas mileage sucks but man is it a smooth engine. I love it for 2 things...1st it has a proven v-8 and 2nd it's a Lexus/Toyota.
Everyone's tryna slay the Tahoe and the Denali. Ford with expedition, Chrysler with wagoneer, Toyota with this.

Toyota reduced the space.
Exactly! I feel like they’re going backwards…
Agreed and the way the seat has to fold instead of a car seat friendly tilt is also a big miss!
25 mpg and 500 ft/lb of torque pretty good tradeoff. but really depends on how often your using the 3rd row. if you really need the third row going suburban or expedition would be the way to go.
@@kenmorgan316 I'd trade a little space for more towing and gas mileage.
We bought an Expedition last year and I can tell yeah, with the exception of having to park it outside due to a unknown engine fire recall by Ford, the space of the 3rd row folded FLAT basically turns it into a covered truck bed.
Haha, just an engine fire? Sounds about right.
Yikes, you should have gotten a Yukon
Oh absolutely the space is worth the risk of a fire any day. Sign me up! LOL!
Ford quality control has been hitting out of the ballpark lately. Are any new Fords not on a recall?
Cadillac Escalade is still the KING of full size SUVs.
Chevy Tahoe is a brand name and it's not going to be replaced by any other vehicle, just like the F-150 people buy these vehicles for business and family and in my opinion no Toyota can ever replace either.

@@illinoistiger8694 cheap plastics are fine as long as it’s durable
No Tahoe killer! It looks like it make a Tahoe even look better! Love you videos!
Exactly well said. But u do think looks wise. It is one of the best looking in the class.

The white trd pro looks amazing but the uneven floor with the seats down is a minus for overlanding. And you need a subscription for navigation which doesn't make sense IMO.
Are people buying this over a 4Runner for overlanding? I assumed they'd go 4Runner but I could be wrong.
I get 30 MPGs from my 2021 Tahoe Duramax. Went 600 miles on one tank , I would like to see the Sequoia do this.
110 dollars for 600 miles is a good and bad deal but i cant decide
I get 30 MPG in my Kia forte, so I completely believe you
Won’t happen, it took a decade for Toyota to finally match the mpg of American suvs. I mean this Hybrid gets the same mpg as a standard 5.7 V8 Hemi.
It’s a hybrid there has to be room for the batteries that means the seat can’t go flat. Sorry

Overall I think it’s just too small, compared to a Tahoe and it’s lights out against the Suburban. That coupled with the solid rear axle really cuts down on space. If you want to haul people, the sienna minivan is a way better choice
A kia telluride is a much better option than this
a minivan will always be the better choice for passengers - and SUV is really for those that will use the 3rd row not frequently, or for kids. obviously for not adults

@youtubecantsaveallthesnowflakes i mean not really. Old maytags had proven themselves yeah but new ones don’t really do that anymore. Not many people buy Maytag anymore. So I’m not sure that analogy really works; but hey if you don’t like Toyota buy a Ford or Chevy or a Ram! All great vehicles in my eyes.
They're both hard to look at. 90% grille.
Ehhh one of the reasons GM owns that market is the familiarity of their engines. The 5.3,6.2, and the 3.0 diesel have been around for awhile now. This twin turbo set up may not appeal to some repeat Toyota buyers because the reliability of their older engines were proven. Agreed, even if it’s a base model like the Expedition 5 seater. Good base for “overland” builds as well with sleeping platforms or fridges.
It can't have a flat third row easily. It's got a solid axle rear end. Plus that hybrid battery had a bit of a factor in that also

I will stick with the Tahoe. Nice improvement over last one, but too small for a FS SUV not enough leg room or headroom in 3rd row, and not much storage behind 3rd row.
Chevys suck now. They have for a while
Its honestly like they took all the bad design elements of the 200 series land cruiser, removed the awesome full-time 4wd system, made it bigger, made the interior crappier, kept the price tag, and called it a Sequoia. Then, in 5 years, they are going to wonder why they only sell 3000 a year and cancel it. Then maybe they will rebadge it as a Lexus LX700 and increase the price to $120,000 and still sell 3000 of them.
I totally agree with you these new Toyotas are getting worse every year.
It is hideous inside and out.
It will succeed. People like my dad will buy this. Hes been sitting on his old V8 4runner due to loving toyota, wanting to tow his boat but not wanting a truck. Most trucks cant fit in his garage.

Where does it say it costs 10k to replace and has 5 year lifespan?
@@notsecure just referencing other Toyota batteries. They will never tell you the maintenance or repair costs. They are trying to sell you a new car!
Thanks Toyota but I will happily keep my 2008 Sequoia Limited. It has many of the same features (except Hybrid) for $70K to $80K less money.
and 13mpg is you are lucky. have fun with that. LOL. epic fail Toyota V8 efficiency. I have had 2
That tow rating is interesting, the 2010 Sequoia with the 5.7 4x4 had a 9600 lbs towing capability already back then.
Isn't that just before Toyota adopted the SAE tow ratings and all their capacities went down after that change?
With the old school sliding second row seats, you can access the 3rd row when you have car seats in the second row. This new design basically eliminates the usability of the 3rd row for families with young kids.
Yup. Our 2012 sequoia has way more room in the back and is easily accessible and comfortable for our 6 ft 2 son and his sister. And we have 2 car seats in the second row and can get back to the rear easily. This design not so much. We got ours used for $23,000 with 100,000 miles. Would never buy one new.
@@fortethetank we also have a 2012. Looks like we won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon.
It’s missing the back glass being able to role all the way down. One thing we love about our 2012 Toyota Sequoia.
Lunar moon is not nardo. Get cement! I love Toyotas cement color!
seats don't lay flat with the back space, that alone will be a big factor.
Toyota was going to kill the Sequoia because of sales but then they would not have a full size suv to offer, therefore they kept it
You make everything that a driver cares about great. So I think it’ll compete lol
So instead of getting around 20 mpg with a small block v8 like a 5.3 or 4.8 you add an Insanly complicated twin turbo v6 and a hybrid motor and battary pack that's a fail in my book give me a simple efficient design that is dependable and easy to fix.
What kind of small bock V8 gives 400+ HP, 500 lb.ft of torque, and 20 MPG?
@@Peizxcv why do you need that much power I would rather have 325 hp and 375 tq that and 400k mile lifespan on the engine.
That is why I like my Land Cruiser. I removed my 3rd row seats and have LOTS of room for storage. When I pull down the second row seats, and leave the tail gate down, I fit a couch in there! 😆
Looks great overall but I’d rather a sienna because even with a 3rd row, they collapse down and provide much more trunk space
Bummer on the rear storage and the third row size. That makes it hard to compete with the Tahoe. Also, what about second row bucket seats? Is that an option?
I agree but don't you think the Toyota will last much longer and not have as many problems?
@@bcw686 It probably will, but if the space/ inside is practical for the avg buyer, it doesn't matter that it will last longer since they'll go with a different vehicle.
@@ahastar1141 My neighbor has the Denali version, which is larger I know like the old suburban, and it is really nice. So much space
Overall like it but others have mentioned, what is going on with the third row / cargo area!? It appears to have no more room than our Mazda CX-9 which is a smaller SUV with a third row 🤔 that might detract a lot of buyers!
It’s cos it still has a solid rear axle
@@alwaysiyi272 last gen was independent rear tho
@@SimornM I know right. I don’t know why they switched it back but my guess is cos we don’t have the land cruiser anymore so they needed something to fill in the overland space that the land cruise left behind
@@alwaysiyi272 yeah I can see that since it’s an all global chassis or whatever…I mean, the first gen sequoia was also solid axle but that one looked like it had a more even third row/cargo area split (from what I’ve seen in person)
Wow, that piano black surface around the gear shifter and drive mode selector is already scratched pretty badly. Imagine what it will look like in a couple of years and for what likely cost you $50,000 plus.
Like anything... Depends on how people take care of it... Your point is epic fail 😂
Shit. 50k? More like probably $68k lol
@@NWI_Steel I said $50k PLUS. Since Andre reviewed a base model so I assume the price point would be obtainable. Could be wrong, but don't know because they didn't release pricing yet.
Last summer in 2021 i was told to wait for the new Sequoia as i was looking for a big suv, instead of waiting for it i went ahead and bought a brand new 2021 Land Cruiser best decision ever made, as i drove these vehicles overseas in some really harsh terrain and all we had in our fleet were Land Cruisers and Prados.
Have a 01 Sequoia w/ 212k still runs like a champ
i REALLY like the looks of it. the front end has way more presence
Looks like ass with that huge grille.
They need a bigger Highlander. Its a very small midsize suv.
I'm concerned about the switch to small displacement V6 engine, it never works out when trying to use it for actual truck stuff
It has already proven to be a unreliable engine. You would be better off buying a used sequoia with a V8.
Right. None had ever done that before. It will never work. Toyota is making a big mistake.
@@kahless0173 its no wonder TFL gave theirs away so early.
The second row is way too high. It's basically touching the hair. I'm sure there are enough room to make the floor 2 inches lower, but it appears the battery is making the floor too high.
Keep up the great work guys, love watching every single video you post!
Thank you so much!
The “SEQUOIA” rear badging is so gaudy…
The rear seats not folding into the floor is a deal breaker. Also, why do they put "off road" package on a 2wd. Silly.
Its not an offroad package, its a street/sport package. He says its actually a lower ride height toward the end of the video. TRD does not automatically mean offroad, although that has generally been that case for their trucks and SUV's the last 10 years or so.
no one cares
I have a 2005 sequoia limited and I love it
Every exterior line is perfect.. Love this design a LOT..
Doesn't the Z71 Tahoe have more ground clearance? It definitely seems much higher up than the Wagoneer.
Dude the sequoia is a dead man walking at this point. It’s already a massive fail and it’s not even out yet
@@illinoistiger8694 independent rear suspension, as opposed to the solid with the diff hanging down
@@naveenthemachine maybe so, 3rd gen is sitting on a Landcruiser platform. But again like I said Tahoe is a great alternative to a minivan which is what a lot of Americans are looking for over functionality
It will be a good seller but people love the Tahoe way more especially since it has a V8.
I doubt many people care if it has a V8 especially since a turbo V6 has way more torque.
Most people don’t even know what kind of engine they have, so I think they’ll fine 😂
V8s are great but a turbo V6 will do just fine. It also saves on gas.
Also V8s are overrated
@@peaceable263 In the long run every turbo V6 I have seen has had engine failure
I’m think my next rig will be one of these when they put the solid state batteries in.
the hybrid battery is underneath the third row so you really can't remove it. if you were to pull it out you would still have a large battery pack taken up cargo area.
I'll keep my Tahoe
One of the things I have always liked about Tahoe is the cockpit. the interior, even on an SR5 looks very commanding, very organized and quite comfortable. If money were no object I would have one of these just for going on vacation to tow my camper. Very nice rig!
Nothing is slaying the Tahoe!
The suburban 😂
The reliability of the new Tahoe is horrid
I own two first gen sequoia's. They're great vehicles but they drink gas. Never cared for the aesthetics of the gen 2 sequoias. These gen 3 models look pretty good to me. Hopefully gas mileage is improved because my Gen 1's only get 15-16 mpg.
I’m pretty sure they all drink gas. Our 2017 GX460 still gets 15 mpg combined.
Hybrid should add 10 more miles per gallon.
If u didnt hear him he said prob 19/20 mpg combined
@@johnnyc0811 I'm waiting for the official epa. He's guessing.
@@blackshirt5530 I have a 2014 Limited 5.4 with 97k that has been bulletproof except for a rear blend door (60 bucks and 20 min work) and a door lock actuator (ext warranty with 50 dollar deductible) Just replaced struts and ball joints at 95k since warranty is up at 100 and I was able to get them covered.
I want to see a full size van with 4x4 as standard. Like a Mitsubishi Delica.
I’m still just waiting to see how difficult it is to remove the rear seats all together
the hybrid battery is located below the third row so you'll still have a big bump in the floor even if you manage to get the seats out.
The Sequoia Hybrid makes 200lb.ft. more torque than the V8 in the Tahoe.
@@DestinysComputer But it's a V8 don't you get it?
IT IS A TOHOE KILLER GET OVER IT!
@@allentoyokawa9068 it’s just not, at all. They need to completely redesign the cargo space with the 3rd row up to even have a chance.
