I would very much like to meet the alleged "Customers" that Toyota "Surveyed" that told them they "didn't want" tow hooks on the Sequoia and Tundra.
Another Mike Sweers PR lie if I ever heard one
Dont need them in Japan .
Very upsetting that only comes in hybrid version
Bottom line is to avoid first and second year production of a new generation. They’ll realize the huge and stupid mistake of not adding tow hooks.
@@danz4928 Suppose they not expecting you to get stuck:)))))🤣
70k and no tow hooks???!!! Hilarious
The front end of the Sequoia should have been the front end of the Tundra as well.
Both hideous
Agreed
Best parking lot crawler
Putting "off road" on any vehicle that you don't put tow hooks on is an epic fail.
Honestly not having some method of towing on every single vehicle on the road is ridiculous.
Good point...
I love my 03 Sequoia with a 2” lift and 33” K02s! 250k miles and still trucking
And Tow hooks?

Watch out for your catalytic converters that’s one of the most targeted vehicles
The fact that there are no obvious recovery points on a vehicle that's supposedly on off road vehicle, makes me think off roading was an after thought for this redesign. Between the design decisions made for the Tundra and Sequoia, I'm a little concerned about the Tacoma and 4runner redesigns
Ill stick my 2016 tundra and 17 4runner 😆
Yea I can see that as well, it looks like they’re going for a more mass market approach to “off-roading”, I.e. body styling that makes non-wheelers think you off-road when you actually don’t. This thing looks like a giant brick, the clearance looks abysmal.
I agree, this is built more for dirt roads than real off-roading.
I wouldn't take a large vehicle like this even with recovery points off road. Small trails and length do not offer great opportunities
Confidence is 9/10ths of the law, so if you put tow hooks on the multi verse will cause you to get stuck. Meanwhile, vehicles without tow hooks get stuck far less often. It’s all in the confidence. Trust toyota. I mean, the Camry doesn’t have tow hooks either and it doesn’t get stuck nearly as often as Wranglers do despite them having recovery points. Some would argue that the better the recovery point the more likely you are to get stuck. Hence confidence is everything…
Wait until the next gen 4Runner doesn’t have tow hooks. I can’t wait to hear the reasoning
Andre sweating his life away to bring us this review..i appreciate that!! I absolutely love this new sequoia top to bottom. The wheels look great, they picked an excellent tire (i have these on my suburban and have been on every terrain besides rock and they have never let me down nor have i ever thought that they would), suspension looks really good, and im glad it has the twin turbo v6! I like this design on this suv better than the truck actually
All I wanted was the old Sequoia with latest tech (360 HD camera etc) and a 10spd transmission. My 2010 with 230k problem free miles has no problem going anywhere I take it.
You mean from gas station to the next gas station? 😀
Giant mall crawler!
Yeah……like you’re gonna take a $70k vehicle off-roading. Not happening.
Love your reviews, walk arounds and TFL talk.
Looking forward to a comparison with the Z71 Tahoe and Timberline Expedition.
Sequoia has a face that only a mother could love.
Even she can't look it in the eye
This thing is great!
Makes me want to go buy a last gen sequoia before you cant any more.
Best off-raider and doesn’t even come with tow hooks! 😳😂😂👏🏽good one
2:53 "What do you think about this orange, huh?"
I thought it was red!
If the approach/departure angles were better, or fenders designed better for replacing, then it would be a winner.
This looks like a minivan. The early 2000s sequias are legendary.
FOX really won that first gen Raptor suspension contract and since then has been constant dubs
That no tow hook thing still bugs me...
Think about this one
No more Snow plow for the Tundra sequoia or the yet to come Tacoma.

@@pjmtts why?
I would figure the ground clearance would have been more. The forester has 9.2.
Probably because solid rear axle
Solid rear axles can’t get much higher unless you run larger tires. Any solid axle truck on 33’s will have about the same clearance as this. I bet you would find something like a Ram Powerwagon has less clearance because if the size of the pumpkin, and no one is saying a Forester will outwheel a powerwagon 😂
Yeah but it’s ugly!
And your forester literally struggles up steep hills where any vehicle with 4lo will drive on by
@@Ww8.3 very true but for how much you’re paying for a the Toyota you would think they would have made it more “pro” at least 10-12 inches of ground clearance.
TRD Pro mall crawler.
Hope to see a Sequoia vs Tahoe vs Expedition episode!
No Torsen center diff is a deal breaker for me, that and the 5.7 were the 2nd gens best features.
They just needed 10 speed transmission in that drive train.
Yup, they want make cars as cheap as they can
I kept trying to convince my wife to trade her enclave in to get a new sequoia but after seeing the rear window no longer goes down that ruined it for me.
I totally forgot about rear window, that's blasphemy.
That’s what made the Sequoia stand out from any other SUV now it’s the same an boring. I was considering trading in my Silverado for a Tundra I just don’t like the rear end on the new Tundras
Same thought about possibly trading in my 4runner for the sequoia pro…not anymore. Plus it’ll be a while for aftermarket suspension upgrades to come to the sequoia
lol yeah, sure.
This more of an Overlanding Vehicle opposed to a “off roader”. Would absolutely love to buy this.
Yeah, more of an overlander than an offroader
Can’t wait to see the $10K-$15K dealer mark ups on these! Toyota…hold your dealers accountable.
That's capitalism.
buying a new car these days you might as well walk in ass first cause you're getting bent over anyways . imagine being able to afford the $40k or $50k car you always wanted only to see every car in your area with a significant mark up . what a buzz kill . economy rn will eat you alive .
@@plutodestroyer12 it’s incredibly annoying. All I can do is take notes and bring my money to the dealers who have been the most honorable through all of this
What’s worst if you work for Toyota you go to the back of the line when buying a new vehicle. Gotta wait around 6 months because dealerships don’t make any money off of you. Gotta sell those marked up vehicles first
@@djpak1 capitalism sucks 🤣
Its awesome they brought back the solid rear axle. This thing will kick the crap out of any other full size SUV in its class
I like the exterior styling of these new Sequoias over the outgoing generation but I’m not a fan of the interior. Give me buttons for things like my locker(s) up high where they won’t be pushed accidentally and give me a manual transfer case for 2Hi, 4Hi, and 4Low.
The front looks so much better than the Tundra.
I really don't like the sway bar location on the tundra or the sequoia.. I can see them getting bashed to S on a rocky section..
And that's why you'll have the 🌮 and the 4Ruuner for those tasks

Why do you write such silly questions in the title? The answer will obviously be no 😂
He doesn’t know yet. He’s an off road enthusiast
the canyonaero interior looks decent, and how long do you think those air shocks last on an off-road gm vehicle ?
I’d argue the Sasquatch Bronco or Xtreme Recon Jeep are the best factory off road package SUV
Agreed, this thing might be able to off road on a flat dirt trail with no rocks.
👏👏👏
I think that’s undeniable. But TFB considers them to be a separate segment from “SUV” (they are anyway)
I think he’s talking about full size SUVs. The bronco and Wrangler are a different class size than this. A more direct off road competitor for the sequoia would be the z71 Tahoe.

Looks like that CV joint boot was rubbing on the swaybar. Probably won’t last long.
I hope that Tundra users pick their front and rear plastic up when it gets ripped off.
Any idea if those Falken tires are the standard AT3W or if they are the "detuned" version Falken has been making for some brands as their OEM tires? I've heard disappointing results on the performance of those OEM tires.

I wish it still had the rolling down rear window..why did they get rid of that, why?
Probably a cost cutting effort.
The shape of the rear door does not allow it to move down anymore - too many curves. It does open but it does not slide down, it lifts up...
@@ALMX5DP This was a great future on 4Runner and Sequoia...at least they could have made it optional
You have a point..I can see that would be a challenge..too bad
There isn't a mall that thing can't crawl. The soccer moms will love it!
9" of ground clearance, no tow hooks and a horribly designed 3rd row. Hello Tahoe Z71.
lol they spent extra money on Fox shocks and skid plates and other crap, but give you the same clearance as a Subaru Outback (and less clearance than the Wilderness trim)
Tahoe and GM has literally inches of ground clearance. The IRS cradles hang clear to ground almost you can see them hanging way down its comical. Zero capability. Get real
That Tahoe will be worth $10k in 10 years if you're lucky. This thing will still be worth half of what you paid for it
Agree - the Tahoe looks better too.
@@timber543 Vehicle fanboys are the absolute worst. If you're going to call the Tahoe a piece of shit you better call the Sequoia one, too.
I hope Toyota keeps off readers in mind for their next gen 4Runner and Tacomas by not having the aerodynamics too low to the ground like they did with Tundra ant Sequoia.
They’ll manage to somehow make the new 4Runner with lower approach angle than a Camry.

Need the TRD lift package/35” tires to look really great imo
So my '02 Sequoia has both a front tow hook and roll down rear window. I'm pretty sure is has better clearance and approach and departure angles. Since I'm not carrying a 3rd row all the time, I have a true flat load floor all the way to the front seats. Also, it was less than $4000. I declare it superior.
Yea but do you have a 12 inch ipad to control the whole thing that will cost $4k to replace when it breaks? Checkmate.
This thing looks sick!
Looks awesome
15-20 years ago this would be considered a low rider.
Andre, you gotta turn up the A/C in sunny Texas!
Curious because I love the look. Could this run in AWD all the time? I saw a review on the Raptor as AWD all the time feature.
No. No full time AWD and that’s its biggest weakness.
How do you take out the back seats?
Thanks Andre 👍 for the honest review
Is this Sequoia TRD Pro going to be a unicorn vehicle like the 2022 model or are they actually going to make a good amount this time around? Also, I hate the center console (looks uncomfortable) will they be making a better replacement cover? Was there an ability to cover/hide the cargo contents with a Toyota cargo cover like the last model? In your next review of the sequoia could you please show us the key fob and the glove compartment?
Do you know the gear ratio for the new sequoia?
Soooo TFL do you do off road to just off road or do you actually go to sites to camp??
Our Texas air must be getting to Andre or perhaps the good BBQ. JK, love your reviews and walk through’s
I love everything about it, but no tow hooks is a deal breaker.
If you really like it that much then just add some tow hooks. seriously how often do you use tow hooks? I agree it needs some but if everything else is perfect…. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Lol
@@StubProductions very true. I just wish it came from the factory with them. I live up in the Idaho mountains and use front tow hook all the time pulling people out of the ditch or the snow. It’s something I would have to have.
Lots of options out for the tundra already
Personally, I like "the shiny components". Great looking SUV!
If Mitsubishi were to release the Montero Sport in the US it would sell like pancakes: 7 seater SUV, real 4x4 with rear locker and off-road modes, nice ground clearance, soft ride suspension and a price around 45k usd when fully equipped. I drive with mine from Mexico to Texas every year and it sure makes people wonder about it
The Ineos Grenadier will be able to put the smackdown on the toy.
Except the BMW engine
Excited to see these in person! Thanks for the great coverage
does it have a transmission cooler?
You may have to qualify "Best Factory Off-Road SUV?" with "available in the USA". The new 300 Series Landcruiser GR Sport available in Australia is a mighty vehicle (at a mighty price I might add)
Honestly I prefer the looks and interior of the Sequoia over the Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser has the reputation but it is expensive af.
I really like the looks of this new Sequoia. I had a 1st gen and loved it, but never bought a 2nd gen because of the looks alone. The deal breaker for me is not having a 4wd auto mode. Hopefully they will change that soon.
No need for a 4 auto, just adds unnecessary complexity. On slippery roads it’s all about the tires.
100% agree. I currently have a lexus gx460 with the torsen full time 4wd system like the 1st and 2nd gen sequoia’s, and it really is a fantastic setup.
@@smrtguy77777 Considering that Toyota has been running a full time 4wd system in the Sequoia, Lexus GX, Land Cruiser, Lexus LX, and 4Runner since the early 2000’s, I really dont think that is a concern. Anyone who has owned one of the vehicles with the system will tell you just how awesome it is.
if you are in variable conditions, like a day where there is patchy snow on the roads, i dont wanna shifting between 2wd and 4wd ever 150’. I love the torsen based full time mode in my GX.
@@Jay-me7gw I had a 2003 GX470 up until April of 2017. Loved it and a lot of that was due to the 4WD system. Sold it and bought a new 4Runner and hated it because it only had part time 4WD on the one I purchased. Sold it after a year because of that.

Now tow hooks 🪝 what a shame
Love your videos.
Two questions:
1. Given the Land Cruser is discontinued, which other Toyota SUV will be the new king of offroading?
2. Instead building luxury SUVs with offroad capabilities , why manufacturers build a true offroader with tech and some necessary luxury features? For example a Suzuki Samurai with Bronco Raptor power and suspension? Approach and departure angles above 30 degrees, 10" of clearance, etc, etc?
Luxury like Recaro A/C and heated seats but with marine grade floor finish?
Mercedes G class end of discussion. Full off road and full luxury. Triple locked, skid plates, 10+ inches clearance and luxury.
Ineos grenadier for utility or a base model defender

@@iMernerner But no one is selling true off-road capability for less. That's just the reality of the car market. Just being honest but... No company could sell a Samurai in 2022 in the US market for profit. It's why they didn't even try with the new Jimny. The cost to meet regulations is far too high these days to justify a very low volume vehicle in the US. Most people will just tack on 12 more months to their loan and get a Wrangler or Bronco.
My 08 sequoia will eat it for breakfast
What does it eat for lunch and dinner?
You gotta love those I Force V8
I understand that appearances especially when observing things on vide can be deceiving, but this generation looks shorter. Andre, is it smaller?
It is smaller, no V8?
its almost exactly the same size.
The hood/front end of it is massive. Looks like they made the cabin shorter to keep the overall size the same.
I wish they added KDSS on this model and the AHC from the Lexus LX to make it more special
I can’t wait until the ascent wilderness comes out!
Agreed! And Auto 4wd like all LC's have had since 1999.
It’s called overland aftermarket. I’m sure someone will come out with front and rear bumpers with tow hooks folks. I’m sure there will be a lift kit, and tailgate kitchens too.
Is this a “body on frame” suv? If it can go through the Miller Jeep Trail in Frazier Park CA like my TRD off road 4runner did in stock form then we can say it’s an off-road suv.
when the off road video is going to be uploaded here Andre?
Front looks way better than the Tundra. Gotta remove a car seat to get in 3rd row?
Yea piss poor design... smaller volume. Still the floor hump. Sad
In my 2010 sequoia I have 3 car seats in 3rd row and 2 in 2nd row. 2nd row is bench and the sliding seat is free to slide forward for 3rd row access. If the new Sequoia has an available 2nd row bench I imagine the same setup is possible

What’s the idea behind NO Tow hooks on a 4x4 vehicle? I mean, I would say it’s even dangerous to go off-road with no front recovery point…
Its Toyota’s new green car approach. Apparently their mileage sucks so bad even tow hooks are too big of a aero hit. Besides at $6+ a gallon for gas these dinosaurs are already on their way out and Toyota hasn’t even sold any yet😆
I am sure that most of the people who buy these cars brand new arent off-roading them in many capacities outside of going to a cabin. It's the 2nd and 3rd owners that are going to miss the tow hooks and most companies don't cater much to those owners.
