You should have used the Tahoe Z71 with the 6.2 V8..... Its 5.3 V8 liter is no match against Toyota's supercharged V6.
The comparison in the TRD Tundra and 6.2 Silverado showed similar results. Hybrid had smooth low end power that a naturally aspirated V8 can't match
Ok, so sad Duramax 6 cylinder isn't available on Z71 trim. Regarding offroad abilities (medium and heavy offroad use), the Toyota seems to be above Z71/AT4 GM twins and Ford Expedition Timberline.
Rear IRS arms on GM twins are way too exposed to damages very bad design.
About 2 yrs ago, we gave up on the big 3. This is not a good comparison because the tahoe has a pathetic 5.3L. And the way it was climbing that hill. It didn't look like it has the RPO code of G80... being a rear lsd/locker. Being a Z71 it probably does and didn't appear very well on camera..... I was hoping better interior for the Sequoia. The purpose of a large vehicle is for more comfortable seating options along with storage. I have a 120lb dog. And for him to have to jump that high above that stupid shelf system. And it's also further for him to jump down, especially when he gets old....overall great video....For those Toyota engineers... Make a Suburban size Sequoia.... you'll have more room for the batteries, and give us more cargo storage

I think the Tahoe is more practical for most families, but personally I like the Sequoia TRD.
Why would you buy one of these if it's not because you are gonna take some people with you? Chevy is superior. Plus you still see 20 year old Tahoes and Suburbans with 200k+ miles doing road trips cross country.
The Chevy or GMC are pussy asphalt SUV while the Sequoia is an ALL terrain reliable SUV. If you’re overly obese and abnormally tall yeah get the Tahoe or the Yukon, they’ll accommodate your vices other than that the Sequoia is a man made SUV ready for Armageddon.

The customer who wins is the one who has to service a 5.3 V8, and not a twin turbo hybrid V6.

Number 1: Chevy needs to have the locker standard on the z71
Number 2: they should have done the $2995 option to add the locker and air suspension at a minimum to have a closer like for like comparison.
Chevy was kneecapped before the test started.
This almost isn’t worth watching. They failed to mention that this Tahoe clearly doesn’t have the off road capability package, which includes an electronic limited slip differential that is excellent. TFLOffroad demonstrated this in several episodes, with the Tahoe and Yukon AT4.
The off road capability package also included air suspension. The air suspension is t just air suspension, it’s magneride, so adjustable and intelligent. It would have been a much better off road ride.
Tahoe/Suburban are great in the sand, I’ve had mine with the eLSD and air suspension in the sand a few times. These guys are biased as fuck.
Tahoe all day every day! I’d option it with the 6.2 and the G80. Then I’d go aftermarket with the fox shocks and get some 17s with bigger off-road tires. I love the way those trucks drive with the 10 speed and that v8. Plus you can always upgrade the engine with a cam, supercharger/turbo, or even just a tune and customize it any way you would like. Seems as if it would be hard to do that with the Toyota.
Fox doesn't offer anything for the Tahoe/Suburban so you're stuck with King (not that that's a bad thing, but they're having inventory issues it seems) and the G80 is dead. They replaced it with an electronic limited slip unit that's only available if you get the package with air suspension.
The compromises to the third row and storage behind the third row are due to the rear solid axle, more so I think than the battery pack. What you have here is a 4Runner for people who think that the 4Runner isn't big enough. That solid rear axle provides much better articulation than an independent rear suspension, and is more durable and reliable. This vehicle is for people who simply want the biggest truly off road capable SUV. It isn't the nicest full size SUV nor the cheapest. The competition sells because the biggest adventure for those buyers is the trip to Costco. It is funny to note that the last generation Sequoia actually had an independent rear suspension. The current Sequoia actually was never going to happen, and Toyota made a decision late in the development of the Tundra to morph an SUV out of that platform.

Team Tahoe here! We went for the Z71 package for when we want to take it off road and into some more technical areas for camping. We do have the magnetic ride and air suspension which is an upgrade that I'm glad we opted for. Its only been offroad twice and it was VERY mild, but I'm hoping we will really get to put it to the test when we go on our mountain trip this year.
The main use for our tahoe is for traveling and road trips and the interior of this thing is a dream! Its nice to know we have decent off road capabilities though should we need or want to use it for that.

Maybe cause you didn't show your entire attempt climbing the hill, but I think you could have made it up the hill with the Tahoe. Just got to remember it uses LSD so you need to allow proper tire spine before it engages.
The only reason to buy an suv is to carry more passengers. If it can’t do that it efficiently it becomes impractical. The sequoia is over $10,000 more expensive which would easily allow you to option up the Tahoe with the larger engine and off road capability package and have the sequoia beat in comfort and off road capability.

I understand there were supply chain issue but this comparison would have been more fair had the Tahoe been equipped with the 6.2 and off-road package which includes ELSD, air ride and magnetic ride dampers. Would have made a big difference in the Tahoe’s off-road capability and ride. Still undercuts the Sequoia by a few thousand dollars with those options.
yeah but its still a giant turd compared to the nimble sequioa and modern hybrid power train vs a knuckle dragging gas guzzler v8.

Toyota decided to phone in the Sequoia after developing the new Tundra and basically just put a third row and an enclosed cab on the Tundra. However, GM, Ford and Jeep all learned a couple of generations ago that customers demand more than that from their full-size SUV. They demand a unique interior, spacious and uncompromised seating and cargo area, an automatic AWD system and an independent rear suspension. All things the Sequoia lacks. The Sequoia's powertrain and off-road chops are very good though. However, if you do serious off-roading, you'd probably prefer something smaller and more maneuverable like a 4Runner or Tacoma.

Z71 owner here and very happy with it. Going to do some off road camping but nothing crazy. Happy with it at 72K vs 85K for Toyota

I’m sold on the Sequoia. It’ll fit my family perfect, don’t use the third row so it’ll stay flat for the dogs and what not. Like the Tahoe and stuff but I’ve always had negative experiences with GM and reliability.
Worrying about the complexity in the toyota hybrid powertrain is almost a non issue. Toyota hybrids are THE most reliable modern vehicles on the road. Insane power and reliability.
Yeah, when it comes to Toyota's hybrid power train that should be the least of your concern. They are essentially bulletproof at this point. Many people still drive 10+ year old Prius just fine. Only thing we have to wait and see is how this 3.4L twin turbo holds up after 10+ years, 87 Octane, and being pushed hard for extended periods of time. As well as to mention oil change frequency by its users. It is Toyota so I am sure they factored this. I don't doubt them either since its Toyota after all.

As a juror- Sequoia wins.
However, The TRD is known as work horse. The Z71 for me is for those who don't want to spend too much on the Premier. If I had to spend $80k on an SUV, it will stay on paved roads for the most part and the occasional snowy roads in urban areas.
I'll take the cheaper , spacious, comfy and beautiful Tahoe Z71 for the duration of its warranty. Thank you.
Hands down the Toyota Sequoia.
As a parent of a family of five, the cargo limitations as well as the less than adequate passenger space in the Sequoia would be a deal breaker for us. Granted the Sequoia is an attractive SUV with undeniable off-road capabilities, but it is just not the right SUV for a larger family. The Tahoe on the other hand offers more than enough cargo room , performance and comfort for road trips, ski weekends and the unavoidable weekly Costco run. Tahoe for the win.
They should have used the GMC Yukon AT4 with the 6.2L. I’m sure the Tahoe offers the same Z71 6.2L as well. But both Z71 Tahoe and TRD PRO Sequoia are great.
Sequoia still has more power than the 6.2 but I agree would have been better
I have the 6.2 in my 2024 Sierra AT4. It’s a monster, best (and most fun) engine I’ve ever owned.
I bought a 23 suburban after testing a 23 sequoia. The overall looks of the sequoia is great, but not very practical for everyday life and family with kids. Let alone the price. Sequoias crazy dealer mark ups and MSRP, and extremely limited space is a complete deal breaker.
So far I haven’t had any issues with the suburban, it has a been amazing to have the amount of space I have. It is pretty like having a truck but with the ability to carry more passengers.
You obviously didn’t do your due diligence. Have fun with that POS in the shop every-other week. Look forward to your transmission going out at 50k and it being worth 2k after 3 years. To buy ANY GM product over a Toyota is insanely stupid. GM is complete generic over-priced crap. Good luck to you and your bank account.

The Tahoe can be optioned with the eLSD . But requires getting the off road package which comes with air ride suspension , eLSD and the 6.2 .
2003 Sequoia limited,261k 16 mpg, 120 cubic feet cargo, 6500 k tow. No Payments, will drive it cross country no worries.A/C works, windows works, runs and smooth idle. Paid 9 k for it in 2016. I will drove it until a meteor hits it. Then, I will get another Sequoia.
My opinion. Power, looks, off-road. I would go with Sequoia.
If you want to take the family on a road trip with off road capabilites and ride in comfort. You go with the Chevy.
The Chevy will last longer. Toyota v6 turbos are trash.
I considered the Tahoe and Suburban before I bought my 2020 TRD Pro. What I really didn't like on the Chevy V8 was the POS Active Fuel Management (AFM) system that they use on the V8. That system causes nothing but problems especially when you get to higher mileage. Valves, valve guides etc are all different. Personally would not buy the redesigned Sequoia for lots of reasons.

For my family looked at the Tahoe, Expedition and Sequoia. Kept going back and forth since the Sequoia is so much nicer to drive, but definitely a bit more cramped in third row. Strangely my 14 year old 6 foot son thought the Sequoia with the bench style second row was the most comfortable. The Tahoe he had less leg room behind the driver myself at 6’4”. As well as the Tahoe driver’s seat did not go far enough down or steering wheel far enough out or up for my legs to be out of the way of the steering wheel. So I wound up buying the Sequoia, the Expedition was better driving than the Tahoe but overall my two kids and even my wife liked the Sequoia better.
And the V6 STILL OUTPERFORMS THE V8 🤣 I LOVE IT!!!!! Traded Mazda cx90 and payed rest cash on Sequoia TRD pro …… can’t say enough until you drive it we have 2 kids and have more than enough room. She is a BEAST!!!!!
Great review! Started researching these exact vehicles last year but ultimately purchased a Tahoe because it was available at the time. I much prefer the styling and performance features of the Sequoia but have been super happy with the Tahoe after 12k miles and more than a few family road trips. If hauling people, dogs, and stuff is important to you, the Tahoe is a great fit with plenty of power and excitement.

Which one has a 2nd row bench that I can put 3 car seats in and still have the seat flip up for 3rd row access? The Expedition.
You didn’t even get a Tahoe with a 6.2L V8 or a diesel. Kind of hard to compare them when you don’t have similar engines, at least in output.
They compared what they had, but they did mention how the powertrain might have affected things.

I recently bought a 2024 Tahoe RST (didn’t have a Z71 available). I traded in my 2022 4Runner for it. I really like the Sequoia, but the Tahoe is bigger and I prefer the naturally aspirated V8. I think it’s more than capable to get families to their camping site and more. Less than 1% of sequoia owners are climbing steep hills or rock climbing with it. You’re paying the “Toyota tax” too on it. I’ve owned 2 5th gen 4Runners so I like Toyota, but I won’t pretend they are gods in auto manufacturing. They used to do powertrains really well - jury is still out on the new hybrid setups in their trucks and SUVs.
Got the TRD pro Sequoua it kills the Tahoe hands down 🤣

I'd be curious how the Expedition Timberline and Wagoneer compare. I agree the Tahoe should have ACC at that price, and I would've assumed a Z71 came with a rear locker. The Sequoia seems overpriced, but everything does these days. I haven't been in one, but I've been in a couple of new Tundras, and was disappointed by how cheap the interior felt and how harsh the ride was compared to my Ram.
wagoneer series II ,has a advanced off-road package trail rated 18" tires 2 speed transfer case but no dealers order it , or ones with the hd trailer tow im looking at nissian armada 4x4 a low spec model for towing and car camping / overland adventure rig
@@youtubecarspottersguide1I've had a Nissan Armada and a Jeep Wagoneer. The Armada is great for towing, it's RWD and has torque for days. The Jeep is a series III with quadratrac II. Surprisingly good offroad despite it's size. I got two wheels off the ground and it just kept on moving like nothing
Toyota made the same mistake with the Highlander which forced them to build the Grand Highlander. Seems like Toyota will need a Grand Sequoia in the coming years to compete with the Tahoe.
The Sequioia with the old v8 which was dropped due to ESG scam, would have been a winner.

I’m a Toyota guy, but it would be hard to imagine a twin turbo hybrid being as reliable and durable as a standard v8 in the long run. There are reasons old suburbans cost more than newer tech bmws, and that’s because the upkeep cost of a complicated engine surpasses the value of the vehicle a lot quicker than with simpler designs.
active fuel management issues, lifters failing causing new engines, transmissions failing short of 80k miles, electrical issues on the gm trucks. I don't know what reliable means to you, but that ain't it. Bmws are actually more reliable than these and you can bet even the Toyota TT motor is as well

The least powerful engine option and no e-lsd feels like this was intentionally slanted in favor of the Sequoia.

Had a Chevy and multiple issues . Check engine light on and off . Shaking really bad while accelerating . You will be in cruise control and it would shake for a few secs and go away. Check engine will stay on for a few days and then turn off . With only 70k miles for a 2016 . Switch it up to a Toyota and really happy for that.

I'm tired of manufacturers adding the electric motor output with the ICE output to get total output. You can't get to that number because the motors don't provide any assistance under full throttle when the ICE is revving out.

I drive a 2nd generation Sequoia. I understand you were using the Z71 you already had but for a more valid comparison you should have compared the Tahoe with 6.2L and adaptive air suspension for a more valid/closer comparison as the TRD has everything you can get on one and your Tahoe lacks some features. It will be more interesting next year when the Z71 is equipped with the LZ0 diesel and all that low end torque plus all the updates to the suspension and steering and the tech inside. I think it will blow the sequoia away in most categories. Where you lost me is when you said the Toyota is more refined on the road - WHAT? Sequoia with its solid rear end now just simply sucks in terms of ride comfort as compared to the 2nd generation and has a jittery pickup truck ride (great for towing though), and very,noisy. Again, you need to ride Tahoe 71 with adaptive air suspension. I do agree that the Sequoia third row seat and cargo space is just a total disaster……. They try to pass it off as flexible cargo configuration and I have to wonder how much the marketing people were laughing when they came up with that term….and I have driven a Toyota for over 25 years and love the overall brand but I think the Sequoia was a swing and miss (and I wanted a new one so badly). I haven’t had a GM for over 40 years and will be eagerly waiting to test the 2025 Z71 with LZO option.
I love Toyota, I own a Sienna ( looking to trade it😂), but South East Toyota is price gouging all their vehicles. I would definitely get a Tahoe over the Sequoia, just based off the price difference. Chevy's engine (V8) are also tried and true, vs the hybrid V6 which is brand new!
Hybrid is by no means new to Toyota, the pioneers of the Hybrid. Note a 15%-20% fuel savings over Tahoe and see which ends more efficiently; lastly if you don't spec Toyota, price won't be this significant.
As much as I love Toyota's I don't get the sequoia especially in trd-pro guise hence I'll go with the Chevy Tahoe Z71!

Just got my 2024 Tahoe RST a couple weeks ago. Big upgrade from the Pacifica for this family of 5 lol. Absolute beast of an SUV though! Unbelievable how comfortable and quiet it is on the highway.
Nothing beats an American full sized suv. They’ve been doing it so long…way more practical.
I feel like the Tahoe could've made the uphill. I get it, the point is the Toyota's better, but still. The Tahoe got a raw deal here. The video ultimately feels like an ad for Toyota's hybrid powertrain, and it isn’t that big a deal. Ford already has a twin-turbo V6. It was only a matter of time before someone tried a hybrid, and it was probably going to be Toyota. It's probably perfectly serviceable. Really didn't need a test to confirm. Probably doesn't save enough gas to be worth it, but will serve owners well. Make your choice. It's a full-size SUV either way.
Lets add the Expedition Timberline to this compare
sequoia is the new goat in this segment. A proper landcruiser 300 replacement if you can't splurge on a Lexus LX 600
It’s obvious the Sequoia is better but the only thing is the actual price you have to pay for it with the Toyota dealership markup probably 7-15k over MSRP after this video

Was initially going to buy a 2023 Sequia TRD Pro but the rear cargo setup made me go with a 2023 Suburban 5.3L RST. I should have followed my heart and stuck with Toyota as the Suburban has been a nightmare and I haven't even hit 1000 miles. The entire driver side paint has failed, it appears an issue with the clearcoat. GM is pointing the finger at the dealership and the dealership is pointing the finger at GM. No one wants to take responsibility for the issue. Needless to say, once I get out of it, I am going to purchase a 2024 Sequoia. I have had nothing but horrible luck with American automobiles. Don't get me started with Dodge/Chrysler. Junk. I have owned countless Toyotas, not one has ever given me an issue!

@@Natethegreat200c my Jeeps engine threw a rod with less than 3,000 miles on it and my other Chrysler product had paint failure with less than 500 miles on it.
so if we understand correctly you're prone to paint failure . kind of first time i hear about paint failure, let say twice in 2 véhicule . good luck with the next one !
One bonus in the tahoe is that the wireless charging pad is cooled, so your phone doesn't get hot.
4:20 are my eyes deceiving me? That looks like a single panel sunroof. I thought the new Sequoias had dual panel moonroofs 🤯
I think single panel is for additional bracing.
I think the #1 thing that people buy these big SUVs for is passenger space and cargo space. Yet the new Sequoia failed in this area. I can’t believe Toyota chose this design. Independent rear suspension, longer wheelbase, longer body, non-hybrid iForce MAX 6 cyl, would have enabled them to build in competitive passenger and cargo space. At least they’re still still selling a few of them. Some XL SUV buyers don’t need the third row or a ton of cargo room, and instead buy them because they need to tow something big and don’t want a trailer or just simply prefer the way Full size SUVs drive (like me).
New tires vs almost gone tires.
The Ford Timberline is a better option when compared to the TRD Sequoia off road. The Sequoia is a let down on a few items such as cargo room and height of rear floor. The driving experience overall was good but just not as impressive as the Timberline.
The Toyota had more squeaks and rattle in the interior.
The Tundra has a massive recall because of engine failures. So I'd probably go with the Tahoe.
They didn’t mention that Toyota isn’t even capable to carry a large family. It wasn’t designed for that as other large SUV were. Toyota is a good SUV overall , but for single individual or a couple travelling together, nothing more.
The Seqouia is packaged so badly “and just not full size” as said, that’s by far inexcusable in this class. Evidenced now…that “just get a Grand Highlander, it’s much bigger”. Strange design choices.
Umm even the small Toyota highlander has almost the same cargo space (84 highlander 86 sequoia)

Holding out for the 2024 Land Cruiser, but this makes me wish the LC came with a V6 instead of the V4 they’re planning.
Tahoe has Auto 4WD not just Part-time 4WD, Gotta have Auto 4WD that's just my preference as a daily driver.
I think Toyota has to do Non-Hybrid Sequoia which makes it more affordable and more practical.Maybe not would be punchier as Hybrid model

Toyo looks good, but it's about $15K more than the Tahoe. And the most important area of a big suv (utility) the toyo misses big time
I think you were too careful in Sequoia on uneven terrain by keeping it straight and were rushing Tahoe and also sharp turning it. That seems unfair.
What a BS comparison. The Tahoe does offer a locking rear and also has more powerful engine which would have completely turned around this review. Sounds like they wanted the Toyota to be better in the first place.
I couldn’t find a locking diff option on the Chevy website, only an available electronic limited slip. And they did mention the powertrain situation.
So the “locking diff” is an elsd that can provide intelligent power distribution using a hydraulic actuator to engage the clutches. It doesn’t truly lock, but it provides probably the best on road experience and a pretty well rounded off road experience as well.
@@kirbygoodwin5760 it may have made the difference here for sure, though I did see both rear wheels turning on this video so perhaps it still would have struggled compared to a standard locking diff. It’s probably the better option though for most customers and their use cases. I think locking diffs are really for more dedicated off-roaders which neither of these really are intended to be.
The problem is you have to option it lsd Electronic differential It doesn't come standard I'm pretty sure the Tahoe on the Video does not have it They got cheap lol
Get the 6.2 z71 Tahoe with air suspension and locking diff. Not a fair comparison.

The lack of space for legs and storage in the toyo make it a big loser for families. Seems it was made to be gutted and turned into a broverlander.

Buddy, the Chevy has no lockers, so you have to get up speed on the hill climb, not slow.
