It takes spectacularly bad taste to buy a car like this
sequoia gets comfier when it’s fully loaded. because of how heavy it tows, the suspension is significantly stiffer to take on the the heavy weight. so when it’s under pressure is where it really settles in and becomes comfy. also the TRD PRO has stiffer side walls and off-road tires generally make a car feel slightly stiffer. if you are looking for comfort you should probably try the limited or platinum with no more than 20” wheels. it’s the way to go. also, the trd pros need at least 3000 miles till the suspension gets run in and gives you its max comfort
Air suspension of the Capstone trim gives one the best of all worlds.
toyota's trucks do have the same bouncy ride problem
While I think the new Sequoia does many things well it lacks things for the price. I am referring to the Capstone trim level. The seats are too stiff, I felt like I was sitting on bleachers. The lack of a folding flat 3rd row is unacceptable when everyone else can do it. The hood is flimsy and flexes when you drive in a decent wind.
Very sharp vehicle, I was let down when I actually saw it and drove it over 150 miles.
Great choice with the new Sequoia. Congratulations!!!
I love this sequoia. I wanted to get one, but it was too expensive for me, so I got a 2024 honda pilot black edition instead, and the honda pilot is perfect as well.
I would hope I would NEVER judge someone someone else’s life decisions unless it directly and massively affected mine and even then I’d try to look at the situation through the lens of their responsibilities. Luckily as I edge closer to eight decades of life, I don’t think I’ve been in a situation where I felt offended enough to do that. You do what works for you and just allow me the privilege of watching your automotive journeys. I have watch Mr DeMuro since he was a pretty small creator and (I know it’s odd) feel proud of what he has accomplished for himself and his family. We all strive for those things and ideals that we hold in higher regards and what suits our lives. I wish all the very best of health, happiness and prosperity to you all and your families!
I'm surprised he didn't consider the Lexus GX. It's essentially a Toyota, three rows, arguably looks better, has a better interior, and not too far off in size to the last gen full-size Land Cruiser Doug just sold. I also suspect it will retain more of its value than a Sequoia over time as well.
yup, the GX or the new Land Cruiser would be better imo, but I guess he did not want to wait for them...
He mentioned on a previous video he didn't want to wait.
Also the Overland off-road trim doesn’t come with the 3rd row.
The GX is much smaller. If you get in them and get into a LC or Sequoia there a real difference
The new GX doesn't offer any of its off-road hardware (MTS, crawl, etc) with three-row seating. I needed both three rows AND as much off-road capability as I could get, so the GX was eliminated. Bad product planning decision from Lexus.
(After driving the new GX I'm especially confident in my decision -- the third row is tiny and frankly the ride quality isn't much better than the Sequoia's.)
Best thing about Doug getting into off-road SUVs is his reviews will hopefully start pushing even more towards these. I expect one day he’ll go from calling things tough because they are red to explaining the actual specs and design behind them and the R&D that went into making them so robust.
Then again, Doug’s the type of guy to sell a product based on its quirks then its quality. 😂
You’re not wrong about the Nissan Armada remark, in fact you’re dead on. I bought a brand new Toyota Sequoia back in 2004, and my neighbors immediately went out and bought a brand new Armada because of me 😂
Nah for real, my grandparents had a Sequoia and after they sold it my aunt got an Armada 😅
Damn, Doug. I started watching you when you had the CTS-V wagon because at the time I really wanted my dad to get one- it’s been a long journey. Love to see it
CTS-V Wagon? It basically more like a slight upgraded variant of CTS-V.
simpler times 🥲
Man buys a vehicle, doesn't give it the highest score possible or even close to the top. Man is a legend.
I think you made a great choice. I'm biased to the expedition because I own one and because I'm cheap but I understand if you wanted more self driving. For me at 62k for the max AWD this was the best bang for my buck. Although I do miss my 2013 dodge charger adaptive cruise control 😅
You should’ve considered the Grand Highlander. It’s not as capable at off roading, however you have more room for people inside.
Toyota is one of the best brand options on the American market. Reliable, stylish, capable, and they hold their value well compared to others. Can’t ask for much more.
stylish? you need to see an eye doctor
@@computercrack style is subjective. I’d argue most agree with my statement, however, I can’t read minds. Some people agree and some may disagree. Regardless, everything else I stated remains true.
And boring as hell
Well... considering all their vehicles are moving to turbo everything, I wouldn't be so sure about the reliability...
You forgot about the new 2024 Lexus gx
Doug entering the fatherhood stage of his life, CONGRATULATIONS!
He's been a dad for a while now
Doug bought the ultimate dad car, this is basically a disguised minivan
You made a great choice ! I wanted one so bad but ultimately settled on a new Suburban high Country Deluxe last year. We had the similar requirements but we also tow a rv and wanted range while towing and the duramax delivered that on top of that we are a large family of 8 and frankly need the long wheel base.
In 2025 we will finally be able to get a z71 with the duramax.
Might be a better option for both of us then. Super cruise air ride suspension over 700 miles of range is fantastic
Family of 6. We had a sequoia for 6 years. It was a huge tank. Reliable and dependable. So roomy inside. The drivers seat needed to lower as my head was in the ceiling. Hope they fixed that. The storage space in the trunk wasn’t good. If you are going across the country you will need a roof rack or tow hitch box. Sold it for a new Sienna minivan. While it doesn’t off road or tow, it beats the sequoia in every other way. 3 times the gas mileage. 5 times the storage space. Smoother, quieter. Easier to live with with sliding doors and easier to park. Our other vehicle is a model x. Shockingly it is a perfect road trip car for 6. Tons of storage for soft bags. Great tech. Best self driving. Amazing windshield and oh it has 1000hp and goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. But no it alas is not an off road vehicle.
Same kind of thing in my family of 5 but with teenagers, 5 vehicles (including a fullsize Nissan Van for road trips) and everyone would rather pile in the Model Y... really does say a lot when I pull up at a supercharger and the car that shows up next to me has 6/7 people pile out of it while 5 pile out of mine.
@@jermwertythe audio system is amazing. The screen in the back of our x looks and sounds great for the kids streaming Disney plus. It is very quiet. Also the new fsd powered by ai is night and day difference. Our car drives us everywhere now. Safer as it is like a second set of eyes. Oh and the fact that is it one of the safest cars ever built. Really impressive. Makes it hard to buy other cars.

@@Kevin-fn1rnI am guessing the car specifically, it has very little quirks relatively speaking.
He’s teased this type of car in the podcast and videos before. He once mentioned he had a hybrid truck SUV ordered so it basically had to be a Land Cruiser, GX, or Sequoia knowing that. Since it seems third row space matters, idk why a Toyota SUV though since their third rows aren’t good

I love the interior. I love that more manufacturers are getting a bit more creative with interiors. The camouflage trim on the outside is a bit odd though
I drove a 23 Tundra for a couple weeks last year and absolutely loved it. That Toyota 14" infotainment was a treat to use, worked very well for me. Loved the torque of the powertrain, especially on the highway. Was clearly much more refined than my 2013 Tundra. I prefer the V8 for regular driving and the space of the last gen Tundra/Sequoia but the newer features were very nice. It's a damn shame they left the roll down rear window off the Sequoia. These SUVs look killer when you add the Wescott Designs leveling kit and some bigger tires/wheels. Toyota rarely wows with standard features and point by point reviews, because they just don't care about them. They're giving you a product that is comparable with it's peers that is going to cost less to own and be reliable. Never the sexiest choice but often the right choice...
My wife has the exact same ride just a 2023. We absolutely love ours, quirks and all!
2023 Sequoia TRD PRO is as good as 2024 one.
I love your wife too 🥰
I own the 22' Tundra TRD Pro and absolutely love it. Have around 20k miles on it and no problems with it so far. Couple things I would recommend doing. 1. Turning off the fake v8 sound that is pumped through the audio 2. Replace the stock tires with 35s. The stock tires are "fake" Falken Wildpeaks. They'll only last 15 to 20k miles.
Do you need to add leveling kit to fit 35”s?
By fake do you mean imitation Falken Wildpeaks? I have real Falken Wildpeaks on my Tacoma and they’re the best offroad tires I’ve had. Better than KO2s for durability and longevity for sure.
I’m at 40k on my wildpeaks on my ‘22 tundra and they’re due for a change. They’re not bald by any means though.
@@MS-mr4zm I was able to fit 35s without a leveling kit and no rub. The Pro has a 1.1 inch factory lift, so not sure about the other trims
Why do you turn off the fake v8 sound?
As someone who is close to Doug’s age (albeit a few years older) and who has watched Doug since his early Ferrari 360 (and Jalopnik) days, this appeals to me on a practical level. Hey Doug, when you go to drive these cars, where are you taking them? just driving on random roads for 30 min or what? Very curious. I heard you in another video say you had been driving the car for about an hour and im wondering where youre going in that time.
I like the camo design on the fenders and half the time you hardly ever notice it on the road whenever you see a Sequoia TRD Pro.
Love it. I grew up with an ‘03, however the trunk space with the third row up is abysmal. A Grand Highlander or many other mid size SUV’s offer more space. Come on Toyota!

Having better room makes sense as the grand highlander is unibody
@@showoe3126 Correct. But this is a massive vehicle in length and it should be better
Or sienna
Doug if u wanted to buy the car cause u liked it its ok to say that. your a stand up guy and you work hard for it and u well deserve it. U don't gotta explain your self ya true fans won't judge ya... we luv you and your vids...
I think the new Sequoia is an awesome car.. and I love the Camo touches on this TRD Pro.. I'd love one if I could afford it.. Lol. Congrats.
I knew Doug was going to buy the Sequoia. I just pray he doesn't sell it after 2 years like the defender and also hope he does lots of off-road videos with it. It'd be cool to see him do it like he never did in the defender 110.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
He writes his vehicles off anyway
They're great vehicles I've been to the factory in San Antonio. A lot of hard working Texans made sure your purchase is high quality.
Kids? 👏👏👏finally, congrats brother.
If you want reliability, Toyota is the way to go.
As someone who has the new Lincoln Navigator but has had the previous generation Toyota Sequoia, I can tell you that you've made the right decision. It just the first 6 months of ownership I've had the Lincoln Navigator in the shop four different times to replace transmission, re differential, torque converter, power steering wheel tilt motor, and a few other things. It's not reliable and I hate the fact that I stepped away from the Toyota / Lexus family of reliability.
Dang! You should lawyer up and file a lemon lawsuit.
This isn't a Doug car, he'll be selling it on CARS AND BIDS later this year.
Waited years for my new Sequoia. Don’t love it. The Navigator was more comfortable, better drive, better space, better stereo, better gas mileage. That space in the back is a terrible design. Many of us are trading in for something else. Maybe you’ll enjoy. They “look” nice but that’s it…IMHO😊
I agree! But I needed real, actual off-road capabilities and sadly the Navigator ain't it.
Apples and oranges…
@@DougDeMuro You could have bought a used one if "many" of the owners are trading them in.
They are still so expensive even used, so I really doubt your claim, they are still in high demand seems like
Navigator is not a competitor of sequoia, compare it to lexus lx600 and the lexus is more comfortable than the navigator.
As a first gen sequoia owner i love it.
319k miles and counting
Whaaat. I love the accents! Like a forged carbon fiber camo look. It’s COOL
My wife has the Grand Cherokee L has about 22k miles on it now with no issues. Its lease so wasn’t too worried about reliability lol. That being said for what you are doing and need it for I think I’d like the Toyota also. That thing is a tank!
I don't know how Stellantis does it but you either get a car that'll last forever or one that gets cranky when it hasn't seen a mechanic for more than a few months.
@@kamX-rz4uylol right they definitely have a bad reputation but so do most brands outside of Toyota and Honda. I’ve had a couple Jeeps, Rams, and dodges and have been good meanwhile I had a new Silverado a few years back and needed major engine work after just 3000 miles!
Pentastar is relatively reliable, your Grand Cherokee will have many issues in 100,000 miles of driving, facts
@@paulm6481 lol probably, that’s why I lease at least for my wife’s vehicles.
Doug, the type of guy to drive back and forth across the country every year when we have airplanes ✈️.
You are on wrong channel bro :D go to flight radar fans
I would honestly prefer to drive. I am more of journey vs destination guy through.
He spends months at a time in Nantucket, he needs a car out there.
After serving in the military and jumping out of planes, I will always choose to drive over flying.
I don’t blame him I’ve been driving trucks cross country a few years now and it never gets old.
I saw a black one the other day. The camo wheel arches actually look good on the black color, looks more subtle
My wife bought a new Jeek Grand Cherokee last year and we are on our 5th Recall. These recalls aren't small either. These are things that will kill you - things like: Suspension system coming off at highway speeds, steering control arms coming off at highway speeds. Stuff like that. It's a nice car, but we've had nothing but issues with it. We traded in our 17 Grand Cherokee Overland for this and we had no issues out of the 17 at all.
