      Dragging mom, dad, wife and little kids into an off-roading adventure is very Griswold-esque, to say nothing of driving his family from San Diego to New England and back once a year.
      Usually being a dad to very little kids means you don't have time to offroad like you used to, but Doug hasn't come to that realization yet. The burden of parking this beast in small spots, and getting kids in and out of doors that swing outwards will take a toll within a matter of minutes. He will be buying a minivan within several months - mark my words.

    I just bought a white Tacoma and have owned more Toyotas than anything else over the years and Toyota has never failed me. We traded in our 2008 Highlander with almost 300K miles for the Tacoma because we're at a later change in life. Our son is an adult and our daughter is driving her own car, we really don't need a third row... or even the second much, but we like hauling kayaks and stuff. As life goes, your needs change and I think you made the right choice for this stage in life. When it comes to reliability, Toyota remains the best choice.

      You left off the very next sentence, literally the very next words, which are "I have a new daily driver coming." That's this car. I specifically mentioned it's coming. In fact, I had already bought it when I recorded that video, which is why I mentioned it.

    @splkzyy 10 месяцев назад +64

    sequoia gets comfier when it’s fully loaded. because of how heavy it tows, the suspension is significantly stiffer to take on the the heavy weight. so when it’s under pressure is where it really settles in and becomes comfy. also the TRD PRO has stiffer side walls and off-road tires generally make a car feel slightly stiffer. if you are looking for comfort you should probably try the limited or platinum with no more than 20” wheels. it’s the way to go. also, the trd pros need at least 3000 miles till the suspension gets run in and gives you its max comfort

      While I think the new Sequoia does many things well it lacks things for the price. I am referring to the Capstone trim level. The seats are too stiff, I felt like I was sitting on bleachers. The lack of a folding flat 3rd row is unacceptable when everyone else can do it. The hood is flimsy and flexes when you drive in a decent wind.
      Very sharp vehicle, I was let down when I actually saw it and drove it over 150 miles.

    I'm surprised he didn't consider the Lexus GX. It's essentially a Toyota, three rows, arguably looks better, has a better interior, and not too far off in size to the last gen full-size Land Cruiser Doug just sold. I also suspect it will retain more of its value than a Sequoia over time as well.

      The new GX doesn't offer any of its off-road hardware (MTS, crawl, etc) with three-row seating. I needed both three rows AND as much off-road capability as I could get, so the GX was eliminated. Bad product planning decision from Lexus.
      (After driving the new GX I'm especially confident in my decision -- the third row is tiny and frankly the ride quality isn't much better than the Sequoia's.)

    This is my first time owning a full sized SUV and after driving the ‘24 Sequoia Platinum for the past six weeks,here are my observations. First the seats are firmer compared to the Expedition Limited and Infinity QX80. Gas Mileage 13-15MPG City 18-23MPG Hwy. it is more fuel efficient to use “Normal” mode when driving on city streets with stop and go traffic. Full tank on a road trip is approximately 450miles. The drive is very comfortable.
    There’s seems to be an issue with the power liftgate. If you opened the rear hatch and not made sure it was completely shut, you will have the error tone when using the liftgate. Indoor cabin is very quiet, ventilated and heated seats are very comfortable. The vehicle does not have the Toyota “Digital Key”but the Toyota App for remote start and lock/unlock works. I am unsure why it was not available. For charging your phones, this comes with both USB A and USB C ports. It doesn’t have the traditional “cigarette adapter”.

    Waited years for my new Sequoia. Don’t love it. The Navigator was more comfortable, better drive, better space, better stereo, better gas mileage. That space in the back is a terrible design. Many of us are trading in for something else. Maybe you’ll enjoy. They “look” nice but that’s it…IMHO😊

    Family of 6. We had a sequoia for 6 years. It was a huge tank. Reliable and dependable. So roomy inside. The drivers seat needed to lower as my head was in the ceiling. Hope they fixed that. The storage space in the trunk wasn’t good. If you are going across the country you will need a roof rack or tow hitch box. Sold it for a new Sienna minivan. While it doesn’t off road or tow, it beats the sequoia in every other way. 3 times the gas mileage. 5 times the storage space. Smoother, quieter. Easier to live with with sliding doors and easier to park. Our other vehicle is a model x. Shockingly it is a perfect road trip car for 6. Tons of storage for soft bags. Great tech. Best self driving. Amazing windshield and oh it has 1000hp and goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. But no it alas is not an off road vehicle.

      Same kind of thing in my family of 5 but with teenagers, 5 vehicles (including a fullsize Nissan Van for road trips) and everyone would rather pile in the Model Y... really does say a lot when I pull up at a supercharger and the car that shows up next to me has 6/7 people pile out of it while 5 pile out of mine.

Also the new fsd powered by ai is night and day difference. Our car drives us everywhere now. Safer as it is like a second set of eyes. Oh and the fact that is it one of the safest cars ever built. Really impressive. Makes it hard to buy other cars.

    Best thing about Doug getting into off-road SUVs is his reviews will hopefully start pushing even more towards these. I expect one day he’ll go from calling things tough because they are red to explaining the actual specs and design behind them and the R&D that went into making them so robust.
    Then again, Doug’s the type of guy to sell a product based on its quirks then its quality. 😂

      @@welmoepics That's either a big cap or a big red flag. Let's say he is driving fast, at max that's gonna cut an hour, maybe two. Still leaving 20 hours non-stop driving? That is at least extremely dangerous. I drove several times 8-12 hours and I definitely wasn't fit to go further safely. He claims going double the distance in one ride. Oklahoma is a big state. Google says 18h 51m to my stopping point, but keep in mind you're working with time zones when you're going west. So you pick up and hour and you go a bit above the speed limit; I think I did it in about 17.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 10 месяцев назад

      His logic is sound and he explains it in the video. Instead of taking two cars because his Mercedes-Benz can't fit four adults and two kids in car seats, take one car with a usable third row. It has modest off-road ability for when he goes to Nantucket. It's solidly built and reasonably reliable. This car serves the purpose of four aging used cars. A used one wouldn't have saved him much money so he got a new one with a full warranty.

    I wonder if he realizes the impact or influence he has in the car community. I've known ppl to actually look for Doug's reviews for his opinions on a vehicle b4 buying. Even manufacturers follow him for honest opinions on their line-up & to see what they can improve upon.
