Actually, according to the EPA, it gets 22 mpg combined, which is much better than the old V8. And I don't care what Sam got. I'd trust the EPA and manufacturer's testing more. All of my vehicles have gotten very similar to the EPA ratings.

Had the defender, complete garbage. Bought new, Electric problems within the first year, sunroof broke, loud rattle from pillar even after fixed, halo went out on headlight at 15,000 miles. Got rid of it after the halo going out. Now own the trd pro sequoia and I have been more than happy with it.

That was so bizarre to me too. The initial races with the Defender had the Sequoia’s power appearing to fall off a cliff. But it performed as expected with the driver change.
I think the Yukon Denali and the Sequoia TRD Pro are the two best full size SUVs in the market. You can't get better than that. (not considering luxury ones like Escalade)

Nice comparison! I looks like a matter of the shift down speed. Usually defender’s ZF 8 speed is the best in class but could be a unique setting for defender character. But the engine sound… what a lovely sound defender is!
Worst technology was cylinder deactivation, put an afm disabler in the gm and keep all 8 running all the time and save your engine, your fuel mileage wont suffer much. I had a 2010 silverado with the 6.2 vortec that ran all 8 all the time and it averaged 12l/100km. Afm is all problems, wipe cam lobes and take out lifters like crazy.

My daughter has the Hybrid Sequoia Limited and she said she gets 21mpg religiously. And it looked and sounded like you guys let off the Sequoia near the end of each race to make it look like the Defender kept it close.
Toyota Sequoia's initial launch seems much better than othe two SUVs. But all these 3 are heavy off-roaders. so it would be better to put these 3 vehicles hard off road terrain and compare the off roading capability 😉
All hail the good ol' pushrod LS/LT V8 motor from GM. Forget about the rest - this is a pure NA V8 with none of those overrated gimmicks and us definitely less mechanically worrisome in the long run, proving to be more durable with the longevity of these 6.2L and 5.3L V8 engines. Rides better, better fuel economy and more comfortable overall.
I’d take the Yukon for reliability and looks. The sequoia is ok, but the TRD Pro just looks stupid to me. The Limited and Capstone are slightly better, but nowhere near as classy as the Tahoe and far more complex drivetrain. The Defender is a charactercher of itself and has legendary Land Rover “reliability” lol.
Owned a sequoia and traded it back in. The vehicle is great but the cargo room is garbage. The hybrid battey is under the 3rd row so you cant lay the seats flat pretty much making all that space useless

You might have something wrong with the Denali. I was in market for big SUV and I drove as many as I could. I did like the Sequoia TRD Pro but it didn’t sound good and cargo space was amazingly compromised. I ended up getting Tahoe High Country and it was well above the Sequoia in luxury and performance. The 4 exhaust pipes and sound of 6.2l V8 is so much sweeter than the Toyota. Nothing sounds like GM 6.2l V8!
Launching in 4wd high and turning the traction control and stability control off provides the best results in the gm trucks. TCS and Stabilitrak on makes them sluggish in the first couple of gears.

There are some trade-offs, now the Sequoia is actually decently quick and is tunable because of the turbo.
