    Great pattern! First time a cup doesnt look weird in my size. I was a little confused on how it works too tho, so i figured id describe where my block in understanding was and how it fell into place for me, to maybe help some who are also confused:
    So you have your rectangle finished, measures in width and lenght the same. For me that was at 34 chained and 26 rows. You now go into the side of your rectangle and hdc down your rows, in the same amount, so for me it was 26hdc.
    Now you turn your work, work this row back plus the row on top, where you started down the side. So for me 26hdc + 34hdc = 60hdc overall. This will become THE BOTTOM of you cup. So the triangular shape you see on top, where the strap gets attached, thats basically the rest of the rectangle you worked before. The 26hdc-row goes on the outside of your breast, the 34hdc-row wraps to the middle of your chest and the triangular shape of the original rectangle goes on top. So you add as many (for me) 60hdc rows until it covers you underboob, then you can add decorative stuff on the sides, or more rows for more coverage or whatever. Hope this helps some people!

    Great tutorial! One question though. When you've made the square and start adding the bottom part of the cup, you do 1 hdc in each row. But doesn't that mean that you end up with a square with 21 hdc on one side and only 14 on the other? Won't that look wonky? Or am I worrying over nothing and you can't actually tell on the finished piece?

    • @joanade7848
      @joanade7848 2 месяца назад

      The row side in which you hdc into forms the outside of the cup, whilst the top part of the row wraps around to your chest. If you want more coverage on the outside, you can add some rows up to the part where the strap gets attached, but my chest fits in just fine without it looking wonky. I struggled with the pattern the last two days too, i posted a comment where I describe the construction, how i figured it out and how it works for me, maybe that will help too.

    • @MadeleineShirley

    hi iabsolutly love the way this bralette looks and ive been woring on the cup but i ffel like i keep missig an important part of how you make the cup. The whole timme are you just working on 2 sides of it and not touchig the other sides?

    • @MadeleineShirley
      @MadeleineShirley  2 года назад +3

      Thank you and yes exactly! Once you have the initial square, you work along one more side and then turn at the end, working back along the two sides only. This is what increases the height of the cup. Hope that helps, just ask if anything else is confusing x

    I dont undertsand where to stitch along. I wish you had pulled the camera back so we could see the whole piece because you dont verbalize it well at all. I made my first square, 20 rows like yours, then you say follow along the side. So i do. 20 rows. You end up with a piece thats shaped and i end up with two flat squares. So i try going along the side+ the top row that was just finished. Now its too cupped and square. I have no idea where i need to crochet if neither of those are the right answer. Ive replayed the vid so many times and im just not clueing in :/

    • @MadeleineShirley
      @MadeleineShirley  3 года назад +5

      @@prisg6280 Oh interesting! My first thought is maybe about tension, maybe crocheting tighter at one end than the other? Or maybe the end stitch on each row is being missed, although you have said you checked the number of stitches so that's unlikely. How about doing a small rectangle using the same technique (say just 20 stitches across each time) and see if you can get it to go straight when it is shorter? Then it might help you know if you are changing tensions when you are working on a longer piece or work out what is happening. I hope that helps a bit, it is tricky to think about what is happening without seeing it, but at least we can talk like this! Let me know how it goes x

    My girlfriend wears a G cup and I want to make her one of these, do you think this pattern will still work?

    • @EmL-kg5gn
      @EmL-kg5gn Год назад +1

      That’s so sweet of you!!! I haven’t made this and I’m only a beginner at crochet, but I’m her size too and based on my experiences wearing different tops and bras I think you’d need to make a lot of adjustments to make this work if you want it to be a bralette. Otherwise she’d need to wear a bra underneath, which would still be nice, it would be a really cute top! Firstly, the pattern for the cups is the best crochet pattern I’ve seen (a lot of them aren’t curved enough). However, you’d probably need to adjust the types of stitches you use. Most crochet stretches quite a bit, which wouldn’t be good for support, so you’d need to find stitches that don’t really stretch and use them for the whole project. Also the straps are too thin, they’d probably dig in a lot and be quite painful. Lastly I worry that the band closure would get stretched out and not provide enough support. The band is ideally what provides most of the support, not the shoulder straps. I think that the thin ties and the way they’re woven in is just too prone to stretching. I’m not sure what the solution would be, but if you want to make one for her I think you’d need to combine elements from a few different patterns! Or another possibility is to add a fabric lining, I’ve seen people do that with crochet bags so they can carry more weight? You’d still need thicker straps and a more secure closure but you wouldn’t have to worry about the crochet stretching! And it would also allow you to add in a typical bra closure. However that means you’re basically sewing a bralette for a bigger bust, which isn’t easy either. So you’d have to do some research to make sure the lining is well constructed! I hope something here helps :)

    • @MadeleineShirley

    Hi again! Thank you very much for answering my last question. I'm having issues with creating the bra cup. When you say making them the same height and length do you mean making the same number of rows as stitches? As in for 21 hdc down the row I make 21 rows?

    • @MadeleineShirley
      @MadeleineShirley  3 года назад +5

      Hi again Julia! No problem at all and sorry I'm a bit slower responding this time 🙂 So I did this as a square by actual size (rather than number of rows). I did 20 chains to start and then needed 14 rows to get the same length, so if you do this by actual length too and your chain and row values aren't the same don't worry - it still looks right when you're done! If you decided to do the same number (21 hdc to start then 21 rows as you say) that will just give you more room for the upper part of the cup. It would also be wider around the lower part as you would then have more stitches to work around, so that might work as an adjustment for you! Hope that helps and anything else just ask x

Is there anything I should adjust to make sure my gauge still works?

    • @MadeleineShirley
      @MadeleineShirley  Год назад

      Hey glad you like it! If you're using a lighter weight yarn, I would simply increase the number of rows for the cup/ band and maybe do a thicker strap (sc row rather than chains perhaps) to give them more strength 💚
