I'm literally sitting in my family's 2002 suburban right now while typing this. Got 362k miles right now and is still running pretty well. I've never noticed anything off while driving it and it's one of my favorite cars to drive
@@Josh-xj3fm lol well about that...the engine started not doing so well at 376k, and it started not getting good oil pressure and started burning a lot of oil, not to mention it had oil leaks EVERYWHERE, so I'm actually replacing the engine. New one has 120k, got it from Marketplace, was a project engine that didn't pan out. Kinda mad I couldn't hit 400k lol. In terms of how often and what was done, I can't say for most of its life honestly because I was 6 when we got that Suburban and I'm 23 now, sooo...but I do know my dad sometimes let the oil go for a while (like 10k) and occasionally put heavier oil in because he thought it would help it last longer (Idk what he used, like 10W-30/50 or something like that). Not sure if that really did anything good or bad, but something to note. Normally I think it was about every 5k. When I started getting into cars a few years ago I religiously changed the oil about every 4k. Honestly that was pretty much it. In terms of what oil, again I can't say for most of its life, but it was all done at a mechanic so I'm assuming it was good. When I started doing them I used only Mobil-1 5W-30, exactly what it calls for. Obviously my dad and I love the truck or we wouldn't be replacing the engine, highly recommended if you're in the market. Maybe this new one will hit 400k!

In Jan 2015 I bought my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 6.0 Vortec with over 363k miles for $2,600. It needed a lot of little things & only a few major, most of which I fixed myself. 4 years later I now have over 425k miles. Been a great truck and sure beat having car payments again.
I had an 04 Tahoe z71 with 120,000 miles and it went into "reduced power mode" and me and all my mechanics could not fix it and could not figure it out. we came to the conclusion that it needed a new computer that was over 1300$ just to hope it fixes the problem. I loved the Tahoe but could not fix that problem so I had to let it go and will never buy another 04 gm product
My brother in-law got a new truck and literally gave me his 2004 Yukon XL 5.3. He said it wasn't worth anything anyway since it had 240k miles. LOL. Thing runs and drives like a brand new truck. These trucks are beasts. The 5.3 is bullet proof.
Just picked up an 05 Suburban Z71 4x4 350K miles and the transmission was rebuilt less than a year ago. I'm happy with it. Will keep it forever. Update: was so pleased with the 05, I purchased an 07 Yukon 4x4 and it also runs and drives great. The Suburban is my overland vehicle, Yukon just pavement princess at the moment.
Owned a 2001 2500 suburban. Bought it the day after 9/11. I had over 305,000 miles on it and traded it in. Truly one of the best trucks. Had the 6.0 V8 engine all original. To this day I still miss it.
It's very hard to beat the Suburbans, Yukons, Tahoes, and full size GM pickups for reliability of those good old pushrod V8's. That 2001 he has is in great shape for as many miles as are on it. If it were down here in Texas it wouldn't be rusty but the clearcoat would likely be really tired instead. Another great thing, and i imagine this isn't unique to Texas, is that these are EVERYWHERE so replacement parts are easy to find if you're looking for something gently used.
Love those burbs! I have a 2000 Silverado I bought new. 364k on it and still on the original 4.8 and transmission. She's been a work truck all her life!
There is a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban LS with ONLY 11,600 ORIGINAL MILES for sale in Ontario, California & this is a 1 owner car but that car was NOT garage kept, it had been sitting out side & had been rarely driven
My tahoe is almost paid for and I was looking at trading for a jeep since a few of the kids are getting older and I changed my mind. I did have a computer inside the tranny go out at 78k which cost me 1200 dollars, but I decided to keep it, they're just useful to have.
Just got this video in my suggestions. I have a `00 Chevy Tahoe. 220,000+ miles. Body, frame and interior is mint. After purchase 3 years ago I immediately had a reman 5.3 engine installed and never looked back. Biggest headache was replacing the dreaded heater core. Now closing in on 300k a fresh paint job and she'll be looking good as new.
Working on many, and owning a 2004 Z71 with 225k, I find those with VINs that start with a 3 are noticeably more susceptible to problems than those with a 1. A GM engineer I talked to at the Daytona 500 years ago said Mexican blocks have less nickel and suffer from casting integrity issues. I haven't researched that, but I find Mexican made have more oil blowby issues. They are still amazing, the fact that this is the longest running nameplate in history is a good indicator. It's not just Suburbans...any full frame, full size V8 GM vehicle is one of the most financially sound investments a consumer will ever make. The only thing better would be 3/4 ton Duramax 'Burbs but I doubt they can make a business plan for that. Considering some cost near 70k with a gas engine, diesel would likely be too expensive. Bravo GM for making card like these that people can rely on day in and day out.
That's very interesting. I always check carcomplaints .com before buying a used vehicle. 2004 was a "clunker" year, it sounds like there was a bad batch of trucks that got produced. Ironically 2006 seemed to be on one of the most reliable years ever produced before the body style change
-- Just bought a 2004 Tahoe 5.3 loaded, Z71, for something to get around my/my boss' farms. We're not farmers, but we two WWII aircraft around. Cost 7k. 144 thousand miles. I was halfway home when decided this wasn't going to be a 'farm' truck' of any kind. Have two daughters, and my sister has 4. I'm keeping this thing nice. Seems 2002 to 2006 were very good years for these platforms of vehicles.
@@carsthatlast441 -- Ran into a couple issues. Seeing as you know a thing or two about these vehicles, maybe you could help. I start the car, and a female voice says phone unavailable. Turn it off and it keeps saying it all night. Also, the dome lights stay on 24/7 and no I don't have the dimmer dial maxed. If you could help, it'd spare me a trip to the dealer, or calling them so they can try to lock in a scam. Apparently these are common problems, with no clear solution online.
I use m suburban to haul my lawn care equip around. 21" Honda push mower, Stihl weed eater, stihl, stick edger and huge echo pb 8010 backpack blower. All 4 items fit in the back with no problem and alot safer than a pick up truck which anyone can just reach in the bed and steal your equipment when you're not around. Everything's air conditioned too, love my burban.
Nice interview. Both Burbans are great. I particularly love the 2001/2002 Suburbans. This ones in special are very odd and genuine. I just think they are the perfect form of the early 2000s. I own a 2002 Suburban. I bought it used with 175K and I brought everything to original and working (radio, speakers, replaced lights and electronic stuff) also added an upper-level rear ac control HVAC. Bought a push bar for the front and at the stock wheels, I have 305/65 R16 Nitto Terra Grappler. My wife and I use it every day as Daily Driver here in Broward Country FL were we live. We try to keep mint. We’ve already gone to Key West, Cape Canaveral, Daytona Beach and we are planning to go to California in 2020. I do everything on my own. It is unbelievable that with couple sockets and a Philips screwdriver you can perform services. Since I got it I’ve already replaced the Water Pump, Radiator, Fuel Pump besides the tune-up. I am pretty sure our car is ready to run another 200K with no issues. That’s my second one. I had a 2001 Yukon XL before that, unfortunately, was totaled in an accident.
Parts are so cheap and for specifics Body and upholstery parts, there are plenty of them in the Junkyards. Great to get an OEM. Another highlight is that you do not need only a burban. Yukon's and Escalades also works.
I had an 2001 Suburban I sold about 5 years ago, over 200k miles. Recently bought a 2010 Tahoe with 141,000 miles. When shopping around I looked at a 2006 Suburban with 80,000miles. My '01 is at 225k. Trans still shifts fine, has had regular fluid changes since I've owned it (2009 w/121k miles) using super tech dexron VI. Recently added a remote spin on filter setup (using a Derale 13005 filter head) for extra filtration. Repairs I've done over the years: fuel pump, front hubs, knock sensors, oil pan gasket, rear hatch and glass struts, suspension and steering (shocks, springs, idler arm, swaybar bushings/endlinks, etc), wheels/tires (20" 5 spokes from the gmt900), and brakes (upgraded front calipers/rotors to gmt900's). Along with all normal maintenance crap you'd do on any daily driver. A lot of that stuff I didn't "have" to do, but I wanted to keep it running nice. Like it better than my 2011 LTZ if I'm honest, and no rust because I live in south Texas.

I have a 2000 Chevy suburban 1500 LS 4x4 with the 5.3 current mileage is 304500. I have pulled 7000 lbs occasionally, lt has some rust in the rear lower pannels and the rockers. Repairs including the AC, starter, water pump, front wheel bearings and a widow regulator. Plus the routine maintenance. Recently the rear pinion assembly is going bad and is howling. I love this truck and decided to invest to keep for another 20 years. Installing a remanufactured rear axle assembly, springs shocks, CV, bushings and u joints. When the engine and transmission needs to be replaced l will do that with remanufactured components. Still much less expensive than a new truck. I do all the work myself witch saves a ton of money. Chevy trucks the right choice.

I have a 1998 Chevey Suburban rhat i have owned for 10 years. Besides replacing a head gasket pnce o have had no Major issues with it. I have almos 300 thousand miles on it. Great trucks.
Well, I can only agree with what is said here. I own 2 Suburban trucks myself and swear by them. One has 287k miles on it and in 2018 I have done 2 cross country trips through mountains, deserts, snow and ice, highway and off road accumulating over 6000 miles on each trip and there's not a thing wrong with it. However, I should point out that no matter what vehicle you have, what brand you swear by, every vehicle is only as good as it's owner and as this guy has mentioned, "Maintenance" is the key to have a vehicle last. I also think he is overstating the expenses on those trucks/SUVs because standard maintenance is a lot more than just oil change no matter what kind of vehicle you drive. An SUV like this is made of thousands of individual parts and each part has a certain lifetime after which it needs to be replaced. Vehicle problems come in and make a vehicle non reliable when that kind of maintenance schedule isn't followed, parts wear out and aren't replaced leading to other problems and creating a snowball effect, one issue leading to another until eventually the vehicle simply stops and then people get an attitude calling their cars or trucks "Piece of Sh*t" This guy here apparently followed the maintenance schedule and thus has a vehicle with this many miles on it and nothing wrong with it. Properly maintaining a vehicle (any vehicle) costs money and if one can't afford to maintain a vehicle, then he/she has no business owning it, period. I have a shop and make a living working with all sorts of vehicles that could be in top notch shape if their owners would only take care of them. But the general consensus seems to be that as long as you just change the oil, everything is okay. I wish people out there would actually bother to have a look at their owner's manuals and read through the maintenance schedule and stick to it. Would they do that, they would have a lot less vehicle problems than they do and their vehicles would be much more reliable

Those 6.0s last forever even if you beat on them, lol
MarkPdot sams here man my parents bought a high mileage 01 f150 and big boy still running strong!
Amen to that! Hell with car payments
I'm with you on staying away from monthly payments!
Thats awesome does it still run strong ?
Just bought a 05 tahoe with 235k. Runs like new. Love it
How much did you give for it if you dont mind me asking?
I had an 04 Tahoe z71 with 120,000 miles and it went into "reduced power mode" and me and all my mechanics could not fix it and could not figure it out. we came to the conclusion that it needed a new computer that was over 1300$ just to hope it fixes the problem. I loved the Tahoe but could not fix that problem so I had to let it go and will never buy another 04 gm product
saraco: Your Tahoe runs like new because the previous owner put $30,000 in repairs--so it is new!!!! Hahahahahhaha
@@pigslayer106 that's your throttle body sensor or pedal sensor
m uiz Most likely the ground at the back of the intake ! Not likely a computer find a new mechanic
I have 1999 Chevy suburban LT with the 5.7 V8 runs great and has 318000 miles and going strong no rust or dents still a Joy to drive very reliable
My brother in-law got a new truck and literally gave me his 2004 Yukon XL 5.3. He said it wasn't worth anything anyway since it had 240k miles. LOL. Thing runs and drives like a brand new truck. These trucks are beasts. The 5.3 is bullet proof.
Hilarious. You got one for free with 240k miles and the person that commented above you paid over $4200 for one with 260k miles.
My friend had a 1988 Suburban that made it to 411,000 miles before it finally locked up. We called it "The Tank"
jesus christ
Damn! It probably would've made it further that! I saw a video on RUclips of a guy who ran his 95 GMC Suburban to literally 990k miles!😳😳😳
Owned a 2001 2500 suburban. Bought it the day after 9/11.
I had over 305,000 miles on it and traded it in. Truly one of the best trucks. Had the 6.0 V8 engine all original. To this day I still miss it.
Bought 2007 tahoe, with 205k miles. I cant believe how good it rides.
Update on how that went?
Great video. i have 2009 Suburban LT with 266k miles still going strong
Still runs strong?
That's awesome! Great truck.
I’m so happy to see this video. I have a 2000 suburban LT with 89,000 miles on it. I got a loooong way to go.
I have a 2000 Suburban with 235,000. It still pulls my 27 foot camper. I service it meticulously. LOVE the Suburban.
My tahoe is almost paid for and I was looking at trading for a jeep since a few of the kids are getting older and I changed my mind. I did have a computer inside the tranny go out at 78k which cost me 1200 dollars, but I decided to keep it, they're just useful to have.
Can confirm, my ‘01 with the 5.3L Vortec has been brutalized for 200k miles, still runs like a champ.
My 1986 has 10k shy of a million miles. Original everything.
Yes, great vehicles from 2000 to 2006. Enjoy.
I just bought a 2005 Escalade esv with 83k miles on it, 10k, daily driver for me
@@carsthatlast441 -- Ran into a couple issues.
I was AMAZED when I started it up, no kidding, the engine sounded 100% perfect, like it just rolled off the assembly line.
Haha, I think every Suburban has the same basketball dent in the back driver’s side bumper.
Heyyyy! That's me!
Mine don't lol
Yeah my 2005 has the exact same dent! I thought it was an option in 05 LOL
@@terencemeehan8237 😂 same
Lol mines on the passenger side lol
Awesome!!! thanks for the info!!! I plan on buying a 2009 suburban this year 2019. Now i feel confident my nerves are truly calm down!!!
Yeah I was looking at the 2010 models, these trucks last FOREVER,WOW I'm really impressed...

@@jtcarter2967 Hi I know this comment is old 🤞you'll see this, what is a reliable source to figure out the reliability by year? I'm interested in a Tahoe 2010-2014, but each year has it's issues and I'm getting mixed info ex. Consumer Reports, JD, Nada etccc.. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Had a few and they were all comfy and reliable, safe haven for my family. We love them. I grow attached to my vehicles and they were hard to let go.
Have an 04 Tahoe Z71. Was my dream car as a kid and I love it to death. Runs great and had minor issues like a fuel pump replacement. 5.3L and I use only royal purple for oil changes.
I just got an 03 z71 a couple of weeks ago for 3k. All seats except driver's are in great condition. It was a truck I wanted in college too even though I had a custom 2000 4x4 Tahoe in HS. I wanted a z71 and now I have one. I'm loving it.
I just bought a 2011 chevy tahoe ls with 70k im sure it will make it to 200k miles.
My father had a 93 Chevrolet Cheyenne work truck that had over 400k miles on it. I helped him swap the transmission with a parts truck he bought at around 300k miles. The truck pulled heavy trailers its whole life. He still drove it occasionally up till he passed in 2013. It was the most reliable vehicle I have ever seen.
Older is better 👍..🇺🇲.. CLASSICS
I own a 93 chevy chenyenne work truck, was his the 4.3L V6 too? Mine has 148k miles my dad owned it for 10 years then I bought it from him
I like the guy that you recorded he is straight up and Chevy is such a good truck !!!!!!
2003 suburban Lt 1500 no ticks and or smoke 344k miles
Been driving K-Blazers (1976 and a 1989) and a 2001 Yukon now for over 40 years. Bought the 1989 K-Blazer and Yukon new. Put 275K miles on the Blazer before I needed to expand for a new family. 345K miles on the Yukon and I still run it. Same engine and tranny. Great trucks. I especially loved that 1989 K-Blazer. What a great truck. Wish I could get one now with modern guts.
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado z71 4.8L manual transmission with 237k miles and a 2003 GMC Denali Sport Utilit 6.0L with 262k miles both running great! Love my Chevy stick shift!
Man I bought a 1992 burb w 32k miles. I used that for everything, hauling kids, groceries, long trips to Reno, Vegas, LA, I'd take it cross country. But I feel you MUST use good quality oils, filters, plugs and delco parts. I put new valve stem seals, new distributor, new fuel pump and tuned it regularly. I had over 265k and traded in 2yrs ago we downsized. I would pass everything, except a gas station, hahaha!!!
... so true :)
Just bought a rust free north Texas '01 burban 1500 LOADED with new BF LT AT tires, Sunroof, DVD system, Autoride, Factory tow pkg, 3:73/G80 245K milles for $1400 !!! Just needed a $30 camshaft sensor, and wipers, fluids changed. Felt bad like stole it from the family I got it from :/
I have a suburban with 400k miles now ... 2014 model Z71 ... love it ... we just had to change the engine n trans after 400k miles ... so now its brand new again ... 1st brake pads change was after 200k miles and now just changed the brake pads now at 400k miles. ..
Dammmnn! 400k on a 14'?? Thats some serious driving! Lol
How much did u spend replacement of Engine
@Dj_itswoketimes engine and installation costed 6500 i believe ... now our second transmission is gone in 100k miles cuz it was rebuild... i'm hearing a lot of issues with the transmission more then the engine ... should've gone with a new transmission... these transmission have problems more then the engines ...
97 Two Door Tahoe 5.7 .. 350 ..Vortec 134K just broke in. Great truck go anywhere and still ride and drive like a Caddie wish I had two of em. Good job by Chevy.
Great video. I own a 2000 chevy suburban with 227k runs great! Very reliable! We've put over 110k on it with no issues. Had to replace minor things like battery and such, but they are good trucks
Over 313K on my Daily driver 96 Suburban LT. Outstanding Trucks!

Although the compressor in the back went out.
When I was 17 I bought a 03 suburban put 125k on it the frame rusted through then I bought a 01 Yukon put 50 k on and totaled it I’m 20 now just bought a 96 suburban with 175 on it love these trucks hopefully third times a charm
As long as previous owner took care of the fluids change and maintenance. You should be gtg.
I have a 2013 suburban and i love it. I bought it gm certified with 40k now sitting at 99k and plan on keeping it a looong time. Zero issues other than replacing the ORIGINAL battery when it quit cranking last year
Will last forever if maintained. There was a mid to late 90s k1500 that had over a million miles on it. He ran Pennzoil only and they actually bought him a brand new truck and took his old one to their research facility to disassemble and inspect to see how much wear it had.
I purchase a 1999 Chevy Suburban from the first owners in Rancho Cucamonga no rips or tears in the interior I have a hundred and ninety-nine thousand miles on it I drive it from South Central LA all the way to Apple Valley every weekend still running strong up the 10 freeway I drive it at 80 miles an hour but at 75 it also feels great
My '01 is at 225k.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that isnt afraid of high mileage lol... suburbans are nice but my 5.6 armada has been great @ 270k miles
I got one for 750 today ! :)) around 314k miles !!

I’ll be picking up a 02 Suburban from my brother in law in a few weeks. Over 100,000 miles and he maintains his vehicles very well. $3500 and it’s mine. I’ve only heard good things and I’m excited to pick up one.
My 99 had 327,000 and was running strong when I got rid of it. Only issues on them are fuel injectors if anything. Running techron kept them fine.
im still using my 03 suburban with 467,000 miles, with normal maintenance.
I have a 2001, 189000, fuel pump, alternator, need to fix the oil pick up tube gasket. And of course three batteries. Towed tons, 26 foot hornet TT, over weight car hauler with an f150 from Colorado to Texas plus dump trailer as well. She's been good to me. So I can agree. Oddly though have never changed the brakes. Probably should do some suspension work. Lol and I wouldn't buy mine iether if I knew what it has done all her life.
344k on a 4L60? That’s impressive! if you didn’t low RPM that thing around it’s whole life, you lucked out!

I just bought 2003 Tahoe with 5.3L Vortec and only 117k. This video makes me happy. U forgot to mention parts are dirt Cheap and easy to find.
GMC engineers these trucks for do everything longevity. Had a 1995 GMC Suburban. Comfortable, great for anything. Not too bad for fuel economy considering what it is. Rust protection could be better but I am sure that has changed.
My 2005 escalade esv with 123k needs a new front diff.(bearings are whining now) Trans is a little sketchy. I replace air shocks with coil overs, fluids, spark plugs/wires, oil press. gauge sensor, drive belts. Maintenance items. The 6.0 vortec is a beast. silky smooth use castrol synthetic. DIRTDIVER882 Most likely, you have the same one as me, the 4L60-E. That transmission is used across all GM 1/2 trucks and SUV both 2WD and 4WD. But they are all kinda of ways, look it up by the VIN, auto parts stores can also tell you, Wikipedia or better yet, ask Scotty Kilmer!

Chevy trucks the right choice.
my silver 02 suburban with just under 300000 miles still runs like a dream, I can’t drive any other truck like I can my suburban.
Just picked up a 2014 Yukon xl slt base model with 135,000 miles in excellent condition for 7k. Needs tires and a dash cover cap from dashskin that's it. Trans was rebuilt 30k miles ago. No tears or rips inside! Hoping for 250k+ miles! Would like an update on this content.

I didnt do a transmission service til 326k out of fear ill destroy but I did do filter and whatever came out at time of dropping pan and refilled only what came out about 5 quarts. Then drove around and and pumped out fluid from dip stick and refilled what came out. I've never did an actual flush but from what I did as far as filter change and then pumping out dipstick to get color more red(wasnt burnt just discolored after 326k) worked perfect. I have an '02 with 276+k miles and my maintenance guys always tell me NO SYNTHETIC OIL. They tell me the synthetics ate not made for older engines and to stick with the manufacturers suggested viscosity that is made for high mileage engines. Hard to believe his '01 has had synthetic for 8 years. But then again, it is a Suburban engine! I love mine!
Rust is a killer . I just got a 2002 with 280 xxx and it's got rusty rockers . I'm going to do a oil based rust proof on it
I have an 04 that I got with 300k+ miles over 2 years ago. Now it has 400k+. For the last two years it has been good. Lots of problems more recently but I really never expected it to last this long. Amazing trucks.
