I find it messed up how GM begged for a Government bailout, then abandoned the U.S. the second they got the chance.
@stoic they wanted to manufacture in China
@stoic They might be headquartered in the U.S. but they want to move ALL of their production out of the country to save a nickle.
Ford didn't need a bailout 😁
They sold Volvo and a few other assets then while GM showed up to the bailout hearing in a 180,000 private jet and stayed in 10,000 dollar a night hotel rooms, ford *drove* a fkn ford fiesta (for fuel economy) then stayed on a motel 8 for about 36 dollars a night... Scotty, I live in Cypress Texas and bought a 2003 Tahoe brand new. I have 251,000 miles on it and it is running strong. Change the fluids and do you maintenance and it will keep on going. They don't build them like that anymore!
You are correct I purchased my 2002 Tahoe 4x4 in 2001 and it just hit 200,000 miles last week with no problems just typical oil changes ,filter and fuel injection cleaning services..... it drives beautiful I just put $3,500.00 in all shocks, brakes, drums, suspension bushings back and rear, Michelin tires, and alignment. etc etc .. Nah I had a 2004 silverado, everything started failing by 2008-09, I did a good job maintaining it regardless, I sold the pos, didn't have the money to fix it, bought a Honda shortly after that, then switched to Ford, no problems with either.

@@elgayetas all the little things fell apart but I bet motor didn't die
I was a financial analyst that audit manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Mexico. The quality issue in Mexico is partly caused by the low pay, and high turn over. Many U.S. companies cluster their plants close together so there are plenty of jobs that pay just a little bit more than the other. This means they are constantly training new people with little to no experience to include the trainers. Any cost savings in labor/benefits can be lost in warranty claims, cost of high turn over, and reduced efficiency. Dollar for dollar just about everything else cost the same to build/run a plant in the U.S. or a plant just south of the U.S. Border.
Another part is corporate pressure to cut cost year over year also results in low quality components. That's how you get a GM product that has door/compartment hands that break with under 50,000 miles, poor quality of touch materials, and all the other issues that come standard in a GM vehicle.
For the record I was a die hard GM fan for about 20 years. I don't see myself buying newer GM vehicle again.
I truly love how justifiably pissed Scotty consistently is at GM.
Not justifiable. He conveniently leaves out a lot of facts. In this video, he cries about a newer vehicle only getting a little bit of an MPG gain. But he leaves out the fact that the new cars are heavier and larger than the older models, yet still gain some MPG's.
He also leaves out that my 01 Tahoe also has parts made in Mexico.
@@TheColonelSandersGuy Regardless of where the parts are made, they still have to pass stringent QC guidelines before they are installed in the vehicles. The main thing I am upset about with manufacturers offshoring the jobs, is that it takes away from American jobs. But I also understand that one of the main reasons these jobs were offshored was because of pay. When the Unions demand higher wages, for these people to do the same amount of work, they price themselves out of a lot of job positions, or have to pass those costs on to the consumers, which then lowers car sales, which then leads to less new cars being made, which leads to less hours worked and so on.

So your the plug on getting parts what’s your number lol I’m serious
I have an ‘05 Yukon with 260,000 kilometres and still going strong. Gas hog?..yes but as reliable as a toyota and cheap parts. New stuff is nice and rides even nicer but the quality of parts is lighter duty than youd expect in a big vehicle like this.
Those era Tahoes are solid. Only bad thing is the cheap interior.
What even is this statement. I've been in plenty of new luxary cars that feel lile crap and look lile crap inside. It's all the same crap to me, some just sprinkle a bunch of extra art deco crap and LED mood lighting to make morons like you think it's better quality. Quality should be based on durability, not a bunch of useless "pretty" garbage. I love my GM interior quality.
It’s the truth those interiors are cheaply made with hard plastic and the seats are almost always the first thing to go. But the drive train is more important. Every interior besides the Toyota tundra is significantly better than the 2020 1500 l and I have 2020 1500. There’s a reason why I got the Chevy Silverado instead of a Ram 1500.
And cheap paint. Always see them and the Silverado of that era with bubbled/peeling paint.
@@Marco-fi6gv eh. If you buy a chevy truck because you care about interiors or paint you're better off with a honda ridgeline.
@@herbienbrian2 I agree but you spend more on quality./. I prefer my garbage interior to look nice lmao
I looked into trading in my '02 Tahoe when gas prices skyrocketed around 2007-2008. Everyone had the same idea so dealerships were offering next to nothing for them and private buyers didn't want them. I bought a more fuel efficient vehicle and decided to keep the Tahoe. I'm glad I still have it.
The rear axle in my truck has never been touched in 19 years, nor has the transmission! Good old manual transmission. I got it with 29K miles on it in 2001.

GM did indeed make some great vehicles.
It is heartbreaking to see such a great company go downhill, knowing it doesn't have to be that way !
Money will eventually make every automaker crap
Greed is the root of all things bad!!
The government should never bail out any company, no matter how big the company is.
True that mate. Here in Australia GM took a massive amount of money from our government and still ended up shafting us. Holden WAS Australias own car for 70 years and the powers who be decided, hey, we can just import total crap from overseas and throw a Holden badge on them....think cruze, barina, insignia just to name a few and what do you know? 18 months later and no such company as Holden anymore. If they gave more Americans jobs I'd be cool with it.. but that didn't happen.. Mexico got those jobs
Who was President when GM got the bailout !!! There you go !
Same thing happened with Nissan After they stopped making them in Japan after Renault took over.
My 2012 Sentra is at 182,000 miles and runs like New..
It's true that many of the newer Nissans are far from the quality of the old Datsun. My 2008 Frontier has 213k miles and is still smooth, strong and very reliable. It seems that this is the case with the Xterras and Pathfinders as well- made in Smyrna, Tennessee!
True, I have a ‘99.5 Pathfinder. Last model year made in Japan. Fantastic vehicle, 300k miles and no mechanical problems. Not one. Just about everything is still factory, and I’ve owned it since new so I know for a fact it’s original.

My brother sent me the link to this video because this video reminded him of my '05 Tahoe. It just rolled over to 335,000 miles. We bought the truck with 24 miles, and I put 22 of those in it during the test drive. The ONLY repair we have ever made was the water pump. This truck had 297,000 miles on it before I replaced the front brake pads, and I only had to do it then because I overheated the brakes towing a trailer down a mountain (stupid, I know), warping the rotors ever so slightly. It had 320,000 on it when I replaced the rear brake pads. Everything is all original. I would still drive it across country, if I had to. This truck has been an absolute BEAST.
My 2003 suburban has 450,000 miles and still going. Motor and transmissions hasn’t ever been rebuilt. Only a water and fuel pump tires brakes and front wheel bearings that’s it!!!!

Father in law, a couple years ago purchased a new 2018 chevy duramax dually to pull a 18k 5th wheel. 20k miles later, on side of the road in Tampa FL.
Towed to local dealership, broken push rod, broken piston. Took 6 weeks, brand new motor. Keep in mind, father in law is 64 years old and drives the speed limit in right lane and takes cares of his vehicles, with documented spreadsheets of any maintenance he does to his vehicles.
So far this year, its been to dealer 3 times for various check engine lights, electronic issues .
He was done. Traded it for a 2020 Ford F-450 6.7 powerstroke.
He put in Schaeffer's SynShield Ultra 722 10w30 diesel oil and has traveled the US, not one single issue and said the Ford feels more solid, and abundance of power.
Go Ford.
The old GM in the 1990s were great.

My wife loves her 2003 Tahoe. In 2020 the truck still drives smooth as silk with 175,000 on it. The only repair on it since we've owned it was a leaking water pump gasket. Replaced it and the water pump since I had it off. End of problem. Good reliable transportation.
My 2003 tahoe z71 has 235k miles. Runs smooth. Just replaced shock, struts, and u joints. Smooth idle and cold AC.
I drove my boss's early 2000 Silverado today and I was impressed. The steering was really tight for something with 215,000 miles. He bought it 8 years ago with about 60,000 miles on it and all he had to do to it since then was replace an alternator, front wheel bearings, and front calipers. Nothing else. A/C still blows ice cold, Scotty would love that. Engine runs like a dream. Sure, it's tired and doesn't like to tow things anymore, but it seems like it's been a great work truck. Also he's never replaced the battery. I think he's going to have to soon. The starter doesn't turn as quickly as it should.
I've done that exact, "old man rant" about chevy trucks in my own driveway all by myself.
I never heard of a rear end going out unless it was due to abuse, like drag racing. GM has really achieved a new low.
Had a 2003 with the rear lock . It never gave me any trouble. My niefew bout it ( 1000 bucks) he liked it but blew the rear end. ??? He was sliding the rear end on a gravel road . I suspect he hit a patch of blacktop with one tire. I told him it wasn't the way to treat a possi before he bought it! Original everything with 270,000 + miles

Oh and ford didn't need the bailout either btw they did just fine without it
Then Obama couldn't get a new budget passed the entire time he was President, meaning we had a continuing resolution, meaning we paid for that bailout every year he was President. Where did all that money go? That's why we had a 21T deficit when he left office and only a $7T deficit when he took office. He was the worst.
Ford didn't need the bail out since they did take out a huge loan earlier that same year, so they did get bailed out, just not from the government.
Jonathan Ryan that was a good move. No reason for tax payers to get mad to Ford.
@@jonathanryan2915 Though Ford refinanced through banks a year prior to GM and Chrysler’s bankruptcies, though they didn’t need a bailout to keep them from sinking Ford did receive 10 billion dollars in grants to rebuild their factories in 2009’s stimulus plan.
Ford and Chevy reliability have both gone down. If you cant see that you're playing dumb
I was going to pull the trigger on a 2019 Tahoe premier. Glad I saw this first and saved my 60k
I would get a 2015 Escalade if I had 60k used, I know it’s older but in my opinion it’s a better deal.
Get a Toyota Tundra TRD if you ask me !!
Straight Tru firm agree, Toyota trucks have more american parts and manufacturing than any gm vehicle on the market. That and those Toyota v8s will run forever
I rented a new Tahoe with about 19k on it and I was disappointed in the quality. Rattles, shakes here and there and seat were badly designed for child seats and it had useless cup holders. MSRP was 58k as configured but I wouldn't even pay 40k for it as my Honda pilot cost less and was amazing in all of those things.
Eddie Baba cup holders 😂
Such a shame new Chevys are made elsewhere.... I came to America 7 years ago and I always considered Chevy as the pride of the US, a big heavy truck with a big engine. Sad that pride has gone down and now its all about money
I'm around a lot of die hard chevy people where I'm from and I don't care what they say the quality of general motors has indeed gone down.
Yup
GM quality is either lower than worm dirt or just plain nonexistent.
yes, my friend has a 2017 Malibu and the wiring harness keeps on going out. Only 20,000 miles on car. What worse the dealership cant get the part to completely repair
Ecotech engines still eat timing chains. Not belts; chains. And supposedly GM "redesigned" the chain and guides more than once!
When I was growing up, nearly everyone in my family drove a GM product. My dad and grandpas on both sides had Chevy trucks from the 70s. They had a good drivetrain but were rust buckets, they were know to start rusting before you could finish payments... The last Chevy truck my dad owned was a 77, and he sold it after replacing the bed, doors and floorboard. In 1990, he went to Ford after that. All the Chevy/GM guys made fun of him driving a Ford, but thirty years later, where are all the diehard GM people now? Btw I bought a 2013 Camry and hopefully my next truck will be a Tundra or a Tacoma.
I bought an 03 Tahoe just the other day because of your previous tahoe video. So far so good.
Check out mine on my channel
Those older Tahoes are well-built indeed; *and it's apparent this Tahoe is loved because the owner isn't using it as their own personal DUMPSTER.* I'm impressed.🧐🤣
That’s why it’s still running. You can tell a lot about how a car was and is being treated by how it looks on the outside. So yes you can judge a car by its cover!
Yo I remember when I was in school i drove my parents 1997 Yukon 4 door.. solid drove like a tank!

I got one similar to yours. I got a 2002 GMC Yukon XL with about 260K on it and it's been solid. The only thing that sucks is that mine has the autoride suspension and I've had to replace that once already (replaced the compressor too because might as well while im down there)
I have the same one to with 294 thousand on it . I love my Tahoe. The only thing that's worn out on mine is the drivers seat . Other then that it's in perfect condition.

Just replaced the ac control for the second time and the blower motor for the first time.
340k in 3 years??

No, i bought the truck brand new in 2018. In April or May.
340k on a 3 year old truck. I hope you waited till it broke down to type this comment because you must just be using it for cannon ball runs
I had an 06 Tahoe as a work truck. It ran like a top. It was a leased vehicle that I had to turn in at 132k miles. Only thing that broke on it was the rear a/c piping, that was just pinched and capped off. Then I was given an 2010 Tahoe. It felt "cheap". Way more plastic used inside and out. The body moldings began to squeak after the first 20k miles. Others in our fleet had rear differentials that wore out faster than any previous model. Then I got a 2015 model with the auto, 2wd, 4wd and low 4wd modes. Yikes. Same thing with driveline issues, tranny replaced prior to 96k miles, then nearly replaced the replaced transmission at 126k miles. Company said "nope", "get rid of if". Other 2015 - 2018 Tahoe's in our fleet had tranny issues, rear diff and torque converter issues. Mind you these were "work" trucks. Work stops when a truck goes down for repairs for a few days, or weeks. Man, I miss that 06 Tahoe. It was 2wd, but it was a strong running truck. That's my 2 cents worth.
If you didn't go on unpaved roads often, 2wd would be all you need! They made them so SO much better back then.
2001 Silverado 5.3 497 986 km. Runs good, love it)
I’m pretty sure what you could by for $34,000 in 2002, would cost $53,000 in 2020. The dollar doesn’t go as far today.
Ssshhhhh let the fudd rant.
No, it would not.
"Calculate the value of $34,000 in 2002. What is $34,000 in 2002 worth in today's money? Adjusted for inflation, $34,000.00 in 2002 is equal to $49,446.04 in 2020. Annual inflation over this period was 2.10%."
Oh the Fed can just Print there way out of it , right ? TIME for the TREASURY to do THEIR JOB! Andrew Jackson showed the FED RES the door , AFTER BURNING IT TO THE GROUND!
@@walliehart5975 Really? What version of US history are you referring to? The fantasy version? Andrew Jackson died in 1845. The Federal Reserve was created in 1913. Tell me how he "showed the FED RES the door, after burning it to the ground." Perhaps you're confusing the Federal Reserve with the Second Bank of the Untied States - a totally different entity that acted as a repository for Federal funds and as the government's banking agent. Jackson did remove all of the United States funds from the bank in 1832, and the bank ceased operations after its charter expired in 1836. He hardly burned it to the ground, it expired because the charter was not renewed. But, that doesn't fit your sensational narrative does it?
GM is secretly abandoning the American market lol
It’s really no secret. They’ve been doing it since the 80s when Roger Smith was CEO. Flint Michigan is a mess because of this.

I got 4wd on my 05 Tahoe. I usually drive in 2wd high, but from time to time I like to engage it and drive around in 4wd just to get "the juices flowin". Things tend to break when they're not used. Love it.
It doesn’t matter where a part is made, if the specs are low that’s the problem
Keep your neighbors working.
People like to lay blame on the foreign parts manufacturers. It is the American companies that order those parts and accept those low standards that are to blame.
PCRB a valid point.
A failing company is one that doesn't make their parts in house.
@@extremedrivr there are tons of companies that don't make their own products. They are profitable. I'm not defending the practice. I'm just stating the fact of the matter.

It had a lot to do with the GM corporate culture which reeked with pomposity right down to the dealerships.
Short term savings earns big bonuses.
In the 60’s the government tried to break up GM. Unions wanted them to pay more in wages and benefit than their competitors. They had 60% of the market. They were always being berated for their size!

Your parents probably put bigger wheels on the truck bigger wheels usually have a larger contact patch and need more powerful brakes to slow them
Yeah the Tahoe breaks are prone to braking.

As a mexican, I can say most of the workers from US car manufacturers get payed 300-400 usd a month down here. Sure its cheap to build here but if you pay 300 a month of labor, you get 300 a month worth of quality. Not to mention the massive turn over.
Hello from Finland!
Just this tuesday I bought me a 5.3l 2002 Tahoe with 190 000 miles on it. Gonna use it as a daily driver. Looks awesome and drives smoothly.
Scotty, another thing to mention, those older models didn’t have GM’s AFM (Active Fuel Management) that switches from 8 to 4 cylinders depending on usage. Only later did they discover that all that switching from 8 to 4 cylinder mode caused issues with the rings and lifters causing massive amounts of oil consumption and lifter failure. GM killed the reliability and longevity of these models as a result.
Actually GM did in fact put the AFM system on some of their older model Cadillacs back around in the late 1970's and early 1980's. My cousin had a 1981 Cadillac Deville with a "4-6-8" setup on it and I've heard that particular configuration of Cadillac motors was so bad that people had to have that "feature" disabled by the mechanics in order for the cars to be driven. GM basically "yanked on the donkey's tail for a snickers bar a second time after seeing their buddy get kicked in the groin". Why would they revisit a design that was an abysmal failure 40 years ago? That makes no sense.
Tune in and watch Scotty speed through neighborhoods.
In the same spot everytime too lmfao! I’m waiting for one of those people to put up a “SLOW DOWN” sign
Rev up your radar guns!
Sadly, I will never buy a new GM product. As well as many other cars/trucks in this new era of garbage..
Been thinking about upgrading to a 2020 Silverado, but after watching Scotty I am staying with my 04 Z71. Thank you.
My 2000 Silverado Z71 has 430,000 miles OG engine and transmission. Id drive it cross country without a thought Best truck eva!! (oil changes every 7000 miles btw)

Scotty is right on as usual. My mom has a 2004 Tahoe and has over 230k miles. Even after towing cars, huge boats, trailers loaded with her crap from moving houses 5 different times (she's kind of a hoarder so it's WAY more than you think) even large campers and going all across the country! everything our family has thrown at it, the sheer abuse this poor Tahoe has seen it STILL runs like a champ (I've even gotten 22 mpg driving it real easy on the highway) still tows on the same engine/transmission/suspension. Hell if it was a 4x4 Ida bought it years ago. Contrast that with the new ones ( I worked at a GM dealer) the new one blows, they Always have electrical problems. The 8 and 10 speed transmissions shift hard and hesitate, hell even the AC struggles in the summer brand new. I hate them, absolute junk and filled with useless gizmos. Do yourself a favor and get an older Tahoe from the early 2000s, with all the money you save you can even have a fun sports car as well
22 doing 50mph at sea level maybe lol.
I have a 2015 Silverado 70k miles with a vibration at cruising speeds. annoys the hell outta me. we bought a Tahoe just like this 2002 4x4 same color. 219k miles, drives better than my 2015 truck.
I agree with you. I have a 2004 chevy Silverado , 4 weeks after buying it brand new the computer Brain went out, months later problems with air condition, readings on the dash displays started going out givng miss reading, front bumper started come loose, headliner started to sag. Had to replace the rack and pinion steering 3 years later. This is from just regular driving no heavy-duty work.
I love how Scotty dismembers our current globalized economic system indirectly. It's beyond rotten and people are being deceived.

In July 2020, I paid $2500.00 for a white 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 V8,1500 Extended Cab from the original owner. He definately took care of it. It has cloth seats, and power everything, and everything works. Paint is even good. 190,000 miles when I bought it. Now it's at 196700. I bought new tires, and probably another $500.00 on tags, inspection, taxes. It past inspection on it's first try. I own a 2018 RS Camaro, but I haven't driven it in months. My truck has become my main driver. Starts everytime. I love this truck.
I have 03 Suburban LT with the 5.3 just hit 222,000k best vehicle I ever owned. With the rear seats flipped up and the 3rd row out I can slide in a full sheet of plywood 8x4 fits right in, pull that out and flip the seats back and I can cart around a family in comfort. It’s very practical, it’s been paid off forever and its all original besides regular maintenance. I’m dreading having to replace this one day. Might just refurb it and keep it around forever!

$34,000 in 2002 is
$48,722 in 2020
Chevy's website has their 2020 Tahoe starting at $49,000
I was just going to say. $34,000 but he didn't account for inflation.
Glad that someone mentioned this...so really the price is still basically the same. However I'm sure the new ones will not last nearly as long as the old ones. I don't think Ford's reliability is much better nowadays but Scotty never mentions that very much-although I will agree Ford did not receive bailout money. We have newer model Fords where I work and there always having problems as well
If only wages and salaries kept up with inflation 😢
That inflation nonsense is just that, nonsense. Look at what a desktop or laptop computer, tv, or most other technology cost in 2002 and look at how much better and cheaper they are now. I payed $600 for my first Insignia 32" 720P HD TV in 2007 now you can get a 65" 4k Smart Samsung TV for less than that. Automakers are ripping people off period
I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw that lol
