America runs on GREED so the mechanics are getting greedy; exactly like the medical systems guarantee you cannot get decent care for a fair dollar. Actually, I get around this issue on big jobs like a bad transmission or a cylinder head job - I take the car to MEXICO and labor rates are 1/4 of what they charge here and, also, my mechanic in Mexico is well aware of all the tricks mechanics use in the USA like using time studies and doubling the price of parts for customers, etc.

The 08 was nicer with some more creature comforts but the only thing you'll find that's tougher than an 00-06 Chevy or GMC is gonna be a Toyota, Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, 4Runner etc. Maybe only marginally better but still better. Often, I have driven long distance in Mexico and some say their gas is not as good, but I don't erally experience anything different. Maybe an improved intake, but I'll discuss this with my mechanic. It currently has 192,000. Last week we took it on a 8 hr trip. It runs like a sewing machine & got 18mpg, which I was pleased with for what it is & the mileage. I have always used quality oil & filter. It doesn't leak a drop of anything & only uses half qt of oil in between changes. I don't like the VVT or the cylinder deactivation. If I am driving 60mph or less I always use manual mode & only let it go to 5th gear... this keeps it from continuously going from V8 to V4 to V8. With the high miles The valve train still doesn't have any clatter at all. Everything is factory original. Been a great vehicle for us !!!

I drive 2012 Tahoe. I am from Europe where these vehicles have a bad reputation. I love it. Bought it second hand, it was cheap, it is comfortable, everything fits in. Build in Arlington, Tx!
What I like about it is the simple technology and the huge support information you can find on youtube. Any problem? You will find a helpful video helping to fix it. I do maintenance myself (very easy), also small repairs and only take it into an independent mechanic (sorry Scotty) when something is that requires special tools or skills. I have 123 000 miles on it, 100 000 are from me. Only larger problem I had was wheel bearings and brake calipers.

I had an 07 LT Trim Tahoe 5 years ago and just bought an 07 LTZ Trim a day ago. Scotty I’ve still got the LT 3rd Row Seats original to the LT Tahoe if you’re interested. They’ve never been sat in and garage kept since I pulled them out of the LT Tahoe in 2019. They aren’t the leather the LTZ comes stock with but they are cloth in great shape. I’ll send pics if interested. If not, I understand. Great ride and happy to have come across mine a couple days ago as I knew I would own another Tahoe. This time I went LTZ Trim and no regrets!
I appreciate you and your channel! You’re honest$$$ and a great example many Mechanics should follow. Stay Safe my friend…

Got at 2009 Tahoe only 135K, runs like a dream as well, paid off feels even better. Fully loaded so I'm planning on keeping it until it dies.

Grab the Avy. It's actually bigger cab wise and it's a great stealth camper. Make sure your bed covers don't leak!

I love my 2010 Tahoe, but we recently have been having problems with it guzzling oil. It’s been leaking and we have to put a quart of oil in about once a month. Other than that, it’s a really great car, aside from the dashboard falling apart.

Try changing the driver side valve cover. These trucks have an oil consumption issue

    • @kpfalconi

Yup, the PCV valve is built into the valve cover and when it gets clogged it causes oil consumption. Just did it to ours.

There are fixes for less oil consumption.

My '06 Envoy Denali was losing oil, so I put in a modified driver's side valve cover. You can also just drill holes in the metal baffle inside the stock valve cover to prevent oil from sitting on the baffle and, then, getting sucked into the PVC system - this issue should have been solved by GM.

2 years later, but here is an update lol; it started misfiring and leaking more, and the interior is now falling apart. Long story short, we are trading it in for a new 4Runner :)

My dad's 2007 chevy duramax did the same thing. He ducktaped it with black tape and now it doesn't squeak 😅
