Amazon Firestick - How To Turn Off Sleep Mode - A Real Solution
Here is a solution to an annoyance when your Amazon Firestick apps stop and your device goes into sleep mode and you have to relaunch them.
NOTICE: A Firestick Update Hid "Developers Options". Here is how to get it back.
1. Select "FireStick Settings" (if you do not see it, navigate to the "settings" section of your Firestick. The newer Firestick menu will look different from the older ones)
2. Click "My Fire TV" (Or My Fire TV 4K if you have the newer Fire TV 4K)
3. Click "About"
4. Click on your Fire TV Stick quickly 7 times.
5. You will see a notification at the bottom saying "No need, you are already a developer." That’s it, you have enabled Developer Options.
6. Press the back button once or go back to Settings - My Fire TV and you will now see Developer Options
Now you can go into Developer Options and enable Apps from Unknown Sources to sideload APKs on your FireStick device.

I've been so frustrated by my Firesticks kicking back to the home screen after leaving it paused for a bit on a show. I was hesitant, but I did the steps along with the video, including downloading the app for Mac OS, and in 10 minutes I had completed it and it works! Thank you for this clear, easy to follow video.
For those who want to set the sleep timer to something greater than the default, the value should be entered in milliseconds (1000 equals 1 second). The default value in the video 1,200,000 translates to 1200 seconds, which is 20 minutes. I want mine to be set to 12 hours, simple math (1000*60*60*12) = 43200000. I use my FireTV as a 3rd computer monitor. Fire sticks I am setting to 2 hours, which is 7200000 milliseconds. I still want my devices to sleep, just not so aggressively.
Command: settings put secure sleep_timeout 43200000
With my Insignia FireTV, I had to press the center button 7 times in the about screen before Developer mode appeared.

Great video, well presented. It took me about 4 attempts to get firestick to accept the IP address, yes I did it correctly EVERY time.
I am only saying this for anyone else who can't get it to work first time. ( ok, operator error, I admit that, and I do mean ME)

Thank you so much for your well paced easy to follow video. I just bought a new TV a week ago, and this auto turn off feature was driving me nuts to the point that I considered returning the TV! With your video I was able to fix that annoying factory setting and not have the TV cut off on me. God bless you 😆☺️
Excellent video and it did work. Just did this on 02/07/2022 on 2 TV's. One worked like a charm and the second wouldn't connect. To fix this just toggle ADB off/on the Fire Stick and it then worked. This is in the help files of adbLink program and it worked. Again, thanks!
I have tested out the Firestick for several hours and these settings /alterations work perfectly. I have an 2021 Amazon Light Firestick and your settings works fine with this newer model here in the UK. Thanks again.
HUGELY HELPFUL!! Thank you!!! One note for others, make sure your computer and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. I couldn’t connect in the adblink app and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong and finally realized my laptop had connected to our Wi-Fi downstairs instead of the upstairs router. That immediately fixed my connection issue.
Oh, and this may be a dumb question. But do you need to have this program open or your computer on and open for this to work? Or will it stay in this setting with my computer closed, adblink program closed, etc? Thank you again!!

This worked damn FLAWLESSLY - Inbavent checked out your channel yet but you did such a great job with the step by step, a lot of time went into it and it just wirked great. I bought an insignia Model NS 32DF32DF310NA19 about a year ago and it would go to sleep first then turn off every 10 to 15 minutes if there was no interaction with it (such as changing the channels or just surfing RUclips). This fix from RonsWorld did the trick. I'm amazed at Insignia's lack of quality control specific to their firmware. I'm very very impressed with this fix. It's saving me a lot of headaches. Having to re-enter closed apps due to the auto sleep and off modes being defective was the biggest pain in the world. Thanks a million Ron! 😀

Thanks for this excellent video. I used it two years ago and just used it again today - to stop my TV I use as a monitor from timing out. You should make a new video showing the new edit buttons on the main ADBLink home screen rather than the ADB Shell (which I couldn't get to open). Great video. Very clear and concise. Thanks again!

Worked for me for a Firestick Lite. One tricky thing was to enable developer options, you need to go into Settings -> My Fire TV -> About, click the button 5 or more times while on the "About" selection. You should get a message that developer options is enabled. Then you need to go into those options and enable ADB.

No, you can exit Ablink. The settings will stick until you go back in to change them.

The newest fire stick will only allow unknown sources app install after an app is installed and only for that one app. The box will not pop up apps from unknown sources turn on. When I put the IP address into adblink it won't connect or bring up any box. Can you help?
Click About 7 times then Developer options will appear........then turn on ADB and Uknown Sources

Thank you, I was so tired of having my Insignia Fire TV turn off after only a few minutes. This worked for me even though I don’t have a fire stick, I just used the IP address of the tv itself. I wish we didn’t have to do this and they could just make this an option, it would be so simple.

Update: maybe you said this but I didn't catch it anywhere. On newer Firesticks you have to go into the Device setting, which is now called "My Firestick" menu and turn on "allow debugging". If you don't do this, you can't connect. Bottom line, it worked! Thank you. My Firestick "lite" now works flawlessly with an old iPhone 6 we use a universal remote and media player. The connection used to time out all the time due the Firestick sleep mode. Now it doesn't...and just "works" when we want it to. I'm interested to see what happens when the screen saver times out with the sleep function off. You'd think it would stay on indefinitely...but I'm wondering if it defaults to the home screen after a while. Wait and see...

This was driving me crazy.
ADB Link does work. However, there's no need to open a console window and manually enter the commands. There's a "Set Timers" option under the "Utility" heading on older versions and on newer versions there's an "Edit Timers" button, 2nd option down on the right-most column.
Yep, this was it for me. It wouldn't find the IP address for ADP shell and I noticed the edit timers and the sleep function turn off was right there.

I watched your video, and you did a really good job talking everyone through the steps. I haven’t done it, but was planning to do so. I do have a VPN, but know you have to disable it to find the IP address on your Firestick. I would have thought after you changed the settings on the Firestick, you would be able to run your VPN again, since this program adblink isn’t a program that is loaded onto the stick. It just allows you to get into the programming of it. Am I right, or in left field on that thought?

For my newest FS 4k Max(April 2023) After entering IP address on ADB I had to just hit "connect" button for POP up to show on TV. Otherwise there was no pop up showing. Now no probs with Screensaver. 😊
I'm not using a fire stick but I was able to do this on my Smart TV (Insignia), which completely Powers down if you leave it on pause for more than 10 minutes. However, if I close out of adblink on my computer it automatically disconnects any connected devices and renders all of these steps moot. 🥺

I don’t know why that happened. The gateway IP address is the IP address of your router. The router
dynamically assigns IP addresses (DHCP) to all devices it services such as your Firestick. The IP address of your Firestick will be similar to the router with the exception of the last digit(s). For example a router IP could be 192.168.1.1 and a Firestick IP could be 192.168.1.2.
The only way I would be able to determine why it worked would be to look at your router configuration. I must admit that this is unusual. I am glad it worked.

What if you dont have a computer in your house? I just have my tv and my phone. I got a message saying this adb software cant be securely installed (on my phone)

It worked for me with the fire stick lite bought in 2022. You need to enable developer options by going to the My Fire TV -> About, and while About is highlighted, click the button about 5 times. It will tell you that developer options were enabled and the option will appear. Then you need to go in developer options and enable ADB.

I do not know anything about the Insignia FireTV. I my is that it will not work since the FireStick is newer and built-in to the unit. Ablink cannot be downloaded and installed on to a phone. It’s not an ‘App’ but an ‘Application’ that can be run on a Windows PC or Laptop, a Macintosh computer or laptop, or a computer running Linux.
Wow I thought oh cool I’m finally going to fix this issue. Followed directions on my TV step-by-step until he said now go on desktop and download software. It was too good to be true. Damn
The software is free Open Source and non-intrusive. It does not change the parameters of your computer. It is used to change the parameters of your Firestick so that you can get the desired results. This helped me so I thought I would share it. I do not sell anything.
Also what if you have a program like IPVanish can you still do this or will it not work?

Just found out it doesn't work with ipvanish, your ipvanish won't be able to connect if you have the program running on your computer! 🤦♂️

The Developers Options is still there. It is hidden. I do not know why they did that. Here is how to get it back:

The ADB Shell button does not open the command prompt or terminal. I know how to open a regular command prompt. But not sure how to get to the right one. Any thoughts?
There are buttons on the main ADB Link screen to Edit Timers now. I just did this five minutes ago. Click Edit Timers and do the setting there. Once you click the radio buttons to ff and set the values to Zero then close that window. After a few seconds a pop-up will confirm that the new settings are at zero.
I don't understand why I can't get this to work with my Isignia FireTV. It simply will not connect. It tells me I can't connect to the provided IP address. I've confirmed the TV name and IP address is correct, and I've also connected to the same WiFi that the TV is using. Screw Amazon for making this so stupid.

Sorry, I do not recognize the error message. It does not appear to have anything to do with the app itself but rather a .dll file (library file) missing on your computer.
I did a quick check on the Internet and found a possible fix for the error. Here is the link:

If you are not computer-savvy, I would not recommend playing around with .dll files because if something goes wrong, it can break other things on your computer.

When I click adb shell it says error creating command file but is connected.
Do I need to install any other software for this? I have been trying this on the new FireStick 4K ones... I keep getting Unauthorized for the connection status... no pop up came up either...
I have not tested this procedure on the new Firestick 4Ks. This was tested on the older ones. Notice that this video is old and I do not think the 4Ks were out yet.

The GET command he showed is to check the screensaver timeout, NOT the sleep timeout (which we set with adb). If you want to check your SLEEP timeout, then use command: settings get secure sleep_timeout . It updated to 0 for me.
I am having a issue.
Device is connected and I see the connection status IP connection and ADB is running.
When I click on ADB she’ll, i get an “error creating command file”.

I responded but it did not post. Here it is again: Close Ablink. Move Ablink to your Desktop and run it from there.
I did all this and it will not work. In named it and put the ip address in and then hit save then it will not connect. Anybody know why?
What if I never get the pop up on fire stick?
For me I had to enter in the Gateway number instead of the IP address to get the pop up. Hope this helps.
How would you set the idle time on a insignia fire tv ?
Same steps, but instead of selecting FireStick, go to Devices and Software instead. Click “Your TV” several times and you’ll see it say you’re almost a developer. Continue to click until you see “you’re a developer” and you can then go back to Devices and Software and you’ll see “Developer options”. Follow the rest of his steps!
Listen...just use the downloader app, go to google and search (stay awake apk) and install it on firestick. But make sure you download the right one (it's an orange lightbulb). Also you will need to install mouse toggle to be able to navigate the Stay Awake app. You can see how to install mouse toggle on youtube.
And thats it after you install the stay awake apk on firestick and also mouse toggle app you can keep firestick from going to sleep.
And someone should use this info and make a youtube video.

I just did this to our Insignia FireTV (no stick) and so far it seems to be working! When he gets to the section in the video where he says to select fire stick, select devices and software instead. Thanks for the excellent video Ron!
