My Fire Cube used to infuriate me when watching something then having to pause it to go and do something for more than 15 minutes to come back to a blank screen and then the home screen, and then having to spend ages hunting for the program I was watching again, the amount of times I've almost thrown the damn thing out of the window! I spent my full Saturday with 5 different amazon techs trouble shooting the sleep issue NONE could fix the issue … Your video was to the point and direct … I followed your steps with pause to quad check spelling haha … your directions worked and fixed the sleep mode . Chris, Thank you very much. This has had me so frustrated trying to find where and how to change the sleep timeout. It makes absolutely NO sense that there isn't a simple setting to change instead of having to go into the Developer options to change. Thanks again and I was sure to subscribe too!👍
This worked! Thank you so much. I especially wanted my screensaver to stay on since it is Christmastime and I've got beautiful Christmas photos I want to play throughout the day. Just one note, though, my Android phone was not able to get that current app, it was outdated for my version of Android phone. So I had to go to my older tablet to get it. I wish I could say Thank You but I’m like the few who got, “Connection Failed” while entering the IP address for the Remote ADB shell. I see no response was given so I think I’m returning this TV. I have a ROKU TV and live it! Nothing should be this difficult!

When I go to install the remote ADB Shell, it says it will get full network access, but in your video it says it does not require any special access. I'm holding off on installing because it seems sketchy.

I can't thank you enough for this info! It worked on 2 of my firesticks but for some reason it won't work on my other one. It says make sure my device has network ADB enabled. And of course it is. I don't know why it's not working. But I'm so happy I was able to do it on the others. Thanks again
I am glad this helped, please try rebooting your other firestick by holding down the Play/Pause Button and the middle button until you get the message your device is powering off then try again to see if you can get it working.

@@cwtek1 Yes, I think you're right. They've taken steps to disable two previous methods of defeating the sleep, and now they've done it again with the 4k max v2 (2023). As you say, this must be to give the device a good energy-saving profile. I'm currently (literally as we speak) trying the Stay Alive! 2.1 app (which has to be sideloaded from an .apk) and I'm currently looking at a paused video being played from Kodi which hasn't yet gone into sleep mode (about 40 mins).

Hi, I am trying to do this but I keep getting a message right at the point of connecting the remote ADB shell. It looks like it’s going to connect then it says failed. What am I doing wrong?
Unfortunately Amazon have blocked ADB Commands from being run locally on the device at the moment, so this is not working at present, I am hoping they will remove the block soon.

@Chris Waite ur welcome, after I did that the option for my TV (Alexa/echo dot) was gone in my Alexa app. I had to factory reset my fire stick to get it back in order to turn my tv on or off. I love ur vids tho and they work.

Fantastic video Chris, this fix works to stop the Firestick sleeping while the TV is switched on but unfortunately as soon as you turn the TV off the Firestick logs out presenting you with the user login screen. Is there any way to stop this behaviour? ie keeping the Firestick awake and logged in even when you turn the TV off. Update: Most TVs seem to have a separate CEC/simlink feature that syncs power. Turn it off and bingo the Firestick stays active. Now I can leave the sideloaded Wolf launcher active and I don't have to put up with the standard messy advertising saturated Firestick interface.
I'm facing the same problem. Trying to figure it out on my LG. I had to go to the edit icon (pencil) then add simlink to the menu options. Very hidden.

I have experience with computers and this is a very serious task people when he says double N quadruple check your spelling, spaces and underscores he means it. If you mess up 1 letter you will be buying a new fire stick. This is like goin into your task manager on your computer in commands and typing a new command get it wrong and your screwed. I would like 14:18 to thank you once again Sir for figuring out how to do this and sharing. I 🫡 you…. Mine said Kara the first time then it said a different name but had the 0 above the name. Take snapshots people. I wish i had but thankfully it worked. So if it says a different name other than Kara don’t panic as long as you have the 0 value above your good to go 😅 mine works just fine. 😊

This worked on two of my fire sticks but the one at work keeps saying failed and then connecting with a note saying please make sure the target device has network ADB enabled. You may need to accept the prompt on the target device if you are connecting to it for the first time from this device. What does that mean? My fire stick is all proper, and has the correct settings. Is it the actual network? I am hooked up to at work being the problem? I have uninstalled everything restarted, and I get the same results.
I have the same problem too. Mine's just a normal Fire TV (not 4K)... You meant to say 'Please make sure the target device has ADB enabled'. It also says 'Connection failed' the first time you try, but the cursor just circles with that above statement, and never connects on subsequent attempts.
Please try restarting your device by holding down the play/pause and middle button until you get the message to say your device is powering off, then try again.
@cwteck1 i’ve tried this again many weeks later now hoping something will change and it gives me the same message. My Firestick is not that old but all it has is the microphone button added to it so I don’t know if the older versions are just not working? Both of my other 4K fire sticks work great thank you.

I did all this yesterday, did everything correctly, thought it worked, now it’s back to going to sleep! Ugh!! Maybe I’ll try it again. Update: ok I just checked it out again and it’s still set to 0 on the timeout. You think maybe it’s a setting on my tv that’s turning it off? Going to check that now!

However, the screen saver still invokes - is there any way to disable the screen saver so the paused image just remains on the screen? Just tried this on the new 4k Max. It prevents the ambient mode from working as you would want. I let the stick idle, watched it turn to the ambient mode, then saw it quickly revert back to the home screen. Not what I was hoping for. Trying to make our not Frame TVs pictures when not in use. Any ticks you've learn? Please share. And thank you!
You can turn off ambient mode in the regular settings (cog). It's turning off the sleep on the new 4k Max that it won't do. In any case, turning the sleep (in the settings) from screen off to "black screen" is the first step as that will, at least, prevent a possibly troublesome HDMI renegotiation when you hit OK to turn the thing back on.
Does this work on the new Firestick 4K Max? This method worked on my previous Firestick 4K, but can't seem to connect when I reach the ADB connection point

Just one note, though, my Android phone was not able to get that current app, it was outdated for my version of Android phone. So I had to go to my older tablet to get it.

When I go to install the remote ADB Shell, it says it will get full network access, but in your video it says it does not require any special access. I'm holding off on installing because it seems sketchy.

I can't thank you enough for this info! It worked on 2 of my firesticks but for some reason it won't work on my other one. It says make sure my device has network ADB enabled. And of course it is. I don't know why it's not working. But I'm so happy I was able to do it on the others. Thanks again
I am glad this helped, please try rebooting your other firestick by holding down the Play/Pause Button and the middle button until you get the message your device is powering off then try again to see if you can get it working.

@@cwtek1 Yes, I think you're right. They've taken steps to disable two previous methods of defeating the sleep, and now they've done it again with the 4k max v2 (2023). As you say, this must be to give the device a good energy-saving profile. I'm currently (literally as we speak) trying the Stay Alive! 2.1 app (which has to be sideloaded from an .apk) and I'm currently looking at a paused video being played from Kodi which hasn't yet gone into sleep mode (about 40 mins).

Hi, I am trying to do this but I keep getting a message right at the point of connecting the remote ADB shell. It looks like it’s going to connect then it says failed. What am I doing wrong?
Unfortunately Amazon have blocked ADB Commands from being run locally on the device at the moment, so this is not working at present, I am hoping they will remove the block soon.

@Chris Waite ur welcome, after I did that the option for my TV (Alexa/echo dot) was gone in my Alexa app. I had to factory reset my fire stick to get it back in order to turn my tv on or off. I love ur vids tho and they work.

Fantastic video Chris, this fix works to stop the Firestick sleeping while the TV is switched on but unfortunately as soon as you turn the TV off the Firestick logs out presenting you with the user login screen. Is there any way to stop this behaviour? ie keeping the Firestick awake and logged in even when you turn the TV off.
Update: Most TVs seem to have a separate CEC/simlink feature that syncs power. Turn it off and bingo the Firestick stays active. Now I can leave the sideloaded Wolf launcher active and I don't have to put up with the standard messy advertising saturated Firestick interface.

I'm facing the same problem. Trying to figure it out on my LG. I had to go to the edit icon (pencil) then add simlink to the menu options. Very hidden.
Is there not an adb command to disable the power button on any remote?
Did anyone ever find a work around for this? The CEC feature disables all the buttons on my Samsung tv besides the power lol. So unlucky.

I have experience with computers and this is a very serious task people when he says double N quadruple check your spelling, spaces and underscores he means it. If you mess up 1 letter you will be buying a new fire stick. This is like goin into your task manager on your computer in commands and
typing a new command get it wrong and your screwed. I would like 14:18 to thank you once again Sir for figuring out how to do this and sharing. I 🫡 you…. Mine said Kara the first time then it said a different name but had the 0 above the name. Take snapshots people. I wish i had but thankfully it worked. So if it says a different name other than Kara don’t panic as long as you have the 0 value above your good to go 😅 mine works just fine. 😊

This worked on two of my fire sticks but the one at work keeps saying failed and then connecting with a note saying please make sure the target device has network ADB enabled. You may need to accept the prompt on the target device if you are connecting to it for the first time from this device.
What does that mean? My fire stick is all proper, and has the correct settings. Is it the actual network? I am hooked up to at work being the problem? I have uninstalled everything restarted, and I get the same results.
I have the same problem too. Mine's just a normal Fire TV (not 4K)... You meant to say 'Please make sure the target device has ADB enabled'. It also says 'Connection failed' the first time you try, but the cursor just circles with that above statement, and never connects on subsequent attempts.
Please try restarting your device by holding down the play/pause and middle button until you get the message to say your device is powering off, then try again.

@@Janelle25able Nope. Put the App on your Android phone instead, type in the Stick's IP address and type the line of text in from there
@cwteck1 i’ve tried this again many weeks later now hoping something will change and it gives me the same message. My Firestick is not that old but all it has is the microphone button added to it so I don’t know if the older versions are just not working? Both of my other 4K fire sticks work great thank you.

I have used this tutorial many times, it’s brilliant!
I am just going through it again for our new fire stick and it’s not working. At around 7:40 in the video when we connect to the Remote ADB Shell, when I click connect it says Connection Failed.

Hopefully if they unlock ADB then this should work again. You might be able to do this from a phone or tablet or even PC using an ADB shell.

I did all this yesterday, did everything correctly, thought it worked, now it’s back to going to sleep! Ugh!! Maybe I’ll try it again.
Update: ok I just checked it out again and it’s still set to 0 on the timeout. You think maybe it’s a setting on my tv that’s turning it off? Going to check that now!

However, the screen saver still invokes - is there any way to disable the screen saver so the paused image just remains on the screen? I'm doing something specific where I want a particular image (part of a paused video) to remain on the screen so the screen acts as sort of a photo portrait. Thank you!
To turn the screensaver off go to settings then Display and Audio then Screensaver and change Start Time to Never!

Just tried this on the new 4k Max. It prevents the ambient mode from working as you would want. I let the stick idle, watched it turn to the ambient mode, then saw it quickly revert back to the home screen. Not what I was hoping for. Trying to make our not Frame TVs pictures when not in use. Any ticks you've learn? Please share. And thank you!

You can turn off ambient mode in the regular settings (cog). It's turning off the sleep on the new 4k Max that it won't do. In any case, turning the sleep (in the settings) from screen off to "black screen" is the first step as that will, at least, prevent a possibly troublesome HDMI renegotiation when you hit OK to turn the thing back on.

The shell name differs depending on the firestick or cube that you have.

Your TV may have a separate power after so many hours or minutes in the settings you need to turn off.

Please restart your device by holding down the play pause button and middle button on the remote until you see a banner saying your device is powering off! Then try again!

You could try creating another profile, sometimes certain apps will not be shown on the front screen, they will often only be seen in Manage Apps.
