On the third "please, I need this" I wasn't sure whether to laugh or to cry. Masterful acting
I couldn't watch, so I skipped that part. It was too painful.
Unfortunately, skipping it in the middle of him saying "I need this!" a third time cut off his sentence and put him in front of his friend.
This abrupt jump-cut made me laugh, and I'm very sorry.
Worst part is, that's pretty close to how I lost my second job.

Fuck me this hits hard, was made redundant 4 months ago (all Good now) but the sheer number of people suggesting I do rando shit was so awkward, you love em and understand they want to help but really can't understate how bad the suggestions are 😂

I think its that "know it all" attitude that got Joel fired in the first place. His friends were there trying to brainstorm and Joel with his infinite wisdom kept shutting down their incredibly helpful ideas... Its a shame.
That was his job, to know it all, but he failed since he thought it was Monday and not Sunday

I was trying not to laugh to see how hard it was to keep a straight face during that, but no… not possible
I didn't lose a job, but the owner of my apartment told me the other day that he sold it to someone who doesn't rent, so I have until next April to get a new one. I live in Argentina and our rent laws are not very friendly. Couple that with how bad our economy is tanking and the forecast looks pretty bleak. Even so, all my friends came to my support and to this day I don't understand how can I be so blessed to have people in my life who go above and beyond to help me out. They say I earned it, but I still find that hard to believe.

Wow I’m so sorry. There should be a law against that everywhere. If they want to build condos fine. But if it’s already a rental it should have to remain one. It’s so hard in many places to find regular rental apartments. But I’m really impressed with your friends. You must be a pretty great person to get all of that support so quickly. I really hope you find something, but if not it sounds like you’ve got places to crash on their couches for a while. Happy Halloween anyway! Hope you went out and had some fun.
@@phoenixgirl70 I managed to get another apartment about seven blocks from my last one. I couldn'tve have done it with the support of my friends and family. It's a lot more expensive but even if money is slim at the end of the month I can shoulder it myself.

I think we’ve all felt the sting of a job loss and then experienced the concern of a walrus-obsessed friend to ease the pain.

My husband was laid off a little while ago and hasn't been able to get nearly what he was getting paid before despite all his years of work experience. Sometimes you really do think you have life figured out and then it takes a big ol' dump on you. Thanks for this ♥

at roughly 5:33, Joel Haver (acting as a recently-unemployed Batman or guy in a Batman suit, depending on interpretation) seems to flick his cape back--this may be a nod to an earlier short by the name of "Perfect for A Guy Like You" wherein the 'guy' (Ron) also wears a cape and indignantly flicks his cape back after verbally assaulting an assuming realtor. Fascinating to see the parallels between caped characters!
I love how utterly raw and real this one is. Just the other day my friend also got a phone call at a weird time so this hits really close to home

I'm pretty sure if I had encountered this video as a kid it would deeply traumatise and scare me, as I had a really weak abhorrence of all things weird and crazy. Wish I could be a kid again. Love Joel.

Great short film, loved the use of the aspect ratio and filter to make it look more “classic” (or if you used a specific camera to make it look the way it does double props!)

It’s really something the way you can take such random concepts and absurd humor stuff and make them feel so real and heartfelt at the same time. All while bringing some killer laughs. I really liked when you had the presence of mind to just be like "you guys I think I just need a day to grieve" and they were like "oh yeah, cool" and then after that it was just chill. If only more people had that presence of mind, they'd be a lot more mentally healthy.
True story, back in the late 90s when I was in highschool one of my friendships dads was the guy who made machines that made machines. He was an odd sort but pretty cool. Showed us a vhs tape of a toilet his company pitched NASA for the space shuttle. Was super proud of their design which had and I quote "patented spread cheek technology." I wonder what happened to that toilet lol.
Wonderful casting job on those dogs as background actors. Really sold the piece for me.

Getting to this a bit late, but I was here too. I worked and got promoted up in a company over the course of 4 years essentially. I wanted to become a manager and people were picked because they were friends with the higher ups, but I clawed my way up to a similar paying position, and it was nice while it lasted and then within 6 months of it, They let me go without warning essentially.
I sort of had forgotten about it until earlier today when a lot of stuff was on my mind including that... It's been a rough day for me too lol. Loved the video as usual Joel.

I did that job for 5 years and besides the whole legality dilemma it paid extremely well and I could set my own hours.
Was not expecting the super realistic seal walk.
