Excellent video. So well narrated and filmed. No fluff, and nothing missing it seems. I am tackling this job this weekend and came here to get an idea of what is involved. I am very confident in the job now. Thanks again.
At the time I could only find the entire assembly. Some have said you can just unbolt the pulley portion, but not sure about pressing the new one in. If not, this worked like a charm
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage yes, I saw the other comments that say the pump is modular and can be replaced on its own. Before heading down to GMC to get the parts, I tore into it and removed the modular pump to confirm that the housing was okay. It had some minor scuffing on it where that wobbly pump was actually chafing the inside surfaces a bit, but nothing major and I decided it was not so severe that it needed replacement. So off I went to GMC to get p/n 12692045 (pump & gasket). All-in-all, a very easy job. Smart design by GM (well except that maybe the downside of this modular design which seems to be a general lack of robustness hence all these failures I see all over the internet!) At least it's easy to replace. In any case, if the full housing job is ever needed, I know which video to follow.

2019 Yukon Denali w/ 6.2L. Thanks for the video. Wish my AC compressor was as easy as yours was! I used a little grease at the compressor mount and it helped. Did the same with the Alternator. I only had 63k on the ODO when I heard what sounded like bells coming from my belt/pully area, but every time I opened the hood the noise went away. Didn’t take long after that for the pump to go bad though, and it chewed up the inside of the housing causing me to replace the whole assembly.

Why change that whole assembly? Mine was pissing out of what seems to be the “manifold” directly under and behind the mounting for the pump impeller. Was this the same way? Or Is there a weep hole, or something and just the impeller and gasket needs replaced and the “manifold” will stop leaking? There doesn’t seem to be any reason it’s leaking from there. For context with the old pump in to find the leak after everything cooled down I added more water and found the leak. Impeller bearing is shot.

Any reason why you didn't flush the system? Also, I see that you used Prestone coolant. I'm assuming it was Dex-Cool. I paid a little more and got the GM brand. Regarding burping the system, are you saying that running the heat on high burps it or do you have to do anything else?
This was part of a larger repair, so the coolant had all been removed (even out of the cylinder heads. The heat on helps the heater core burp, and pouring the coolant in the hoses to ensure it fills the radiator until it comes out the thermostat also helps burp it. The main concern is to fill the entire system, and let the degas tank help. I have the same model year and. It was only to replace the pump itself and not that whole crazy housing. You could just replace the pump itself with probably the quarter of the cost and time.
