This was a lifesaver! My water pump went out two hours from home, no shops had space. A quick Uber to OReillys and 45 minutes later I'm back on the road.
Literally in the same boat right now, bro
@@isaacmagovero296Good luck! It's super simple. The one thing that I'd watch for is making sure not to drop the bolts for the water pump. I spent most of my time hunting through the engine bay for one that got away from me.
Thank you for straightforward explanation. I appreciate the fact that you didn't do a lot of unnecessary talking. It was all meat and potatoes! I was about to give a garage $540 to do this procedure. Thanks to you I'll save a ton of money by doing it myself!
You’re the man, thank you
119,000 miles on my 2018 Silverado and the pump was spraying coolant down the highway on a Friday night
Quick stop at autozone before they closed and we’re back on the road.
You saved my family’s weekend!
Dude.. many thanks for this video! 2018 Sierra 106k miles. I wasn’t even sure what my wobbling pulley even went to when I first found your video. Used your video to help diagnose and also to show me how to replace my water pump. Went smoothly. I owe ya a beer for sure!
Hey! Got a 2018 sierra 6.2l with 102k miles. My water pump failed and all the coolant leaked out 😅
Mine started with a squeak and also thought it was the serpentine belt or a pulley.
And this is why I chose this engine. Even easier than the old LS.
Thanks sooo much! With your wonderful step by step video even old Farmer can do this. Thanks again!
Great design on GM’s part - super easy to replace
Solid tutorial. Mine went out about an hour ago. Vehicle has 112,000 miles. Video was straight to the point without all the RUclips fluff. 👍🏻🇺🇸
This is the same thing I do when something goes wrong with my truck, I immediately RUclips it to see how hard it’ll be😂
Did yours randomly piss out all the coolant? Or how did you know it went out
Great video. Would be awesome to have heard the tick sound it was making before and heard the engine running after. Thanks.
Thanks for the info man it's was straightforward and easy to follow your doing a real service
You saved my ass with this vid thank you. Very informative and great camera angles. Most vids are proped up on a stand and you gotta go off what they say.
22,000 miles on my 2018 5.3 and the damn bearing goes out? good thing they redesigned it to be a easy fix
My wife’s 2018 Tahoe made it to 55,000 smh
mine just went on my 2018 Silverado custom at 54K... quick easy fix, but disappointed i'm already replacing parts at 54k
@@drewrhodes3006 yep!
I got 130k
@@Hoodscars5658 oh stop bragging over achiever.... Lmao
Love the vid man! My 2015 is running fine, but I'm stock piling videos so I dont have to hunt later.
That’s a great idea!
@@AaronHinesAuto 7 foot pounds or inch pounds?
Great video. I think 7 ftlbs for mounting bolts is too small
Easy video explanation.. 👏 Wow thanks a lot dude.. Come on people, let’s give more thumbs up 👍 to this video…
That’s what I like GM trucks easy to fix not like ford ecoboost pain in
I'm about to do this on my 2015 with 25,000 miles. Seems like there is no point in draining the coolant since a crap ton came out anyway. and its near the top of the engine.
What an excellent video! Thank you for doing this!!
Was anyone experiencing a chirping sound from their 5.3 at higher load then it goes away once the RPMs go back down? I've narrowed it to the water pump
Yeah mine gave out, I was gonna check it The Weekend but it just broke
Thank you ir really helped us today , very explicit
Great video bro
Just finished the WP on a 2015 Yukon. Radiator train valve (plastic with wings) is only accessible top side. Pretty hard to get to. I have one comment on gasket- if it’s not lined up precisely the bolts won’t go back on. I found using a very little bit of Vaseline between gasket and mating surface on a few spots helped a lot with alignment.
Always use gasket sealer on gaskets! It makes it easier to install and aids in sealing!
Man I torqued to much and broke the head of just one of my bolts while replacing new water pump how do I correct my mistake and thanks for the video
Thanks for the video. Greatly helped!
Pretty sure it's 11ft lbs
Thank you for making this video!
Mine went out just two days ago on my 2018 1500 Sierra at 159K miles. I guess I’m lucky it lasted this long. It was making a horrendous noise and took it to the dealership. Changed me $600.00 to replace. I guess you have to pay when you suck at doing mechanic’s work.
One question, the pulley where the water pump is, should it be fixed or should it move as if it were loose?
Loose
Thx for the help!!! Very thorough.
My water pump was making all kinds of noises and vibrating on my 2014 Silverado and shredded my belt. All I need to do is just replace the water pump like this video?
yes. same issue besides the belt shredding for me
@@AaronHinesAuto thanks your videos helped me change my water pump and belt very helpful 👍
Do you have to flush the system before installing the new pump?
Once you take the belt off can you turn the wheel on the water pump to check if the bearings are bad?
My 2018 Silverado started squeaking. I took it to a mechanic and the guy told me the water pump was bad and it needed the whole water pump assembly and also said you can’t buy the pulley without the water pump assembly, and they want to charge me $700 to replace it.
Same here !!!!
Is this a common issue with them? I drive a 2017, hoping this was addressed in the early days. Great video thanks for sharing
I have an '18 and mine went out at 75K.
@@levimcgee lmao I have a 2018 & mine just went out at 77k
@@marka7532 i have a 2018 and mine we out at 74.5k
My 2016 with 102k just started leaking from the weep hole pretty good
Started to leak at 60 thou
Are these bolts one-time use(torque to yield, I think it's called)
Great video easy to follow
Great video... thanks for the help!
Great video... Thank you!
Way easier than a 3.5 Ecoboost!
Muito obrigado salvou meu dia parabéns
Perfect thank you
are all of the waterpump bolts the same length?
my truck is just pissing out of the water pump, whats the chance its the entire housing vs just the pump or gasket?
Can I get the exact torque wrench you used for this job?
Is this the same procedure for the 4.3L V6, same years?
What brand torque wrench do you have there?
Hey i had the same problem my water pump was making the same noise and i drove it one day and the belt came off . Do i needs to change the housing with the water pump or just the wp????
Dam very easy to replace the water pump lol
Super smooooth
Great job sir
Awesome video! Thanks
I have a question I have the same thing I think I have a noise and I don’t know if it’s in the water pump or not but it don’t do it all the time
Looking at mine, it doesn't look like I actually need to remove the intake parts. Am I missing something or just taking crazy pills?
Temp seems low ? Does it have a low temp stat, or is the old thermostat need replacing .
That's what I saw too. His engine temp was at around 180 or some. Mine since I'm in Texas it goes straight to the middle but not exactly the middle but around it I mean
This is easier than my Sierra 2001 5.3
I have a 2014 GMC Sierra I need water pump bolts can u help me I can’t find bolts anywhere
Do you have a video with the noise..ive been trying to narrow down this annoying buzz or ticking when accelerating
My 2015 GMC Sierra is making a repetitive grumbling noise where the water pump is. Most likely it's your problem as well. I'm ordering an AC Delco pump and 2 belts while I'm there.
GOOD VIDEO !!!!!!!!!
i have a 2018 Tahoe - 37,000 KM
Slowly LOOSING COOLANT !!! NO LEAKS after about 1 week driving drops 2 " in RESERVOIR
ANY TIPS ???
Joni English use a mirror and look at radiator from inside of the engine bay ..there is a technical service bulletin about the thermostat cycling on and off and causing the radiator to leak..that’s where mine is leaking from

Update - Free FIX : Water Pump Replaced by DEALER N/C
@@rahrah8076 what mileage ?
Joni English mine has 300,000km lol
@@rahrah8076 AMAZING !!!!!!!!
you just have to do Regular Oil Change ?
What size socked did you use for the hex screws
I look everywhere and it says 11ftp 1st and 22ftp the second pass
Good job 👏👏👏👏
Wow easier than my old ls 5.3
Is suburban set up different same year?
Use an actual in lb wrench. Tighten each bolt a small amount in a star pattern. I just retrieved a broken bolt. My own fault.
Does anybody know if these have the little weep hole thing and if that would cause coolant loss like the old pumps? Mines not loud but I’m trying to trace the loss
Is the engine the same on a 4.3L V6 engine?
So my water pump pulley is wobbly and it squeaks. In this video you’re only replacing the pulley itself, but in my case what do I need to replace?
My pulley is wobbly and squeaky as well. I think I am going to try this fix depending on what the shop quotes me. I do not have leaks though
100,000 Miles Amazing that it started to Leak Now
mine leaked at 37,000 KM
Free Fix at Dealer
I guess I have been really lucky, 136,000 miles and still on original.
Gracias
I have 2014 5.3 Silverado and it overheats when I’m driving and gets down while idling changed thermostat and radiator , checked the fans all good , there is no leak or air still same problem . Could be the water pump ?
Went through same thing and at this current moment I only have water pump left. Did your fans kick on and temp gauge die when problem originally happened?
7ft pounds on the bolts? I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L
How much torque
Does the truck over heat w bad water pump ?
I was wondering the same. Mine heats up to the next line after the 210 mark then goes back down, but it only happens when I'm pulling my trailer and it always goes back down and so far hasn't went past that line yet.
Would a faulty water pump cause the belt to squeal and cause a coolant leak?
I'm sure you've gotten your answer via experience by now, but just in case... Water pumps are usually designed to leak when they go bad. It gets your attention BEFORE overheating. Bad bearings can break down and cause enough friction for the belt to start slipping and squealing.
Mine is just stuck in there after removing the bolts 😭🤬
7ftps ?
Hey I have a 2011 Ford F-150 and I changed the oil and the filter, and now the car doesn’t go in reverse. I tried to push it back when I put it on Neutral and it still goes forward. Do you know a soulution to this?
Yes, get buy a GMC truck.
Does that whinnying noise turn on and off periodically. I'm trying to locate this noise
Just step on gas pedal you’ll hear it and if you don’t then just grab the water pump pulley and pull back and forth and if it moves then that’s the culprit..you can do this with the belt on and of course engine off
@@rahrah8076 do you have email. I'll send you what I have
frt33twn rodneyyerxa@hotmail.com
@@rahrah8076 sent you the email
frt33twn almost sounds like the vacuum pump..have you done that recall yet?
UPDATE , i see coolant behind PULLEY !!!!
will BRING to the DEALER for REPLACEMENT !!!!!!
How old is the truck?
If my memory is correct it’s was a 14
Wont auto start with the hood open. But whatever
7lbs torque seems low
Just called a local shop and they quoted me $600 for this job. smh
