    I'd like to nominate this channel for a Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Vehicle Repair Program." This was quite possibly the most concise, BS-free, helpful repair video I've ever seen. My 2019 Yukon thanks you.

    Perfectly described procedure in the video. No wasted moves, no verbose video "ego" nonsense, just straight up good info. Fixed GF's 2016 GMC in 20 minutes. Changed sensor first- issue remained, so a month later did the thermostat, and that fixed it. As Danny suggested, probably best to do both at once. Thanks Danny.

      Was your fans staying on?

    • @rw7532
      @rw7532 Месяц назад +1

      @@captinhoop The fan stayed on our Tahoe when the truck was turned off and the coolant temperature gauge bottomed out at 160. Danny had a video of the same thing happening to this vehicle in the video. I changed the engine coolant sensor. Fan problem went away but the vehicle coolant temp has trouble getting warm past 180 degrees and if it reaches 210 it doesn’t stay there. I am going to replace the thermostat this week . I think the same happened to Danny because there is footage in this video that was in his coolant temperature sensor replacement video. If you plan to do it yourself I would do both the sensor and thermostat ar the same time, will safe you time and money on coolant. If one goes out I think the other is either also bad or not far behind.

    I did your procedure step by step as well worked 🙏.I was also told by the dealership that it would be 1200$,And this is after I had it serviced by them one time,had 0 issues 0 check engine lights,had very extensive and service record by previous owner (by different dealerships) well maintained beautiful 18 Suburban,I only needed a oil change that was due by oil life dash ,but was talked into 1600$ of “preventative maintenance “ love my vehicle and lacked mechanic knowledge at that time,Have had to take it back to them about five times since that “maintenance “ was done,from 3evap leaks to repair of my rims that they damaged and a/c loud noise after they replaced filter,also my battery was stolen and replaced with a AAA Battery that they are blaming AAA for because it was towed to dealership by them. So when this code came on they claimed that they didn’t touch that area and quoted me 1200$ masked my rage walked off and saw your video shocked at how cheap the part sensor cost so I bought the housing as well for “preventative maintenance “😂as well worked like a charm .thank you 🙏

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, the thermostat sticks open and over-cools the engine. The fan comes on because it recognizes the engine should be hot and it’s reading cold. It’s most likely the thermostat

    Can I ask why does replacing the thermostat fix it and not replacing the sensor?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  2 месяца назад

      If the thermostat is stuck open it over-cools the engine. It’s running under 160 degrees and the computer knows the temperature should be higher since the transmission and other temps are high. Now, if the sensor is in fact bad, it could be that too, but many times it’s the thermostat

    Do you have to reset the computer by taking off the negative wire after the coolant temp sensor is replaced?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  Месяц назад +1

      I show removing the negative cable in the beginning as it will reset the system and also be disconnected during the repair to reduce a short.

      @captinhoop Месяц назад

      @ I didn’t unhook the negative cable and the fans are still staying on. I guess it could be the thermostat sticking open but why would the fans stay on like it’s hot when it’s very cold?

      @@captinhoop If you don’t disconnect the battery it may not reset. You’ll know if it’s corrected if the temp gauge isn’t at zero (showing less than 160). If the thermostat sticks open it causes it to run the fans and show under 160 degrees as well

      @@dannyjohnsonsgarage copy. Well my wife is picking up a thermostat but I guess I’ll try a hard reset and see if that fixes it before taking out the thermostat. Should only take 10-15 minutes.

    Could a bad thermostat cause a coolant smell from the vents? Or is that specifically a leaking heater core?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  Год назад

      You most likely won’t smell it from the thermostat, so the heater core or even a leak in the engine can make it smell through the intake vents for the air conditioning

    I’ve replaced the water temp sensor and thermostat but the temperature won’t go up. The cables on the water temp sensor didn’t looked damaged or anything but we did drive through heavy rain recently if that can play a factor?

      It could be sticking closed. Or you could have air in the system and want to burp it like in the end

      I have seen my temp pegged at 210 straight up so I think that’s normal. It may be better to run colder but you also need to verify how the rest of the vehicle is designed. It may try to heat the engine up by leaning it out or give you a fault code, so I wouldn’t recommend it without a tune

    I have a 2015 yukon ive replaced the sensor with an oem unit twice. Still ends up getting stuck bottomed out like a simple electrical issue. If i clear the codes the code goes away and the temp gauge starts reading so its not the thermostat. Any other ideas?

    My radiator fan was staying on after I turned off my Tahoe, so I replaced the temp coolant sensor and it worked for a few days but the fan started staying on again.. would anyone know if I should change the thermostat or could it be a relay or a fuse?? Thanks in advance..

      If the gauge is reading zero when warm, it’s most likely the thermostat is bad and is over-cooling the engine.

    From what I can tell this is a 194° thermostat. For Danny or anyone else that’s used this one did you notice a drop in fuel economy. What I’m reading online it’s better to stick with the 207° thermostat like oem

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  9 месяцев назад

      This is a GM OEM thermostat and the engine temp stays at 210 as it’s designed. If it runs cooler the fans may kick on again and run continuously thinking something is wrong
