@@dannyjohnsonsgarage thank you! I replaced the thermostat and the temperature sensor and my Yukon is as good as new! And thank to your video it wasn’t too complicated. I did notice that my vehicle did not show a check engine light, I’m not sure if that matters.
Wanted to leave a comment to say thank you! Seems like my 2015 Yukon XL has been riddled with common issues & it's just one thing after another. RUclips has become my go-to place for solutions. I came across several videos for this issue, but none as easy to follow & quick to the point as yours. I'm trying to learn to fix the smaller details myself. I took this as a learning opportunity & got my hands dirty with my dad. Not only did we get the issue resolved, but it was nice to bond over his intrest too. So thanks again!
These are some of the best instructions I’ve seen for a car repair. I followed them today and the whole thing took less than 30 mins - and it went exactly as described. Very well done, and thanks!!!

Danny - cannot thank you enough. Had the exact same issue. Your step for step instructions were 100% on point. Part cost me $33 and took around an hour.

🤜 Thank you for the video. Dealer wanted $950.00 - I was able to complete for $55.00 (AC Delco temp sensor and new 19MM socket) 75 minutes by the time picked up parts watch video and worked on the engine.
This is a VERY thorough and informative video. Audio is clear and you even explain small details that others would assume people know…e.g., teflon tape…great video!
I had the same issue. I changed the temperature sensor and it worked like a charm! - 2015 Suburban - 265,xxx miles - CEL was on: P0118, P0128 - The fans would stay on with the car on and off. - A/C was not turning on I started searching away and saw your video! Everything was spot on! Working just fine! Big thank you!!
This video is absolutely perfect, thanks for sharing. My 2016 Yukon did the same and I received a quote from the dealership and they wanted 1300.00 to diagnose and repair. (THEY ARE CRAZY). I did purchase the GM Brand sensor for 53.00 and replaced it in merely 10 minutes. I don't know why you had to remove the entire intake silencer or drain off the radiator hose. I removed the intake connection and left it connected to the air filter section, removed the sensor with towels around it to keep fluid from going over the entire engine/ground; and I only lost about 3 tablespoons of fluid and put the new sensor on. Reconnected everything and now runs perfectly. THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO.
I also replaced the thermostat, but made the videos separate as well for those only doing one repair. It doesn’t hurt to drain a little fluid for less of a mess. I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for this video. I bought the part a while back after watching how to replace it on an Escalade, but then I realized that my Tahoe had the air silencer (which the Escalade did not). I was not sure how to proceed with the air silencer, but your video was very clear and helped a lot. I did not do the optional part of removing the hose -- when I removed the old sensor I was prepared with some paper towels. Things to note for others dealing with this: 1) if your check engine light remains on after replacing the sensor you typically have to start/stop the car 3 times before the car recognizes that the previous problem causing the light to illuminate no longer exists. 2) if your situation is like mine, when the sensor is bad the fan will stay on for 5 minutes after the car is turned off. For a long time this was just annoying, until it happened so often that it drained my battery and my Tahoe wouldn't start. I saw someone ask if this must get fixed - I don't know about if it is bad for your engine to let the can continue running all the time, but it definitely drains your battery.
@@stpx yes. It was very easy except I didn’t do a great job collecting coolant that spilled. I hosed my driveway off and it didn’t leave any marks. Make sure you replace coolant with correct type. Also try and fill the hose up before you reconnect it so you don’t have too much air in the system. I assume it matters.
Sitting in my Sierra looking at the check engine that just came on and listening to the cooling fan. Thanks to you i have the confidence to try this myself along with thermostat change.

With the instructions from your video, had it corrected in about 30 min. I Didn't remove the radiator hose though. Just placed my finger over the opening as I removed the old sensor. I lost less than a teaspoon of coolant while removing the old/installing the new sensor.

Excellent video! Just a little PSA here. Replace your thermostat also! The same guy here has a similar video for replacing a thermostat, which is right next to the temp sensor. It's a part that is likely to eventually fail so replace it! Expand his description of this video, he says the same thing, I think I just never saw it. Also you find the handy links to order the parts there. I found this video and carried out the steps as I thought it would solve my trouble code which seemed to point to the temp sensor. For some reason, I was too dense to heed the fact that in his video, his sensor was reading zero while mine seemed to read ok. I let myself be confused by the trouble code. It was P0128 "engine coolant temperature is below the thermostat regulating temperature". I thought maybe my temp sensor was intermittently failing or off. Nah. A new thermostat is what fixed that. The temp sensor was fine. The good news I have excellent hindsight so it's all perfectly clear now what I should have done!
I have a 2015 Chevy tahoe, and it was running cold. About every other month, the fan would stay on after I turned the ignition off. I replaced the temp sensor and housing, and that solved my problem. Thanks
This was helpful in diagnosing my 2018. Only difference in steps I followed… 1. only remove the right side of the air intake, use a bungee cord to suspend in the air to the left. 2. Place rags around the sensor when removing to minimize spill. 3. Clamp the large hose going into thermostat housing. Little to no spill, completed in 20 minutes, no more high fan and temperature on dash properly reading now. 👍

@dannyjohnsonsgarage will the radiator cause the fan to come and do you think it may be clogged up because I don't see no sign of coolant on the ground
@@mississippioutlaw2285 the fans will continue to run because the vehicle has noticed. It is more hot than usual, just like how they will also run if it thinks it’s too cold than usual. I would try to burp the system as you saw at the end of the video by pouring coolant directly into the radiator hose that goes into the radiator, you don’t want to only have coolant in the gas tank, but in both. Make sure that the engine is cool when you’re doing this, so it doesn’t spray coolant and burn you.
Very helpful video, I followed instructions but I did not disconected the water hoses, I opened the de-gaser canister to release pressure in the system then closed it to keep a vacum, then I did the switch of the sensors as fast as I could and only a few drops spilled that were cleaned very easy with a rag.

Great channel. I subscribed! Had this issue today and these videos explained everything really well. Only recommendation is to edit the comments to ensure people reset the cpu by pulling the negative cable on the battery. Also, for anyone else out there, when removing the small hose from the thermostat housing to get that clamp out of the way, be careful. When removing it the piece my hose was lcamped to may have been on the verge of dry rot, or i didnt have the clamp opened all the way and the nozzle broke off in the house so i had to get a new thermostat housing and install. Oh well, probably good i changed the thermostat anyway :) BTW Danny has a video for that as well :)
Yeah, disconnecting the negative battery cable is covered as the first step in the video, but people comment telling me they didn’t do it as shown and short it out. It’s always a good idea to disconnect the battery when working on anything with an electrical connector but having people follow the instructions is another thing lol

I’m glad you enjoyed it
Definitely the best video on YT for this issue.
After 5 days the problem came back. Going to replace the thermostat next: ruclips.net/video/aEfgkxWdBYw/видео.html
I have the same issue. Replaced the coolant temp sensor, worked great, then about a week later it started up again. Did replacing the thermostat work?

You should be fine if you follow the video. I also have this version that has the thermostat. It can also be bad in most cases. Be sure to unplug the black negative battery terminal when you start as the video shows, and make sure it has cooled down

Awesome video Sir! Nicely done
Hello. Same issue but I changed the sensor and it is still doing the same thing. Any other possible suggestions?
The thermostat can stick open and also cause the fans to run as the temp really is under 160 and the vehicle recognizes it shouldn’t be. ruclips.net/video/aEfgkxWdBYw/видео.htmlsi=DNChAlcUGxf8tB_z
@ thank you. Let me try that then
Excellent video instructions. Thank you.
My 2018 silverado is doing this but no check engine light
You don’t always get a light for it. I’d also consider the thermostat as it’s also a problem when it sticks open and over cools the engine

Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
My husband followed the steps and the Suburban is still having issues with the fan continually running. Is there anything else that he could try? Thank you
I would next check the thermostat ruclips.net/video/aEfgkxWdBYw/видео.htmlsi=DuINHK0LTdIFT6zx
