I was able to replace mine easily, thanks to your video! Let me add that the Grey clips to remove the two breather lines going to the valve covers need to be PUSHED, not pulled. I broke one while trying to figure it out. It still clips back locked when done with repair, but hopefully helps someone else to not break theirs.
I've been dealing with this issue on my 2015 Yukon for a year and a half. I've put 5 thermostats and about 8 sensors in it, replaced the sensor plug...this thing is driving me crazy. Everytime I replace the thermostat and sensor its ok for about 2 months then starts the engine protect mode and gets more and more frequent. Tested the thermostats and they seem to work ok with the boiling water test, sensors seem to work with multimeter testing but once replaced it's only a matter of time until the issue starts. I started carrying a socket to pull the battery cable to reset the computer to buy a little more time and get the ac working again.
@@wecanfixit7308 I did replace the plug, it didn't resolve any of the issues. I'm going to start checking out all the grounds as I've seen other videos mentioning issues with them causing all types of different issues.
@@ncarlen3 grounds could certinly cause weird things. I had a random no start on mine forever that ended up being the negative battery cable. Of course I found this after cleaning every ground on the truck. Good luck!
@@turningwrenches89 I switched my thermostat to a Brian Tooley racing thermostat housing, and the ls3 style thermostat they recommend and to a genuine GM OEM temp sensor and it has made it 98% better. I still think there's an issue somewhere because it occasionally acts up but shutting it off and restarting resets it now

Replaced the thermostat, but mine hose on top does not get hot but blows hot air out of vents and doesn't overheat. the little hoses where u put coolant are hot. What could it be then
So, if the thermostat is changed and the there are still issues like the cooling engine going crazy can it be possible that the water pump could leak coolant ?

great catch, sorry about that!

I’d look at replacing the plug on the sensor, sounds like you could have an issue there, or a chafe in the wire to the ECM possibly.

Same here pull battery cable to
Reset. Any luck?

remember to pull the battery power to kinda reset everything
ask me how i know
Great point, thanks! I used a scan tool, but disconnecting the battery works also.

Good video, brother.
Thank you very much, I'm glad it helped!

that seems unusual. Does it feel like its full of water?
Can the temp gauge make the temp start to rise and fans to kick on high
unlikely, the computer turns the fans on when it detects the issue.
@wecanfixit7308 sorry I mean if the temp sensor is going bad can it make the temp gauge read high and the fans kick on high
So, if the thermostat is changed and the there are still issues like the cooling engine going crazy can it be possible that the water pump could leak coolant ?
it would have to be a huge noticeable leak to uncover the temp sensor enough to create this issue
Im having this issue. Just happened tonight. Mine is a 2016 and 101k miles. 😢
Its an easy fix, good luck!
How did you clear the code?
I have a cheap scan tool that reads/ clears codes
So did it actually fix it?
Yes, once the code was cleared after the repair was made, everything worked as it should.
@@wecanfixit7308 can you give the part numbers you used? I’ve seen where certain parts didn’t fix the issue
@@cagneydavis3528 I linked the parts I used in the description
Hi you think it may just be the coolant temp sensor and can I run it like this till I get around to do this weekend ?
@@Kriscerros should be fine, if your battery is weak, the fans might run it down
Replaced the sensor 6 times.. just did it today.. still getting the fan turning on... ugh!!!
Did you clear the codes? If so, then you've probably got a wiring issue.
It's the thermostat mind was doing the same thing once I changed it everything went back to normal
@@jpowerhands3607 I’d definitely change them both just in case.
