Lure Fishing for Cod & Pollack with Soft Plastics in Winter | Lure Fishing UK

- I've been doing more bait fishing this winter than in previous years and I've been missing the lure fishing. Lure fishing UK in the winter can be hard work but using the correct techniques and tactics can make it really rewarding. So, despite a breezy forecast I packed my lure tackle and headed out for an afternoon of rock fishing over low tide.
Hope you all enjoy👍🎣

Awesome, wife’s just taken the kids to a party and the Slippy notification bell just rang. Today is going to be a good day whoooohh 👍🏻
Nice one!! Hope you enjoyed it!
@SlippyLimpets hi Nathan you ever tried collywell bay / rocky island or at Mary's with the lures be interested in your reply great content 👍
I get the "fear" watching you go up and down those slopes mate. Brilliant ariel footage of the dolphins. 👍
I was really lucky to catch them, I see them a fair bit but it's tricky to fly the drone to the right spot.
Me and you both mate!
@@SlippyLimpets im about to move to UK from HongKong and I love rock mark fishing. But the terrains I found in your channel are terrifying, is there any easier location for a beginner/causal like me?
I've found that the places that people can't reach often fish better than the popular marks, which is why I head down to these places. But don't worry, there are much easier places to fish. Hope you enjoy the fishing over here in the UK!👍🎣
Again another fab video. Thank you. 👍
Super scenic 👍
Great video. Loved the dolphins. Admire your commitment! Thanks for showing how a cheb rig works.
Slippy limpets your vids are so entertaining love the night fishing ones. Been years since I've been out. I've just got all my gear together after being stolen. Hoping for my first bass this year. Keep up the excellent work
Great little winter session. Love the dolphin family..great to see the young ones swimming with the parents....great drone footage. 👍🐟👍🐟👍
I love seeing them too, think i filmed this same pod back in september but the young one's are a little bigger now!
Exellent vid. as usual keep them coming 👌🎣🎣🎣
Thank you so much for this. Classic stuff. Please take care.
My pleasure and will do!
Class mate. You’re The only reason I have a telly these days 🤣👍🏻
Perfect timing, bored out my skull and this pops up! THANK YOU 😊
Haha, my pleasure mate.
Right! Thats inspired me to get out and get some winter lure fishing in.. Well done buddy!
Thanks matey, keep chucking those lures!
Class video
Cracking video, love seeing the dolphins and the coalies in low vis water conditions. Also wanted to say I adore the music in your vids, proper chill out dance, feels like being 20 again and listening to Giles Peterson on BBC R1. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I used to love listening to Giles on Radio 1 but not too keen on his 6 Music show. Prefer Mary Anne Hobs and her Techo Tuesday slot. Banging!
You man just started watching you loving the videos looking at starting you tube myself and your already an inspiration
Never done lure fishing but watching you do it may have inspired me to give it a try
You should give it a go, it's my favourite way to fish
Amazing footage. Love lure fishing with you, from my armchair :-). Thank you again for another inspiring video.
Happy to take you along with me!
Brilliant video mate great to see ya back on the lures and clambering up n down those crazy cliffs, amazing dolphin footage love it when I'm kayaking with em. . . Tight lines 🎣🎣
I've not yet had the pleasure of them joining me on the yak, i bet that's a bit special😍. Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Awesome drone footage as well. Take care m8.
Thanks mate, glad you liked it and, as always thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Another top quality video, really enjoying these mate, keep them up
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully i can keep them coming!
Yay!! Lures and fish!!
Hope you enjoyed it mate
@@SlippyLimpets always, without question.
I can’t wait for lure season - have a plan to head to Cornwall for a long weekend on the lures. 🎣😁👍
Another great video. I loved the opening sequence.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love watching ur chanel 👍🎣
Great stuff as always, the drone footage of the dolphins was amazing.
My days of clambering up and down cliffs are over 😭😭, but I like to watch you doing it for me 😂🐟🎣
i loved the drone footage Nathan it was brilliant , and you did well with the new lures , tight lines
Thanks mate, first time I've used them but they seem pretty good. Going to use them more this summer so hopefully they perform!
Excellent camera work! The quality of your vids just gets better👍🏼
Thanks you, really appreciate that!👍🎣
lures are very lifelike and the pliers are fantastic.
Those pliers are the best fishing item I own 😄
Well done mate 👍
Loved your first talk show bro 👍🎣🏴
Thanks dude!! Tight lines👍🎣
Top video & drone footage 🎣
Thanks mate!
Another cracking video 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
great video, loved the authenticity. take care on those rocks buddy.
Glad you liked it and will do👍🏻🎣
Awesome. Watch the sky from 20:30 to 21:00. Couple of UFO lights appears a few times...
You're not the first person to mention that, I think it's a helicopter but you just never know
Slippy limpets uploaded. You what, presses play and gets a fix of sofa Sunday fishing. Thanks mate 👍
As always, it's my pleasure and hoped you enjoyed your fix!
@@SlippyLimpets definitely mate it's like the crack cocaine of fishing 🤣🤣
Brilliant thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
Great video mate as usual 👍🏻 off out myself this weekend for some cod or Pollock. Tight lines
Fantastic vid
Well done sir
And thanks for sharing
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Brilliant video as always mate. You've encouraged me to get my lure fishing gear out for a January session.
Tight lines 👍
Nice one! Hope you got amongst the fish! Winter lure fishing can be tough but I've found the pollack are at their fattest at this time.
@@SlippyLimpets it was definitely tough mate. Sadly no fish as of yet, I had a couple of seals stalking the mark I was at.
Going to try somewhere new tomorrow.
Keep up the great work, tight lines 👍
Great Video as always and some nice fish caught,I agree with you that any fish caught is well worth it,,Enjoyed ,Ally
Thanks Ally, and as always, thanks for watching!! Hope you're keeping well
Just found time to watch your latest video, what an effort and dedication you have 👍loved every minute of it, well !! Maybe not the climbing which made certain parts of my body twitch, superb drone footage, brilliant.
Not sure if I want to koenehic parts of your anatomy twitched😂 gladnyou liked it!
Thats some climb that buddy great video again keep up the hard work. untill the next one take care tight lines
It is but worth the effort! Tight lines mate👍🎣
Some lovely footage there well in mate👍
Thanks mate!
Film quality is superb....crackin scenery and the dolphins were boss...nanny goat stuff getting down there again....well deserved fish Nathan
Thanks Kevin, glad you liked. Never get bored of seeing those dolphins!
Happy new year Nathan. Great start to the year 😁👍🐟
Happy New Year to you too. As always, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Great video drone footage brilliant 👏

Great video your a braver man than me on those cliffs
Glad you liked it 👍🏻🎣
no way you get me walking up there with my beach buddy on my shoulder
good video every time mate
Nice place 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Thank you. It is a great place to fish!
fantastic video
Thanks 👍
Brilliant, brilliant video as usual and as said before I think you must be part mountain goat for going up and down those rocks. Tight Lines .
WOW! January lure fishing RESULT!
Not sure Id risk my life for it but well done you.
Wasn't that much of a risk but always worth a bit of effort to catch a fish or two
💜👍💜👍...you got a good head for hights 👍. Great drone footage👍👍👍
20 odd years of climbing has helped me out, means I can get to marks that people don't normally fish
Such dedication slippy limpet
Got to make the most of the fishing time available!
Epic descent to a fishing mark, and stopping to launch a drone. Hell, it was worth it though, captured those dolphins brilliantly and so professionally. Well done with the new lures. Man, that climb back up, friggin mountain goat blood you've got running through your veins. Looking forward to your kayak videos this year. Till then, tight lines mate.
Thank you! I'm starting to get a bit paranoid about the goat comments, maybe I should get a DNA test😂 definitely will be getting out on the yak more this year, felt like I neglected it last year. Thanks again and tight lines👍🎣
Love your videos slippy limpet….. outstanding video footage too
Thank you, really appreciate your comment👍🎣
Great video as allways slippy limpets
Thank you👍
Nathan you must have a set of trotters on ya like a mountain goat brother the way you bouncing down them rock ends 😉 cracking sesh mate 👍
Not sure about trotters but having size 11 shoes help with grip😂
Slippery limpets keep the videos coming
Will do mate!
Another great video 😀 loved the drone shots of the dolphin pod at the start.
Would love to see an off the water video of your kayak? Gear, equipment, tackle etc have managed to get an order in for a Viking reload from one of their last shipments before the fire
There was a fire? Reload, nice boat! I'm looking to do a walk through this year. I neglected the yak last year so need to make up for it this year!
Cracking footage I was up there Friday gone I give the cave a go no Pollock or cod plenty Cole's ended up with about 8 tight lines m8
The pollack drought continues, I wonder where they've gone. At least the coalies offer a bit of sport. Tight lines 👍🎣
slippy limpets,gret videos,nice camera work.
Thanks!
You're the legend lad, like a mountain goat. These days, I have trouble walking to the end of my local pier without falling!
I'll keep going as long as I can!
Are you sure your not a mounting goat in disguise I think you are going down those slops, great video and not a blank, and the footage watching the dolphins great thanks again for taking me stay safe tight lines
As far as I'm aware I'm fully human and no goat in sight!😂As always Liz, thanks for coming along.
Another cracking video. Drone footage was amazing. We get a lot of dolphins around west Wales. The decent looked a bit precarious. 🙈🎣
Thanks Ian. It's a little steep but not too bad!
Reminded me of a great line in the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales. … We shall endeavour to persevere!
I've seen it, love a Clint film! Great saying, maybe I should put that on a T shirt. Thanks for your comment!
Fab! Getting my lure kit ready for the 2022 campaign here on the south coast. May even get out this month if the new braid arrives in time 😂😂
Love the pre-season prep. What braid have you bought?
@@SlippyLimpets I've gone with Diawa J-Braid again. Worked really well for me last year, so have confidence in it for this season 👍
@@273cms it's good stuff, I use it on my beach fishing FS and multi's
Who else would to see a slippy limpet and fish locker Collaboration
That would be pretty cool
The vis for this time of the year is amazing. There has to be plenty of feed in the area, to support a pod that size?... Some sport with coalies, great, better than a blank... Excellent video, Stay Safe
It wasn't bad but I've had better, the water up there clears really quickly, as long as long you stay away from the estuaries. As always, thanks for watching and the comment!
God video. Hi from Greece.😊
Hello in Greece! Glad you liked it 👍🏻
You thought about some studs for those boots? Seen you slipping all over the place lol
Supatracks sell the best-grip brand studs. Size 1100 works for me all over the east coast of Scotland. Pair of cheap Dunlop safety boots from sports direct and a pack of twenty studs. They don’t fall out, unlike other brands which are just hex head self tapping screws
I've had some spikes before but found they gave no warning if they did slip. They were the hex type, though, so might give those Supatracks a go. Cheers for the info!
Good going, even if it was only a few “shit fish” showing. Cracking bit of footage of those dolphins with their young.
Thanks mate. Those shit fish help keep you going when the fishing is poor
Nothing wrong with a few Coalies on lures mate, nice one.
You're right mate, Good enough to keep me entertained!
Blank busting coalies. A pain some times but sesh savers the next, just wished they were twice the size. Clarity was good over the weekend, hope you got out. If not the northerlies this week should be tempting.
Cheers
You're right about the coalies, I've seen John Locker pull a 4lb'er in and I bet it gave a hell of a scrap. I was actually trying to catch a perch this weekend so will be hitting the northerlies this week.
Always think it’s weird how here on Isle of Man I fish almost the same ground but we get barely any coalies just pollock after pollock!
Should come over sometime soon !! 🎣
I neverncatch them on the west coast either! I'd stick with the pollack, the coalies never get much bigger than the ones I landed in this vid
Nice video ,,,Big big improvements in your video editings really shappoo !!...you just need a boat to take it further 👍
Thanks mate. I like boat fishing but love fishing from the shore more, means you can really focus on how to fish certain spots and improve techniques. Boat fishing tends to be a lot more vertical jigging which isn't quite as much fun
🎣🎣
I've had a lot of Pollock on the green silver HTO Schluggs, look very similar to yours.
That colour combination is lethal, very natural. Not tried the Schluggs but might get a pack and add to the collection.
Excellent video, a bit hairy at times on those slopes, thanks for sharing, keep them coming
Thanks, the descent was a little bit slippier than usual but not too bad!
Great video mate, dolphin drone footage was awesome 👌 👏 would love to see you doing some salt water fly fishing, you would have great fun off some of those rock marks and on the beaches for bass. If you fancy it I will send you some of the flies I tie for it 😉
I've tried it a couple of times but no success. One of my goals is to catch a bass of 5+lb on the fly so will keep trying
@@SlippyLimpets defo doable especially on a Northumberland beach with a good surf on.
Really? I've only caught schoolies in northumberland, but then I've not put that much time in to it
@@SlippyLimpets they are around, big surf and fish a sandeel pattern or lure or even bait if you want. Seen a few decent ones get caught.
Love the fishing part of your video, just the climbing part made me feel a bit dizzy ;-)
Sorry about that!
Stunning intro Nathan, the other 29 minutes weren’t bad either! I have them pliers, wouldn’t be without them now. What new rod will you be getting? You should do a video on how you make videos, many of us would find that of interest Im sure.
Thanks John, glad you liked it. I love them even after only using them once. Looks like they've just brought out a saltwater edition in the USA, so hoping they make it over here. It's an idea but I'd be worried about showing my competition ( mainly Fish Locker😉) how to make videos.
Oh, I forgot to answer your question...I've ordered a Tailwalk Light Gamer TZ 88ml, not cheap at all but thought I'd treat my self. Ordered it at the back end of November through Art of Fishing so hoping it might arrive any day soon🤞
Hello Nathan thanks for the new video and info on the safety aspects, can you tell us the make and model of the radio you are using please?
It's a Cobra HH500 VHF, great model because it can connect to your phone via Bluetooth and make and take calls. It floats as well for a bit of extra convenience. Hope this helps
new follower loving all the vids just starting this type of fishing getting lots help n ideas have u got some spots northumberland way would the beacons be a gd starting area for a beginner
Nice one! welcome to the channel. There's a canny few mark, not tried the beacons with lures but it's got deep water close in, so worth a shot. Beadnell, dunstaburgh, Cresswell skeers, sea houses are all good. Just need to find deep water close to shore.
Looked like a good bit of sport on that gear. I see what you mean about it being like a fly rod lol. You planning on fishing the Amble open this Sunday Nathan? Should be a canny turnout. Tight lines
It just keeps bending, all the way down to the reel seat! I don't really do matches, I must admit, I don't really like the idea of taking fish just for the sake of a competition.
Cracking video as always pal 👍🏻 can you recommend a decent lure rod/reel combo for bass ?
Depends on your budget really, lower end of the scale there's a Maximus Hi-energy rod and a Penn Wrath reel. MId range there's the Shimano Dialuna S90ML or Tailwalk Hi-Tide SSD 90ml rods and shimano sustain, vanford of my favourite Diawa BG Mag Sealed. The money just gets silly from there, shimano exsence (700 quid), Tailwalk Hi-Tide TZ, Apia rods and Daiwa cerate or shimano twin power reels. I hope that helps a bit
You don't half go down some sketchy sloapy cliffs mate..I'm always nervous watching you...ohhh and are you sure you didn't miss read the weather report too....its wasn't 0% of it being dry was it? 🤣 another great video mate...keep them coming 🎣👍
Haha, I think you could be right there! Either that I missed 10 off the front of the o%
@@SlippyLimpets 🤣🤣
Great video as always, thank you - which leads are you using? They look like they have a slot machined in them to allow the clip through?
They're called cheburaska or chebs for short. The have a built in clip so you can change weight or hook easily and the allow the hook to move more freely than a tradition texas rig
All we can tell you about the weather in Scotland is it will be 0% chance of sun 🌞
Haha, yeah it's true.
Eyup Nathan. There's now wrong with Coalies is there and Dolphins are always a joy. If you don't post for a while I'll know you've gone down like a Gannet. Keep yer feet steady and I'll sithi after, Dave.
Good analogy Dave, they always come back up!
@@SlippyLimpets Innit?
👍
Great video, fantastic camera work. Looks a beautiful place. Any chance of listing the the rod and reel your using I'm new to fishing.
Thanks, Stuart, glad you liked it. I always list my main tackle in the description, but to save you looking I was using a Major Craft Concept, 8ft, 5 to25g rod and a 2500 daiwa BG magsealed reel. Hope this helps
Slippy limpets
Nice! I tend to give up on the plastics in the winter when the vis drops... what would you say was the vis there? >1m? We might scrape that here in the winter after a couple of calm days
Yeah it was around 30cm to 1 metre. I find metals work on their day, but the trick for me in the winter is to fish as slowly as possible, and plastics are great for that
Weather forecasters still puzzle me to this day.
It appears to be the only job on the planet where you can often get it wrong and yet still stay employed.
😁
Haha, it's a good point! I might re-train as a meteorologist
@@SlippyLimpets let me know if you do.
Id rather trust an anglers forecast than the met office!
😁😂🤣😁
@@karlstokes874 😄 will do, I'll get an alert forecast app sorted!
Interesting comment about the usefulness of radio. Maybe you've covered this in an earlier video, but do you have a marine VHF licence, or would you TX on the basis that a licence would be the least of your concerns should it come to that? I think many of us would go with the latter (I have a ham licence but not marine VHF).
You need a license to own a marine VHF, which is free it's just a registration. But you don't need to do the course if it's only for emergency use.
I never get any luck on lures, maybe the area I'm fishing 🎣
There will be fish there, just need to find the right lures and technique. Keep chucking and changing up and you'll find them👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets Thanks for your reply, will try that when the weather gets a little warmer 👍🎣
Always easier when the water temp increases.
Do coalies stink? Can't say I've noticed but maybe I'll have a sniff when I'm out next.
Would really love to see a budget set up challenge
That I can do. What sort of budget are you thinking?
Low end maybe £50 all in. Love you're content keep it up!
£50 challenge
Watched your lure fishing for cod and pollock what are the lights in the sky between 20:40 and 22:00
I think it's a helicopter, there was on buzzing around for a while
Awesome bro 🥰
Wich rod your using?
Thanks dude! The rod is a Majort Craft PE Concept CRS-802PE/L. It's old but a great rod for soft plastics
