I appreciate that focus mode will even highlight "circumstancial weak points" in addition to the player made wounds. That'll be useful for learning when monsters really open up for damage.
OH MY GOD THEY FIXED TENDERISING MECHANIC AND MADE IT BEAUTIFUL
@@ZAH33D Not really, I too hope it's not there but what they showed here is just that you can visually see circumstancial weakspots now, aswell as weakspots when breaking a limb, not tenderized spots. No new way to add weakspots, just a way to see them better now
@@SalamanderPreston Yes new way to add weakspots, keep hitting em until it hurts.
@@SalamanderPreston You can add temporary weak spots without part breaks by attacking a single area repeatedly in Wilds.
@@SigmaGuardian66 Where did you get that info? This video didn't suggest that you could create temporary wounds. Have they given out more clarifying info elsewhere?
This is a cool change to tenderise
For a long time I was curious why they didn't implement something like wounds. If u hunt a big monster why wouldn't it bleed and have wounds from your attacks?
You could go so far and say: if u wound a monster to bad the materials are worse or less at the end. You slay it faster but at a cost.
Ye that's just me probably but I like immersion
@@leonidasvonspartayeah if were talking immersion why the hell do i get a tail when i carve the darn things head then??

0:40 Creating weak points is a reward for consistently hitting the monster rather than an action that takes you out of the core loop like clutch claw.
0:52 First footage of LS focus mode attacks.
While I'm a bit apprehensive that this confirms that "tenderizing" will still be a thing (under wounds), I'm glad the mechanic has been reworked to be a part of normal weapon attacks rather than bound to the slinger
This isn't really like tenderize, a lot of monsters already had a mechanic where you could break a part to deal more damage to it. This just makes it easier to see.
it's... different
Focus mode makes sense now, definite upgrade from the clutch claw
@@The_Jho yea I know some were worried about it so I hope this starts to relieve concerns people have. Basically it looks to be a special stance you go into to be able to perform special attacks combined with giving you additional freedom with aiming the direction of attacks and your placement. Overall looks promising
@@buttersidedown5905Similar style to aiming with the Insect Glaive, and marking parts of the monster with powders.
Not a fan of clutch claw and the tenderize mechanics. Ruined my combat's flow.
Still, I persevered through Iceborne and fully completed it. Got both platinums on PS4.
Decided to replay it from scratch. This time on the PC. Gonna be using mods so I don't have to rely on clutch claw and tenderize.
Clutch claw was an annoying mechanic that was basically MANDATORY late game. Slowed down combat massively. This is a massive upgrade and seems way more fun, at least right now.
@@Abedeuss I dunno man, this just seems like the Anomaly hitzones with extra hard work to see them. At least with the clutch claw you could define your own hit zone for the next 2-3 minutes.
And if the way you activate focus mode is really jank, like you can't use it mid attack or while being sheathed, this has the potential to be a really, really sucky gimmick imo.
I mean, this will be mandatory late game too. The hit zone there is literally giving a 23% damage increase.
You're killing me showing this so early.
@@TubiTuesdays you'll be fine, mission number 1. Survive this year
i believe videos like this for world were shown 6 months ahead of time. so if anything this is a sign we are getting it in January or February
@@espada7997 ENDURE STRUGGLER
back when Wilds was first announced I guessed that it would be released between February and March because MH games always seem to release in the first quarter of the year, or close to it. And now I'm really confident the guess I made like 3 months ago seems very likely.
Plus, this also gives them time to do some kind of in-game event or something in March for The 21st anniversary of Monster Hunter, beyond the stuff they will do outside of the game.
@easternanomaly Yeah it's basically confirmed that they will release it at the very least by March. There was a shareholder meeting, and they said that they wanted a profit before the end of the fiscal year.
SnS is getting a repositioning attack like the CB 🤯🤯🤯
That move seems to be inspired by Rise’s sliding slash switch skill and Frontier’s storm style, maybe we will also get more returning moves too.
That and the smaller in combo repositioning sidestep. I'm just assuming that one won't get any i-frames but having mid combo movement options is quite neat.
Always hated it in Rise. Its so slow and ruining SnS's flow of combat.
Yeah! Praise the SNS!
infinite combo just got even more infinite since you can now follow the monster😆
0:39 Yep, the tenderizing mechanic introduced in Iceborne is indeed back. Same symbole on the damage number. Same damage increase (0.75 x hitzone + 25 = tenderized hitzone, here 0.75 x 55 + 25 = 66.25 ~ 68). Although, this time, it is not created from the clutch claw, but from repeatedly attacking the same part, meaning it will not break the flow of combat, we will just need to be more methodical/precise in attacking the monsters. I just hope it doesn't mean we will have monsters with mostly bad hitzones like in Iceborne. Funny how most players (including me) were saying that the clutch claw was not the problem in Iceborne, the tenderizing mechanic was. Capcom's response: scrap the clutch claw, bring back the tenderizing mechanic.
Well, I'd argue that it's more along the lines of "scrap the clutch claw, make the tenderizing mechanic actually good." I hope they give good circumstantial weak points/openings because I think they have a lot of fun potential as long as they are usable. I don't expect every opening to be usable by every weapon, but I just hope it's good.
@@strcmdrbookwyrm I think the reason the clutch claw was hated was that it was clunky, yet, because of the tenderizing mechanic and Iceborne being balanced around it, it was necessary to use it every 90s (45s for light weapons), else our damages were severely nerfed (hitzones from base World to Iceborne being nerfed, WE being nerfed so we only got the full effect on tenderized parts). Without the tenderizing mechanic (and maybe the wallbang being balanced to do 0.5-1% the HP of the monsters instead of 2%), players would have been neutral at worst toward the clutch claw because it would have been optional/circumstantial. Don't like the clunkiness of it? Don't use it. At least, we would have an option if a monster flies too much or if Kulve Taroth and Alatreon do their floor is lava/ice attacks. Lance's clutch counter and the Switch Axe being able to ZSD from the clutch claw were good additions. The tenderizing mechanic instead turned the clutch claw into a necessary hitzones micromanagement, forcing us to break the flow of combat, much like having to sharpen (and unlike sharpness management, there was no alternative, once the monsters were no longer tenderized, either we stopped to clutch claw tenderize or we dealt nerfed damages: a lose-lose situation from which stemmed most, if not all, the frustration about the clutch claw).
Clutch claw was the problem. not Tenderizing.
You fools thought you could post at three in the morning and I wouldn’t notice. But I did! Because sleep is for the weak!
Real. Imagine sleeping
It's not 3 in the morning in everywhere, the world doesn't revolve around America as much as you think it does especially for a Japanese game.
Heck yeah fellow hunter!

@@GamingRobioto lil bro it's a joke
I really like the idea of the wounds system. Really encapsulates a big part of hunting stories. "He got away, but I got him real bad behind the knee" and your friend gets there and kills him by capitalizing on your hit. Depending how Wilds is structured that could make some absolutely legendary stories. Or at least some good moments
same here, I think it's much cooler, more dynamic, and more interesting than "tenderizing" with the clutch claw was. now you get rewarded for continued aggression and precision rather than being forced to engage with a gimmick
Not to mention it also adds to the immersion of carving the monster up mid-fight. Sure, you could already do that before with tails and broken parts, but now even the smaller hits will have a visual effect.
I did used to wonder "I just chopped off its tail, now it's got a massive gaping exposed wound, why shouldn't that be where I should hit it"...and now, it probably is!
@@therighttrousers343 I think it also was back then? it did extra damage to hit broken parts, and even more so if you had weakness exploit.
@@dylanenriguehuntington2908certain monsters had this mechanic, but I can't think of many or any at all that had severed tails become weakpoints. And weakness exploit doesn't necessarily just proc on broken parts, only if that broken part becomes a weak point, like Uragaan's chin for example.

that sword was forged from plesioth’s hips so i see no issue
I think they disabled the flash effect when the hits connected for promotional materials, so that we can have a clearer view of what's going on.

Having more generous hitboxes for your weapons compared to how easily an enemy can hit you is a common game design approach.

MONSTER HUNTERRRRRER 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
I love this tenderizing mechanic so much more than the Clutch Claw.
CC was janky, I often didn't end up where I wanted to be, and it felt like I could be shaken off by a stiff breeze despite the LARGE CLAW. Plus, clinging to a monster and swinging a giant weapon awkwardly a few times tenderizing an entire limb felt odd.
This both rewards precision and feels natural - hitting the same spot repeatedly is going to weaken the tough skin.
The focused mode attack for great sword looks so damn satisfying to use, running around WHILE slashing is so cool

Combat looking like it'll be more precise. Definitely hyped up! 🔥
Wounding does sound like a better rework than the tenderize attack! I hated having to launch clutch to tenderize every once in a while, it just felt disruptive to the flow of the battle, and leaves the hunter vulnerable to attack. It feels more logical too, in a hunt you repeated attack the same spot to penetrate the hide/scale of a monster.
just being able to rotate with Greatsword is already a blessing
The fact that concentration mode will show "circumstantial weak points" in addition to player-inflicted injuries is really appreciated. That will help you figure out when monsters actually become vulnerable to damage.
Calling it now, people will complain that the new mechanics make the game too easy and then they release a DLC where weak points are in the most pain in the ass spots to hit and the monsters constantly punish you for going for them.
Nah these mechanics are ok. I don’t think they make the game easy. Remember the stronger monsters wont just stand there 😂
basically the clutch claw mechanic, but it seamlessly intrgrated into the game play and not forcing you to stop your attack and grab the moneter face. amazing

This is amazing! Aimable attacks, new moves for all weapons, no lock on, no clutch claw! Holy shit !!!
Lock on was a good thing, so hope they somewhat keep it to some degree in wilds.
Aimable attacks are a bridge too far imo.
Having to plan out your positioning and commit to your attack was one of the core aspects of MH combat. We’ll see how they build around it, but so far I’m not crazy about this personally.
@@Keyring7031same feels like pandering to casuals that got used to Souls lock on and can't into positioning, I really hope the game isn't built around the inclusion of focus mode.
@Keyring7031 A "core aspect" that only applied to a third of the weapons, generously.
@@Mare_Man even if that were true, that’s what sets those weapons apart from the other ones. I just think that making something like the greatsword a lot more mobile kind of defeats the point.
You’re free to disagree though
yall need to focus mode on that frame rate
Expect the game to run as bad as Dragon's Dogma 2 did
@@Xerzene i dont know why they cant just get it the fuck together.
The graphics are maxed out....well it looks like it, we still have at the very minimum 6 more months to go by before the game is fully out so let's hope to God the frame rate improves.
@@XerzeneDS2 performance was actually good the issue was the massive main city.
You explained this so well, thank you!
Love the people at Capcom who somehow I dont know how listened. And made more gritty movements than fantastical.
Ive been asking for this.
I’m not so sure how I feel about the “hit the glowing weak spot” type of gameplay. I preferred having to learn about the monsters and understand them to know their weaknesses, but this is 100x better than clutch claw tenderize
I mean, unless they strip out tons of core mechanics in the game for no reason, monsters will still have all of their normal weaknesses and hitzone values. This is just a additional mechanic on top of it all. We had something similar with Sunbreak's endgame and it felt like a fun way to engage with the hunt even more, so I'm pretty hyped tbh.
It only becomes a glowing weakpoint when you hit it enough so you still have to know what parts to hit to efficiently get that
Why is knowing the weak points a bad thing? 95% of monsters are weakest in the head and most people should already know that, and you can literally see weak points in the journal, and especially if we're getting more niche weakspots like the tongue it's really nice to notice because I'd have made the assumption it's just lumped in with the head hitbox.
@@raven_knight_076 I really enjoy having to learn about the monsters as you play. Yes, the head is almost always a weak spot (which I would critique as a con) but also it's typically more risky to attack the head. It's awesome when you learn monster weaknesses by hunting and gaining experience. This makes you feel like a veteran hunter as your knowledge grows. Highlights showing weak spots all the time make combat very simple and take away the immersion of learning the monster. If it only shows during focus mode that may be ok, but how much of the hunt will we be in focus mode?
I want to see unique weak spots with effects on monster behavior. We can learn how different breakpoints can be utilized in combat and learn to attack different spots for different reasons as we gain experience with a monster. I don't want to be shown this, I want the immersion and reward of learning it.
@@VadeInSpiritu I think that the glowing weak spot is just a necessity of game design, and that it'll only break your immersion if you let it.
My theory is that focus mode will limit your movement when activated, allowing you to aim better instead. So I think this translate well, as it's basically your hunter slowing down and focusing their mind and energy on finding gaps and openings in the monster's armor and attacks. I think the only reason why it glows is so that we as the players can quickly see those weak spots.
As for if weak spots will be different for different monsters, I think they will be. My money is that they'll start showing up when a monster becomes enraged and/or undergoes a "form change". A good example would be the Gore Magala's feelers: They only come out when they are enraged and switch attack patterns and hitting them or the head enough will knock Gore out of that state. I think the weak points will show up in situations like that, but the monsters won't have to have dramatic tells to show those weak points like Gore does.
The game overall looks great, but this is really dumbing down the greatsword.
The whole point of the weapon is a high risk, positioning based, with high reward.
You have to be good with your positioning and timing, otherwise youll miss and be punished.
Dumbing down the need to commit to a position just makes the weapon way less satisfying. Which is kinda the whole point of using a greatsword.
This may be fine for other weapons, but they should maintain what makes this weapon so rewarding in the first place.
Difficult to land attacks that feel awesome when you line everything up correctly
It seems like focus mode has a different move set to your basic attacks so I imagine the heavy hitters won't be usable in focus
@gloriousporpoise9731 after looking at the greatsword vid, I think you have a point.
And Having a beginner friendly mode that is worse than the normal mode is fine. Just want to avoid a rise rage slash situation, because that combined with the tackle made greatsword less fun for me
At the very least it looks like whiffing at point blank won't be as prolific
@@gloriousporpoise9731 I hope GS focus mode has at least ONE new attack. I feel like it got left behind for this game.

53:00 Ah yes gunlance my love, can't wait.
A random 1 minute video explaining a new mechanic I will soon forget? …Hell yeah!
Genuinely hate this focus mode gimmick. Positioning and committing to attacks is the very core of MH gameplay, but now you can just turn mid swing. But yeah, let's just focus on the casual players that won't even play this game for 20 hours before moving onto the next game.
Its better then trying to hit a specific part but you’re getting pushed around by the monster :/
My guy show me one swing in this video that changed direction after beginning. And the slide the sns did didn't change mid attack, that was a second attack.
Nah man you're coping. I play since MH3 and being able to simply TURN AROUND during GS charge is great... it's great and it just made sense
1. Aiming reticle? Amazing. Instant declunkification
2. Extra attacks? Splendid. Yet more gameplay depth
3. Making the monster's weak spots glow bright red? Unnecessary and unimmersive. Wouldn't it make more sense to reward players for actually using their eyes instead of pressing a button?
I don't think it's that bad but I can see where you're coming from. It's definitely a step towards appealing to a less sweaty audience
Tbf they're not visible while not focusing and I can imagine most pro players only going into focus mode to instantly do a focus attack then keeping themselves unfocus so the camera is zoomed out and they can see the monsters and surroundings better
I'm guessing it glows red to differentiate it from part breaks
Really appreciate the insights in this video.
I adore the GS Focus Strike's extreme brutality.
Wow!!! I love it! When you fight you look at enemy and not wait for claws in your back;)
Fucking love this approach to MH, can't wait
Fantastic way to make the "tenderizing mechanic" from World fit into the flow of battle instead of being separate from it. They can increase overall hp pools for monsters, lower the effectiveness of random MP hunts, while increasing personal satisfaction all with this change. Now I just have to hope the system requirements aren't too high (If I can't play with 60fps on low settings with a 3060ti I'll be damned).
So if I get this right, there is no lock onto your target anymore? Honestly, I think that a good change, and to have attacks (and parry (if someone should ever use them)) to be aimed where your camera is facing is a very good alternative. Promotes skill without making it too easy like you had with constant lockon to your target
Very well done, appreciate this video!
