I have to say I watch a lot of your videos and they are the best on RUclips so straight forward and most of them work for me beech fishing in Ireland thank you so much keep them coming
This is exactly the kind of fishing I do here on the west coast of Norway. I came from a coarse fishing background in the UK but found the freshwater fishing in my area a bit lacking. I started using dropshot, Texas and cheb rigs in the fjords and instantly started catching wrasse, pollock, cod and even hake. I've slowly beefed up my rigs to the level you're showing here and it's so much fun! Nothing beats sight-fishing cod in crystal clear water with a Texas rig and watching that big beast make that final turn for the lure...
Really good info also I've been using a rubber bead between the swivel and lead... in the USA they use a glass bead to attract the fish..... And how many of the watchers are online looking for a weight called an Arf... You can take the man out of yorkshire......😂😂
Nice video John.. I also find with texas rigging. As you slide the worm on the angle by the eye.. Slide the lure over the eyelet as it will. Protect the knot and also the lure won't slip off as easy when using and getting takes etc.. Hto and gamakatsu 1/0 and 2/0 worm hooks are fab for senkos and alike.. Smaller gape and lots more landed fish I find.. Loverly explanation on the video bud.. Love to the family 🙏🏻
Absolutely spot on ..no messing and concise .....so much into so little time but leaving enough time to absorb....don’t want to take up politics do you ....it’s what the masses crave 🤪🤪. Hopefully I will be bringing my little smoker craft down to Devon and Cornwall this year ..I need to get out desperately ....if I see you around I’ll buy you a pint ....thanks for all your time and efforts ...be good andy Thomas 👍🇬🇧
Been waiting for you to do something on this line been fishing for years but going to concentrate on lrf this year as my specialist fish hunt cheers again john 👍
Thanks John, just been making some Texas, Carolina & drop shot rigs ready for my holiday in Cornwall in August🐟 Great video with lots of helpful tips, I think I've finally got the hang of tying the Palomar & uni knots 😄🎣🥽👍
I've learned more off you and your videos team than I've learned in 40 odd years of fishing. John...why aren't you on mainstream TV fella? Series on Discovery with the fishing and foraging and cooking. It's John Wilson, Ray Mears and Rick Stein rolled into one. ❤
Absolutely brilliant vid, well explained and a pleasure to watch. Going to give this a go this year. Watched it twice as I could listen to you for hours. Cheers John
Great video John. I live in the upper Midwest in the states and use a drop shot rig a lot for Smallmouth bass it’s a great rig but it is truly deadly when used for Walleye when they are in the weeds.
Great tutorial video thanks John. I'd heard of these rigs apart from the Carolina, but never looked into them. Clear concise very helpful instructions. Thanks again for the info about your Check fleecy hoodie - mine arrived and I was very pleased with it, but the sizes are a bit tight, so Mrs T has nicked mine and I've had to order another one! 😁😁 Stay safe & well. 👍👍

been watching for a while now and enjoying the content. using all you are showing in this video except the lunker city sandeel. But just ordered them! 😊👍🏼
Hey ;) nice video this is my favorite rig setups i use every season, I will recommend you to put some type of glowing pearl on the line between the knot and the bullet to protect the knot.
8 9nce got told u can't catch small fish 9n big hooks I immediately changed my carp setups from size 6 to size 4 or even 2 the result I caught way less bream same amount of carp but way less bream win and proof that this is true 👍👍
Hi John - many thanks for your very informative videos which I do enjoy watching vwry much with my grandson when he is with me - QUESTION - what is the knot in this lure? I am a very experienced fly fisherman now learning in my 80s to fish from the sea Andrew
Great vlog we've All gone American style with the soft plastic baits 😉👍 They bloody work thats why! I made a killing on a bumper bargain offer on Gulp alive shads, rag worms, minnows etc, etc that was a long time before the technique caught on here in Denmark seems everyone is in on it now 🙄😅 Great vlog 👍
Thanks John, this has really given me food for thought, esp. re. the dropshot, bright colours for Wrasse and the palomar knot. One small thing, would have been nice to hear about the advantages/disadvantages of each rig and why you might use one as opposed to the other.. 🎣🦖

iv known about 2 of those for a while but not Carolina rigging, think I'll give that a go for Pollock when i can get out on the boat again, if also seen Americans go super heavy on drop shotting gear for massive cod but in seriously deep water
Great tips, caught two nice Cod today. Biggest around 6 kg, filled with roue. Good stuff. I ordered a 15 foot (30-100g) rod. Will it do the trick for surfcasting? Cheers
Great video - really useful, but 1 question, why don’t you use beads between the know and the weight? Have seen elsewhere that this protects the knot from wear. Is this not an issue, in your opinion?
Excellent video after 40 years of fishing thought it was time to try lure fishing What would be an ideal rod for lure and float fishing )up to an ounce float say ) should I be looking at a 60 gram rod to cover both
fishy 0000 the trick with drop shotting is to fish to features such as locks and overhanging trees etc anywhere that may hold fish. It is not the ideal method for searching the canal for fish which can be quite localised particularly in winter. I tend to fish small jigs etc to search for the fish then switch to dropshotting once I have located the fish. Hope this helps.
Great video i hope to do a bit of this type of fishing off the boat if we ever get back out this year i got the nomoura spinning rod last year ready but not been able to get out since
Really helpful and well presented videos, for which congrats and many thanks. Quick question about Carolina rig- you mentioned casting out and different retrieve methods, but would you try that with beachcaster and long retrieve back to the beach or were you thinking only bass/spinning rod type casts? Never quite sure how lure fishing sits with bait casting idea that lead should not be moved about too much by tide/current. Thx
I am currently restoring a vintage aluminum fishing tackle box from the 1960's. The drawers were lined in plastic, but over time the lures that were in place, the plastic oiled lures literally ate through the plastic. I wonder what they are constructed of and if we could create a more environment friendly biodegradable alternative.
Brilliant videos and good useful content, I love making my own rigs and watched you catching the flounder from the beach, my question is if you make a flounder rig and use a series of beads on the hook length owe do you keep them in place. Thanks
Great video John, wacky rigging (side hooking) can also be deadly on Carolina rigs even though it looks daft. Also have you ever used Z man lures? They are not the cheapest but very durable and can withstand being ripped up by wrasse and most importantly are very buoyant which can make them deadly on Carolina rigs where they can be fished suspended off the bottom. Thanks for the content mate.
Brilliant mate I've never had a go at targeting rass before and wasn't sure what rigs I need to use ect but now I do 😁😁 thanks very much. Would you say the lures do better then Say using live rag worms? Could you use thees rigs with rag or would you need a diftent rigs?
@@thefishlockerworkshop must give it a try the next time I'm out, cheers for replying John! Was just curious, my father dropped in a box of smallish lures (heaviest I found is barely over an ounce). The lightest rod I have is a carp rod I use for mackerel so was thinking having two or three on at once would have enough weight on it to get a good flick out with it. I suppose trial and error is how you learn...
Nice one. Don't get many days to use these from shore on the East Yorks coast and have yet to snag a fish texas style... this year!! Question... what do you use to store yr rigs and hooklengths? I'm sick of my lure boxes being a mess of taffled line
Cheap (well, mine were, Wifey got them from work!) 10cm square self seal bags. I can use a marker pen to write the contents on them, and they store in the mesh pocket of my tackle bag!
Hello John, Once you have made up your rigs how do you store them, do you use the round foam winders like for bait rigs or do you have a different method?
Hi fishlocker. Great videos mate, I find them very helpful The float rig that you use for livebaiting, would you be able to tell me what float you use ( and where to buy ) and also how you set the depth please? Regards, Josh.
Thanks John, I’m from South Africa and can mainly only fish for bass, so use a lot of plastics with finesse style. But I’m having problems getting bites on a few local ponds. Bank fishing mainly but the bigger ones seem to be beyond cast length in the middle. Any advice on what to use? Thanks
Drilled ball would probably be fine provided there's no rough edges catching the line. I've often used spark plugs and bolts for weights, the fish didn't seem to mind
Does the locked in lead have to be the type with the hole through the middle or can it be the type with the loop on as I can not find any 2 ounce versions anywhere?
Awesome video John . What are the chances of snap being broken or snapped by heavy fish. Are there any guides to lead , or is 3/8 ounces the standard for most scenario. Love your workshop videos
