  • Sea Fishing at this time of year can be very productive but the conditions can be very challenging. Many species like Cod, Pollack and Bass are at their prime. Here I fish a range of soft plastic lure, slow jigs and metals on light tackle over areas of reef and mixed ground catching Cod, Pollack and Bass. All great sport and wonderful eating fish.
I have added links to some of the tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

I would love to be able to do what you're doing in the future, at the moment im not in a place where i'm able to do as much foraging but your videos really make me miss it. Used to sea fish years ago but never was much good at it, your videos have sparked my enthusiasm to give it another go! Also, very pleased to see you wearing a life jacket, too many people don't bother and risk drowning in even shallow waters (try swimming in water-logged clothing, you CAN'T!)
Keep up the good work bud :)

Got some of those sidewinders you use , a bargain 5 with different colours and a pack of swivels and lure rings £8 including p&p , in the local tackle shop they were charging £3.99 a piece, anyway haven't used them yet but I'm pretty sure they'll do the trick as it's what you have alot of success with. Hi John, I have been enjoying your videos for more than a year now.. do you ever worry about the future of the oceans? I like watching you fish because you are just one man catching what you need, and you know how to handle these animals with care. But the massive nets and fleets of ships depleting fish faster than they can repopulate have me concerned. I understand the ocean is turning more acidic, making it harder for coral reefs and shellfish to survive too. Basically, I fear that fishing - and fish - will become a thing of the past. I'm sorry if this is a difficult question, but do you have any thoughts on this?

Another excellent video. I have been watching your videos while recovering from covid, they really have helped to keep me going. Its good to see you putting lots of your catch back in the sea and only keeping what you like to eat. Your knowledge is amazing, and your sea legs, well enough said! I have been out of Padstow on a couple of boats for Bass and Mackerel and a friend and I had a boat in Swanage Dorset which we would take out as often as we could as I live in Hampshire. It certainly improves the chances of catching something good and different species. These days I only have time to do a bit of fishing from the rocks and beech when on Holiday down on the North Coast of Cornwall. I find it very relaxing even if I don't catch anything, there is always so much to see and hear. As I like eating Mackerel and Turbot which I have often caught then one cant ask for more. I guess I'm easily satisfied. There is nothing nicer than to catch prepare and cook and then enjoy eating something that you have managed to do yourself!
I will be looking at more of your videos and thanks very much, keep safe and enjoy your fishing, it really is an education to watch, and perhaps some of the anti brigade should have a look too, they might get some proper education. All the very best mate, and cheers!

Another great video, nice to see the cod. I live in Portsmouth and I'm a shore angler, and the cod have been turning up on the south coast beaches lately. Do you tend to get much cod action from the beaches down Cornwall way during the season? I lived in Cornwall for donkeys' years when I was young but never targeted cod. I know you're not too fond of fishing sandy beaches but a new beachcasting video would be good to see. You've done a few before so maybe....?
