      Be careful with that rod.
My Mum's father, my grandpa, was a very keen and excellent gardener.
When he died and the house was being sold my Mum wanted to take a few plants as mementos so Dad went to the tool shed.
The first spade handle broke as soon as it went into the ground.
So did the second tool handle - a fork - and so did the third, another spade.
We never did take any plants.....
So go steady with that rod!

First vlog from your goodself. Very professionally delivered via obvious hands on experience. Great to see the end result Feeding your family. Glad you explained the difference between the local and national agencies. I'm in my 70s and remember our once proud Fresh Fish supply markets where fish was plentiful and relatively cheap (eg. in comparison with Chicken). That was before we caved to the European (and further) Bullies and weak UK governments who, in their ignorance, gave the Fishing Industry away. Excellent video record. Thanks.

    • @AnthonyTobyEllenor-pi4jq

We did not cave in to the EU Bullies, not one bit !! because it was Edward Heath who GAVE AWAY our Fishing Grounds to the Common Market / EU and he stood up in the commons on his hind legs and Lied about what he had done !!

    • @jonathanbuzzard1376
      @jonathanbuzzard1376 2 месяца назад

The fishing industry was lost to a combination of Iceland in the Cod Wars and over fishing and very little to do with the EU. If every fish in UK waters was caught by UK boats and landed in UK ports the fishing industry would still be a tiny fraction of the size it used to be in the 1970's. Of course that does not fit your anti-EU narrative but it is the facts.

Grew up in Northern Canada (Manitoba) enjoying lake and river fisheries for Walleye (we call them pickeral), Northern Pike, Muskie, Silver Bass, Perch and Lake Trout. Now I live in eastern Missouri and focus mostly on fly fishing for Rainbow Trout or pond/river fishing for Large Mouth Bass, Crappie and Bluegill. Have enjoyed limited coastal fishing off Florida, British Columbia and Newfoundland and deep sea fishing off of California and Mexico’s Pacific coast, but its fascinating to sea a new fishery off Cornwall. Hope some day to do fishing around the British Isles. Thanks for showing us the tackle set up to the prep and cooking. Love your channel.

Hi John. I'm from Kent but am on holiday in Cornwall. Due to the weather I have only managed 2 trips so far. Had a tuna trip(licensed skipper)yesterday and caught a good size tuna which was unbelievable. I wish more boats were checked especially back in Kent. Cornwall is my favourite place to fish. Regards

John - I would have taken the opportunity to ask questions concerning your loss of lobster traps and the Fisheries continuing efforts to reduce theft and trap predation.

The Devon name, Hannah, is Gribbles, after the tiny wood-boring worms sometimes found on old fishing boats! A good scoop of Gribbles with take away fish and chips definitely stretched the meal to feed a family! Not the healthiest, but it was a once in 6 months thing!
    Great fishing, John!
And James can come cook for me any time! xxx

Watching from Kilcullen in eastern Ireland. Fished from the shore (pier) last night and landed three fish. Two doggies and a small pouting. Tight lines John.

When i was a kid at Primary School we would go to the local fish and chip shop for lunch and get 20c worth of chips wrapped in newspaper and if you were one of the lucky ones he would scoop the "crispys' off the top of the oil and put them in with your chips...thanks for the memories 😁

Watching from Hull, your young son James reminds me of my self at a similar age, I was lucky to have two uncles who were fishmongers and they taught me how to prepare all kinds of fish, I then spent a year as a barrow lad on St Andrews dock before joining the merchant navy, I’m 76 now and teaching my 8 year old great grandson how to fish, he loves crabbing with a drop net at Bridlington and Whitby . Keep up with the great videos mate!
