Nice boat mate. Back in 1983 (15yrs old) my brother and I asked for a fishing boat for Christmas - never thinking for one minute we’d get one. Christmas morning we woke up to a 16 footer with a decent size cabin on too. We were spoiled that year. It’s long gone now but I have real fond memories of it. Great channel btw. 👍
And I thought i was spoilt! 😜 It took me 20 years to get to a position where i could afford a boat and love everything about boat ownership, except for the bills that is. Glad you like the channel and tight lines👍🎣
Have great 2024..keep up the content nathan..love the pollack..bass.seatroot n boat action..easy lures..penn..barkly..century..sea to summit..lopen..scarpa..prob wrong video bit late entry 2 give awa if not😁tight lines mr slippy limpets👍
Decent day's fishing there mate. If its a toss up between your boat vids or winter cod from shore vids id choose the shore vids every time,,hope u aint gave up on them. Hope your mates chip in for fuel when u take them out, nowt worse than taking someone out all day n u just get a "right cheers, cheerio" at the end 😂😂
Nah, I couldn't give up on the shore fishing, it's is where i started and will keep doing it. They pay me in lures rather than money, helps keep tackle box stocked up 😄
Thats the first time ive ever seen anyone using the reverse wind on a spinning reel. We use gulp softbaits in New Zealand for snapper, we use much lighter jigheads 3/8 oz up to 30 metres. We cast ahead of the drift, with the boat moving towsrds the decrnding softbait. Lots of fun we eat the fish we catch
Only complaint is camera problems, should have had way more to show you guys 🤦 Still learning though and hopefully the vids and problems will become a thing of the past. Tight lines Darren👍🎣
Been busy and only just got time to watch your upload with a beer, really enjoyed the session, well impressed mate, your taking to it like a seasoned captain lol, hope you're doing well bud, tight lines
you had your frustrating moments, but what a good days fishing, especialy knowing there was double figure fish down there, to me thats what boat fishing is all about, I wish the fish stocks were so good that you could catch them, doubles, from the shore, as you said,
I've caught the grand total of 3 double pollack from the shore in 15 years of trying so totally agree about the fish stocks. I reckon I was within casting distance from the shore so will defo be trying that mark with some metals, could be impossible to land, with all the structure there, but worth a try. Thanks for the comment👍🎣
It is mate, not quite as exciting as shore fishing but the stamp and qty is unreal. The fly rod is booked on board for a next season, and fly caught pollack and cod🤞 Hope you're finding some scandi monsters👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets Found a really good spot for Pollock. Regular 8lb Pollock on light gear and another couple of spots great for fly fishing for sea trout, Pollock and mackeral. No bass yet though, needing to research.
Sounds amazing! I'm always supprised that you never see oics of huge, norway-esque, pollack seems like they're the smaller of the species availble there. I've seen a few vids of people catching bass in Norway, but they tend to be on the north sea coastline
@@SlippyLimpets I'm putting it down to the Norwegian attitude. They seem to turn their noses up at sea fishing , especially shore fishing (seems to just be immigrants like me and Poles/Hungarians etc). They only seem to sea fish from boats. They're mostly about Salmon and Trout. Just started a new job though which gives me access to lakes and salmon rivers so next year should be interesting.
Ah, that makes sense, they have so much water that owning a boat seems like a necessity. Congrats on the new job, would love to get a few salmon under my belt. A species I've seen but never hooked into.
Always look forward to that Sunday slippy RUclips pop up. Cracking session there, my stomach went when I saw your rod nearly go over. Such a shame your camera stopped filming with that big one. No shortage of fish this time. Thanks again for a cracking video.
Aye, the camera seemed to want to sabotage my filming, we landed, and lost, way more fish than it recorded. I'll get my sh*t together for the next session. Thanks Martin and tight lines👍🎣
Bet this is the session you dreamed about when you got the boat. Awesome fishing. One of them large pollack could easy pay for your fuel. Great to see such an intense session.
Yep, you got that right, LV, the fishing was that good I almost thought I was in Cornwall! Unfortunately, I'd need to jump through a load of expensive hoops before I can sell fish. Tight lines mate👍🎣
You seem to be struggling with your rods underfoot.I have four rod holders, they are a black enclosed tube with a drain hole inthe bottom. They have a triangular top with 3 fixing holes in.The advantage of them is they are angled.I have 4 in a line, the two outers are angled out so the rods all fish seperate.Perfect for fishing at anchor.
They do, I released a vid a couple of weeks back where they caught me pollack, coalies and wrasse. I've been reliably informed they work well for the bass too.
That was a buzz to watch; must’ve been such a laugh for you lads to be there actually doing it. Some pure belters! I’m envious! I’m gonna have to sell my setup and upgrade to something sexier, Brilliant stuff to watch, mate - cheered me up as o waded through some pap essays. Stay safe n tight lines. G
Cheers Nathe - yeah, I kind of know the spot. I don't use a sounder or finder though, so I'm not as accurate. I might need to rethink my views on that... I've kayaked out to a reef / ledge drop off near that spot before but it was snag city. Will give it another go in the sib. @@SlippyLimpets
Feels like it while the novelty is still there, but the boat fishing doesn't seem quite as exciting or rewarding as accessing difficult shore marks though. Tight lines mate👍🎣
Neither of us like to eat pollack that much, but the cod,are a different story, our rule of thumb is that if they're bleeding or won't swim back then we'll keep'm. Glad you liked the vid and tight lines👍🎣
Yep, would have been gutting to loose my favourite set up and a big fish. Who'd have thought a pollack would come up to a foot of water to take a lure. Lesson learnt lol
So Nathan ...the question is which do you prefer the most so far bearing in mind ya only had the boat for a short time ? ....is it fishing from the shore ? ya Kayak ? or the Boat ?...I have done all 3 ...for me it would be the = boat /kayak/shore (rocks)..only killer was with the boat was the cost of mooring fees or were to launch it for free ...and where to store it if not in a marina ..over to you on the above .
Good question. The novelty of boat ownership hasn't worn off yet, but I still love shore fishing. The freedom of the boat and yak are brilliant but I love the challenge shore fishing. So, for me- Shore Boat Kayak Boat and kayak might swap around after the boat drains my bank account
I suspect you are reducing your chances for Cod because of your bait.Cod will take a bait as big as your fist, (Squid/mackerel/black lug cocktail) with a scent trail they can follow leading to your bait.Lots of people use chum, even for other species rather than shark.I use sardine oil in my chum.
I don't like the taste of pollack but they make excellent sport fish. I've caught the same fish 3 years in a row ( it had a unique scar on its flank) so know that catch and release works. But, if they do die after release then at least they're feeding the marine ecosystem and food chain rather than being taken away from it. Thanks for the comment👍🎣
I doubt the original statement's veracity very much; 'majority' of fish do not die when released after being landed right. Research by several marine science based groups show that this is a myth. Catch and release is a data-supported positive, that stands up under scrutiny. I would suggest that you do not seek out a dedicated fishing channel that observes this as a fundamental basis for what he does, and then try a grandiose and negative statement - it belies your intent and negates your argument.
BG MQ is stronger, lighter, and has a greater line capacity. Mag Sealed requires to be sent back to the manufacturer for maintenance. MQ does not. The mag seal gathers fine sand and turn into a grinding paste if, you fish sandy beaches a lot.
Fair point about the MQ but my Mag Sealed is in far better nick after 4 years (without any service) than my 1 year old MQ. The Mag has greater cranking power, though and I can use the spool from my old Fream's 2508a on it.
I carry 2x 25l fuel tanks and an emergency 10l and just top those up before every trip. I'd say I'd spend around 40 quid on average. Fishing at anchor is much cheaper than this style of fishing though

If only, I'm gagging to catch a tuna but it would mean a 9 hour drive/tow to get anywhere near them and I'd need a permit🙁 maybe next autumn🤞
