Episode 2. Declan and I dive into changing the oil on the look out for misty pieces of engine before deep cleaning the upholstery and making some small repairs
Love seeing the dad/son project! My dad was a car-guy and he passed away almost 30 years ago when I was in HS. Cherish these moments guys! Also I’m learning some stuff from your videos that I’m going to use on my Iroc-Z.
Great job Guys! You’ve surpassed my subscribers in just two videos😂. Well, I’m hooked. I’m an old retired 👮 and remember chasing stolen IROC’s on the daily. Good times before the Body Cam😅
In its day the guy or gal that bought an IROC- Z. Were looking for performance. Pure and simple. My point, they were chosen to ride them hard and hang them up wet. I am looking forward to watching this project going forward.
I think the others have covered the Fram issue. Please teach him about checking that the seal from the old filter came off. If you’ve never had this issue you will if you don’t check. Then all the new oil will be on the ground in a hurry. Great content and kudos to your son for wanting to learn this.
Ole kid has a long way to go with learning but you gotta start somewhere. One thing I hope you tell him is he needs to CHERISH this time he has with you. My deddy was old school and I bought a 71 Mustang with a 302 in it when I was 17 years old and I begged him to help me and he wouldnt. He said "I spent years and years under a car and I'm not doing it again!!" It hurt my feelings but he did come out 1 time abd help me get it timed and straight. So make sure your son has a good time. Yall be good up there!!
Greetings from Southern Ontario Canada. I appreciate the fact that you filled the oil filter first, I have seen so many lube shops that will not do this. There is nothing worse than a dry start. Subbed and will send along likes. I hope the young guy realizes just what kind of history he now owns. I can remember when these cars came into production... being able to afford the car and not the insurance..LOL
The cancer on that sub frame reminds me why I moved to Florida. The N.E. winters are putting it to that frame. Excellent learning project for your son.
I grew up when the Iroc, the T/A and the GT were what teenage guys dreamed of having. These cars are going up in value now because adults are buying them to live out there youth 😀😂 You have a good starting point. Best money would be spent to make it a solid driver. Restoring cars can get costly very quickly. Luckily the aftermarket is strong for these cars so you should be able to turn it around without issues. I’ve subscribed and look forward to the journey
The good old OCOD. Orange Can Of Death. They're fine for short term usage while you're figuring out if the motor is good or not, but when he starts driving it regular, switch to AC Delco or Wix.
Hey guys, behind the door chords, the rear quarter panel interior trim panels, and the interior rear panel that covers the tail lights, and inside the air conditioning and heating duct, behind the toe kick panels, the dash top ect. You will most likely find more mouse houses. This is an extremely clean unmolested survivor. I will definitely enjoy seeing this will come back to its original Glory. God bless
This so reminds me of teaching my son on a old 1952 FJ HOLDEN we rebuilt together body off as well.. Great memories we both have for ever waves hi from Australia
7:32 You can show him how it works by putting the oil filter wrench on the new oil filter and showing him how the oil filter wrench tightens it's grip after you've fitted it properly.
I've got a 1990 Corvette that I work on with my daughter some times. She's 5, but likes to help. Declan seems like a very patient individual, who won't rush and wants to come out with a quality product. Great job, Dad!
I have a 1987 foxbody 5.0 Tbird Sport, that got a mouse infestation in it. Anything, like the carpet and seats that I couldn't use bleach on, I used the Lysol that you put in the wash full strength. That should be good to sanitize the interior. New sub as of August 2nd
I purchased my '88 IROC new and a few years ago when I pulled the engine to rebuild it (long story), I toyed with the idea of upgrading from my 305 (5spd with t-tops) to something bigger (the allure of the 427), but ultimately I decided to keep it essentially stock. It's just a fun summer car.
cool to see you and your son working on this car together. My dad sucked He was too busy drinking and screaming. please don't teach your son to use FRAM filters . 🤦
I hope you are gonna keep this car original, far to many moded Iroc's in the world. Pull the engine, rebuild it correctly and it will last for many years
Great video, awesome to see a fellow father working on a 3rd gen with his kid. But word of advise my friend. Skip the Fram oil filters from now on. Wix or Napa gold 👌
Thanks, yes. Off camera we had a word about the Fram. They are rubbish but all I could get without a second trip to another store! Once we rebuild it will be nothing but Wix!
I absolutely would not pull that engine until you have at least tried getting it running. Diagnose why it won't run now. I also wouldn't blame you for ditching the tpi but I also understand keeping it. If you do keep it, getting as many details nailed down now makes the engine swap complete easier later down the road. I really couldn't see the glitter in the oil that tells me the engines toast.
It's pretty amazing how much dirt you can get out of seats. I got some used 5th gen seats in mine. So not really that old, but I did the same thing. Cleaned like you, and I've done it 4 times now, and I can't believe how dirty the water is afterwards each time.
Hard to believe that motor is no good? Those 305 usually last forever and take a lot of abuse although, I haven’t heard the engine running . I would do a compression check to at least see if that’s good but, yea, glitter in oil is usually copper from bearings. Hope to hear it running in next video?
Sucks that the engine has to come out, but it will make for great RUclips videos! Keep up the good work, I see you fixed the audio/music volume issues!
Just saw your channel, great stuff! Worry about content creation like this and you will be monetized in no time! I will try to get some of my viewers over to your channel! Good luck guys!
I have complete Set of seals for sale the good ones doors windows hatch seal hood seal everything let me know I also have 25th anniversary hood off 92 fir sale and tpi
DEFINITELY ... ! IT IS WIDELY ALREADY KNOWN ... ! NEVER EVER USE THOSE FRAM OIL FILTERS ... ! USE EITHER A NAPA WIX , OR AN AC DELCO INSTEAD . WIX FILTERS ARE SOLD AT NAPA AUTO PARTS STORES , AND AC DELCO FILTERS YOU CAN JUST GET AT YOUR LOCAL WALMART STORE. BUT YES ... ! DO NOT USE A FRAM OIL FILTER ON ANYTHING.
Love seeing dad teaching his son how to work on cars. This will be some core memories for this young man. Congratulations Dad!!

Wish I had thought of that in the moment!

Might not seem like it. But you're both making quick progress and learning. On a good son & father garage project. It's going to be worth it..
Enjoy this channel keep posting videos

Nice job dad
Time for new bearings
Had two of these back in the day, an '89 305 and an '88 350. Those appear to be the larger RPO N96 16" wheels you have which look so much beefier.
Love the IROC content. My first car was nearly identical. Red, 305 5 speed 1990 iroc z.
My first car was a 87 Z28 love this channel
