  • I've shown you my best , now it's time for the worst! This is a small selection of some of my epic sewing fails. I'm not all about the perfect sewing , I like to keep it real and I actually found it quite fun to film this one. There are some good future re-make projects in here.
Thank you, as always , especially for all your kind words and encouragement.

We are our own worst critics. None were so disastrously bad that they could not be redeemed. For the easiest..the 2 piece pants n crop top..wear it with a tee but let the straps of the tee show as you did with the tee showing at your mid section. I honestly said, before you spoke, that it was cute. The solid black mid section really helped the overall look. The boho dress..add elastic across the front and over the shoulders to pull the dress in. The coatigan..ok I was gonna give up on that but thought I love the overall concept so elastic at the cuff n elastic on the back waist. This will make it not so wizardy 😂. Just wear your makes..feel fabulous in what you make even if you are an overdressed dropoff or pickup Mom.. Happy sewing 😊😊

@ChrissieConlayMakingStuff the wizardry robe would be good in the winter months just sew up the front and you have a wonderful warm house coat.

Commercial pattern sizing is a mysterious thing! I find that most of the time the finished garment measurements are written on the actual pattern pieces and they are a much better indicator of what size best fits. I've made some shockers in the past too, but I agree, just jump in and make a mess...nothing is wasted! We're always learning!! Enjoyed your trip down memory lane!

The brown dress looks lovely on you apart from the fit, I’m not very good at doing this, but the colour really suits you, perhaps unpick the top bit and get it to fit you better xx

Chrissie, I loved this video. I lost myself at the oatmeal jumper and pants with burgundy cuffs. I didn't know why you were criticising it... until you explained. And the back-and-white set was also ok at the first sight, but your critical approach was quite convincing. Yet, I think, maybe you can still wear it… (?) Anyways, I would like to thank you. I restarted sewing after 20 years, in the COVID 2020 year. Actually in the second half of the year. And I made a couple of equally baggy, unfitted, quite bizarre garments. But I haven't admitted to myself that they're actually not good. I preferred to pretend there's nothing wrong with them. But this video opened my eyes. So I really appreciate your work here!!! And thank you. Would I not wear these unfortunate garments anymore? I don´t know. At least I would be more aware about what's going on, and maybe I will not make mistakes?... Doubtfully🤣😂😅

Bright emerald green sounds great. Beige and brown are too dull for you. Next time, spend as much for fabric as you can afford in a color you love. Measure as carefully as possible and take your time. Make sure your fabric is one recommended for the pattern. I'm 78yrs old and I've been sewing since I was in junior high and made lots of stuff that was really awful. I gave up dressmaking and learned to quilt. It was my nitch. Best of luck, hope you have more success than I. Fitting was my failure ( I could never follow directions).

Hey Chrissie, loved this vlog. You are so real! I really liked that puff sleeve dress, such a shame it didn't fit. Could you add some shirring into the back panels to cinch it in? 🥰🥰

There's an old video on YT by Nancy Zieman on how to customize the pattern for your measurements.
M8018 - put elastic across the bust and over your shoulders, or (as a former tailor) I would take apart the bodice at the princess seam and take in the center only (front and back, equally). Pin it on the outside and try it on. No hope for the rest of 'em! 😂
    Seriously check out that video!

Gday. I Think you are too hard on yourself, the cut of your garments look great on you, just alter the sizing, remake in different fabrics 🤩The White collar on your dress could be swapped out as the dress itself really does look lovely on you 🤩You do make me laugh, you are a breath of fresh happy air 😀Have a great weekend, thanku 'sew' much for sharing 🪡✂🧵🙂

I love this made me laugh. I identify. I have a naughty corner for my fails. The Empire dress is gorgeous. If you take off the top and remake that in a smaller size maybe in a solid black I’m sure it would look stunning. Can you dye the tracksuit? But maybe you don’t want to because it sounds like the fabric is 🤮.
I try to use my unfortunate purchases for muslins . I’ve learned I won’t wear them. ❤🧵📍
