Even if your makes aren't always delightful, YOU always are!
Thank you 😊
I appreciate your sense of humor and fun! An occasional "fail" is just part of our creative process. I cringe every time I see an old photo of myself wearing a particularly ill-filling, too-large and boxy top made in quilting cotton where I had sewn the sleeves on backwards: my silhouette in the photo is reminiscent of Frankenstein. I'm a Star Wars loving geek, so I recognized your brown topper right away as reminiscent of Obi-Wan Kenobi's wardrobe. It's not your fault: even the model on the pattern envelope looks like she's wearing something from Tatooine. I admire your skill and creativity -- you ALWAYS look fabulous in your makes and always inspire me to sew something new. I think the orange dress looks lovely on you, but maybe the belt just needs to be sewn in a bit higher at the sides. Your pink color-blocked top is a winner. Thank you for not only sharing the successes (and that quilt, too, was amazing!!), but the not-so-perfect makes, too. Happy New Year!
Thank YOu! Thanks for all your kind words! Yeah the coat is pretty funny!
I love how you know what you like and what suits you. Totally agree on your comments.
thank you!
Hello, medical doctor here. The kidney's color is closer to the dark red fabric at the bottom, whereas the blush pink fabric in the middle is a bit closer to the color of your stomach. Obvs not exactly, but there you go! I loved your video, funny, relatable on a spiritual level, and surprisingly motivating! Let's both make better sewing makes in 2023! 🥰
Yes for sure, love your message! and appreciate the info on kidney colors! 😂
Love the orange dress with it laying on your hip is flattering. We all have our oopsies
Thank you! yes we all have different views of things.
I think the brown coat is just too much fabric overwhelming you. Just wear the coat with brown pants & don't agonize about it. Maybe make a belt for it that is more flat? I believe your unhappiness with a couple of your color blocking projects arises from putting the lightest color in the middle, so the garment looks unbalanced (light pink between black & burgundy or that light green panel between 2 dark colors.) Maybe if you pick a light color that looks great on you & feature that color next to your face you'll be happier when mixing colors ? The last light & dark pink shirt just looks summery -- I would wear it as it is and smile !
yes Lynn I think the fabric is just to bulky and it just bulks around the front. good point with the color blocking too!
Definitely yay on the pink blouse.
Yay! Thank you!
I don’t think it’s ugly at all! Really fresh!
thank you!
Nay for the pink color block shirt
ok thank you!
Yes, the brown jacket is very Star Wars but in any other colour it would be great. I like the pink shirt. I think if you colourblock, it is better to have the lightest or brightest colour up by your face. Thanks for the video
thanks for the suggestion, I will remember that. and I think i'm just going to repurpose that brown fleece fabric.
I appreciate all your makes and I like your experimentation with different colours. What I find troubling is the actual nasty comments made by viewers. Your Star Wars coat isn't too bad. It is just an odd shaped coat. I remember one time I made this Vogue cape looking pattern. I did a really good job and it looked like it was supposed to. It was an unusual shape but it was cool. My brother took one look at me in it and said, "you look one with it.". LOL.But people saying mean things from the safety of distance and anonymity isn't acceptable. I know you asked for comments but people can be constructive not mean and destructive. I like your channel and your quilt was beautiful. I love the pattern.
So funny! 😂 You look great in everything. But all that matters is how you feel. I can't imagine telling someone what they made looked ugly. You take risks with your sewing, and that's exciting. Great job!
Thank you! I even do that with my husband...some things I like on him and he just doesn't feel comfortable in it...not sure what it is 🤷♀️
I like the jacket ,put a nice brooch on maybe something chunky and bling it up ,also the color block shirt is pretty with the red pink and blue ,very unique.
thank you! yeah maybe i need to bling up that brown coat as right now its just like a brown blob
I had a lot of yikes makes. I do like the orange dress a lot. Most of my unliked creations were fabric and pattern didn’t jive together. Great video
Thank you for watching!
I actually like your brown coat and orange dress with the waist tie on you. We all learn by trying different things and need to be kinder to ourselves when things don't work out. I think we should wear what we like. I'm afraid to try color blocking, lol. Your channel is one of my favorites because we have similar styles. Love your pattern reviews! Keep doing what you are doing! 😉
Thank you! I think I did a good job getting good pics with the orange but for the most part its not a good fit! And Maybe I'm over-reacting with the brown coat but I feel like I should carry a light saber when wearing it...😂
Just keep it simple as you have done on other garments i appreciate you being honest in this makes
Thank you, Yes I do love simple patterns and I tend to pick up once that don't have a lot of seperate pieces to sew together
This video made me lol. I think the only person whose opinion of what you’re wearing that matters is your own. If you don’t feel good in it, pass it on. But for what it’s worth I really love that pink collared shirt you made.!
Thank you! and glad you enjoyed the video!
I like the color-blocked pink top you’re wearing. I think the color block top in the darker colors that made you feel lopsided will look better with a V-neck
Yes I started to really like the different pinks on that button color top
Hi there, I think the brown coat is nice but I would choose a lighter weight fabric. To make it flow better.
Thanks for the tip! I'm sure a lighter fabric would make it look completely different.
I agree to the 2 color max on the color blocking. The one with the 2 prints are overwhelming for your small stature. That is why the jacket was not your favorite, it is over taking you.
That’s a good explanation! Thank you 😊
Rather than "fails" I rather call them "lessons"😂😂. Love your two-tone pink collared shirt though; its a Yay.
Right! very good lessons! 😂
sometimes i find that i need to wear a style that i'm not used to more than once before i make a final decision on whether or not it's a keeper. for me, some of the discomfort comes from not being used to seeing myself wear a certain look but with more exposure i start to like it more. just an idea. i've also had garments that were an absolute no from the get-go. i think it just depends on your personal preferences and comfort level.
LOL, you crack me up! We all have had the same feelings!!!! Love you vids!! We have to have fails so we can have super victories! Keep On Girl
thank you! i love putting humor in things... makes life a little easier.
Pink shirt looks great with the white pants
thank you
I didn't see the annikin until you said something..i got a little chuckle. .but honestly I think you look great in it thumbs 👍 up
Oh thank you! That’s all I see is Star Wars 😂
Delilah that pink and dark pink is beautiful., but the one with the flowers it's okay but I'm like you I wouldn't do it again. You're an awesome seamstress
thank you!
Whoa-I can't believe people are so rude to tell you something is ugly😮 Anyway-I love your pink colorblock blouse❤❤
thank you! They must have just been a very factual person 😂
Lol! You are hilarious
thanks! lol
The one color block was to much wear it as pjs. The jacket is Star War. You could probably sell it for Holloween. The one color block with red and pink. I don't see anything wrong with that. The color block pink in the white with the collar love it. Love your makes and channel. I didnt comment on your quilt that was stunning great job.
You are on to something...I bet i could sell the jacket for halloween.
I like the hoodie shirt but I would have put the navy at the bottom or middle for placement.
yes it can be so tricky with color blocking!
Love all your makes, expect the stripes and floral one. Thanks for sharing. It's always nice to know other sewist dislike some of their makes.
Yes! Thank you!
I don’t care for the brown coat. The salmon colored dress looks good on! The pink shirt is good in the summer. Color blocking is obviously hard.
yEAH ITs a big brown blob...and you are right..color blocking is hard! but I seem to be drawn to challenges..
All you have do is make yourself happy not matter what you do people are going to said something negative it looks beautiful. The model on that picture is a tall girl. When people said to me at work some people were saying bad things about you people the I didn’t know I use to said I’m so important. So make yourself happy
that is so true! at the end of the day we just need to be happy and do things we we love!
Here's my two cents. 😊 I love the orange dress on you. I'm sorry that it feels uncomfortable.
The two tone pink top. Nay with the jeans, YAY! with the white shorts.☺️
Thanks for sharing. I. Glad I'm not the only one who has "fails".
Have a great year of sewing in 2023.
Thank you! and Like Rebecca said below...we should call them lessons 😂
Hello, I think the brown jacket is just to big for you, maybe a smaller size would have been more flattering. To me the Ella and Mac top looks great on you, the darker top and bottom is flattering and the pink around the middle draws the eyeup - love it. 8016 - I agree with you, just to many different pattern on one garment - love the other 2 versions. 8001 I really love on you - the cut may always make you feel unbslance but it looks great. To me 8244 looks great. You are way to hard on yourself - your garment are beautifully made and you should be proud of your professional finish. Love from New Zealand 💚💕👍
Thank you for your kind words! Hello to you in New Zealand!
I think you were drawn to color blocking and patten mixing/clashing, because it was a trend.
You seem to have an adventurous attitude when it comes to sewing. You like to try new things, and you try them more than once. That is great!
Personally, I like the "ugly" top! I also agree that the two tone ones look the best.
I think you dislike the last one or two because of the asymmetry. I think most of us naturally prefer symmetrical things. I made a Katherine Tilton asymmetrical top a couple summers ago. It was a challenging project, and o just loved it for two winters. I only wore it once this winter.
This hobby of sewing helps us learn a lot about ourselves. Our preferences also change as time passes and fashions change. Fun idea for a video! I love how brave you are!
I admire all your makes because I know how hard it is to make clothes and get the right fit. Not to mention how time consuming it is! I love your confidence in trying new things! 😊I think you look beautiful in everything! I stay away from color blocking but if I did I would keep it at 2 colors max.
Thank you for your kinds words! with sewing garments I can accept that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
Now, I agree with you about the brown coat...I have seen it being made on other vlogs and it was a fail for them. But I really like the orange dress and it looks GREAt on you...and the color block tops are so cute...the pink and red is really good and I really like the stripe color block...don't be so critical of your makes...and enjoy what you do and wear them with pride....
Thanks for sharing!! There are lots of makes that I like but some are just really funny 😂 😂
I would raise the belt position on the coral dress to flatter you waist.
Brave pattern mixing! Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Check out the ellie and mac playdate dress for kids. As for annikin, might be better without the sash... but I'll bet you can repurpose the fabric. The fabric is lovely. On the whole, I like some of your color blocking and pattern mixing so I think you are being hard on yourself. At least you are taking risks!
thank you! and yes I think i will just reuse that brown fleece for something else.
I think the pink and soft pink shirt needs to be longer but other then that I like
thank you.. yeah its like a crop top look.
I think if you moved the ties on the orange dress up slightly you might feel like it’s more flattering, perhaps. Visually, I think maybe the ties come together too far below your natural waist. For the record, though, I think it’s cute on you regardless. But I definitely relate to not being satisfied with some of my makes. And I think if the color block sweatshirt had the pink and the dark color at the top (black? Navy?) swapped, you might be more satisfied with the color choices. Again, I think it looks great, personally, but I do think it might look better with the red and pink separated. And yes, the pink collared button up is cute. Wear it! I love it on you. I do prefer to be the lighter colors on top for color blocking and the darker colors in the middle and/or bottom. That’s how I would change the last one, but I do still think it’s cute.
thank you! color blocking is hard, some you win and some you lose but i do have fun because i absolutely love sewing!
Ok I have a fox for the first neon dress pattern, raise the belt next time so that it hugs you closer to your bust. I had a dress like this and it hit my hip like that too so I tied it in the back. I’m going to make that pattern and raise the belt
Great idea!! Thank you! That might work!
Great idea. 🙂
I also agree that he color blocking is not a good look. The jacket, I have seen other fails with it. Apparently way over sized and yes it looks like Anikan Skywalker.
haha...thank you! i'm glad you agree with me!
Golly, where do you get your fabric? I enjoy sewing but I have trouble getting good fabric for a reasonable price.
I like you in bright pinks.
I bought so many nice fabrics from fabric.com when they would have there act fast friday...now its so hard to find fabric, I know what you mean!
Have you had your colours done? It could be that the pink in the kidney colour blocked tshirt is not your pink because you like the colour blocked shirt in cool pinks. I wonder if one of the main problems are the colour not being right for you. I do love the colour of the fluoro orange dress but you can do better with the pattern. Kittenish Behaviour also had a fail with the cape pattern. Funny I enjoy seeing others’ fails and mistakes. It makes you human like me.😊
that is a great suggestion on getting my colors done! Thank You..and I love watching Kittenish Behavior channel too!
I think the orange dress looks great on you. I think the hip bulge (?) is because the belt is too wide at the side seam, making the bottom overlap your hip. It should end at your natural waist. I think you could undo that seam over the belt, gather the belt more to make it more narrow and the re-sew the seam. The color is fabulous on you! Shouldn’t waste it just because of the belt.
As for the last color blocked knit top, I think it’s just too big. Did you use a size large? Remember, you should NEVER use larger than Medium on your small frame. I think you could fix that one by taking it in on the side seams and converting the sleeves to a slim, fitted sleeve. That sleeve just takes over you! If you can’t slim it up, just cut it off like the other view!
You have a LOT more successes than fails, girl. Keep sewing! 😻
That is a great idea with that last top..I never thought about that... I could possibly just cut the sleeves off...thanks for the idea!
just replace the floral part and have a save! we all have epic fails
Oh that sounds like an easy fix!
We always learn. Cut the long sleeves off the striped top. The beige on the bottom seems off to me. You are very brave with your color blocking. ❤️🧵📍
Thanks for the tips! I can't get away from the color blocking. i'm always wanting to match fabrics and patterns...like a quilt
