Is sewing really worth the effort? I don't like brocade and I don't like curves.

  • Well I finally did it. It took way longer than expected and way more effort than I thought it would. Is it worth it though? Well, actually yes it is. This dress came out much better than I thought it would.
Dress Pattern - Faux Pleat Dress from the Modern Wardrobe book by GBSB.
Fabric - Brocade and bridal satin.
Techniques used - invisible zip, set in sleeves.
    Thank you for watching.

Fantastic dress. I made the Cashmerette Upton dress in brocade (love it) and had the same issue with how to finish the arm holes as the brocade felt really itchy because of the metallic threads in the weave. I just sandwiched the seams into satin bias binding and that solved the problem. Love your vlogs so much x

Hi Chrissie, the pdf files are online for the gbsb book I hate tracing those ones. Your patience with the dress has paid off it looks fab on you 😍

I borrowed the GBSB book from my local library but it didn’t have any patterns with it. I did manage to find them online as I followed the instructions in the first chapter or two. BUT I also borrowed one the Gertie sews books which has the same system of paper patterns with the book (double sided sheets containing multiple sizes of different patterns. I traced one out and it has done my head in. I have to do a toile in case I have made a mistake with the tracing the pattern. The dress looks amazing on you. Well done!

That was so cool to watch Chrissy. You made a gorgeous dress that looks flipping fantastic. Changing the sleeves was just genius. I wonder if you’d overlayed the sleeve pattern over the original and merged them so you had the original armsyce, that might have gave you a bit more movement. I’m looking at the lines of the pattern in my book and wondering if those shoulder pleats can be tapered into the high waist then just flat side seams . Justove what you did to yours and how that’s triggered all bit of a spark in my brain too. That, my sewing friend, was worth waiting for! 👌🙌🎄

I completely agree with the sleeve overlaying , I got a bit carried away and forgot to merge them 🤣🤣 thank you for your lovely comment ❤️

@@ChrissieMakesClothes the fibremood magazines have similar overlay pattern pieces but you have to remember to add seam allowances too. A proper brain exercise 😛

Just a warning that no body form will adjust exactly to fit your body shape although the more adjusters the better. Ideally you need to pad out your form to match your shape exactly. I did a brilliant 2 day course at sewisfaction and came away with the perfect shape. Unfortunately i've since put on quite a bit of weight so it now needs totally rebuilding 😂😂. Anyway i tried. Seriously though it's worth doing - you make a body skimming calico of yourself and then use it to pad out with wadding. A good fitting, but old, bra is a good starting point for the bust. Good luck
