- All combinations of my vintage-inspired capsule wardrobe!
It was wonderful (and tiring) to try on all the different outfit combinations that I could make with the 16 pieces that I sewed for my holiday wardrobe. It was actually very useful because I could see what I could wear for each occasion and activity that we had planned!
I am very pleased with all of the items and apart from one top skirt combination, which is a bit pattern-heavy for my liking, everything works really well together. I ended up with 3 skirts, 2 pairs of trousers, 6 tops, a dress, 2 jackets, a cardigan and a coat. These combine to make 2 three-piece suits (or could also be seen as 2 dresses with matching jackets) and a shirtdress in addition to all the traditional 'separates'.
I am really pleased to have achieved my goal and I've really enjoyed sharing the process with you all on my RUclips channel. I hope you have enjoyed the series too :-)

What a wonderful wardrobe of clothes. Everything is a success and it’s hard to pick favourites but I do love the dark blue boat/low round neck top and the floral dress and floral skirt/top combo and the blue jacket, well actually all of it!! One day I would like to be clever enough to do a coordinated wardrobe. It would be helpful to have a review of all the patterns used even though they are probably not available anymore but easier to find similar ones maybe? Pattern cutting. It's well worth an evening spent making your own body blocks/slopes. Baking paper works. Draw out shoulder to crotch length for half back and half shoulder. I had to do it a few months ago to use the Haslam system. Godsend for checking the fit of commercial pattern pieces. Add to the blocks all measurements for inside leg, sleeve, skirt lengths, neck, wrist, elbow as well as bust, waist, hip. I've found that with my post menopause belly, the half hip is also very useful. Fullest part of the belly. Mine is the same as my hip but obviously a different shape, so I know what adjustments to make before cutting out. You can use the blocks as a base for making your own patterns or adapting commercial patterns. Simple diagrams can be found on Pinterest. For block making, The Closet Historian has an excellent video here on yt.

My personal favourites are the floral patterned top and skirt combo with a greenish base colour, and the floral top on a pale background. Although the two patterns did not go so well together, they really lifted the effect of the solid coloured skirts and tops they coordinated with, in my opinion.

🎉🎉Such a lovely, beautiful capsule wardrobe, I absolutely love it, love all the pieces and all the combos except was not fond of the white top with little red flowers with green print skirt. Love both of those pieces, just not together. Stunning. I need to do this but I struggle putting things together, fabrics and prints.

I like your green knitted jumper. The red 2 piece dress is very flattering - especially on its own. I also liked the blue skirt with the blue jacket - nice colour and cut. I never put red and blue together - I Iike more similar coulours together.😊

I saw this video first, and then went back and watched your entire capsule wardrobe playlist -- this whole thing is just brilliant! So much great advice throughout! In every one of your sewing videos you mention using your "block" to adapt the pattern to fit you. Would you be willing to create a video to explain how to create a block?

There was a time when every item in my and my three daughters wardrobe was ‘Made by Me’. Divorce, Full-Time Job and Jeans - these brought my sewing to an end. Now it’s only curtains and cushioncovers.
That's a shame. I must admit, I've sewed a lot more since my children left home 😊

Beautifully done! The colours coordinate so well together. It’s tricky to pick a favourite, the all blue particularly appealed to me! And whenever the blue jacket was paired with another item, it really made the combo “pop”.
I’m interested in seeing your planning process and strategies behind your choices. Also, I wonder if thinking about choice and where/how you’ll wear each outfit will be discussed? E.g. an outfit you wear for staying at home might be different than an outfit you choose to go out/volunteer/go to church….. i.e. thinking about your “roles”

I’m looking forward to your plan on the winter wardrobe. I am visiting my daughter in Europe (northern England) in November and am starting to think about what I want to make or take from my existing. Yours came out lovely. I wasn’t sure about the pink top with red cover-ups when you had the blue skirt, but actually liked it with the red suit look.

Favourite bits? Starting with your friends jumper - perfect green hue for you.
The blue jacket with the lavender trousers, the red jacket with the plain skirts, the 2 piece dresses. Those palazzo pants are inspirational. I've spent the last year eyeing vintage items on Pinterest but haven't found anything modern that I like. Seeing them on you has convinced me to make a pair for our Irish winters. I cycle and want a change from regular trousers and jeans. The wind here is just too cold for a skirt.

Just found your channel when this video popped up in my feed. You're obviously very skilled at sewing and you did a wonderful job with your capsule wardrobe! I would say that the outfits I liked best were the combinations where you either wore the little cardigan, wore the same color on top and bottom, or the same color shirt and topper, or had your shirt untucked. I mean, they were all wonderful and everything looked great on you, but I think wearing certain combos that either were longer or created the illusion of longer lines seemed to elongate your torso for a look that is very complimentary on you. It was fun to watch you model everything and be surprised at each combos, so thanks for putting so much effort into that! Subscribing now...
