I love your home and property and can't wait to see what you do to it! Congratulations on the purchase of this beautiful home! Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Can I just make a few 'mum' type comments?....you could do with getting a nice insulation jacket (B&Q or similar) on the hot water tank, also some foam insulation on the pipes running down the wall. You can paint the foam white if you need it to disappear. Or you could make them a feature and wind coloured bits of fabric round them? You don't want the nice hot water in the pipes going cold on its travels or the cold pipe to freeze when you're not there warming the rooms. That wall opposite the front door- if you find a nice piece of wood that could be sanded and polished, you could add some coat hooks and screw the whole thing to the wall? If you wait long enough the 'Artex' plaster work on the ceiling will become fashionable again lol. It was probably done to hide a cracked and old ceiling : ) Woodchip is a beast to remove, so maybe just paint it something more interesting! Just a weird tip....don't leave any doors or windows open at this time of the year- the vermin will be looking for a nice warm billet for the winter and can nip in so quickly and its almost impossible to get them out once they're in! You probably know, but you can get a swinging rod for above the front door, so it swings open when you open the door, rather than trying to pull the curtain back far enough to get the door open! Like gardens, its always best to live in the house for a year before making any radical changes. Sometimes the things you currently don't like become just another quirky part of the place with time. If you rip out the kitchen- maybe think about getting a local carpenter to build some reclaimed wood cupboards back in? Something modern might be a bit jarring in a house that age? Bet you're glad I'm not actually your mum by now? LOL It all looks fabulous - I've subscribed to see how it all goes. (And of course I'll be messaging to remind you to wear a vest when it gets cold : )
I LOVE the mum comments!! Thank you so much for taking the time! I have ordered a jacket for my tank! It’s a job for this weekend! And somewhere in my many boxes of stuff - are some coat hooks from my parents house, which I’m going to put up in the hallway! I did not know about the swinging curtain rails though - I’ll look them up! They sound perfect! Yeah, the wood chip is staying because I don’t have the energy to get rid of it! Eventually the plaster will come off the wall, but it can wait until then! And the artex is also staying for now because there might be asbestos in it, and I don’t really want to deal with that 😂🙈 Kitchen wise - reclaimed wooden cabinets would be AMAZING - and potentially something I aim for when I’ve finished renovating - but the bonkers 60s kitchen is staying for now, as eventually this little kitchen / bathroom extension will come down - and I’m going to build a nice patio here instead! Haha. Good call on the rodents - getting a cat and a dog are on my list, but things keep getting in the way!! Thanks again!! (And my mum was always pro-vest ‘got to keep your kidneys warm!’ 😂😂)
I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your parents and your very understandable struggles to adjust and find a happier direction in life. How brave you’ve been in buying this lovely cottage and starting over in a very beautiful, rural setting which is ‘far from the madding crowd’. I look forward to following your journey!
You can do it. I moved from my home in New York to Georgia at the age of 65. This was after my husband passed. Bought a 16x40 foot and turned it in to my home, doing a lot of the work myself. I had never done anything like this before.
How inspiring! 66 here, and planning to move to my grandmother's old house in Wales. I am NOT planning to do most of the work myself, for a start there's tons of earthwork to keep the water from coming in!! Your comment makes me feel like I CAN DO IT!! 😊

America says hello! As someone who has lived in the country, I particularly recommend waiting until you've made it through one winter to see what breaks or freezes before planning where money is going. Just a thought. The cottage looks sturdy and has great views. V. well done.
That cottage property is beautiful and so peaceful. You must not have deer because you have roses! I homestead 12 forested acres with a large 8 foot tall fence around my garden. I'm a 71yo retired widow and living solo with my adopted and formerly feral cat Poppy. I feel very fortunate to live my simple life in harmony with Nature. It's grueling work at times but absolutely magical too. Your cottage home already looks cozy and attractive. I love the houseplants! Best wishes Jude.
Ask your solicitor for a copy of your Title Deeds, that will give you a clearer idea of the cottage date (although bear in mind it is likely to have been built long before the records started). You could also try your local library for some area archiving help to find out. Your blankets are beautiful. I wish you much happiness and peace in your new adventures and new home.
Hi from New Zealand. When I went to Scotland to look at the house my father grew up in, I found it wasn't on the local map. A quick visit to the local pub, searching for the oldest patron soon located the property!😅
You are living my dream. I want to return to Scotland and live out my retirement there. You encourage me to realize I might be able to if I push through the doubt. Love your new home.
Brilliant, keep going. I'm 67 and have just bought a rambling 150 year old cottage. Like you, its scary stuff, lots to do, but it will happen eventually
Hi Jude, I'm Renee` from the USA. When I first saw your cute little cottage, I was ready to pack up and move to Scotland. 😂😂You have found yourself a little spice of Heaven there! Can't wait to go along with you in your journey.🥰
A beautiful cottage, my one suggestion if I may, I would turn your dining room into your craft room, it would be lovely a snug in the winter and those glass fronted cupboards would be a lovely spot to showcase your yarn etc…. Keep up the good work ❤
Congratulations again on your beautiful cottage. I can’t believe you have only been there a few weeks & your living room already seems so warm & comfortable. Totally Hygge cozy vibes. There’s no rush it all takes time. Im in my house 4 years now. The best advice about the boxes is set a goal one box a day. It seems very overwhelming. It’s great that you have those two rooms upstairs for storage that way you can tackle the boxes out of the way from the rest of your living space. It feels neater that way. I can’t stand the smell of cardboard boxes. A little PTSD from my last big move hahaha. Wishing you so much happiness. Your Mom & Dad I’m sure are so very proud of you. They are loving you even more from heaven. ( Maria Shrivers book I’ve Been Thinking reference. She found a book from her Mother the inscription said, “I’ll love you more from heaven”) Enjoy your new home. 🙏🏻🕯️💕
Jude, you could consider rugs as a temporary measure for your bedroom. Thermal curtains might help during winter. You might need to get the chimney swept before you need to use the open fire. An airfryer might be a better option than a new oven. You'd also be able to use it for dehydrating homegrown chillies to make spices, etc
Wow! I absolutely love your new home. How lovely to find another crocheter and knitter. Your collection of dish cloths is very impressive. Love all your blankets. Wonderful that you have them to remember your mum by. Thanks for sharing your new home with us all. xx
What a lovely cottage. To say you have just moved in, you have managed to make it very cosy already especially in the lounge. Good luck with your renovations Jude.
After seeing the shape the outbuildings were in, I’m happily surprised how lovely the rooms of the house are. I’ve lived through ALL of the old house updates and repairs for years before tackling the inside renovations that you can actually see. You’ve done a great job making it cozy.
Hi Jude. Condolences at loosing your parents, I am sure they would be SO proud of you. What an amazing project! I am full of envy! I was wondering if you have come across “Bealtaine Cottage” on RUclips? Colette bought a cottage with three acres in Western Ireland twenty years ago and there are quite a few similarities to what you are planning to achieve. So might be worth checking her out as she’s been there and done it!! She has an enviable pergola outside her cottage as you plan to do! So great for some ideas! Looking forward to following your progress!! All the best!
Oh! One more idea for your outbuildings! You could grow your own mushrooms in one of them! You can buy kits and they are easy to care for and good fun!😊
This is a lovely vlog 🤗 Don’t worry about being slow, take your time. One life, enjoy the baby steps, one at a time. Am I envious of your situation? Yeah! 🤗
This video randomly popped up in my feed. I just wanted to say you are valued and your life is always worth living and it is such a lovely little cottage. You have good style. My condolences on losing your parents. I am sure they would be so proud of what you’ve done. I just wanted to send you positive wishes ❤❤
Watching from Massachusetts in the USA. I also live in a 150 yr. old cottage and it has had its trials, but I love where I live. Good luck with your new home. The view is stunning.
Oooo! I was almost giddy when your video popped up, Jude! I’ve been looking forward to seeing the inside of your cottage. It is so wonderful! I’m looking forward to seeing your various projects. Welcome home! 😊
So many possibilities but so livable now! My favorite things are the flowers on your back deck! Just beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!❤❤
I could not resist turning the dining room into the sweetest little office/library. That said, the views are nothing but spectacular and the cottage is shockingly cosy and ever so full of potential. Loved the tour!
Hi Jude, I just adore your little cottage. Already you have it looking like a home and it can only get better from here. Brilliant outlook that you know that this will take time but all the better for your followers as we can enjoy your weekly goings on while you make progress. You are so watchable. xxx
I've got only one word: WOW. I want to be your guest when you start your homestay. I need to fall in love with life too and look at your many collections of things.
It's quintessentially a Scottish cottage. Lovely. Such views. I'm glad to see you have books around (and no TV, I love that, don't often find another person like us with no TV) because it's going to be perfect for reading by the fire this winter. My top tip, get that water tank covered in a thick insulated cover to save you a fortune in electricity. Your crochet blankets are beautiful.
The views sold me the cottage! I love it. Ahh a fellow no-TV household! People always think I’m odd for that, but I just don’t watch things! I’m a huge reader - most of my books are still in boxes - although I’m a slave to my kindle these days! I didn’t even think about insulating my hot water tank until people commented - but I bought a little jacket for it and it’s all wrapped up now!
@@rewildingjude So glad it's wrapped up snug 🙂. Not sure why the flow to the tap is so weak though. My tank is in the kitchen under the units, so below the level of the tap and the flow is powerful. It's nothing fancy, just a newer version of yours because the old one failed. Is there a gate valve on the pipe from the tank to the sink tap? If so, it may be stuck half shut. Gate valves are notoriously prone to getting stuck. You might need to replace the valve. We did it by freezing the pipe and making a very swift cut and replace job before the ice melted. We borrowed a freezing tool off a plumber to do it. There is absolutely nowhere in our sitting room for a TV screen. It never occurred to us when we bought the cottage as we didn't have a TV. We have 2 doors, 2 windows, a staircase and a massive inglenook. I'd much rather look at the fire with a book in my hand. Nothing nicer than reading with the fire glowing on a cold winter's afternoon and evening. Your place is already a lovely home. Don't rush it. Your ideas will change as you live there. Things I thought I could not live with at the start I am more than happy with now. I started off doing all the work myself, but then life and work got in the way and slowed it down. Now I've lost the last 10 years to ill health. But I never give up on getting my energy back and have just been able to start doing some smaller things again. 28 years after moving in there is still lots of scope to improve, but it's just the best house ever to live in for us. We love it. And now we have mum living in a small stone barn conversion in our garden. Perfect way to justify renovating an ancient barn and providing elderly care. I am so looking forward to following along. I won't be able to stop myself commenting because I love old houses. If you can find somewhere in Scotland, get yourself on a lime mortar training course. It's a wonderful material to work with and the cottage will thank you for it. Lime plaster inside and lime mortar outside. It looks fab and works so much better than gypsum on old walls.
It's a real pleasure to come and find you on Sunday evening. I was always amazed how you used to post Stranded videos. For a lot of us, it's like knowing a friend will be there once a week to share about their lives. Thank you.
For the front hallway, put up a coat rack and shoe rack.you can also get an a otterman to store books in and something to sit on while putting on shoes. You will definitely need a thick curtain over the front door. The "dining room can be made into a craft room and library. Line the walls with shelves or buy book cases. Put a cosy chair and lamp in so you can see when crafting. With your water tank, you should lag it. You can get water tank jackets, (we used to just cover with blankets. If not lagging it then put in a couple rack shelves and you can then use it as an airing cupboard. I would also invest in a welly boot scraper. You have done well getting this cottage. It is lovely and the beautiful scenery all around you is beautiful. Age wise I would say closer to 200 yrs ( I lived in an old 1 bed cottage that was similar. To look up Age, paying for public records is 1 way but also if there are old church records ,as that way you can Age it by it' habitation. Librarys are good sources of info too. Other than that put notices up in shops and face book pages asking for info. Explain you are researching the local history and in particular your cottage. Good luck with it all
I love this place and the pretty view! I'm in the states. But my moms family are of Scottish descent. They owned a medieval castle on the isle of Mara. In 2000 it was donated to the historical society. Scotland in my heart! I wish you the best and looking forward to your videos! ❤
What a lovely, lovely place you have found. the views and the gardens are spectacular -- those poppies!!!! I can't wait to see a winter video with your fireplace in use. Thanks for a fabulous tour!
❤ Thank you for the tour! You have decorated very well, everything looks so nice already. So cozy and inviting. Well done! All the best in your new home with your renovations.
I love the little semi-circular table in the kitchen. My brain is painting pictures of sitting at this table, drinking tea, looking out at the fabulous view, knitting some socks, and listening to an audiobook. This feels like a wonderful way to start a day.
You’ve been in my thoughts, Jude, and it was lovely to see your new home. Thank you for sharing it with us! It looks so incredibly cozy. Like you, I loved the colour in the kitchen. It looks so warm and welcoming. Good luck on your journey! Can’t wait to see where it takes you and your little cottage. ❤
That view from the window in your kitchen is beautiful! I can only imagine how cozy and lovely it would be to bake during the winter and holiday months! Just gorgeous!
Hello from New Zealand 🇳🇿 No idea why RUclips suggested this video to me, but am so happy it did. What a wonderful home. It exudes just as much warmth as you do. Love the wee knitted piggy & pretty garden. Wishing you a fab first year and a cosy Winter! 🏡
Beautiful. Thank you god. Thank you for my Omaze house. Thank you for listening and blessings me with the miraculously means of finally being able to have my very own house, my very own home. I pray I, you and everyone reading this comments are blessed where our 4 walls brim with light, happiness, health, wealth and laughter. Endless love and good days. God bless 😊
I love the kitchen colour too. Such a lovely cottage. I would really like to have lived in one but at 63 I may just be a little too old to be dreaming so big. Great place to live Jude. Thank you for sharing.
What a homely, charming cottage. It’s much better than I thought it was going to be. Your living room is going to be so cosy when you get that fire lit.
Seeing y’all use the word “homely” like you do, kinda makes me giggle because us Americans would say “homey”……because homely means ugly. I remember thinking …oh my gosh they just call people’s stuff ugly to their face! 😬🤭🫣
I stopped in to see how things are progressing. Im curled up with my little dog about to nap. There is a peace around you now dear. You’re on an adventure but it is your path. Grats. Your voice has a calm and excitement that hasn’t been there in quite some time. Proud of you, strong resilient spirit!! If I slip into a calm nap, TY I feel the calm…HUG bbs
I’ve been in my apartment for two years and your cottage that you’ve been in for two weeks is completely unpacked and livable. So impressive! My apartment is not unpacked yet!
Although you have work to do Jude, the cottage is so pretty. It already looks so homely and welcoming. As said previously, the views are amazing and you have some lovely plants in your gardens. I can imagine it's blissfully peaceful. Take care and take your time with it all. It will be so exciting to follow along on your journey x
Everything is charming, and so are you. Amazing colors you picked for the walls, they look beautiful, all of them. Congratulations on a beautiful dream about to come true.
What a great cottage. You're living room looks so cosy and welcoming already. Your yard with all the flowers, shrubs and little birds is so beautiful. The perfect spot to sit and enjoy being outside 😊
Hello from Ohio, USA!You had my admiration right off the bat with the flowers you cut and put together. Your cottage is lovely , as is your sense of style. I will be watching your progress and wish you well.
Your cottage is lovely Jude 😊. You look so happy, full of energy. I wish you happy times in your new home. Can't wait to follow your journey. I think you are doing a great job. I'm sure your parents would be proud of you 🙏
Hi jude. Your channel came up as a new to me so I watched it & loved what you are hoping to do, as an older person can I say that you are doing great. A few things I would recommend are checking the below before you start any decoration. 1- concentrate on the house structure first ie- make sure it’s water tight top to bottom roof, windows, walls, floors. 2-look at electric supply via mains, solar panels or wind power a simple system that can be added to later is the most efficient solution 3- insulation of the house should be a priority moving forward as it will return the investment 10 fold. Roof, walls, floors, get whatever you can afford that can be reused if you decide to do extra building work later. Personally I prefer the nasa insulation system blankets Iv used that for years and am constantly amazed how efficient & long lasting they are. 4- stock up on dried & tinned goods for winter, not just because of the weather but the price increases and less trips to shops saves on fuel costs 5- a few good quality mouse traps ( you will 100% need them) 6- go on local free sites etc and pick up as many large plastic boxes with lids as you can ( 100% the best way to store everything safe from vermin) 7- look at the ordination of your house & garden, sheds etc before you decide what you will use them for & where you will plant food. 8- it will be tree planting time soon so if you want fruit trees you need to decide what & where to plant asap get ahead now or you will lose a year. 9- I would recommend that you forget about chickens & go for ducks particularly Muscovy duck breed, they are worth their weight in gold for homestead. Produce abundance of eggs, excellent pest control for your garden & much easier to house look after than chickens. 10 - over the next few weeks look at what other homestead owners in Scandinavia counties are doing with greenhouse’s attached to their homes for solar heat gain & growing winter produce. 11- set up a Amazon wish list asap & put a link on your RUclips channel, post more videos 10-15 minutes each day of what you are doing is the most valuable don’t waste time on lots of edits people will love to see the progress. So looking forward to how you progress good luck with your journey
Thank you so much for all your advice!! Yep - besides painting my bedroom, all my energy will be going on the big stuff. I’ve been thinking about my fruit trees ever since I had my offer accepted on the house - there’s definitely going to be a Bramley apple going in somewhere!
What a beautiful new home! Yes, it needs some work but overall it's really a fantastic structure and the setting is absolutely gorgeous! I think you're going to have a lot of fun getting it just the way you want it. I'm very happy for you ( and a little bit jealous!). I t
Your home reeks of coziness! I think you have the knack for that. I agree that the bedroom needs a little lick of paint and a couple other things to cozy it up. Your new place is very livable so I do not see any urgency to do a big renovation but I am happy that you are taking us along for the ride!
My goodness, the gods smiled on you when you found this place. Utter heaven!! Your views out the back door are to die for!! Well done, Jude!!
I was thinking the very same thing! 😊
I love your home and property and can't wait to see what you do to it! Congratulations on the purchase of this beautiful home! Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Your home is so charming. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! Good luck!
Jude, I also live in Aberdeenshire. If you need a hand one day with anything give me a holler! More than happy to help
Great offer 😊
Thank you much!! (I’m sorry - RUclips is bad at comment notifications!)
What a wonderful comment!
How lovely
your parents would be so very proud of you

Hi, i just saw your video of your cottage home and i love it very much, wishing you the very best. I will be looking forward for your next vidio ❤
Cheap window insulation: bubble wrap!
I totally agree about the air fryer. I haven't used my oven since I got one 7 months ago.
Your home is lovely.
Thank you!
This is a lovely vlog 🤗
Don’t worry about being slow, take your time.
The Hard Part is over..making the decision to change your life. Now is just planning..prioritizing…and accomplishing your dreams…BEST OF LUCK!
Oooo! I was almost giddy when your video popped up, Jude! I’ve been looking forward to seeing the inside of your cottage. It is so wonderful! I’m looking forward to seeing your various projects. Welcome home! 😊
Me too!
So many possibilities but so livable now! My favorite things are the flowers on your back deck! Just beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!❤❤
You look like the sweetest, gentlest person. Love your smile. Lovely cottage, beautiful garden and the view is awesome.
Social media make everything slow seem really fast, delivering unrealistic expectations- take your time and breathe ❤
I could not resist turning the dining room into the sweetest little office/library. That said, the views are nothing but spectacular and the cottage is shockingly cosy and ever so full of potential. Loved the tour!
The cottage is beautiful and you are adorable. ..sweetest personality and great smile. ...can't wait to see more😊
Ahh thank you!!
Beautiful home for a beautiful person. Looks so cozy! The land is gorgeous. Enjoy the adventure! ❤
What a beautiful space Jude , you have made it feel so homely already
The absolute best of luck to you. I miss Scotland and its beauty. Sort of envious but too old to do what you are about to embark on. Much ❤
Thank you so much for showing us around your gorgeous new home, it is already filled with so much character and love x
Thank you.
How wonderful and cozy!! I'm a 70 yr old long time viewer, and I wish for you all of the happiness and joy that you so deserve..
Thank you so much!
Your cottage is gorgeous The best of luck with it 🇮🇪
Thank you so much!
New subscriber !!! Your home has so much potential. I love it. ❤❤❤
Thank you!! I think it will be great when I finish it! (In the Distant Future! 😂)
I’m living vicariously through you , loving every video
Thank you so much Holly!
Your cottage is gorgeous!!
It doesn’t really need anything done immediately which is great.
Enjoy your beautiful home :)
Congratulations, Jude! Blessings to You & Your New Home! 🫂
2 weeks progress is impressive ! Charmed by this late night scroll suggestion .
What a lovely, lovely place you have found. the views and the gardens are spectacular -- those poppies!!!! I can't wait to see a winter video with your fireplace in use. Thanks for a fabulous tour!
Thank you for sharing your journey. What a precious home. I can’t wait to see what you make of it!
It’s such a good little table! I love sitting at it - especially when the cows are out in the field!
I’m so excited to do some baking in there! I need to get a new oven - must order one this week! I miss making bread!
Oh the cottage is so sweet ! Wishing you lots of love and good luck in your new home . 💐
What a wonderful spot. A little piece of paradise, far away from all the craziness. Would love a place like that. Enjoy it! 😊❤

What a very charming cottage. The grounds are beautiful 😍.
It’s such a lovely setting! I’m so lucky to live here.
How wonderful. Such a lovely home and beautiful scenery.
Homey
🤭
Seeing y’all use the word “homely” like you do, kinda makes me giggle because us Americans would say “homey”……because homely means ugly. I remember thinking …oh my gosh they just call people’s stuff ugly to their face! 😬🤭🫣
I am loving this show!!! Thank you Jude for showing us a bit of your new place and life choice 😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰☮️
Its beautiful. Hope you stay snug and warm through the cold Scottish winters😊 keep that backboiler
I’ve been in my apartment for two years and your cottage that you’ve been in for two weeks is completely unpacked and livable. So impressive! My apartment is not unpacked yet!
Hahaha I have a room with a lot of boxes in, don’t worry! 😂😂
I'm here for your journey!!! Lots of love from Northern California!!!!!!
Jude, your new home is adorable. You definitely found a piece of heaven in the countryside. Thank you for sharing your new adventures with us.

Thank you so much! I hope they would be 🥰
Love it! I'm from Aberdeenshire originally and the cottage is so evocative of that area. Good luck, take your time and enjoy it all x
2-look at electric supply via mains, solar panels or wind power a simple system that can be added to later is the most efficient solution
3- insulation of the house should be a priority moving forward as it will return the investment 10 fold. Roof, walls, floors, get whatever you can afford that can be reused if you decide to do extra building work later. Personally I prefer the nasa insulation system blankets Iv used that for years and am constantly amazed how efficient & long lasting they are.
4- stock up on dried & tinned goods for winter, not just because of the weather but the price increases and less trips to shops saves on fuel costs
5- a few good quality mouse traps ( you will 100% need them)
6- go on local free sites etc and pick up as many large plastic boxes with lids as you can ( 100% the best way to store everything safe from vermin)
7- look at the ordination of your house & garden, sheds etc before you decide what you will use them for & where you will plant food.
You have a fine eye for beauty! That first bouquet is perfect! The colors of the cottage are lovely too.
It’s lovely. You have indeed found a slice of heaven where you will thrive. Sending good wishes for your success from Laguna Beach, CA USA. ❤
Absolutely magic!! Can't wait to continue following this new journey you're on and watching it all come together
