- TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy RedMagic 7 Pro performance tests! A gaming phone should be able to do things that other phones can't do. The 7 Pro is an exotic solution for squeezing out ALL the performance of a high end phone. In my first look at the RedMagic, let's chat about the performance claims, and see if this beast can keep up with portable console gaming experiences!

What games do YOU play that can take advantage of more powerful components and higher refresh displays? Drop a reply to this comment!
I'll go first. Games that MOST premium phones (not all but most) can reliably scale up to higher frame rates.
- Dandara
- Dead Cells
- Titan Quest
- Riptide series
Afaik, it took properly cooled 888s to run Genshin Impact smoothly (zero stutter) at ultra/60.
Is steam link a game? I also should play heavier games with the 888 I have in my OP9 pro but I just don't really game anymore on mobile.
THANK YOU SIR FOR THIS REALLY REALLY REALLY REAL REVIEW.
SIR IF YOU MAY, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROS AND CONS OF THE OS OF THIS REDMAGIC 7 PRO.
SOME PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT IT SAID THAT IT IS NOT GOOD.
THANK YOU AGAIN SIR FOR THE VID.
(EXCUSE MY WRONG ENGLISH)😁 GRAMMAR
Only call of duty mobile benefits on 120hz on the games I play, other wise I'm loving the cool to touch if not a little warmer while playing punishing gray raven.
Hardware should be beast but the game should be optimized as well, PGR is running properly on an 835
Charge separation sounds like something that every phone should have, or most high-midrange to flagship phones. Also thinking it could come in handy for desktop modes to squeeze a little extra oomph out of the device
Yup, that is true.
Sony phones are becoming a lot more interesting to me. This phone must lack water resistance rating, though.
@@machtschnell7452 No gaming phone has water resistance. There could a few with IP53 rating iirc, but that's about it.
@@farishanafiah8461 especially those with fans... and it makes sense...
Not just phones. Laptops should have it. Only a few laptops have it at all.
I have this phone, and let me tell you an emulation dream. This make a great retro handheld device. My only problem with this phone is there no micro SD card slot for expendable memory.
899 is cheap to get 512gb
Bruh what type of things you been doing to think 256gb is not enough
I have an old iphone for years with 64gb and i still haven’t used all of it
@@parkout95 Heavy users download lots HD Videos, favorite movies, photos, games, etc. So the more storage the better, and it's future proof for large games. In my opinion gaming phones should have the 1 terabyte option. Did that answer your question?
What I love about this phone is that ZTE can give built-in cooling fan while still keep the headphone jack. Other brands should have no absolute reason to ditch the jack for the sake of some worthless earbuds.
it has to have a headphone jack if it wants to call itself a gaming phone, since audio latency is a large factor when it comes to FPS and rhythm games.
@@XepherIo Well said. I never see any gamer who use wireless headphone for gaming.
@@XepherIo I remember attempting to use BT audio for rhythm gaming back in the day.
Never again lol.
It's gotten a little better. I can play thumper on Bluetooth now, but you have to pair the right headphones, with the right codec, to the right phone.
I used to think gaming phones were a gimmick but they actually have a TON to offer (with some trade-offs as a normal phone)!
You got the like and subscription! Can you please release the 2nd part? Lol I have the 6S pro and I am contemplating if this is a worthy upgrade. Also please talk about the speakers... If they are any good or if your palms block/muffle them when gaming. Thanks!
Never once at any angle did I spot the UDC that is insanely good
A little close up photo twitter.com/SomeGadgetGuy/status/1513943516312838151?s=20&t=KNAAxsMpRX63vkkIlh754g
@@SomeGadgetGuy i really thought the UDC can be a bit visible up close on the RM7 Pro, but dang, looks smooth! Was planning to get the regular 7 because i thought the 7 Pro's UDC would be visible or damage some pixels along the way, but in terms of cooling and frame stability, which offers the best? 7 or 7 Pro?
This is truly outstanding performance. I have to send major props to Redmagic. This device definitely shows why you purchase gaming phones.
It's crazy seeing what the 8Gen1 can really do, but it takes some exotic hardware to get it to perform like this...
@@SomeGadgetGuy Agreed
I'm always interested in gaming phones as a daily driver as non phone gamer. They're basically the super carriers of the "flagship" phone world. I had the Red Magic 3 and it was great. I just wish I had been able to unlock the bootloader and flash a more slick operating rom on it. Or ideally that it came with a lighter ui that also got even reasonable updates let alone basically none. But there's pretty much always some kind of tradeoff. I knew that going in and it still wasn't bad.
Would be interesting to see a desktop mode with such power at hand
Oh... I'll be showing what the phone can do there too...
@@SomeGadgetGuy perfectly splendid. Love your work, honestly a breath of fresh air when compared to other tech related commentary
G8 ftw. God I miss LG phones.
Great video as always. Going to play Undead Horde on my Note 22 and see how bad it struggles. 😁
Quick question. Does the Pro work on your carrier network?
Thank you sir!
I have a Galaxy Note 9 (exynos) and I have this "power separation/H.S power control" feature
How you may ask, by flashing a custom kernel that supports this feature (V45.1 kernel to be exact)
"You'll have to go somewhere else for videos of anime girls running around" 😂😂😂
I love you Juan. Great performance review obviously but that joke made me literally laugh out loud 😂
We have fun. 😊
Hi there Juan! What’s the first game that you’re playing(0.27)?? Love your videos
Great for gamers, great review as always.👍
Another great informative video sir. Thanks for the hard work producing it.
Hey Juan, do you have a list of all the mobile games you play?
I think I published one on the Patreon. I haven't updated it in a couple months...
Should i buy the redmagic 7 pro or the other redmagic mdels? What's the main differesence when it comes to display, batttery etc.
Pretty awesome phone. I got the pro + cooler. Love it. Pd you forgot to mention that through their website all taxes are included
I did not catch that. Good find.
Fantastic content, YET again!
This phone looks great! I've never considered a gaming phone before. Currently in the market for the Edge+ 2022. I'm just going to assume RedMagic 7 Pro doesn't have 5g support in the US right? That will probably be answered in the next video. 🙂
Great video! I wish this guy had a podcast.
Do I have some GREAT news for you!
somegadgetguy.com/2022/04/11/sggqa-248-samsung-slashes-prices-on-s22-my-weekend-with-the-oneplus-10-pro-musk-bails-on-twitter-nissan-and-nasa/
Interestingly, I just came to your video after watching techtablets to review and he was a little worried about the temperatures. Particularly around the frame. No real throttling though. But he said he'd like to the cooling better on the Nubia red magic 7 non-pro
I wish OnePlus did this! Asphalt 9 Legends needs this performance!
LOL it would be nice if ALL phones at higher prices could get a little closer to this kinda performance...
@@SomeGadgetGuy agreed!
So what's going have you left that other site and started you own
If I do consider buying one im not sure which one between the RM 7 supernova or the RM 7 Pro Obsidian
Fantastic video as always
I recommend Juan you try AetherSX2, PS2 emulator. I use it on my ROG Phone 2 and it delivers!
That build quality looks awesome.
Very interesting video, do you edit all your videos on your phone?
Nope. I mix it up a lot. Still have a workstation for editing at home. I don't travel with laptops anymore though.
@@SomeGadgetGuy And that is perhaps the most salient point. Which keyboard screen combos you use with a phone should be featured repeatedly in your laptop replacement reviews.
Been a long time fan and dare to ask a specific question. As someone who uses Android devices for touch portal and other neat reuse applications with the computer, and has also experienced phones 12 to near explosion without a future like this, can you recommend or can folks start compiling a list of every phone with a feature like this so that we don't continue to burn out phones and swell up batteries. I lost two One Plus 3's like this and a couple of Honor devices without knowing what the problem was
I think I found my perfect phone thank you obi slick juan
What game were you playing in the beginning of the video ?
Juan, this phone has 2 cpu if I'm reading the specs right
Does it have an LED Indicator? To remind you of missed calls or texts or notifications??
It has an Always-On-Display.
This compared to the regular 7, which gives more stable fps and cooler temps while gaming?
Does it? TK got his 7 up around 5 degrees higher than on my pro...
@@SomeGadgetGuy i guess the pro gives better heat dissipation even if it only has one intake and exhaust
Finaly head phone jack in proper place
Please do an audio test
can i know what fps meter do u use?
I would like a gaming phone because I feel that gaming phones have better audio especially when you play music through headphones wether they are wired or Bluetooth I had the Xperia play which was nicknamed the PlayStation phone that phone banged out music loud really loud
These speakers are kinda crazy.
ill wait for rm8 or pro. not happy with low ppi,120hz, low 600nits. also shoulve been 6000mah battery
can a red magic 7 factory reset any iphone???
Making fun of my Waifu simulator eh? How dare you! I'm taking my body pillows and going home.... TO CRY!!!
If only I could share a 'Waiting for Guffman' gif in a youtube comment...
Though I don't need it, I want a water resistant device that performs like this. I know that I'm hoping for too much!
I genuinely don't know how to make a product that performs like this, with rated water resistance, and not have it be unobtainably expensive...
Wouldn't dunking it just make it liquid cooling?
(Jokes)
Does it run Dex or some equivalent?
More to come soon. 😊
Impressive
6:36 - what game is that? Prince of Persia?
Dead Cells!
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks Juan!
This is some absolute NUTS performance! But does this mean this is the fastest phone YOU have ever tested? Also cannot wait for manufacturers to port more PC games on android because this is some next level performance that needs to be utilized
It's case by case right? It drives me crazy in reviews that we MAYBE look at a game or TWO, and then just regurgitate a geekbench score. Any phone over $600 should be reviewed like a laptop where specific applications matter more than a synthetic general performance score. So far, no phone I've used has completely matched what the 7Pro has accomplished. SOME less demanding games can hang, but I've NEVER seen Undead Horde played above 60 on ANY portable device.
@@SomeGadgetGuy seeing undead horde play at 120 fps was really something special. I guess for people like me this could be an absolute beast for old console emulation. So the way I look at it is, android recently got a brilliant ps2 emulator which could take advantage of this level of performance when hooked up to a TV. The thought of running those games at 5X or 10X resolution in modern TV's puts a smile on my face. There's also switch emulation and for something this powerful , this could totally emulate those hard to emulate switch games pretty well. Personally I can't wait for the future when we have one device for everything. Phones could be our main computers/ gaming consoles just with a dock. I think we are still a solid 4-5 years away from that dream but I can't wait
It's getting REAL good. Why we need even more pressure on reviewers to do more than just run a geekbench and call it a day.
Who dislikes Juans videos? I don't get it... I mean it's not even a Samsung/Apple vid - its a RedMagic video? I just don't understand...
"You said it could do things better than the Galecksee! DOWNBOAT!!!!"
@@SomeGadgetGuy And they call Apple fans Sheeple... Sheeesh!
Had a handful of folks on my Note 22 video i wasn't praising Samsung ENOUGH in that video...
🤦♂️
@@SomeGadgetGuy I can't believe these people are not bots... Crazy :D
It's the most "fun" game of whack-a-mole muting all the people that just show up to complain about a video not being about Samsung or not being biased in their favor. I don't really engage any more. I just mute and move on. Samsung Knights are the worst.
This phone is a monster
The 7 pro have issues my friends I recommend the 7 don't get me wrong both are cool phones but the 7 have a better selfie camera and have a better 165 hz screen the selfie camera of the 7 pro even tho it's 16 mp it has that issue where it's blurry I have seen this in other phones to but paying that much of money you would like a better selfie camera that the 7 has in addition the 7 pro is a bit bulky heavier much more expensive for small improvements which there is negatives I recommend the 7 not only its better in gaming but you can mod it easily using cupper chimps but it's a hard job on the 7 pro because of its cube camera setup I have moded my red magic 7 I added cupper chimps running cooler than the 7 pro or any other phone and I did get better score on antutu
What do you mean by cupper chimps?
@@MySUHIT they call them different names there also called copper pads so what you do is you open the phone you place the copper pads on top of the cpu or between the gaps that are filled with thermal paste you put a copper pad instead my thermals went from 60c max to 35c max it's worth it I even got better results on 3dmark I gues the lower temperatures let this phone oc higher but the phone wasn't even throttling before this is a mod so you get the best out of your phone its really cool tho ngl
@@iicei2 that sounds perfect to do to a 2 yr old flagship to get some extra power, however I don't know any place in India that does that.
@@MySUHIT lol there so cheap on Ali express but to be honest it will get the Temps way low I recommend it highly on the red magic 7 works perfectly on it the 7 pro kinda wanna get creative lol
Name of game @ 0:31?
Titan Quest 😊
Not realizing that the TSMC fabbed SD 8plus Gen 1 is just that much better and actually more efficient +-10% both ways makes those who bought the 8Gen1 a little heated. Is TSMC's 4nm node that much better than Samsungs. Just ask nvidia. There Lovelace Data Center and soon to be Gaming GPU's will all be made by TSMC. I think AMD made a smart choice going with TSMC on the desktop side of things. Funny enough, Samsung thought they could pull the same thing off using AMD's RDNA 2 architecture on there own fabrication. Nope... The 920 Eclipse was supposed to be a 6cu (768 streaming processor) monster but, instead got a 3cu (384sp) GPU. Still it was capable of gaming at a good level but, once again the Exynos chip failed to compete toe-to-toe with Qualcomm. Shhhmm...Give me a ROOTed V60 and call me happy.
Bought the phone loved everything about it except had to return it for a refund this phone is not compatible with pretty much any carrier except T-mobile in my area in upstate NY. My carrier is cricket phone worked great for the first 5 min then they shut my service down had to drive to the cricket store just to be told sorry bub not compatable with our service. Was determined to find a compatible carrier in the area went to at&t was told NOPE went to Verizon same deal T-mobile said yeah sure budday we can do it but T-mobile blows green greasy moldy donky D in this area spent 800 for the 18 gig supernova redmagic 7 was a long lengthy pain in the ass to receive my refund multiple emails back and forth had to spend a 100 bucks to ship it back to the return center in texas then after about 3 1/2 weeks I finally got my refund. All in all this phone is hands down an amazing phone but has major limitations in what phone carriers you can use it on make sure you do your research folks.
The bummer there is ATT. Their 5G roll out has been comically complicated, and every USA carrier is trying to use 5G as a way to lock consumers in again. It's not great, but T-Mo has been a LITTLE better at opening up some sub6 for international phones.
Gaming pretty much a waste of time for me. Higher productivity and enabled laptop replacement is very interesting, though. Thermal throttling is a serious issue on the latter. Also I did not see you using the external fan cage on this phone.
Can buy me one plz plz plz really I need this
samsung galaxy s21 ultra 5G is the father and mother of gaming
