After selling my HD at 74, now At 81, I ride my e-bike almost everyday, weather permitting, I’m on my 4th e-bike, drove the hell out of them and then, I give them away to relatives.
Great to see another senior adrenalin-junky riding a fast ebike! I’m 78, on my third bike, a 52v dual-battery model with 27.5 x 3” tires. It’s a bit too heavy for me but it has lotsa torque and long range and goes from zero to 27+ mph in about 6 seconds. I realized early-on that I rarely want to go 30 mph but I love rapid acceleration. Two things any oldster should consider when buying a fast fat tire ebike: (1) are you fit enough to muscle a 70 lb. bike, and (2) can you accept the risk involved riding at speed, because falling at 25+ mph is a lot more serious than crashing at 10 mph. After my 80 y.o. riding pal broke his collar bone falling at 20 mph, we both wear mountain bike armor, ‘cause if you break a hip at age 80, you are most likely done-for. For me, the fun outweighs the risk.

I'm 74 now, but in my younger days I've been known to ride a motorcycle well over 100 mph. Thank you God for watching over the young idiot I once was. All that to say, I think your comment about an e-bike filling in the missing element of a good motorcycle ride is right on. Can't wait for my Ecells 5 Star to arrive. There are plenty of riding trails up here in the Pacific Northwest, and I'll be blazing along on many of them. Great ride; great video. Thanks for posting. Glad your tunnels are free of monsters. Pretty cool! More power to you (no pun intended). Looks like fun. Back in the day we used to try to build and ride go carts in the backyard and then they outlawed riding them in most places so we gave up that hobby. Nowadays, I ride what they call a hybrid or fitness bike around a small leafy city and enjoy the pedaling and cardio. Went 17 mph down a hill once but mostly ride around 12 mph or less and that suits me just fine. I’m not into going fast. I enjoy doing my thinking while taking in the sights and sounds in the gorgeous surroundings. Wouldn’t mind trying a fast e-bike just for fun now and then. On a sour note a heavyset senior riding a big and fast e-bike bullied his way through a group of cyclists and pedestrians on a trail in a park the other day-what a hotdog. Such riders give e-bikes a bad reputation. Seemed like he didn’t give a hoot about anyone but himself. In this video at least you weren’t doing anything like that. Still if you ride an e-bike and are respectful others I’m a fan!
Ahhh I miss the old go-cart days. Used to spend weekends riding around a big church parking lot. Yeah, riding fast is something one must be very level headed about...but, it certainly is a blast. RUGER
Going through these tunnels is like a near death experience LOL light and all. I'm 70 and I tear up the neighborhood with my Freedom. Best thing happened to me in a long time.
I'll be 62 in August. My first ebike was a 2017 Rad Rover, I've rebuilt it to do about 30-35 mph. I have a few other bikes I've built that do the same speed and a couple that are stock. I swore I'd never buy another prebuilt ebike, because my builds are much better quality. I am one drunken Saturday away from buying the new Wired ebike. I've talked myself out of it a few times, mostly because I don't want to hear the wife yell at me about another bike in the garage.

I got my first ebike last August(23 Wired Fredom in orange) at 69 years old. I haven't dialed it up yet, but I am going to do that soon. We don't have trails like those that you have in the coal region of PA, but we have many trails going through the woods made for four wheelers and washed out roads going to some lakes and ponds in our area. Hey! Where did you get your biking gloves? I like how they go with the orange bike's color.

I'm 69, I started on a Lectric Xpeak. Love it but want to go faster. I ordered a Wired Cruiser, not here yet but i am looking forward to riding faster.
Been looking at them, the Wired Freedom's a perfect fit but their Predator's tempting. Lucky me I'm 15 minutes from the factory pick up location. Need a step through, Wired really upped their's. Power for older people? Driving is easier than peddling and we have some very steep hills on our park trails. Going on 63 the bike you have is perfect, it comes with two batteries now for 2k, nice. Watching videos the Predator's front tire's over powered, dropping it down to 750watts should solve the problem, shave a little weight and extend battery life. The Freedom's a great value with nice conservative lines, its a sleeper that doesn't draw attention from the cops. The Predator's front motor might be worth 1300 but the new 1500 extra is pushing it. Back to 3300.00 with a smaller front motor would make it safer and more attractive. What color??? 🙄I like the orange, blue and lime green, they have great choices.
62 years old here... around 42,000 miles since 2018 I ride 50 to 60 miles daily, fast bikes I got to say though you should really be careful with those tunnels. Should seniors ride ebikes : Should seniors ride bikes of any kind at high speeds. When your older things break easily , aand you are more infirm than 30 year olders . Moderation in all things is beneficial . Desperate times may call for desperate actions though like dangerous situations etc. The other option , is tour Bike Motorcycling , and to do that you'll be in a more comprehensive situation with traffic , moving vehicles , traffic laws and restrictions , and accident liabilities . I think i would like to tour bike on an ebike ....with spare parts and backup like : ecflow 1000 charger for fast reboots , and extra tires etc. Driving from one designated area to the next , and taking the back roads .
@@RugersLastResort thanks Ruger ! Also wondering how far the New Dual Battery 20AH + 15AH setup will go ? Based on your numbers a 60 mile range sounds legit 😎👍
I think all seniors should get one. Baby Boomers are a huge voting block and maybe it will get the politicians to give safe dedicated bus and bike lanes. This reduces congestion in the cities plus noise and pollution, not to mention, but change to a mixed zoning law so we have nice pedestrian neighborhoods.
Here's the way I feel. I ride a MTB for health primarily and it's fun. If however, I think about adding a motor/engine I'd just rip my dirt bike mc and not apologize for doing so. I think e bikes are cool for people who dig em though.
I love how you mention how distracted drivers are today for the reason you sold your Harley couldn't agree more. drivers have never been worse so get off the road and stay safe
As another high speed senior I would say it depends, some people yes, some no. First of all you have to be true to yourself. Are you proficient with driving things fast. If you are generally on the Strugglebus when it comes to operating mechanical things and sensing speed limitations, such as cornering, maybe a fast e-bike is not the best decision. I see you driving your cars sometimes struggling just to make a lane change at 10 under the speed limit. lol. I see videos of people riding a motorcycle for the first time. They throttle up and immediately get panic locked and drive it into the shed or something. Meanwhile, somebody else can figure it all out right away. Driving a bike into a wall at 35MPH is gonna hurt or worse. As Clint Eastwood said, "Man's gotta know his limitations". LoL. Paragraph rant over now. 😁
Very true words to say the least. Some people seem born with talents (sports, arithmetic, socializing, etc)... You gotta know your strengths. I've known a few really high IQ types - very smart people but they couldn't drive themselves out of a paper bag with written instruction! RUGER
I am 71, ordered the new 2024 Wired Freedom. First time using an e-bike. Excitedly awaiting for shipment. I am confident in my abilities to push the Freedom to it's limits. As my wife say's when discussing my bike riding habits. "He is a lunatic when on a bike."
Dont act your age because you'll probably feel it If you feel it, cuss it and dare it to hurt more. If the pain continues, ridicule it until it subsides. Never act you age.. Refuse to give in.
if you can talk normally, you aren't working hard enough. Yes of course seniors should slow down. Reaction times go way up. Hospital bills are way up. Healing time goes way up. Chances of accidents go way up. In the old days (pre E) the ONLY bike riders going fast on level ground were the BEST riders and they got there with many many hours of saddle time at slowly increasing speeds. Seniors might have experience (I'm 65 in 2 weeks) but if you dont' have 30 years of riding you shouldn't be going fast. And that can be 15mph in some places.
Ecells brother! Ecells ! Go buy a triple crown or a five star dual battery with upgraded front forks, teckron piston breaks, 203 mm front and rear rotors ! For less than $2500 and free shipping, more important own and run by David Cleveland a veteran and U.S citizen from Nevada Ecells
Nothing wrong with the step through especially if you have a bag on the back, even though you can swing your leg, it's easier to bail out of. for seniors e bikes are good exercise and get you out of the house

I'm 50 years old I've been riding a regular bike since 2008 doing 20 miles a day up until covid-19 I had covid Fairly bad these last couple years I started getting back into a normal routine but I bought a electric bike conversion kit in January of this year the bike will go 40 miles an hour which is good but my average speed is 20 to 25 unless I'm being chased by a dog which happened a few times where I had to floor it but it does pretty much what I wanted to do lots of fun it is hard not to go fast knowing that it will go fast I have two cars but I hardly drive them plus their Classics and I like riding the bike more than driving my car
Right on! Yeah, I have a couple hot cars as well. Gotta force myself to drive them 1x per week to keep them top notch. 👍🏁🏁 RUGER
Does 59 count as a senior? If so I ride a Philodo H8 that's capable of 35 mph
Hello Senior! If you get 10% at the grocery store on Wednesdays, you're old 🤣 Philodo is a good bike for the price. RUGER
Great post 👍. I think e-touring would be an interesting activity. RUGER
Hi Ruger 👋
I want Power and Range.
How far are you getting at an average 20MPH ?
Hey there! I go about 35-40 miles before range anxiety completely sets in. Probably could go more but, by that time I'm tired of riding. 👍👍 RUGER
Great point! RUGER
Here's the way I feel. I ride a MTB for health primarily and it's fun. If however, I think about adding a motor/engine I'd just rip my dirt bike mc and not apologize for doing so. I think e bikes are cool for people who dig em though.
You can never go wrong with a dirt bike. They're always a fun option. RUGER
I love how you mention how distracted drivers are today for the reason you sold your Harley
couldn't agree more. drivers have never been worse so get off the road and stay safe
Exactly 👍 RUGER

Thanks for watching, Billy. I'm sure you are going to have a blast on that bike! Loons like us have fun 😎😎 RUGER
You shouldn’t stop riding the tunnels but you should be armed when you do it.
Maybe I am?! 😉 RUGER
His name is Ruger, might be a subtle hint there, like Smith, or Wesson?
@@larrybowers64 👍👍
I had assumed he was.
It’s great you’ve got all those car free paths to ride i have to ride on the road with cars on 😮😂😊😊
Yeah, our tax dollars put to good use for sure! RUGER
In situations in which elderly may have equilibrium challenges, two words: e-bike trikes.
I make that ride by metro center every day and both of those tunnels are full of homeless people! I'm 63 and love my lectric Xpress 750!

I’m going on 70. I can’t do a regular bike anymore for exercise so e-bikes are perfect for our kind.😅
250-Watt motor IS max Watt legal motor on bicycle paths!
NFL-size rider here with 250W motor.
Be forewarned...

I'm about ease of peddling, not speed.
Nothing wrong with the step through especially if you have a bag on the back, even though you can swing your leg, it's easier to bail out of. for seniors e bikes are good exercise and get you out of the house
Absolutely! Whatever it takes to ride. RUGER
Im sure ill still be riding souped up ebikes when im a old man.
Then you're not 'old'...old is a state of mind... IMHO. RUGER
If you can dodge a wrench you can ride a fast ebike
Some can and some should not. Has NOTHING to do with age.
Most buy Wallke H9
Class 1 e-bikes only…
For the masses? Yeah, I agree. RUGER
Speed limit signs lol
If it's 750watts or more it's not an ebike! Read the FED LAW!
Don't care. RUGER
@@RugersLastResort Parents want ebikes off their kids playground. They push to have ebikes outlawed. It's careless utubers that make them think 43mph motor vehicles are ebikes.I'm 76yo and my bike to ebike upgrade is my last shot at mobility.
Fast riding has no place on playgrounds. Fast riding has no place in a lot of areas. Common sense is king. Glad to hear you're riding! RUGER
It's funny how the Wired RUclipsrs started shilling E-Cell😂
Nobody cares about wired bikes no one cares about e-cell bikes what we care about is e-bikes in general I'm so sick and tired of hearing about the comparison between these two moronic companies
