    Thank you for the caution of the clearance of the front sprocket. I would have probably wrecked it. I have a tendency to be , using my wife' explanation, a lunatic when on trails. I just today purchased the Wired Freedom. It is supposed to ship to me about mid May. This is my first E-bike. Did serious investigation of E-bikes for a couple of months before deciding. I ordered the Black color, like yours. I am 71, the picture shown is me a lot younger, just never got around to changing it. The joy pedaling my mountain bike is not as fun as it used to be, it getting to be too much like work. Lol. I believe this will bring back the enjoyment of bicycling again as when I was younger.

    Nice content… I will be changing out the BMX bar to a lower MTB when mine is delivered. It’s a heavy bike but with MTB bars you could hop some additional clearance for that chain ring. It may also be worth getting a bash guard if doing a lot of off road.

    I agree with your assessment that the Wired Freedom isn't the best at any particular metric, or function, but it hits the sweet spot at being very capable of handling a wide array of challenges.
    I love mine. I didn't expect it to be so beautiful, and the blue just pops.
    I was concerned that the bike wouldn't be large enough; that I would look like an adult on a kids bike.

    Do you think you could make a video discussing how the suspension works on the bike or how to make adjustments to the suspension, how it feels riding at different suspension settings. Also what’s the difference in gear shifting vs PAS?
    Thanks for the great videos on the wired freedom I’m looking forward to receiving mine in January

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  6 месяцев назад +2

      I will make a video addressing this, thank you for the idea! The main difference in the gears to the pas is the Pedal assist levels increase or reduce motor power and top speed while changing the gearing allows you to increase the torque of your pedaling and lower top speed or increase top speed and decrease torque. Said differently, the gearing is much like that of a car gears, where as the pas is like having 5 different motors (small to large) each allowing more power (and thus top speed) than the next. You really don't ever need to come out of shortest gear (small gear for top speed and low torque) as the motor can do all of the work, unless you need to go up a big hill, with terrain that requires you to slow down (offroad). For riding on paved roads, you really don't ever need to change the gears at all!

    What would be the best/safest way to drain the battery when your bike is not in use? Thanks Dave.

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  6 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. Considering the size of the battery, the only real way is to run it down during your ride and not charge it back up afterwards, unless it is below 30 or 40%. I suppose if you charged up for a ride and then couldn't use the battery for some reason, you could use the USB charge port on the battery to charge up a bunch of USB rechargeable devices (ie phone, flashlights, cameras, etc) and use the battery like a power bank until it goes down. Another far less efficient way would be to elevate the rear tire and just throttle full power for a while, taking breaks to allow the motor to cool, but, without a load, this would take quite some time. I don't think leaving the lights on would do much to the battery to drain it, and the bike would auto shut off after a while, so I wouldn't recommend that.

    U don’t want to store the batter fully charged but u absolutely do want to fully charge it regularly. The cells need to be balanced regularly and can not do that if it isn’t allowed to fully charged. U should actually leave the battery on the charger for around 12 hrs or so as often as possible. Even after the charge is indicting full the bms is balancing the cells which can take up to 12 hrs. The battery offset is to allow for more fram rigidity btw.

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  5 месяцев назад +1

      While you should charge up to 100 to balance the cells occasionally, you definitely do not need to do it as often as possible... this will shorten the life of the battery considerably if you do so.

    Your top speed will be lowered if you are not in c5 =0,1,2 or 10 as will your peak and continuous wattage. 3 is about 500watts, 4 is 750watts, ect until 10. Try C5 at 0 for softest start will full power. Don’t worry about the chain ring, can still get home easily enough on throttle.

    • @leetjohnson

      Ok will make a second post. From one of the FB groups I belong to, this one specifically for Wired, here is some information being passed around involving C5
      C5 set to 10 is NOT incremental, MAX (1500 watt nominal) power from start and always.
      C5 set to 0, 1, and 2 Slow start ending in Max Power 0 being lowest and 3 highest.
      Now it gets interesting.
      C5 set to 3-9 supposedly as follows 3 = 750 watts thus making bike U.S. Class 1, 2, and 3 compliant.
      4 = 1000 watts, 5 = 1125 watts 6 = 1200 watts 7 = 1250 watt 8= 1300 watts and 9 = 1365 watts.
      This would be why you see I difference in top speed 5 vs 10. 5 = 1125 watts and 10 = 1500. Remember this is nominal power.
      Hope this helps.

      It's like I'm a wide body (in the 1950s when I first learned to ride a bicycle, they called us Husky) person, thus putting mirrors on is a PITA. So I'm trying something different, (absolutely don't recommend for trail riders catching air, etc.) but using a rear facing camera with a 4.3" display (ya that's bigger than the bike's display) to see to the rear.

It just stopped working for a few minutes. Once it cooled, he could ride it again like normal. So, that was encouraging. That sounds epic! To be honest, I don't know much about long haul rides, however, there are a lot of new companies coming out with dual battery ebikes, and most if them have the ability to use just one, or both batteries at the same time. I would search for the longest range (I've seen a few that claim up to 80 or 100 miles range) but, to get that kind of range, you often have to use pedal assist 1 or 2, so it will be a slow trip with a LOT of leg power on the hills.

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  6 месяцев назад

      @maximumchargeEV they are just different in terms of use and access to certain areas. For heavy trail riding, away from people on foot and regular bikes, I choose the Surron all day. However, for going to the lake or riding on bike trails, the Wired Freedom just blends in much better and won't raise any eyebrows or be cause for the police/rangers to ticket you or even worse, impound the bike. I love my Surron Ultra, but I use it only when riding with my other Surron buddies or in the desert. For all local stuff around the lake and in town, I feel much more comfortable that I won't get hassled by law enforcement or trail Karens. A lot of this will depend where you live and ride most. The Surron isn't street legal, but this bike is (or at least can be) and passes the visual test easily...while explaining your Surron is street legal if limited to 25mph will be tough. Especially if you are going 30 or 40mph or faster on it in front of people. The Surron Light Bee is much more stealth than the Ultra, but at my size (6'3" and 235lbs) it was great but couldn't handle the really heavy riding stuff the way the Ultra does (more like a dirtebike than a heavy duty mountain bike). Hope that helps.

Our modern-day computer hardware is designed to decrease (or throttle down) at 100 C/212 F, which most of us computer nerds/builders don't particularly like about 90 C / 194 F. So 200 should be safe, but if it ramps up to 200 quickly I'd be a bit concerned.
      Good update, thanks for taking the time to look into the comments from the previous video.
      As far as the speedometer, I've found mine to also right ever so slightly fast, compared to GPS.
      In my opinion, not really much to get all worked up over. Because of this, the mileage traveled on the display will also be slightly more than what GPS shows, again it isn't off by a crazy amount.
      You will notice it more the longer your ride is. I rode according to the Freedoms's display yesterday, 32.4 miles. Cyclers app showed 31.4 miles and Strava showed 32.14 miles. So even the GPS apps aren't consistent. I'd be more concerned if the display read 40 mph when the GPS says 25, that's off by a lot.
      Oh, glad you mentioned the kickstand rattle, as I think that is the noise I've been hearing also. Just a quick noise and gone and only with moderate to heavy jolts.
      bout 14:26ish, two things it's actually even closer than the picture, why? Well, your weight isn't on the bike compressing the rear shock which would make the gap even tighter. Second, I don't really think this bike is designed for hardcore off-roading like a true mountain bike which as you know has a much smaller tooth ring.

    That 56tooth chainring is perfect matched with the 11 tooth sprocket in the back will eliminate that annoying ghost pedaling . I’m skeptical a little on the quality of the components , brakes , batteries . As this e-bike looks great on paper . I’m not a fan of metal sided gears . Tends to make the motor sound loud . Overall seems like a great ebike. Hopefully customer service is good and provide a hassle free warranty for valid claims . I cannot stand they do not take care of the e-bike to include up to your doorstep though . Bum move honestly . They require you to buy shipping insurance which should never be the case . With price, shipping , shipping insurance that $2000 becomes closer to $2300. Still a good deal and wish they had a 20” tire version . 26x4 tires are huge . Overall from what i see in videos and because of price i would rate 8/10 . If i can save enough i may end up with one

    Why does it seem like this bike is so fragile that we need to constantly monitor the motor temperature and baby it so much? Is it a trustworthy machine or not? Is it tough, can it handle being ridden for a few hours over various terrain? Why does it overheat and die all the time?

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  6 месяцев назад +3

      I haven't had any overheating issues....with over 2000 watts of peak power available (double and almost triple most other ebikes on the market) it is probably easier to push it to the point of overheating. The motor temperature sensor is just a cool feature that I haven't seen before on a bike, so I was mentioning it a bunch in this video. During summer is when I would expect any overheating issues to occur, if any.

    Just a few questions What helmet are you wearing on the wired? A bike or motorcycle helmet?
    What is the critical temperature for the motor? You forgot that important fact. As for the wear on the battery, you should be draining it to ~10-20% before swapping it out... The number of charge cycles you put the battery through also causes wear, not just the amount you discharge it. How come you didn't tell us what the battery was at when you swapped it out? There is a guy that added a second battery to his wired bike, but he used a 62 tooth pedal gear in the front which he found made it easier to pedal with the bike at top speed.. Have you considered changing from the one you added to the bike? The guy's name is Maximum charge.

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  5 месяцев назад

      I wear a helmet called "Basecamp"...just a regular helmet, not a full face. The battery I swapped out was for my GoPro, not the Wired Freedom. As far as the critical motor temperature, I'm not exactly sure when it will cut out, but I have seen it go as high as 240 degrees Fahrenheit without any cutting out or overheating.

    Just a couple of things. There is nothing wrong with charging these batteries until the charger turns off. You will not save 5 minutes of total time over the life of your battery by stopping it from charging completely. You are correct you don't want to store any lithium type batteries at full capacity for more than a couple of days. Also politely asking if you could please tilt your camera angle up so we could see where you're going instead of staring at the ground constantly, that's very difficult to watch. Good job on this video.

      Actually, if you charge to 80% you get 4x the number of cycles from the pack. If you charge to 90% you get 2.7x the cycle life. I rarely charge over 90% unless I need the full range. Same rule also applies to your iPhone battery. Also, try never to fully deplete the battery and store around 50%.

    • @dixienormis3614
      @dixienormis3614 6 месяцев назад

    • @jfly2249
      @jfly2249 6 месяцев назад

      @@dixienormis3614In terms of not caring for their customers, check out Lectric’s new xpeak, the brakes barely work and it comes with the smallest battery on the market. They had to recall 45000 bikes because the brakes were deadly. Also, read their warranty and return policy, basically all sales are final. I am just figuring you are a Lectric man with battery envy. Starting to think those guys compensate for having little dicks by having even smaller batteries.

    • @leetjohnson
      @leetjohnson  6 месяцев назад +2

      @dixienormis3614 Because then people wojld.cpmplain that they have a battery that can only charge to 90% and is a waste to carry around and pay for the last 10% of cells. Not a single manufacturer on the market has a charger that only charges to 90%. Charging to 100% and using it right afterwards is fine, just don't charge to 100% and let it sit for a few days.

    • @randym8529
      @randym8529 6 месяцев назад +1

      I would have guessed using 21700 cells in a 16 series / 4 parallel configuration, from what I’ve read, this cell normally operates in the 3.2-4.2v range (3.6 - 3.7V being nominal) If there are 16 cells in series, this would equate to a battery pack operational range of approximately 51.2 - 67.2V
      Do you think it would be safe to let the battery get that low? Or would it be better to allow a little more overhead on the low end?
