Torque sensors are not good on high power rear hubs as the bike surges with every downstroke. The constant wattage approach is really the best. Really well done video btw!
I bought the blue 2024 wired bike and have had it for three weeks . I’m 6’2 and weigh 217. I live in Bellingham, Wa and ride it every morning at 6am for coffee. I bought a second light mounted on my helmet for the dark mornings as the stock light isn’t sufficient for the non lighted trails. This bike flies especially with peddle assist going up hill- as there are plenty of hills in Bellingham. Definitely enjoy this bike. Glad I bought it
I just ordered a 2024 Wired Freedom! I can't wait to see how it does in Central Georgia around the Atlanta Suburbs. I live in an area where transportation is limited and you basically need either a car or motorcycle to get around reliably. 25 to 30 miles is plenty enough for a basic trip around my area touring, especially at full power. Thanks for this amazing video! I Subscribed, we have almost the same amount of subs, too 😅 Cheers
Best eBike video ever. I just canceled an order for a different bike and buying a Wired eBike. This will be my third eBike and I never was battery savvy. Thank you. PS, Folsom looks amazing.
Man, I'm thinking this about to be the way I get around Holland Mi, trying to stay low key as the cops are pretty damn bored in this area. I've been on an ebike review video binge and this one is tops. Good shit bro, thank you.
You're welcome! That's why I love this ebike....it looks like any other ebike, but can go 40mph! By the way, if you decide to pull the trigger, I have a link in the description that helps out the channel if you decide to buy one. Be safe out there!
@Dudemeister-id9mw depends if you want the top speed or not. Engwe is good, but I think for a bigger, heavier rider, the Freedom would fit you better and have much more power for hills. If you do decide to get the Freedom, I'd greatly appreciate if you would use the link in this video description as it really helps the channel! Good luck and let me know what you decide!!
@@leetjohnson I would have used the link.. dang just purchased. I have the old model, black. I am 250#. I can go 40 mph on the old model. I just sold it and upgraded to the dual battery system. I have been riding mine to work for 2 years. I have absolutely no issue with hills with my weight. Looking forward to even better bike with the extra battery and improved motor. Love love love my wired bike.
I got the 2023 BLACK, I live on St. John, USVI. I'm 65, this bike gave me freedom, but do to our topography I only get 30-50 miles out of a full charge. I love it, it gets me up hills I couldn't climb on foot.
You know what? You and I are very similar. I’m about to be 66 and last week I ordered a 2024 Freedom. Today I got notification that it’ll arrive next Tuesday. I’m too weak to pedal regular bicycles any distance and so I believe that this bike’ ll save my life. Happy trails!😊
I love my 2024 wired freedom. It’s basically a motorcycle with pedals. It’s nice being able to keep up with traffic on city roads and cruising at peaceful speeds on bike trails as to not upset people.
I have read that the varnish covering the copper windings are good up to 150C to 180C or 300 to 350 F in short bursts. I’d hope the high temperature cut off of the controller would prevent any damage before that. Hybrid metal gears don’t melt or soften at high temperatures as well.
On pins and needles waiting to get my Freedom at the end of the month (hopefully). Thank you for a great, informative, fun video. You're lucky to live in such a beautiful area.
Just ordered the e cells 5 star and since the components are so similar and some the same, I really appreciate your videos as it's totally gonna help this newbie set things up. Thanks e bike bro !
Hey, j just got home and saw thus video, great job. I in the SF bay area. I have a 2024 blue freedom coming mid January, the waiting time is tough, less than 1 month, yeah! Ed
Thanks for doing a range test. The Controller is programmed to cut off the motor when the motor temp hits 300 degrees F. The motor can handle more heat but the limit is set to prevent internal damage. I got this information from the guy who engineered this bike. I think my range is somewhere around 35 miles. I'm waiting for no rain and warmer temps to give my bike a full test.
I had mine in blue for about a week. The motor temp is reading 214 degrees with the ambient temp at 74 degrees during my last couple of rides. I checked by touch. It didn't feel like 212 degrees. Of course, I checked the settings in the program. Has anyone else experienced this? Great vids!
Great video. I have also been testing the range on my new Wired Freedom. I am a much heavier rider and on Petal Assist one, going around 17 mph with minimal throttle I get 30 miles. Which is very good. I ride more for exercise.
65 miles plus range in my 2024 Wired Freedom Okay, I changed my settings in a attempt to maximize my range. Ended up setting my C5 to (3) and C14 to (1) which is the lowest power pedal assist gives you. In addition, I chose PAS level 2 and left it there for duration of ride. I also chose not to use hand throttle, but to rely on pedal assist only. It was interesting to see power meter indicating motor drawing well less than 200w under all circumstances. You do need to gear down & exert more pedal force on inclines (also reduced speed). On flats, speed ranged typically from 10-14 mph. On slight downgrades it was easy to achieve anywhere from 15-20 mph. Now here's the kicker ... at end of ride I had achieved 65.2 miles range and battery voltage indicated 55.0v so still some range left. This is far better than I expected to achieve, so it goes without saying that I am very pleased. For the most part it was a very comfortable ride. If someone is on a long ride & needs to stretch their range, I see this as a very viable alternative (just a minor setting change and avoid using hand throttle)!
@@leetjohnson I’m not surprised at the amazing range you’re seeing thus far. I chose to use PAS 2 because PAS 1 would’ve been a little too slow for me, but still glad to see you do it so that we can all see the extremes achievable. One thing I haven’t been able to figure out though, is there a different setting I could have chosen to allow me to use occasional hand throttle while still restricting motor power draw to a low level (under 200W)?
Came to watch the review but got to see things I have not seen in a while. Interesting to see how the Folsom area has changed, I went to High School there in the 90's. We used to be able to drive across the damn itself, it was very narrow and I would not want to ride a bike there, that changed after Sept. 11th. The Natomas area is called that because between Folsom Dam and the Nimbus Dam further down river (near Hazel Ave) is called Lake Natoma. We used to ride our bikes along that area and jump off the old Rainbow Bridge, where you stopped to take the picture. Also the dredging piles are not from the lake, it is from gold mining dredges. I am looking at getting one of these for commuting to work 1-2 days a week, it is ~20 miles each way so it looks like I will need an extra battery or charger or bring the charger with me.
That is SO cool! Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it! I was wondering about those tailings and if they were just from dredging the lake or from gold miner dredging, thanks for clarifying that!!
I just ordered one of these bikes in black. I've watched tons of videos on them and as a 230lb 6ft man this range test sold it for me. I have to wait until April for delivery though. I hope UPS treats ot nicely.
@@leetjohnson update: I just got home a few days ago and got my bike set up. This thing is a blast to zip around town on. Casually riding around in PAS 3 gets plenty of range and speed, throttle twist for some boost. Love it.
Folsom has so much beauty. I need to ride up there more often. Can’t wait for spring and summer. I’m in Elk Grove. Steelhead fishing at nimbus right now so I’m not riding as much as I should.
I like your videos. Looks like a pretty good bike. I have a 2019 Kona Satori DL full suspension. Only decided to make it mid Drive powered bike after watching Johnny NerdOut videos. I put a CYC photon motor on it. The bike is a one by 12 gear type. It’s a lot of fun. Had a couple little issues with the controller. Have you ever tried one? Do you know anything about CYC? It’s a torque sensing unit. Lots of adjustability. I also converted a rocky mountain, mountain bike for my wife. Put a bafang 750 W on it. My wife had originally bought an envo ebike. it’s a reasonable commuter, but not good for riding trails as we like to do from time to time. We are both over 60 years old and this really lets us get out and have fun still like a 20-year-old. anyone reading this, the bang has definitely had a long reputation of reliability and easy to install and work on. I am still happy with the CYC as well. Lightweight, lots of power. Would definitely recommend anyone to install a mid drive versus buying a typical built electric bike. Prebuilt is a lot more money less adjustable on the fly.
I'd love to see a throttle-only range test. I'd like to get one of these to commute to work, and would love to keep it over 30mph on throttle only since I don't want to get sweaty.
Eying the bike. Grew up in yuba city/woodland and my dad finished his life in orangevale. Great place to be. Thanks for the vid, good luck with the channel, have a thumb and comment.
Haha I have been to Yuba city. That place is crazy… they have hundreds of wild chickens roaming around. That’s where I found out roosters will crow anytime they like, 1am, 3am… lol doesn’t have to be sunrise. You get in some serious trouble there if you mess with the chickens. 🐓
Just ordered a 2024 Freedom in the copper color (Titan is the factory name for this option). I don't have strong legs and I am looking forward to the uphill assistance!
I have the 2024 Wired Freedom. I am 195 lbs. I take an extra battery with me. On fairly flat and PAS 1 I was able to get 40 miles on my bike. I did PAS 2, but mostly 1. I also pedaled the entire time. I stayed on hard surfaces. Using the brakes means you wasted some energy. starting and stopping a lot reduces your range. Going uphill will suck power from the battery. Having a second battery is a must for me cuz I live out in the boonies. Love this bike.
29 miles at pretty-much full power is impressive. And its still doing 25mph on the flats with the battery empty. But I think that temperature sensor is what really sold me on this bike. Only wish it didn't take a couple of months to get the sucker!
this is the 3rd video in a row of this particular bike... 1 of them was a year ago bike.. all of these videos go on an "adventure." i just watched the 19:00 where you went down that dike.. it says a lot about the bike when people go where they don't normally go.. where no man has gone before;)
@@leetjohnson interesting how all the people that were walking and jogging on the path were on your side of the path.. i am in Colorado and it seams like most walkers and joggers are on the same side as the bikers.. i don't necessarily need to be going 40 mph.. i could probably even do 20 mph and be good but i am in the Rockies and i think i would need that power to get up the mountains.. that and the sun out here is like i have never experienced so i would wonder if it would overheat.. are the different power assists different gears in the motor or is it a direct drive?
@darinsmith2458 it isn't direct drive. It has planetary gears. The 5 levels of pedal assist are simply wattage controlled output variations....from around a few hundred watts of power, up to 2,000 watts peak. There are also 7 physical bike gears on the rear wheel too...it eats hills with no issues! I don't think overheating would be an issue.
Hey thanks for the video. Waiting for mine to come in late may. I’m in Massachusetts/Rhode island line. Ordered the black. Heard there was going to be a few upgrades to the delivery that haven’t been announced yet. Subscribed 👍
Haven’t bought one yet, but it’s getting close to impossible to think I won’t end up with one haha. I have a Trek Allant+ 8s but want to add a joyride bike into the mix. The trek is pedal assist only and caps at 28 mph and has no suspension. It’s a KILLER commuter / bike for long adventures, but for certain rides and situations I feel like the wired freedom and e-cells five star look suuuuper fun!
I'm enjoying your 2024 Wired Freedom Range Test - Worst Case Scenario. I ordered the Wired Freedom on the 6th of this month. I'm watching every bit of video footage that I come across that pertains to this bike. After I've honored the warranty, bedded the brakes, a host of other things and in general gotten comfortable and familiar with the bike, like you, I plan to add a second battery a year or so down the road. Thing is, I don't have the slightest idea how to do this. Is there a how to guide or video that explains how to do this? By the way, I ordered my bike in the burnt orange flavor. Thanks for listening.
Awesome! Everyone seems to be ordering that orange color, it sure looks good! I'm sure there are a few videos on how to generically add a second battery with other types of wbikes...but I have always just bought a second battery and put it in a backpack and swapped it halfway through the ride. This prevents any warranty issues and us much cheaper and easier than wiring in a new battery and adding a second mount to the bike somewhere. You're gonna love the bike, stay tuned for more!
Nice drop down the hill, i was saying do it, do it, Iwill do the same lol. great vid🙂 I am getting one of two ebikes i researched. Wired seems the way to go
I'm looking for a good fast ebike, but i'm only 5'5" and so far i love this wired bike but it doesn't like short people lol. I ride a Harley and I don't want a moped style ebike. My wife has an Aventon step thru. I can ride that but I need more power, hence why I'm looking into the wired Freedom. I wish Wired would make a 20x4 tire size as well. Love that ride, amazing scenery. Thank you for the education and the tour.
I just bought a blue Freedom a few days ago, the wait is late May… sucks, but I know this is the right bike for me. I live around Clearwater Beach area. This will be my daily driver, lol.
Ahahahaha, right? Kinda random, but that's what I love about these bikes, they are technological marvels, but allow you to also see the beauty of nature! Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!
I'm having a really difficult time trying to figure out what bike I should buy. I started looking at e-bikes because I wanted to be able to take my 5-year-old daughter out with me on bike rides. So, a couple months ago I was pretty stuck on the aventon abound cargo bike, as I was under the impression that a cargo bike would be the best kind of e-bike for passengers. Now I'm desperately wanting to purchase the wired freedom, but can't imagine a comfortable way to take my daughter along with me. I plan on purchasing a bike within the next 2 months at most, and have pretty much only waited this long because I don't know which one to get now. I loved the idea of the abound, but now I have to have the speed and power that the wired freedom provides. The real bummer here, is that even if I figured out a way to take my daughter with me on the wired freedom, it wouldn't be suitable for my wife to ride every now and then, because she's only 5 ft tall, and from everything I've read, the wired freedoms seat can only go down to about 33 inches. Hell, maybe I should just buy two $1,000 e-bikes, but I know I would get sick and tired of 750w motors, and I would just want the word freedom even more every time I looked at my subpar e-bike. So, if you could help me with any advice regarding which bike I should get, it would be much appreciated. The two things that are really important, is that it's suitable for my daughter who's almost 6 years old to ride with me on the bike, and also suitable for my 5-ft wife to ride every once in a while if she wants to. I'm 6 ft by the way! Any advice you can possibly provide me would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and one more thing! What's up with the bikes from the electric bicycle company?! My god they are beautiful!! I don't think they're practical, but they are the most attractive in my opinion! When I began researching e-bikes a few months back, I was shocked that I couldn't find hardly any content dedicated to that particular brands e-bikes here on RUclips. It's extremely difficult to find anything about them here on RUclips. Thanks again!
I know what you mean! I have a 7 year old son, so I totally get it. I would recommend getting the Wired Freedom and then maybe just try to find a used 750w bike for taking your daughter around...that way you can get the best of both worlds. I also have a Rad Rover 6+ that I use when I ride with my son. Got it new for $1,399....but you can find them for under $1,000 in great shape and even less, if you don't mind it having a little bit of wear (I see them for $500-800 all the time). This way you won't miss the power of the Freedom and the practicality of a smaller/slower ebike. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
My Titian Orange Freedom just shipped yesterday! I’m a trucker so I won’t be home when it arrives but I’m really looking forward to checking it out. The bike will be coming with me in the truck as a means to explore and get some exercise while I am on breaks. It will also serve a purpose for getting away from truck stop food and getting to local markets where the good stuff is! My plan is to tune the bike for a more gradual and tame assist. I know it ships tuned as a Class 2, I will tinker with the settings and hopefully figure out what works for me. That ability to tune the controller is what really sold me on this bike. Exercise and range when I want it or a fast commuter when needed. How are the stock Kenda tires holding up?
I would prefer it to have a torque sensor, but I'm considering one because it would be nice to ride this fast sometimes. I wish it had some better components. If they used a cassette instead of a freewheel, then upgrading the drivetrain would be possible for those like me who would like to.
For sure. It's a tough balance of keeping the price down or having better components. They chose to hit that $2k price point. I'm stoked on the top speed hydraulic brakes and full suspension.
for this high-powered wired Freedom bike which I also ride cadence sensing is best. I ride a Diamondback overdrive hardtail bike with a Bafang M635 with torque sensing and the cadence sensing is better for instant power.
Absolutely! It is also much easier to keep the top speed without needing to wear yourself out cranking hard, especially if the bike has a smaller front chainring that basically makes you ghost pedal after about 25 to 30 mph.
Would it be worth testing the total range if you stayed to PAS 2 or 3? Like a Real world example of riding with other bikes that do not have as high of a top speed etc. This bike is #1 on my list but my wife will prob have something smaller and less capable as she won't want to go as fast but wants to go far. I'll save the 30+ speeds for solo trips.
Perhaps the 52V cutoff is a limitation of the controller because there are 48V systems. I wonder if there is some kind of software or hardware work around, hmmm. I will look into this to be sure. Perhaps I will call up Steve, he is a friend of mine by now. Thanks! Dave
It might be possible, but considering it goes up to 67 volts when full, I don't think that is the reason. Also, the controller can be set up to handle a variety of batteries and cells for the P5 setting. Doing the math, 48 to 52 volts would put each cell at about 3.0v, which is very low. I think this cutoff is to protect the longevity of the battery cells. The deeper the discharge, the shorter the battery life over time. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Let me know if you hear anything from Steve about this, I'm interested!
I shut down a you can't get exercise on an eBike thanks to my torque sensor on my Hovsco. I prefer throttle and torque sensor but a torque/cadence sensor would be cool.
I heard you talking a bit about mid drives compared to hub and I agree with you that I prefer both hub and cadence for the reasons you mentioned (get to speed quicker, no gear chgs, and light pedaling = good power) but I thought I ask if youve heard of the Pinion MGU mid drive gearbox/drivetrain system. I think if I could afford one of those I might prefer mid drive, but they only seem to be employed on weak 20mph bikes? Whats your, or anyone else here, thoughts?
I'd say mid drive is best for heavy offroading/downhill applications or if you want to be able to multiply the motors torque/power...but at that comes the risk of breaking the chain/belt drive. What type of riding do you do, or want to do with the mid drive?
@@leetjohnson Oh Im a mix. Road/commute during the week with some offroad on the weekend but no heavy downhill mountain type stuff. I have the Freedom on the way, and a chinese special that are both hub drive, but I recently saw a really innovative design from a company named Pinion and it they made a gearbox/drivetrain combo (about the size of a baofang mid drive) and it completely removes the regular bicycle type shumano cassette and derailleur so the rear tire is clean! Instead of relying on a bike chain to manage all that power, there was a geared belt. The whole unit looks nice (and prob too good to be true, or affordable) plus it can runs semiautomatically... The problem though (beside price of course) is they only appear to be equipped on Euro 20mph bikes but Id like to see a version of that made for more power. Heres a link if your curious ruclips.net/video/pHkrEpm5hcA/видео.html (jump over the fluff to 0:40 or so). Its really cool and made me wonder if one day I may prefer a midrive unit like that as I do NOT want the ones that rely on bike chain and standard bike gears ya know. Anyway, thanks for the reply, sorry for bombarding you with all this. If your not interested, no biggy!
What about the "new" 2024 Wired Freedom with dual piston calipers, 203 rotors, dual batteries 60watt 15ah with a 45amp controller due out June 2024 plus many other upgrades for the same price?
I guess you throttle I don't use the sensors.I haven't tried to get torque sensor but I like it better but I don't have no use for the cable center.I use my throttle and blend.I wish the throttles had longer throw. And weren't you know from 0 to full throttle and in a quarter of a rotation?I wish it that was a little farther but i'm getting precise with it
Torque sensor with throttle that gives full power. Use throttle for take off in Pos 1 gear 1 or 2. Bet your hands would take a beating in a 45 mph crash. Like the test you did.
@@leetjohnsonYou are one of the only reviewers that correctly address battery health and state of charge. If you normally charge to 80% and don’t go below 20%, you will get several thousand cycles and the battery will last for years and tens of thousands of miles, yet another benefit of having a very large battery. The bike companies don’t want you to know this as they want to sell extra batteries. I think the contoller has low voltage cutoff setting set at 52v that is adjustable and the battery BMS is lower around 48v. With voltage sag, the controller setting would protect the battery if the battery BMS failed or wasn’t present.
@@jfly2249 you are correct regarding the bms cutoff being lower than the controller setting. For battery longevity reasons, I won't modify the 52v cutoff, but it's awesome that it can be modified in the controller. Thanks for watching and the comments, I really appreciate it!!
Interesting! This is the first I have heard of the older model having the sensor! Do you remember what month you ordered/took delivery? Maybe you were lucky and got the newer motor before they changed the design. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it!
Yeah, I thought you should break in half. Cause Southern's totally different than Northern California's. Like 2 states, it's like 2 different places, you know.
Great video, nice to know the worst case range. Would definitely like to see a video on suspension adjustments (I'm 6'4" 215 lbs, so I expect I'll need some). I have the orange color Wired Freedom on order, and watching your videos makes the waiting even more painful 😁. A couple of questions for you: 1 - Do you know if there is an online version of the manual available? 2 - In your previous video about the settings, I have a question about P3. Your video states that P3 = 2 will set the throttle to PAS level limited. I think CitizenCycle had a video where P3 = 0 for this selection. Do you know which one is right? Looking forward to your next Wired Freedom video.
Awesome! I haven't been able to find any manual online. There are a few groups on Facebook (so I have heard, I don't have Facebook myself) that have a ton of information posted, but not the entire manual. The orange looks amazing, I almost got that color too. As far as the P3 setting, I believe that 1 is full power and 2 is limited by the PAS setting. P4 is the one where 0 is throttle always on and 1 is throttle only works while pedaling (basically only once the bike gets going, like a scooter, where you can have throttle from a stop or throttle once you hit a few mph. This is mostly a safety feature ((P4)) so that you don't accidentally twist the throttle when moving the bike around by the handles and not actually sitting on the bike and ready to ride). Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Yes I've downloaded one thats pdf like a month ago. Found it online, I searched "wired fr4eedom manual" and found it quickly but couldn't tell you where. It's got a lot of pages that tell you everything like all the correct settings etc.
Great review! I was wondering what your top speed was when the battery was around 50%? I live in Florida by the beach and don’t have too many hills or bike paths like you have. My runs are usually high speed throttle on pavement. Thanks for the video!
Very informative! I’m thinking about getting into Ebiking. Looks like fun. I also like the Wired Freedom 2024. Just curious to keep motor heat down would it help to put an ice pack around the battery mgr. Not sure of the part real name. By the way I’m also 6' 3” and weigh 225 also. So your test fit me to a T. Thanks joe
Awesome, you'll love ebiking! Nah, you don't need to do anything to the motor or controller....it won't overheat, at least mine hasn't so far! Worse case, just let it cool for a few minutes and you'll be good to go!
First off, great video! I just got my wired freedom 2 days ago...I love it!!! I live in Huntington Beach, Ca and cruising is perfect! I do have a question. Is there a way to unlock the higher MPH, but yet reduce the amount of power that comes out in the lower gears??? When I give it a small amount of throttle it wants to wheelie... it's got some kick... But I like to throttle start at traffic lights, but as of now I need to really focus on twisting slow and delicate while slightly leaning forward...that's a pain... please let me know of there is a setting for that...Thanks bro! Again awesome video...
Thank you!! Try setting your C5 setting to 2 for full power but a slower ramp-up that is more controllable. Let me know of this helps!! Check out my menu setting video for more tips on setting up your menu settings too!
Would be great to use the Wired Freedom electric bike and see if it can make it through the entire shoreline of Lake Tahoe with some battery remaining.
Flipping "Worst Case Scenario"... My "Best Case Scenario" for a 5'11", 170lb rider is 82.1 miles with 55.6 Volts left. It took me almost 7 hours with AVG speed of 12mph. I can't post pictures in replies, but anyone is welcome to reach out to me for more details. :-)
Thanks for the review. I finally found someone with a similar weight so the numbers (range, speed, hill climbing) will be relatable. I do have a couple of questions. my longer range rides are mostly flat and a lot on bike trails, so speed is 15 - 20. have you ever done a long range test ride at low and slow. also have you ever done a 12% grade for .3 -.5 miles. will it pull your weight up that hill? I realize these are specific questions and you may not have had any reason to try this, but I thought I'd ask
You are welcome! Yes, my next video will be a low and slow ride!! I have done steep hills, and as long as you are in pedal assist 4 or 5 it has no problems. If you are in pedal assist 1 or 2 on steep hills, it will struggle a bit due to the very large front chainring (helps for higher speeds and prevents ghost pedaling, but not as good for steep hills). Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!
@@leetjohnson I’ll need to get out there one day and give it a ride. My Freedom was supposed to be delivered before Thanksgiving. Now, it’s mid January.
Are there any restrictions on these E bikes? Well Police pull you over if riding over some speed limits, then confiscate the bike. Do you need some kind of license or even insurance. Which i sure will happen once you have people not following road laws. Important questions to ask. Great video.
@craigyoung4068 The power button is to turn the battery on and off. It is best to charge the batteries when they are off, and it ensures the battery won't delete when not in use.
I love the videos! Thanks for the info. I live in Rio Linda, so I was wondering who I should contact for repairs or maintenance if there are any issues. Hopefully someone here locally in Sacramento. Thanks
Great video. Exactly what I wanted to see on this particular E-bike. If I didnt push the top speed, hiw many extra miles do you think I'd get at about 25-30 mph? I'll be using this to commute about 25 miles each way. I plan on having two batteries for the round trip.
Depending on rider weight and terrain, I'd say at least 35 to 45 miles. If you stayed on PAS 1 or 2 and pedaled a lot, you could probably get up to 60 miles range.
Great question. I used to ride Supercell 8s all the time on my other fat tire ebikes and absolutely loved them. Great handling/cornering, silent ride and very low rolling resistance!
I have Origin8 Supercells on both my 2024 Freedom and Cruiser. The bikes run extremely quiet and they're 2mph quicker as there's less rolling resistance. Great bikes!
im Darryl from Australia and it seems that wired dont ship to Australia .shame cause im 6.3 100kg and love the bike. i think its the only bike i like .
It is a bummer that wired doesn't ship outside of the US...there are a lot of people in Canada and Europe that would love to order this bike but can't. Maybe one day the company will start to ship internationally.
Running these type batteries very low is bad for longevity of it from fully charging it. Always remember 80% - 20% and you'll have a happy long lasting ebike battery.
Great question! I haven't spent a lot of time in PAS 1, but from what I recall, and depending on rider weight and terrain (up or down hill) it will go about 10-12mph.
I just ordered one yesterday in black, can't wait to get it. I'm thinking of switching the stem and handlebars out to a lower, wider more aggressive cockpit position for off roading and keeping front end planted while going up the steep hills of the SF East Bay Area where i live. Could you please tell me how tall and wide those BMX handlebars are, also what size is the steerer tube diameter? Looks pretty standard, but I'm already researching these modifications. Might switch pedals out too to clipless on one side so can still get a good workout while pedaling. Thank You!!! Go NINERS!!!! : )
Ok, so the handlebars are (from handlebars edge to edge) 30 inches. The rise of the bars from the bottom of the lower horizontal tube to the top handlebar tube is 8 inches. The opening of the steerer tube slot is 1¼ inches (steerer tube itself is 1⅛ inches). Hope this helps!

I’m about your height and weight have you thought about getting an extra battery and the DateX2 from England and wiring both batteries together it’ll give you even more speed, and unbelievable range. I did it to my last bike, which I sold it turned it into a beast.
Torque sensors are not good on high power rear hubs as the bike surges with every downstroke. The constant wattage approach is really the best. Really well done video btw!
Thank you!!
Most good torque sensor controllers combine cadence sensors with the torque sensor as well to eliminate surging.
Instead of having 1 powerful hub, it's best to have that power distributed to 2 hubs....
@@cicada9471 but that drives the cost up. I do not want to pay more for two hubs. I'll pay the same, but not more...
Oh thanks for the information
I bought the blue 2024 wired bike and have had it for three weeks . I’m 6’2 and weigh 217. I live in Bellingham, Wa and ride it every morning at 6am for coffee. I bought a second light mounted on my helmet for the dark mornings as the stock light isn’t sufficient for the non lighted trails. This bike flies especially with peddle assist going up hill- as there are plenty of hills in Bellingham. Definitely enjoy this bike. Glad I bought it

I'm looking at the Engwe x26 and this bike because like you, I'm 6'3 and probably 100lbs heavier. Any recommendations on which would be better?
@Dudemeister-id9mw depends if you want the top speed or not. Engwe is good, but I think for a bigger, heavier rider, the Freedom would fit you better and have much more power for hills.
Awesome! Thank you for the information, I really appreciate that!
I had mine in blue for about a week. The motor temp is reading 214 degrees with the ambient temp at 74 degrees during my last couple of rides. I checked by touch. It didn't feel like 212 degrees. Of course, I checked the settings in the program. Has anyone else experienced this? Great vids!
I can’t wait to get my Wired Freedom! I ordered white but it was a tough decision. They all look great.
Awesome!!!
Wait till June 2024, this bike will be gone via newest version...
Great video. I have also been testing the range on my new Wired Freedom. I am a much heavier rider and on Petal Assist one, going around 17 mph with minimal throttle I get 30 miles. Which is very good. I ride more for exercise.
That's awesome! How long have you had the bike? Is it the 2023 or the 2024 version?
65 miles plus range in my 2024 Wired Freedom
Okay, I changed my settings in a attempt to maximize my range.
@randym8529 I'm currently filming a pas 1 ride....my butt regrets it! At 40.8 miles currently, 3 bars left!!!!
@@randym8529 there is a way to set the throttle to match the pas levels.
I’m getting around 24 miles with mine. Dual battery and everything maxed out. Couple of medium hills and the extra weight of a surfboard and rack.
@@twister4489 interesting! I would have expected a bit more with the dual batteries.

Thanks for sharing! I really love that ebikes allow people to explore and get out....Definitely one of my favorite aspects of the technology.
I'd love to see a throttle-only range test. I'd like to get one of these to commute to work, and would love to keep it over 30mph on throttle only since I don't want to get sweaty.

Awesome! You're gonna love it!!
Right on!
See my best case scenario range test on pas 1 only....I got 72 miles. This was pas 5 and throttle only for the worst case scenario.
29 miles at pretty-much full power is impressive. And its still doing 25mph on the flats with the battery empty. But I think that temperature sensor is what really sold me on this bike. Only wish it didn't take a couple of months to get the sucker!
It's worth the wait!!!!

It’s a KILLER commuter / bike for long adventures, but for certain rides and situations I feel like the wired freedom and e-cells five star look suuuuper fun!

Look up Adams Trail-a-bike for your daughter.....connects to any bike....just a thought
That's awesome!!! The tires are doing great, just one nail in the tire
I could definitely do that. Citizen cycle here on RUclips made that exact video. I believe he got around 40 to 50 miles.
I'm not looking to buy one (not legal in the UK) but very enjoyable video nonetheless. Thank you.
Thank you!

I guess you throttle I don't use the sensors.I haven't tried to get torque sensor but I like it better but I don't have no use for the cable center.I use my throttle and blend.I wish the throttles had longer throw. And weren't you know from 0 to full throttle and in a quarter of a rotation?I wish it that was a little farther but i'm getting precise with it
Yeah, I do use throttle a lot.
Torque sensor with throttle that gives full power. Use throttle for take off in Pos 1 gear 1 or 2. Bet your hands would take a beating in a
45 mph crash. Like the test you did.
I agree. That would be a great combination.
your battery has a bms that cuts at 53 volts. setting is c-12. you can not hurt the battery with the factory setting in place.
Correct! I should have mentioned that, I meant that the deeper you discharge, the less total cycles you can get out of the battery.
Didn't think I'll watch the entire thing... But I did! Lol
Awesome!!
My 2023 cruiser has the motor temperature, I changed it from 0 to 1 and bang it was there.
Interesting! This is the first I have heard of the older model having the sensor! Do you remember what month you ordered/took delivery? Maybe you were lucky and got the newer motor before they changed the design. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it!
@@leetjohnson I picked my bike up in August at there warehouse .
I ordered an extra battery and it was the 2023 style .
@@ringss12 Interesting!!! Thanks again for sharing that!
@@leetjohnson Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 🙂
Yeah, I thought you should break in half.

A couple of questions for you:
1 - Do you know if there is an online version of the manual available?
@@dawhoda1 Awesome!
@@dawhoda1 Still haven't found this. I did see a 8 page manual for a Wired ebike conversion kit, but not the Wired Freedom manual.
Citizen ran it hard, no pedaling, 71.6 miles. The new one has DUAL batteries.
I saw that!! So sick!!
Are we gonna see that train coming coming down the track 13:11
That would be cool!!
Great review! I was wondering what your top speed was when the battery was around 50%? I live in Florida by the beach and don’t have too many hills or bike paths like you have. My runs are usually high speed throttle on pavement. Thanks for the video!
It drops down to about 36 mph or so at half charge.
Awesome thanks for the answer.
Thanks!
You are very welcome!
Thank you so much!!!!
@@leetjohnson This worked most excellent!! I watched your video specifically on the settings... great stuff... thanx
@@johnbullet2223 you are very welcome!
Would be great to use the Wired Freedom electric bike and see if it can make it through the entire shoreline of Lake Tahoe with some battery remaining.
That's a great idea!!
Awesome!
Great content!!! Can’t wait to get my Freedom. Been patiently waiting a long time. Are you sure there are Redwood Trees there? I would be surprised.
Thank you! 100% tbey are Redwoods and Oaks...I live in Nor Cal.
@@leetjohnson I’ll need to get out there one day and give it a ride. My Freedom was supposed to be delivered before Thanksgiving. Now, it’s mid January.
@Doc.Holiday it's beautiful out here! That wait is so tough, I waited like 2 to 3 months and it felt like 2 or 3 years! Lol
Just received it! 18-Jan
@@Doc.Holiday Woo hoo!!!!
Are there any restrictions on these E bikes? Well Police pull you over if riding over some speed limits, then confiscate the bike. Do you need some kind of license or even insurance. Which i sure will happen once you have people not following road laws. Important questions to ask. Great video.
I've never had any issues. As long as the bike has pedals and you aren't being dangerous, riding like an idiot, you shouldn't have a problem.
@@leetjohnson Thanks 👍🏻
I've owned wired freedom, and Ecells five-star and Ecells makes the better bike, and the customer support is way better
@@curtseth7995 I appreciate the feedback!
He said im a bigger dude..... bro i was thinking you talking about 250-320 big.
6'3" 225lbs...not huge, but definitely not average.
Yeah, II mean, I knew it, you helped confirm it. I'm gonna need 2 or 3 of these things. There's As bad as guitars.
They sure are! If you do decide to get one, please use the link in the description box of this video, it really helps out and I'd appreciate it!
I just got a 2024 Wired Freedom and have a question about the second battery. There is a power button on it. What is the power button for?
@craigyoung4068 The power button is to turn the battery on and off. It is best to charge the batteries when they are off, and it ensures the battery won't delete when not in use.
I love the videos! Thanks for the info. I live in Rio Linda, so I was wondering who I should contact for repairs or maintenance if there are any issues. Hopefully someone here locally in Sacramento. Thanks
Thank you! Some bike repair shops will work on them, and some won't. Mostly depends on what you need to have done to the bike.
18:25 If I was there, I'd be saying do it. Do it and if you make it, I might decide. I'd go or not. You know.
👍
It looks like if you used pedal assist 3 you may be able to run 50 MI.
Sounds about right!
As someone who is 5 foot 6 inches tall do you think I will be uncomfortable with the size of the bike ?
It may feel a little big to you, but still rideable.
Love everything about this bike except the cheap shifter. They couldn't use a Trigger shifter?
To be honest, I almost never change the gears anyway, with all the power it has.
Great video. Wonder how the bike would feel with less aggressive tires? Noise is terrible! Riding an Aventon with city tires that are silent.
100% correct....I mentioned this exact 80/20 rule in this video.
@@leetjohnsondid you lol, my bad, it's a long vid so I take breaks

On PAS 1- what is the lowest speed limit you can set? In other words, on PAS 1 - How fast will you be going in the lowest setting? Thanks
Great question! I haven't spent a lot of time in PAS 1, but from what I recall, and depending on rider weight and terrain (up or down hill) it will go about 10-12mph.
what are your thoughts on tubeless tires for this bike?
Probably not a bad idea.
I know it says max range is 80 miles on their website; is that true?
I got 72 miles on my best case scenario range test...check it out! That's at 225lbs too
I just ordered one yesterday in black, can't wait to get it. : )
I'll check when I get home and let you know!
Thank you!!!!! : )@@leetjohnson
