- Today, we are going to check and test out the Reolink E1 Outdoor which is a pan and tilt camera and also has a 3x optical zoom. It has spotlights for color night vision at night and has 5MP video quality. Madison, if LH is not the best, he sure is one of the best out there. I subscribed when I think he was at less than 10K or 20K subscribers I think and due to his reviews, I have been able to make my home surveillance decision purchases and now my home has more surveillance cameras than the "White House" :) You've come to LH and his reviews are not biased and as he states it the merchant product giveaway does not come with strings attached. He tells it like it is.

Great review, I have the same camera but have experienced different results with the tracking. If the person walks slow it tracks great but if your an Amazon delivery person and moving fast it can't keep up and just stops tracking. Did you have any issues on fast people tracking?
I have 2 Reolink Lumus and both cameras' leds have quit working. I am curious with this E1 camera. I like the features-pan,tilt, people and car detections. Although, the night vision in both color and black&white looks blurry and indeed Lumus wins in this. it's a bit of shame considering the 5MP and all the features this camera has.
I saw your comment reply that Reolink is working on improving the night vision quaity of E1. I hope they will get it done asap.
Can't wait for you to review the REOLINK 823A PTZ cam when available. I heard they will finally be available to order next month and maybe a surprise release on amazon within the next 2 weeks.

This is pretty good! How is the wifi connection at 5MP? Optical zoom is nice too, you will be able to see license plates with this. Night vision needs some improvement though, you can only see license plates and people clearly during the day. Also, no wind buffeting noise from the mic, probably because the mic is protected with a foam cover similar to pro mics to eliminate wind buffeting.
Your channel has come a long way! I got a reolink nvr system a couple years ago based on one of your reviews. Still running solid. I do have a quick question. What cell phone works better with your security apps? Currently have Samsung s10 but I'm due for a new phone.

Can you suggest one like this that has better FPS at night? I like it all except for the blurry night part. You did not say if it can be set to a higher frame rate if the tracking is turned off or with the color turned off.
At the end of the video, when you were showing routing the cable through the eaves, you inserted a white plug in the hole to seal the wire. is that small plug included with the kit?

Question: This Reolink E1 Outdoor cam has all the features I want and the ability to connect to 5G Wifi (Hard to find that) But, do you know of a camera like this that is Battery/Solar powered so that I don't have to run wires all over the house?! *Looking for totally wireless and wirefree!

Hi Lifehackster, how's the reliability during power outages? I live in an area with several power outages a month and I'm strugglong to find a great outdoor camera that doesn't require 4g/5g cellular data. Does the SD card upload lost video during the outage to the cloud once connection is reestablished?

I’d like to ask you about recording and PIR . So I just bought E1 outdoor about 2 days ago (I really like it) but I think there’s a issue about detecting person recording,for example I was walking around and the camera were follow me perfect (every single move I was followed) received notification on my phone straight away. Now , when I checked on cloud I can’t see any recording of my movements . Everything I can see is just when I went away (just about 2-3 seconds recording). I’d like to mention that I was walking over a minute.

I do have a question - on my older Reolink wi-fi one and the E1 zoom, in the Device Setting under Network it has a section for Email where you can select Picture (or Video or None) as an Attachment.. I'm wondering if this E1 Outdoor has that setting also. Thanks again for everything you do. :)
There is an email option on the settings but you have to go through setting up the email and it is not showing option for video or pic yet. I don't setup email notification on mine.

@@LifeHackster I got mine yesterday. In case anyone else is interested, once the email section is setup, you can choose to have a Picture attached to the email, so all is well there. Thanks again. :)
The email is delayed by almost 5 minutes sometimes. Way too long.
@@lounv Email for notification is not going to be reliable or timely because there are a lot of factors involved like how often the email servers refreshes and also how often your phone fetches email from the server. The same thing if you are in a computer browser..the refresh is not instantaneous. Phone or app notifications are still the fastest.
Is the camera also automatically zooming while tracking? Or can the zoom be used only for the live view?

When I hook this up directly to my reolink nvr I lost the ability to turn the light on via the that. Did you connect to an nvr? do you have any issues???

E1 Outdoor was first advertized with auto tracking. But now it's not shown as part of the specs. If you buy one it may not have auto tracking. I bought one several months ago. It did not have auto tracking. I was able to download a different firmware version that had it but I don't know if it's still available on Reolink site. Auto tracking works but sometimes stops far left/right and won't go back to preset position. I have to manually use the PTZ control to put it back to preset position. It also gets a little out of preset alignment sometimes and I have to recalibrate it. I hope Reolink fixes this with new firmware update. Also, it cannot look 90% straight down so it can't track someone walking directly underneath it close to a wall or around a corner. I agree the night vision isn't great, blurry with movement. I wish it was POE. Overall it's a good fun inexpensive PTZ camera and I like all the things it can do. Thanks LifeHackster for another great informative video. I want to buy a Reolink 823A PTZ when it's released assuming the auto tracking is dependable.
I have no auto track on my 2 units as well. Same experience with returning to presets and the poor night vision.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I did receive comments about losing the set positions. I hope Reolink addresses these issues and improve it. As to night vision, the Reolink Duo has way better night footage quality and about the same daytime quality and can be a better option. I might actually do a comparison.
Will you be reviewing the new 4K POE version of this camera?
I have some news like others from Reolink. I'm having problems with this model only. It has an absurd delay and I'm not using wifi, it's connected directly to the intelbras nvd, I've tried to connect it to a switch and then nvd. As the day goes on, the delay will increase. After they come back without delay I can't figure out the problem. Anything going through this?

I purchased this camera which is supposedly a 5mp HD camera.....Therefore, my concern is with the SD cards, Should I better invest to purchase a Sandisk Extreme Plus microSDXC UHS-I card or will i be overspending unnecessarily because it does not take advantage of the extreme card capabilites and I am better of purchasing a SanDisk 128GB Ultra MicroSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 120MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, Micro SD Card??? This same question applies as well towards the Reolink Argus PT camera (1080P) and the indoor agains the window Panasonic Homehawk camera (1080P) . I hope you can clarify my concerns....thanks.

Could you please do your detection distance tests at night as well. I purchased 3 Wi-Fi Reolink cameras and they are almost useless for any detection further than 10 feet at night.

I'm having trouble with the Reolink app it was easy to set up. Then something come up so i had to leave it...now I'm back to setting the camera up.I cannot get the app to work I reinstalled it but it's just doing daft things. Can you advise me on how to set up the app as if i was doing it for the 1st time. I would appreciate any ideas gratefully 🙏
After this review I bought the camera, I like the functions but the tracking only works in pan and not tilt so isn’t great and rain seems to set it off all the time. Really disappointed with the tracking not able to tilt.

Reolink does the opposite, you mark out the areas you don't want to be notified about.
Does anyone know if rich notifications will ever come to Reolink? Have they ever replied to this question?

I bought 12 cameras from Imou, 8 Cruiser 4mp and 4 Turret 2Mp, I struggle with fault alarms when it gets dark from lights from cars hitting my house and when it is raining or there is moisture in the air :-(
I'm looking for something else wifi cameras that do not come with the false alarms is that Reolink e1 outdoor I should buy?

LifeHackster, the Reolink E1 outdoor camera link to Amazon takes your viewers to purchase the one without auto tracking which is not the same which you reviewed. I hope not to be wrong in that small detail.

Do you plan to review the new Ring Alarm base with Eero 6 integrated? Just wondering if it is worth the upgrade. To me, might be, just to add a 4th Eero to my system and could have the base wired. But, still don't know how worth it would be.
I am not sure yet but I might make a video talking about it. One thing that I need to verify is if old users will be grandfathered in because of their new pricing.
@@LifeHackster Yes. The new pricing is only if you go with the second tier of monitoring, which includes the internet backup (if your internet goes down, with an internet outage or so), the new base station can provide wifi to the cameras until your internet kicks back in (if you don’t have power outage to the cameras). That’s the only thing that makes it cost extra. If you keep your current plan, you can just use the new base station for an additional “Eero” and that’s it. That’s my understanding. Looking forward for all your videos. Thanks!
I am a senior and live on my own I bought the one for indoor use but I don’t know how to use it I have no one to help me I plug it in and I got the app on my iPhone I can see it where I want to be placed it doesn’t rotate on his home and I also put the SD card in it too but it doesn’t record anything I really need it 24/7 I don’t trust where I live in my community I need help do I have to pay in order to use this? I have to check but Reolink support confirmed this that it is not PoE on their Amazon listing.
i am wondering why i bought 4 lumus now after seeing this video... almost the same price :P, though I have to say the Lumus is doing a pretty good job now.
I was looking for a Reolink camera that I could put outdoor to track hummingbirds from my wife by any chance with this one do it or is there another one that would that you know of?
The tracking on Reolink cameras are currently only for dogs and cats. I don't think it will be able to track birds.
I see 2.5 sec delay between changes in the scene and my 5mpx preview. Additionally image gets frozen every minute or so for few sec. Cable /wifi does not have an impact here.
Hikvision delay is 0.9sec.
It's not ideal for sure, and I'm not confident its good enough either.

No. Subscription is only to have a backup of motion events in the cloud.

How is the reolink now after two years?
I've always wondered from these videos... it seems that when the camera is tracking there is a noise captured by the camera microphone. How noticeable is this when you are using the backyard? I wouldn't like to have a camera making a bunch of sounds because it's tracking people while I'm just enjoying the backyard with my kids.
With this model, you can hear it and can be annoying.
