For detection distance, it is worth considering false alarm rates. It is uncommon to use max sensitivity as high sensitivity gives a lot of false alarms, especially for bugs during night time.
I have been setting them up even the one that I use in max detection but with person detection…little to no false notifications. Depending on the flying bugs on IR can simulate human shapes which can trigger it but it seldom does in my case.
I have several of the E1's and and one I have in a sunny exposed location(roofline no shade) always starts losing focus after a few weeks and unable to restore proper focus(image always blurry), even after taking inside, letting it cool off inside a few days and resetting to factory initialization. I think the heat and/or humidity breaks whatever focus mechanism is inside, even when I have set to no auto-focus or tracking. Other locations with shade, the out-of-focus issue has not occurred. Going to try the Reolink Duo 2 wi-fi model as a substitute, mainly as a fixed position and focus camera to avoid the focus/blurry issue, even though the giant wi-fi antennas makes this a more conspicuous camera looking like 'chappy' the robot. Thanks for the great and thorough reviews.
This is consistent with my findings from my March 2021 video that included the first E1 Outdoor. The gearing on the Pan and Tilt unit is not robust enough, and the homing process after power loss is not precise enough to have repeatable preset positions.
Here is my experience with the Reolink E1 Outdoor camera and Reolink themselves so potential purchasers know what to expect long term. First impressions were great until I set the camera up, I use it to monitor my front door and the path leading up to it, I have the camera set up to track people, to be IR at night and the spotlight to come on if triggered. I have the Reolink viewing software on my laptop and the App on my Android phone. Firstly right out of the box the camera has an issue, I set a monitor point which is where the camera returns to after tracking someone, problem is it doesn't return to that spot, it returns a few degree's off, so after a while instead of monitoring the path to my front patio, it is monitoring my front yard or the brick wall. Contacted reseller and had them replaced with brand new ones....same issue. Countless emails to Reolink, updating firmware and explaining the issue results in being told nothing they can do, I just have to keep adjusting it, not what I want to have to do every other day. Then comes the issues with the viewer, I get a notification to update it, so I do, only to have it now show me a blank screen, again after countless emails back and forth, I have to revert to the old software, which still to this day more than 12 months later there is no fix for. Then I find the spotlight comes on when triggered which was a security feature I wanted and set it to do, but then it randomly decides if it will turn off or stay on, mostly staying on, at times I'm sure it was on all night, this I'm told needs a firmware update, which I did and for now has worked, but this has not resolved the monitor point issue or the viewing software update and I'm waiting to see how long the spotlight issue is fixed for. My experience with Reolink has been the worst, they refuse to fix the problems, instead just tie me up with countless back and forth emails where I constantly say fix the problems or refund me, they refuse to refund me because I purchased from a reseller not them direct, instead offering to give me a discount if I buy another problem product of theirs, or an offer to maybe replace them if it is within the 2 years warranty, which they are out of warranty and I have told them that, but the issues I have had have been whilst they were in warranty and they kept fobbing me off. So if you want a camera that will offer you the security you want from a tracking camera, this is definitely not the product for you and I would recommend looking elsewhere. As for Reolink themselves, they are painfully frustrating to deal with and can only offer firmware updates as a solution if you have problems with their products, if the problem cannot be solved with this update, then it can't be solved.ere is my experience with the Reolink E1 Outdoor camera and Reolink themselves so potential purchasers know what to expect long term.
I bought it, and I had a sound problem the audio was muffled as if there was sound detection going on. Have you encountered this issue with the camera or not? Now, after seeing your video, I'm hesitant. Is it worth replacing this camera when I already have an E1 outdoor 5-megapixel? Thank you 😀
I have the cheaper E1 version in my kitchen and it has the same return to home point drift issue. But it has never been a big issue because it doesn't auto track. But I do have it set to auto return to the monitor point and after a few days it will need to be reset if I let it auto return. But if I force a return to the monitor point, it will not drift. I suspect the E1s are using potentiometers to detect the position of the motors and the trackmix and 823A are using a type of hall effect sensor, being they are way more precise.
Great review and thorough/detailed and it covered all my concern about purchase this. Might just go for regular 830 series ptz that has proven to be more stable.
Hi @LifeHackster, two months ago Reolink released a new firmware. May you kindly test this camera again and check if you still have the same issues? Thanks. Regards.
I've had the WiFi/POE version for almost a year. It has been fine except the tracking died after a few months so I just keep it in a fixed position. The other issue (which I don't have with my Arlo and EZ-Viz) cameras is that wasps love to go up to it and they always trigger a notification. Very trying in the warm months. EDIT: After posting I saw that the next 4 or 5 commenters had the same problem.😳
not surprised, as many other said specially on service installers, they always said that reolink is the one is a must to avoid, if they actually see one, they always says a heads-up to the owner that they dont take responsibility on those cams and instead exchange it with a good one.
I've been using Reolink 4K cams with AI for about two years, no hardware failures with the 4k cams I have. I think every security camera brand has had occasional problems with hardware or firmware bugs. Some of the major installer companies push their own brand or brands they have contracted with and may require monthly fees, Reolink subscriptions are optional.
@@LifeHacksteri there.. I had same issues.. but I founded out it was related to reboot ( in my case ), and auto reboot option only shows up when access web interface, so a turned off. Anyway firware update should fixed.
Can you please tell me, (or make a video), what you think which Reolink cameras are best overall for wired home security? For wanting to cover each corner/side of the house, while also keeping it all reolink for the sake of not paying multiple subscriptions? I am considering the cameras that rotate but, I am not sure if those are worse compared to the “static” ones. I want everything wired and local recording. I love your channel and you are my go-to security camera guy! Thank you for making such awesome videos! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Best will be quite subjective but I use 822a in the front areas and an original duo for the backyard. I have a 520 non-ai for my side gate and an 820a in my garage as well. The duo is actually the WiFi version but the rest are PoE. Everything connects to my PoE switch and records to their NVR 24/7 along with motion events to the sd cards. While not perfect, I have very few complaints. I went for high field of view to reduce cameras so for higher quality but more focused areas I’m sure there’s other options. I also pay no subscriptions.
I have E1 Outdoor wifi version, and the preset position worked fine for half a year, last week I noticed the issue of it losing track of the preset position, very similar to your camera, the camera would turn all the to the back side facing the wall instead of facing the front, and now I am turning off auto tracking and making it a static camera. Hopefully, Reolink can fix this problem with a software update.
Wow.. Thanks for the info. I almost bought one for my home security so, If I dont have the tracking mode working properly, better off on regular static camera right? Reolink messed up on this model.
Would you consider this a upgrade for the indoor ptz 5mp camera? The current indoor ptz lacks resolution when zoomed in. I could see it used for that type of solution because it doesn't come close to a TrackMix quilty.
Do you think this would work well indoors with the auto tracking turned off? The static FOV of this one seems about right for my room size and I need a small one to place on a bookshelf in my living room but trying to stay away from WIFI. This seems to hit all the marks and i would NOT be using the pan tilt options, especially if that seems to be what's messing with focus issues?
I have the WiFi version. Same issues with the monitor point. Running latest firmware. Overall not impressed with the e1 outdoor WiFi version. Was expecting same performance as my track mix Thought about Poe version but now will not get. I'm going to return mine.
I seriously considered this camera for a specific location where I don't need the 8MP resolution of the TrackMix, which for some strange reason does not allow you to select different resolutions. After watching some RUclips videos I'm glad I passed on it. I have the 5MP E1 Pro indoor and it has the same crappy audio where it sounds like the camera is underwater. I passed on the E1 Zoom because just like this camera the auto focus was slow and unreliable, especially at night. I can't believe that after the screw-up with the motor noise on the 823A that Reolink would not isolate the motor noise on a new model, and I see this camera still has the herky-jerky panning Reolink is known for. Why no tilt on auto tracking is a mystery to me because with the camera mounted up out of reach it needs to tilt downward when someone approaches. This camera seems like a fail for Reolink on more than one level. On a related note, I have four TrackMix cameras and one of them has a similar problem where it looses the accuracy of its preset positions by a large margin. If I perform a calibration then all of the presets are where they were originally set, but out of the blue they will be messed up again. This is not the first TrackMix I had this problem with, I had the same problem with another one that I sent back. Since the current camera with this problem is in an area where this is not a critical issue, I'm using it as-is but I still wonder if it is a manufacturing defect since I had it happen on two cameras.
Hey LifeHackster does the camera track while in patrol mode? My RLC-823A can only do one or the other not both making it almost useless to me. At night it will turn on spotlight when something is detected then turn to other direction.
Hi @LifeHackster, if I do not want to use microsd card instead, can we link E1 (not E1 pro) to NVR & start store recoding in NVR instead of se card? Any advice?
Yes, you can. If you plug in the camera directly to the NVR, it will record to the NVR but if you are powering it via PoE, just search for the camera on the NVR's interface and add it from there.
E1 Outdoor gear inaccuracy has been a known problem since it's release. I was wondering if Reolink would change the plastic gears or the motor of the POE version to improve it, apparently they haven't yet. I had a E1 Outdoor wifi version non POE. It could not go back to monitor point at the same spot, would be off a few degrees. It's still a good cam for the money IMO. But it's better to just PT manually and not use the presets at all. Lightning struck close to my house a few months ago and burned out my E1 Outdoor. I also have a Reollnk 823A PTZ. It's gears are better built, no problems with presets or going back to monitor point.
I got one for my garage (protected) and sent it back after messing around for 2 days... I could not get its RTSP feed to work with my Blue Iris system. I desired the spotlight feature, but will have to do without and go back to the indoor rated E1 Zoom model I've been successfully using for more than 3 years. BTW... the 360 degree FE-W model has the same issues unfortunately. I assume Reolink changed the way they handle RTSP (they claim to support it on these models).
I am looking for something similar to the eufy S350 since that one is only for indoor use. I have no idea what the term POE is suppose to mean being new to this type of camera connectivity terminology. I am wanting to know if I am able to connect this camera only through the plug in power cord and have it operate through the wifi as the S350 can. Thanks.
One common standout - Reolink’s audio quality is the worst. And this is yet another underperforming camera of theirs at nighttime it seems. Please do a Reolink 1224a & their new CX410 review(s) soon!
I have two Reolink indoor E1 WiFi cameras and they both occasionally lose the parked preset and stored presets. It's no big deal but it is a bit frustrating.
The Reolink 823A PTZ cam is robust, no drifting at all with presets, is accurate and always go back to set monitor point. I've had one for over a year. It tracks great with people walking, people on bikes. It tracks cars okay up to about 15mph on the street by my house. The Reolink Trackmix also has good gears according to reviews but I don't have one.
The struggle is real.✊🏻 I've experienced the same issues. Hopefully a firmware update is coming soon. I enjoy your channel. 👍🏻 And I would be interested in your opinion/review on the CX410. You Are Appreciated... ✌🏻
I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask my questions. Currently I'm using Arlo subscription looking to switch to a NVR system my question is. About how long a 2TB NVR with three cameras record at 4k 24/7 before it started to rewrite over the older files? Thanks
I love my Reolink 4k with NVR but they need to improve on the field of view , that 89 degree is terrible,it’s way too narrow. My logi-2 web cameras that I swapped out had 180 degrees. Reolink we need at least 120.
I don't understand why Reolink tried to add features to tbe E1, when they have the TrackMix, RLC-830A and RLC-823A. The 81PA also seems like a bad idea with the exposed cable.
@@LifeHackster definitely too many new model announcements when they can't get year old models manufactured enough stock for waiting customers (Doorbell, TrackMix, 823A, 12MP, etc) I'm using the CX410 (their most important future model), and I'm afraid how long will it take to get to customers. Or will they use this better image sensor on more than one model? Reolink's biggest negative is their night vision, they need this win! But I'm afraid they won't stick the landing. 🫤
@@LifeHackster How many of our reviews are a year before the Reolink product is actually available? I still haven't finished my 12MP camera review because it's now their 5th sensor/lens change. 🫤
Just installed two of these and we got them for their smaller form factor and look. I did notice the issue with the monitor point and will turn off tracking for now.
I had the same issue with the same camea (wifi version) the IPC_523SD8.804_22011506 firmware had the best staying on target for monitor point.. but still deviates by 10%.. the latest IPC_523SD8.1584 firmware version gets as bad as 50% off or more.. Also the cold seems to limit its range or motion. Noticed during the winter months.
You can connect the wifi repeater to a PoE switch or injector then to the camera or camera directly to the repeater as long as you power the camera separately 12 volts. 1 thing to note about repeaters is that depending on the wireless signal it is receiving, the connection is not as stable as a true wired connection.
This is an issue I have had on my 2 E1 outdoor (non POE) for months even after firmware updates. It appears to be hardware based. I wish it could be fixed as it’s not working as advertised
Please review E1 Outdoor PRO with WiFi. btw, why they make same model PoE and Pro, one have PoE no WiFi, second WiFi no PoE - WHY ? Should be one model which have PoE and WiFi.
I have a question please, I have set the video camera with spotlight mode nicht Smart mode but when I approach the camera the spotlight does not turn on. Why, please answer, thank you
The spltlight was on, you could see the faint 'white bluish' tint arround the area closest to the camera. The sensitivity is not the best, though and as he backs he gets totally invisible. Probably the fact there are bright lights on the back wasn't helping either, as the camera tries to compensate both extremes. I wonder if HDR was on as well? HDR will kill night vision.
I got one of these a week ago and its a complete pile of rubbish, its constantly losing image and half the features don't even exist on it, no way points no patrol no alarm and no two way voice ? it even crashed my complete NVR the first time I plugged the E1 into it and so far reolink have not got a solution other than to offer an 8% discount?
Hey, since upgrading the Reolink desk up. I can't access Duo2 + Solar Panel. Both on Phone App and Reolink Desk App. I'm thinking it's a issue. It's echoing and i changed nothing.
I did a long report to Reolink about this issue back when I got the first batch of E1s. They even replaced one due to this issue and the replaced model had the exact same issue. The use cheap plastic gears for this model and it just ruins one of the most important features of the camera. The nerve Reolink has to send another "updated" model on the streets with the same exact issue is just arrogance and complete lack of any customer satisfaction focus. Which I have not purchased a single new Reolink camera since early last year. Their QA/QC is horrible and their support is playing catchup all the time from the companys choices on cutting corners. Also if you look at the tracking of all their PTZ models, it's so choppy. There are cheap models out there that does smooth tracking, so why can't Reolink figure this out in 2023? They are seriously falling behind.
I have Eufy WiFi cameras and they constantly have connectivity problems-DAILY. I’m convinced that ALL these camera companies are selling overpriced junk. My Eufy cameras might record and tell who stole my Amazon package-3 hours later, but they NEVER connect and work well enough to tell me who is at the door RIGHT NOW. I could blame Comcast, but the other WiFi things I have at home work fine. PoE, Ring, Eufy, etc. it’s all junk.
Never had luck with Reolink. It always takes forever to show the live stream, playback cuts off 2-3 seconds of video every now and then…. And worse if all, I need to scrub through 5 minutes of video every time I want to see a motion event. It’s worse than Ring.
The Argus 2 Pro is complete garbage. Most times it does not record when there is motion. Battery is fully charged.. It seems like when it is powered by battery it is not reliable.
if your in UK DO NOT BUY THIS, Product REOLINK if you have an issue they expect you to pay to return. Customer service is 1 email answered 1 question if you have 2 questions that is ignored, are you getting the picture,, yes it is a nightmare to get any real help,
The 5 follow-up emails I’ve send in English a few months ago where technical due to an issue and all were nicely answered, they even send afterwards an email if it still worked. And the pay to return is I think a Brexit thing. Since you left the EU I have to pay if I want to return something back to the UK.
I've never got ignored and I've pestered them tons before. You may not of gotten the help you wanted but they've always responded swiftly and shown a willingness to help

I just bought 2 weeks ago and planned to deploy, probably I should return it for a fix one
Is the problems fixed? It’s - on paper. A good camera and cost effective PTZ
Are you going to review E1 outdoor pro? I wonder what Reolink improved on pro version other than wifi6..
I see an E1 Outdoor CX was just launched. Interesting to see if they improved it and how good the CX is vs the CX410.
When will you test the Reolink E1 Outdoor SE PoE camera?
I am looking for something similar to the eufy S350 since that one is only for indoor use. I have no idea what the term POE is suppose to mean being new to this type of camera connectivity terminology. I am wanting to know if I am able to connect this camera only through the plug in power cord and have it operate through the wifi as the S350 can. Thanks.
POE is power over ethernet. Uses an ethernet cable for both power and date. This is wired, not a wifi camera.
One common standout - Reolink’s audio quality is the worst. And this is yet another underperforming camera of theirs at nighttime it seems.
Please do a Reolink 1224a & their new CX410 review(s) soon!
Thanks for watching! I’ll check that model out..it also seems like Reolink has been releasing to many models of their cameras.
@@LifeHackster Reolink has new camera every month hahaha
Why they do not make them also in Black color ?
Can this be mounted internally on the ceiling of a hallway? Looking for a indoor PTZ which runs on POE.
Great sharing as usual. 🎉
Thanks

Hi How would u recomend this after all this issues ?
I have two Reolink indoor E1 WiFi cameras and they both occasionally lose the parked preset and stored presets. It's no big deal but it is a bit frustrating.
Hoping they can fix these issues.
Thanks LH. Looks like way too many issues for me. Why in the world did they only put panning for auto track and no tilt??? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That’s the first thing I noticed too..and I think because the design itself of the dome is limited in tilting when the camera is upside down.
All Reolink security cameras have auto-tracking issues, they lose their preset positions. They will work for a day then it does its own thing.
Think its a big problem Eufy also. So grunty and noisey on floodlight big one.
The struggle is real.✊🏻
I've experienced the same issues. Hopefully a firmware update is coming soon.
I enjoy your channel. 👍🏻
And I would be interested in your opinion/review on the CX410.
You Are Appreciated... ✌🏻
Is the problems fixed. It’s - on paper. A good camera and cost effective PTZ
Can you please give me advice on best security camera outdoor(my budget is 100$)
thanks for the video, MAN... I luv tech😎
I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask my questions. Currently I'm using Arlo subscription looking to switch to a NVR system my question is. About how long a 2TB NVR with three cameras record at 4k 24/7 before it started to rewrite over the older files? Thanks
NVR brands and HDD manufactures usually have charts you can look at for time ratings. Reolink has one on their support site. I assume about 12 days.
@@markd.songsandstuff7728 thank you
@2:51 he was holding something and said mount strap, but sounded like mouse trap.
Hey what would you recommend this camera or the RLC- 830A
I still have to test the 830 but I think it is better than this one.
Please check it out I am looking to purchase and I can’t find a review anywhere
Thank you 🙏🏾
Thanks L.H.

I love my Reolink 4k with NVR but they need to improve on the field of view , that 89 degree is terrible,it’s way too narrow. My logi-2 web cameras that I swapped out had 180 degrees. Reolink we need at least 120.
You know what sucks with the 2 lens camera? I really wish the time lapse would do both of the camerespecially the two did one
Is the camera wifi on this version also active if the ethernet cable is plugged in?
I don't understand why Reolink tried to add features to tbe E1, when they have the TrackMix, RLC-830A and RLC-823A. The 81PA also seems like a bad idea with the exposed cable.
They have been releasing I think too many models..they need to slow down and improve their current ones.
@@LifeHackster definitely too many new model announcements when they can't get year old models manufactured enough stock for waiting customers (Doorbell, TrackMix, 823A, 12MP, etc)
I'm using the CX410 (their most important future model), and I'm afraid how long will it take to get to customers.
Can you review some security IP camera from Hikvision?
Just installed two of these and we got them for their smaller form factor and look. I did notice the issue with the monitor point and will turn off tracking for now.
I got it few days ago. Wish I hadn’t.
Just rewatched your video on this particular model. It seems that the mic that picks up the the voice is muffed like the 4K WIFI 6 version as well.
Another issue I guess that they need to fix.
@@LifeHackster yea. It’s shame that the mic in 5MP E1 works well but not this new camera
Does the WIFI model support POE?
it is possible to connect the POE cable to a wifi repeater the camera could work
You can connect the wifi repeater to a PoE switch or injector then to the camera or camera directly to the repeater as long as you power the camera separately 12 volts. 1 thing to note about repeaters is that depending on the wireless signal it is receiving, the connection is not as stable as a true wired connection.
?
There is new Imou cruiser 2, can you do the review?
I’ll check it out. Thanks.
Is the E1 zoom indoor has the same issue?
No
This is an issue I have had on my 2 E1 outdoor (non POE) for months even after firmware updates. It appears to be hardware based. I wish it could be fixed as it’s not working as advertised
Yes, a lot have been complaining about these issues even on their older models.
@@LifeHackster hopefully you adding some extra profile to the issue will help. Love the content, greetings from your Aussie fanbase
@@angeloxlr8 thanks for watching!
I’m having the home point issue on the non outdoor version of the E1
I think this is an overall design issue on this type of camera.
Is this fixed?
Can Reolink new cameras detect faces and places with AÍ and only notify me when unknown people and cars are detected?
I had this same issue, i tried to get support with reolink but the only thing i got was a discount coupon =( i disabled this autotrack function
They have done a recent uodate with desktop app?
I haven’t checked..
Yes. Just this week dektop app. I got POE it screwed it all up. I got to redo it on Windows 11.
Do you have the eufy dual doorbell
Just get the Reolink Trackmix Poe .. its way better, better built and tracking is good.
I agree. Thanks for watching!
id love to see something this size in poe from reolink but in static, there dual lense good ones look like police radar guns they are huge
They have a lot of dome or bullet type PoE ones that have smaller footprint.
@@LifeHackster of those wich do you like the best?
the issues are still not solved. hate reolink
Never had luck with Reolink. It always takes forever to show the live stream, playback cuts off 2-3 seconds of video every now and then…. And worse if all, I need to scrub through 5 minutes of video every time I want to see a motion event. It’s worse than Ring.
Pretty much the same issues as the old wifi version that never got fixed.
Yes.
The tracking noise reminds me of the 823a. Hard pass on both. Reolink needs to discontinue the E1. The E stands for economy crap.
Reolink is basically Swann at this point
The Argus 2 Pro is complete garbage. Most times it does not record when there is motion. Battery is fully charged.. It seems like when it is powered by battery it is not reliable.

55 60 feet wouldn’t be noticeable… at night wth
if your in UK DO NOT BUY THIS, Product REOLINK if you have an issue they expect you to pay to return.
You may not of gotten the help you wanted but they've always responded swiftly and shown a willingness to help
looks like a baby monitor and cheap quality
The wifi worthless
Lifehackster
Why is my comment repeatedly getting deleted about at the lack of help from Reolink support and all the bad recent reviews of the latest app update in the Apple store?
The new app update has caused a lot of issues for customers.
As for Reolink themselves, they are painfully frustrating to deal with and can only offer firmware updates as a solution if you have problems with their products, if the problem cannot be solved with this update, then it can't be solved.
