Interested in this camera for the zoom but I wish the actual lens mechanisam was hidden behind a dark dome like some pro units are so that nobody can see the camera moving & pointing towards them... with it out in the open like this I think its a bit too "big brother" eye-of-Sauron tracking looking. p.s. just noticed specs on their website says it's waterproof to IP66 rating.
Nice review. My Foscam SD2X (18x optical) definitely has better autofocusing at night than this Reolink, though it’s only 1080p. Its sensor is also very sensitive to the point that I don’t even have the IR enabled unless I need to zoom. The street light alone lights up the whole neighborhood like almost daylight. Give the Foscam a look if considering this Reolink.
Based on your review, I was actually going to purchase this camera. Having a question about this camera, I telephoned Riolink. I received a recording to go to their FAQs. Too bad, looks like I'll be purchasing Ring Floodlights. They always answer. For the record, the time now is 1:00pm (PST) on Thursday.
Reolink is China based even their customer service and they usually use email only. Their website has a lot of help articles that you will find almost all information that you are looking for... Ring has pretty good customer service and you can call them pretty quick.
Reolink will answer emails but yes there is a delay due to their location. Personally I've never had an issue with them responding, and helping me. Just might take a day. As far as REOLINK, I have had many cameras due to moves and so far cannot beat the resolution and clarity Reolink cameras provide. When you want to share a view with the police, clarity is everything and has definitely worked in my favor in the past. Cons: Firmware updates that eventually make your cameras almost obsolete, and early NVR application awkward and not so friendly.
I purchased one of these. Seems to work fine though I can't zoom in on a specific item like a face or license plate once I have recorded footage from an event. Maybe you can post an instruction video. The zooms seems kind of useless you self monitoring and can physically control the camera since currently it does not support AI tracking.
Just wanted to confirm i was reading reviews on Amazon someone stated in their review that that he cannot use the PTZ opinion on the phone app. Is that true?
FYI - The optional vertical mounting bracket for RLC-423/RLC-823a DOES NOT FIT this camera! The diameter of the metal cap with the three screws on the top of the camera is larger in diameter on the RLC-823 16x than the ones supplied in the kit.

Have you done a review of the best quality PoE Outdoor 4K PTZ cameras with 10x (or greater) optical motorized varifocal zoom and subject tracking? Optional nice to have features night vision starlight processing and good android capable app.
My camera was doing okay but at some point after a firmware updated it now constantly goes out of focus when switching from daylight to night mode. Unless I manually refocus it the video is completely useless. Once refocused it stays in focus all night long and also stays in focus when transitioning to daylight mode. It seems it is only the transition from daylight to night mode that messes up the focus and it will never recover on its own without manual intervention.

So while the camera is doing it’s patrol mode/ monitoring around point to point if someone comes in view of it will it start to follow them or just move on to the next monitor point/patrol point?
It will track the object until it goes out of view and then it will resume the Patrol mode but only whilst you are logged into the camera. Think about what you are asking... camera records on to hard drive. This means any light flowing through the lens is written down on HDD. What ever zoom setting at present of recording camera has will record on HDD. So the answer is no. You cannot magically move the lense once the video is recoded on HDD.
G'day, I have the RLC-823A that works verry well. I am on a corner block and have too much passing activity on footpath and road so the auto track gets to muchof a work out. The 16x would be usefull when the natives get restless. The local police think my footage is amongst the best that they get.I can only imagine what more the 16x has. Could you do a compraison between 823-A 5x at full optical zoom with full digital zoom using the NVR, then use the 16x and show at what point it starts giving a closer image? I would like to be able to get fair images at about 200m.

Yes, there are 2 versions..the RLC-823A is the regular 5x version that has spotlights and the RLC-823A-16X is the one with the 16x zoom. I did an update video on this because this one now has motion tracking.
@@LifeHackster I'm curious to know which lens are you using with your A6100, how are you getting the signal to the computer, and which program do you use to edit and render? My mind is blowing because this video looks better than my $10K DSLR through Elgato. Granted I've only been recording 1080P so far.
biggest problem for me is the FOV (FEILD OF VIEW)..............when we compare it (fully zoomed out) to the to standard 823A (WITH 5X OPTICAL ZOOM) the difference is stark ....i would liken it to seeing through eyes with no peripheral vison...that's something people need to keep in mind imo
Zoom in on the bandit. Bummer it has no tracking and led. Only if Eufy flood has this in it haha. Can you test if this camera can hook up to other nvr and pc?
I'm learning that it has a firmware update that it now has auto tracking... I still have to test it. I haven't tested with other NVRs but you can view the camera in your PC using the Reolink client software or app for the PC.
We have 5 Reolink cameras on our property and this camera was the most disappointing. The pov is too narrow. The focus on was not that good up close and the auto tracking was hit and miss. WE were disappointed they removed the spotlight as well. Very poor design in IMHO. We sent it back. It was a step back from the other old ones we have.
In my use case, it does not see too much. I have had some repetitive issues with teen vandalism. That camera is very good compared to most of my cams. I have been looking at the EmpireTech Starlight 4MP 25x as a serious contender to resolve my local problem. The police can't do anything with the crap night videos from my Eufy cams
@@D0TELL Eufy's main issue is the PIR motion detection, too slow and can't detect targets coming directly at the cam well. I have 8 Eufy cams of different types.
The new tracking does work, and it is sensitive to detect people and vehicles at a distance, but does not zoom in on these detections so having the 16X optical capability is nearly useless. So you can detect a car a block away, but then does not zoom to that object. Pointless.
Yes I completely agree with you, I have noticed the same thing. The only time the zoom function happens automatically is in Patrol mode where you can set the zoom level to the point you want to check but it is a static zoom whilst at that point then backs off to the zoom level set for the next point. What is really annoying is the Patrol mode does not continue once you set it and log out of the camera. Once you log out the Patrol mode stops and the camera reverts to the monitor point only and then tracks from there.

@@LifeHackster This is very good to know. Unfortunately, Reolink will no longer be an option for me. Thank you for the info. I just can't get away from Wyze products. I LOVE them. Mainly the products. I've seen ring doorbell cams for $250!!!! Wyze pro is $100. Enough said
Yea but no 16X which is what I love about it, I would love one with zoom like that (doesn't hv to be 16X) with spotlight. I'd like to cover a large portion of my LARGE/LONG yard at night. What reolink would you recommend? @@LifeHackster
With you your yard is very small I have 30 acres of land when I want to see my sandhill crans I can now or my deer what an awesome camera stop buying all the other cameras they are junk put a reolink floodlight with it and it's the very best camera made today on a budget I have been installing cameras for 40 years now
Bit disappointed in this camera, I purchased it thinking that I could set it on Patrol mode and it would continue in that mode until it was triggered by an event being either a person or car or pet and it would switch to tracking that object then when finished it would go back to Patrol mode but that doesn't happen. When the tracking finishes it then forgets it was in Patrol mode and simply goes back to its monitor point. Also regardless of an event or not the moment you set it on Patrol mode it will only stay on that mode so long as you are on the camera, the minute that you switch off of the App or the PC Client then Patrol mode stops and the camera goes back to the set monitor point.
Although I see great value in your pointing out this I feel that patrol mode is a big mistake. The camera motors will be over worked if you had it on patrol mode 24/7. The camera would probably last one year (understandably I might add)... Maybe that is why it is the way it is.

Yes, there are 2 versions..the RLC-823A is the regular 5x version that has spotlights and the RLC-823A-16X is the one with the 16x zoom. I did an update video on this because this one now has motion tracking.
Is there a 4G/5G solar version of this camera? So it can be installed in more remote areas. I love your channel
believe there is
What's the status on the POE -E1 outdoor review?🎉🎉
Sometime mid-May...
Your main web cam quality is utterly sublime. Would you mind sharing any info and/or a BTS video link to your video/mic setup?
My main talking head camera is the Sony A6100 and mic boomed on top is the Movo VXR10 PRO.

@@LifeHackster thanks! How do you get the signal into the computer? Elgato? Or do you record direct to card and transfer the files?
@@LifeHackster I'm curious to know which lens are you using with your A6100, how are you getting the signal to the computer, and which program do you use to edit and render? My mind is blowing because this video looks better than my $10K DSLR through Elgato. Granted I've only been recording 1080P so far.
@@allthecommonsense I use Sigma 16mm 1.4 recording on the A6100 to an SD card and I edit with Filmora..Sony's have pretty good video quality...
@@LifeHackster really appreciate it. Keep it up!
biggest problem for me is the FOV (FEILD OF VIEW)..............when we compare it (fully zoomed out) to the to standard 823A (WITH 5X OPTICAL ZOOM) the difference is stark ....i would liken it to seeing through eyes with no peripheral vison...that's something people need to keep in mind imo
Can you have it focusing one area all the time? The 16X zoom is mostly important to me.
Yes, you can.
@@LifeHackster thanks
Wow
I’m not very handy, and not gonna be able to install wired or Poe cameras myself. Where do you all find people to install them for you ?
Network companies or alarm companies in your area should be able to help you.
Thumbtack is a great resource if you are within the US.
@@LifeHackster thank you ser
In my use case, it does not see too much. I have had some repetitive issues with teen vandalism. That camera is very good compared to most of my cams. I have been looking at the EmpireTech Starlight 4MP 25x as a serious contender to resolve my local problem. The police can't do anything with the crap night videos from my Eufy cams
My Eufy are great. 2c pro
@@D0TELL Eufy's main issue is the PIR motion detection, too slow and can't detect targets coming directly at the cam well. I have 8 Eufy cams of different types.

What is the measurement of the mount template?
in between screws - width - 40mm; length - 112mm
@@LifeHackster awesome sir, thank you.
Nice , But I need one with Great night vision at least for 50 feet or farther!! Any idea's ??
This one will work…
@@LifeHackster do I need a PVR ??
@@kdscrapping4452 NVR is not needed. You can just put in a micro SD card and use a Poe injector or switch and the app.
@@LifeHackster can I just use my internet modem??
@@kdscrapping4452 You can connect directly to your router but you also need to power up the camera with the 12 volt adapter.
Can you view it on a PC?
Yes..Reolink client or app on PC.
This would be good for rocket launching from cape Canaveral if it could track it.
Ive got a hikvision 32×zoom ptz it is a giant its called a tandemvu with one solid picture and and 1 ptz picture trust me when I say this it beats and reolink camra .whith my ptz u can the tuniest piece of gum fully don the street and my street is 300yd quite big❤❤
You said you have to create a password for the camera. Does that mean every reolink camera has a password instead of just 1 password for the app?
Yes..but this prompt will not come up if you plug it in on the back of the NVR…
@@LifeHackster This is very good to know. Unfortunately, Reolink will no longer be an option for me. Thank you for the info. I just can't get away from Wyze products. I LOVE them. I want to switch to ring, but I like Wyze way too much I can't bring myself to pay double to triple what I'm paying for wyze. The products, services, everything from ring is more expensive. Mainly the products. I've seen ring doorbell cams for $250!!!! Wyze pro is $100. Enough said
Ah Pare I see you’re still invested in Unifi. Please do more reviews on them!
I need to. Thanks for watching...
Car plate at night would have been helpful. Most cameras are good in the day.
❔ Do they make a ceiling mount? ❔I cannot mount this to my brick walls.
why no spotlight on this one?
They have the 823A for that.
Yea but no 16X which is what I love about it, I would love one with zoom like that (doesn't hv to be 16X) with spotlight. I'd like to cover a large portion of my LARGE/LONG yard at night. What reolink would you recommend? @@LifeHackster
This camera + Wi-Fi + Dual Lens + Night Vision == Perfect camera in 2023
No motion tracking, and audio quality is poor. Still waiting for another solution...
Mine gets out of focus by it self for no reason. Unless you check the footage everyday you’ll never know when it does it
I need to put that thing on my flag pole
RLC-823A 16X
reolink site states this ...Smart 4K UHD PoE IP Camera with PTZ and Auto Tracking
I bought 6 of them. And they are all focused on one spot. Muaaahahhhahhaaaaaa!!!!
Am I the first one watching this video?
