    You can see the camera here if you’re interested: amzn.to/3Ayz8Qp (affiliate link)
    Would you rather have an extremely wide field of view like this, or super detailed resolution for zooming in?

    • @Stealther
      @Stealther Год назад +3

      Personally I want resolution. I would prefer the ability to positively identify people or vehicles and to just add more cameras to get coverage. Otherwise you just end up with descriptions like "White Honda Accord" and you know how many of those there are. Does this support Apple Homekit?

    • @topperdude2007
      @topperdude2007 Год назад

      I think it depends on the situation. For the front of our house, I might prefer the resolution and ability to make out license plates from a distance / angle (similar to your Unifi camera in the video). But when monitoring the backyard, this would be neat (and another camera monitoring the lower level (aka basement) camera. Any idea if this is ONVIF compatible and usable with standalone software such as Blue Iris? I am guessing since most of their other cameras work with Blue Iris and you mentioned compatibility with Synology, this one should be compatible with Blue Iris as well but wanted to confirm. Thanks as always for a quick but useful mid-week video!

      Wouldn't it be cool if a camera could detect intrusion like I mentioned above, and unleash a drone to follow the perp from altitude? Call it the Jarvis Jr, Wondering Vision, Ultron attacks? Lol

    I'm going to preface this and say I'm a security officer in the UK and part of my job is watching CCTV systems. Businesses with 100+ cameras multiple NVRs etc etc. My regular site as of late has 4 NVRs in tandon and I have to say the software while seeming clunky on this reolink is actually fantastic! The hour time slot is genuinely genius and would come in so handy over other implementations I've seen. Perhaps they could offer the straight swipe for people that want it but the system they have once learned I feel is a better log... Perhaps especially if they added a number on each hour... The number relating to how many occurrences were in that hour with a handy jump to each occurrence.

    Thanks for the vid. I'm thinking about buying the PoE version of this camera to put above my garage. Last summer I wired in my existing Reolink PoE system and it was quite tedious, but totally worth it. It's a great system but I agree 100% about the clunky app. And adding one more camera to the mix won't be so bad now that the major work was already done a year ago. I like how they seamlessly blended the two cameras together to create the 180 fov. I think I'm sold!

    @matthewprovost9879 Год назад +1

    I recently purchaed the Reolink Duo 2 PoE after watching your review. Awesome camera with the spoghtlight function for the front of our house. It has saved on our electrical bill removing the standard 110v spotlight we used to have. I run this with (6) D400 cameras 2 outdoors/back of house and 4 inside. Going to upgrade the rear of my house/outdoor (2) D400 cameras with another Duo 2 PoE to cover 180 of my back yard. I also picked up the IoT spotlight for when my dogs go outside. Love it as well. Now i have a full 8 camera setup RLN8-410. Reolink has come a long way since inception of their product sand firmware.
    Also if people dont know you can run more than 8 cameras on the RlN8-410 through the windows client Reolink provides. The NVR's lan port must be connected to a PoE switch , and all extra cameras connected to the same PoE switch. Though only the 8 cameras are the ones that record to the NVR directly to it. Reolinks windows client allows you to store the extra cameras footage, connected to the switch, on your PC locally for more storage. Make sure you change the default storage location from C:/ and have a huge HDD for the extra cameras.

    Have one of these cameras [edit: the earlier one], a little underpowered processor wise when watching live or detecting humans. Also plastic shell which could be an issue - so far it's been fine. Also when tripped the camera records both channels rather than just the one that caused the event. Also I can't find newer firmware or any option to pull it (last checked a month ago, to be fair). But it's field of view is excellent - I do recommend it.

    We recently had 2 scary things happen in our back yard. Corner house, with a back wrap around driveway and a shop in the very back of our 1/2 acre lot. So I am watching your videos to learn about the systems and I have a few questions. 1) If I set up several cameras wired to an NVR around my shop, can I use the NVR to send the signals to another device inside my home? We presently use a Linksys net in 3 positions inside our home, but I think I can buy another and place it inside my shop. Would this be the best way to link to an inside the home system? 2) The cameras I have seen so far, like the one in this video, show it's own floodlights. What happens when another flood light goes bright? Do you lose picture? Does it make the cameras picture better?? 3) Now having an idea what I have to deal with, what would you do for security on both the house and shop, plus as much yard as possible, without paying additional cloud fees??? I think answering these questions would make for a great video.... Thanks and yes, I am now a subscriber..

    Have the fixed some of the frame rate issues as well this time? Do they sync properly between the cameras now long term with no drift?
    If they are 2 cameras, I guess it is 2 90 degree FoV camera's. The quality is a bit disappointing for 2 4K Camera's with 90degree FOV. Also can see the Reolink IR Night View is still pretty bad. Luckily they are good with good lighting so the LED's make quite a difference
    I guess this would make a good general overview camera, but the lack of detail at distance means it would be a lot harder to use the footage to identify a criminal in the event of an incident. This seems to be an issue with a lot of cheaper camera's though. It depends if you want the system to identify people or just as a general overview.

      It doesn't have an alarm function. Two way talk is average, but usable. As for the other settings, they do not improve the quality of the image on any Reolink cameras. It is the sensor quality that lets it down. You get what you pay for. Cheap camera sensor = cheap image,
      They are good as a general overview camera, and that is usually what you want a really high FoV for. For identifiying or focusing on particular areas, you still need another camera with a narrower FoV to get the extra details

    Super random question, how do you mount cameras on your exterior? Do you use some sort of light switch plate or something? What about rain leaking through the center or sides? Thanks for your help!!

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  Год назад

      Yes I had the same question a while ago and I ended up using a wall plate. I showed the process in a video from last year but that's how I did it again ruclips.net/video/LD3dEYTDuB8/видео.html and I didn't mention in the video but there are some waterproof covers for the PoE connection and the camera is IP66 so it shouldn't be a problem. All my other cameras have been up for well over a year through some crazy monsoons and haven't had any issues.

    I really haven't found the Reolink app to be so bad. I don't record continuously, I have no need for footage with no events so I only have the events stored, this means I have no 1 hour blocks like described.
    The grey button in the corner is no issue if you know it's there and you can easily sort events by type.
    The clip thumbnails are animated to show what's in the clip but they could be smoother and it would be good if they loaded faster but they're not too bad.
    I also wish there was a preview with the push notification but that might slow down the notification as well.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  Год назад

      Yeah for just even recordings it's not bad. I guess I should clarify that my main issues is with the 24/7 playback.

    • @beepboopbeepboop190
      @beepboopbeepboop190 Год назад

      @@SmartHomeSolver Agree with both of you. The app could/should be better but I don't hate it. The 24/7 playback is a weird default for a security camera -- might be wrong but I'm assuming almost all of their users are looking to see some movement or detection when they go to playback. Detection should be the default requiring you to toggle on 24/7. Side question - if you run pihole or similar, have you noticed an insane amount of reolink traffic? Pihole default limitations cause my android to be throttled because it's hitting 5k dns requests per minute. I don't think it's nefarious or anything, just either a bug or poorly written app. Only on android, windows app has a fraction of a percent of that and I know I could stop it if I disabled some of the features.
