Finally - a straightforward review and not an ad. I had to click through quite a few vids to get the info I was looking for. Thanks!
I love that you started with a disclosure that this wasn't sponsored by the subject of the video. Top few channels do it, leaving me to wonder continuously if I'm watching an ad
I'm loving and appreciate the disclosure messages on your product reviews!
Resetting the camera by holding down a button is a dealbreaker. There should be security questions & a code to your phone, like 2-factor authentication.
But you can also just take the camera. Didn't look like it's was that secure.
@@Robert-cu9bm No camera is secure for the bad guys, they just rip the wires out if it is wired, or shoot it out if it is higher....
If you have your camera low enough for someone to get to it then you don't deserve it
@@Whitepinoy
You need cameras low otherwise they're pointless.
Lots of bank robbers got away because the cameras were hideous so the banks put them up high so they weren't in eyesight. The crims just donned a cap and then they couldn't be identified.
You need the cameras low enough to see faces, if they're not they're not doing their job.
@@Robert-cu9bm Put the camera behind a window and fit a Eufy remote PIR sensor outside linked to trigger the camera via homebase 'security'. No PIR sensor on any camera will work through glass, it is not just a Eufy problem, it is inherent in the way PIR sensors work that glass blocks infraRed.
Great review Reed. Nice to see the home base improvements, and nice to see Eufy move away from the cloud. Until they embrace Home Assistant, I will have to look elsewhere, which is a pity. They seem to have done a great job on the solar support.
I agree and way overpriced. Can't view multiple cameras at the same time either 😕
I appreciate your detailed reviews. Eufy is improving it's lineup which should cause other brands like Reolink to expand and improve their cameras. Competition is good for consumers. You did a review of Reolink's Duo 2. I bought one, I like it.
and good for the CCP and their criminal activities to have international customers buying their surveillance products
What I like about the EufyCam 3 and HomeBase3 is both the improved resolution of the camera and the ability to store significant amounts of video on your own home-based system without going to the cloud, or incurring a subscription. Keep up the good work!
came for the camera, left impressed by the home base. we can FINALLY connect all different devices to a single homebase
Just found your channel. Great video. I am slowly switching all my Arlo cameras to Eufy. You can't beat the quality for the price point. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the review, I have the prior system and just ordered this because of your review 😊
I have a few Eufy cameras for an apartment I have in another state. I just ordered some additional ones but was notified 3 days ago that the order was being returned by the carrier - assumed because of damage during shipment to the box/container. Good for me because now I'm going to be ordering these updated ones instead. Thanks for the review.
I've been waiting for a long time for a 4K from Eufi. Definitely getting some to add to my current eufi network.
Thank you for the review. I will probably buy this system in the future. Your insights helped in this decision.🙂
Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even ruclips.net/user/postUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.
Great new features! Really like the new resolution, no hard drive capability and upgrades for future software capabilities.
I truly enjoyed your review, this will probably push me to add this system to my home. You mentioned the pole mounts however I could not find your link.
I think it would awesome for you to check out and review Blue Iris. For the technically inclined, it has some pretty decent features for smart home integration. There's also a lot of compatible cameras.
honestly with this review really wants me to get some of these cameras now, almost exactly what i was looking for.
Good to hear about the non subscription model, my Garmin dashcam works well but Garmin discontinued their PC management program in preference to a sucky phone app which relies on a subscription and realize that Garmin’s business model is relying on subscription services and the PC management program is out of date.
Great camera, love the expanded storage feature and the solar panels but that push-button erase feature needs to be addressed
I'm impressed that the North cam was able to get a satisfactory/significant amount solar power!
Very nice.
But $470 to $550 for 2 cams & a HomeBase3 seems high to me... I guess I don't really need it.
I'm definitely interested in the new home base features and plus I'm able to integrate my old system with the new is a plus
Im concerned about battery powered cameras simply because I live where we are below freezing for at least 1/3 of the year. I assume these are lithium batteries and that they'll be ruined half way through the first winter. However lead acid seems like it would do a horrible job in a small device like this. Any thoughts?
Poor Luna. Thank you for this video. I was not considering security cameras, but now I am. Really good deals on the 2 Euphy cams but I like the features of this camera. Of course since it is new NOT on sale. We don't have motion lights so thinking this should be added first. Going to look thru your website to see what you suggest. I love Euphy products. Thank you.
Amazing review👌💯
Many thanks for taking the time 👍
Superb video. Excellent mix of pros and cons with actual examples. I’ll consider swapping out my Wyze cameras if the quality is sufficient.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
I had the eufy 2k pro kit with homebase and the wifi range on the base was appalling the first camera connected and worked great but the second camera situated 30mtrs away across our garden wouldn’t get a signal , yet my home broadband router beams out there no probs at all, i ended up sending the system back , shame really cos i liked the cameras a lot, nice video by the way
Great writeup. Time to get rid of my useless camera I have had for several years now. Two of the 3 brands still work well but one is a regrettable decision moment one I will definitely check these out. Thank you.
Which one was regrettable
These look great and I was looking to get the V2 until I read they are not really willing to support matter when it was released.
Yeah matter doesn't have camera support yet but I would love to just have everything work perfectly in 1 place with 1 protocol instead of having different hubs and connection points that brands like to create to work just with their smart home bits and bobs.
I am wanting to start to go into home automation, as I finally am getting a house, and I feel overwhelmed that everything I want to buy requires their own base or I will need to learn how to setup a home assistant server, ensure everything I buy works there and be cautious of how to setup the network for privacy in case something wants to connect to the Internet and be exploited etc.
All this seems to be quite overwhelming for me and getting into the smart home stuff.
So Anything that can alleviate my pain is the +1.
I'm in a similar boat. We just bought a place and now I'm excited about making it smart. There are so many cameras to choose from.
Eufy is the most appealing to me. No subscription and the hardware is not expensive like Arlo.
Idc for homekit integration bc I'm an Android user.
I also don't want to keep kicking the can down the road until matter starts supporting cameras.
I'll likely just go with this eufy
I like being able to add existing cams to the new home base, but I’m assuming then the 2 and 2c would lose HomeKit ability as I believe HomeKit is based off of base and not camera. ☹️
I'm guessing the notification from face detection is because it's more for looking through things after. Doing it real time on 4k footage would take crazy processing power. It's probably about video processing time and a trade off between late notifications vs quick ones with less info.
Eufy cameras are getting more and more appealing. If only the doorbell would support an existing chime I'd get into their ecosystem.
Their battery operated doorbell can be wired into an existing chime. I bought one for my original 1950's door chime and it works great!
I’m definitely getting this security camera thanks for the video
I’m going back to wired for 24/7 monitoring. Eufy adds that feature I’ll buy it.
It looks like a nice camera but anything that I can't tie in with Home Assistant(rtsp would be great) at all is out for me. I recognize power is an issue but at least being able to make an api call when something's triggered would be an improvement.
I was really excited to see these new cameras, I already have eufy doorbells and 5 2k cameras. I was going to do some upgrading with the new base and replace at least 2 of the cameras but the lack of homekit is a deal breaker. I already had to do some home bridge patching to get the doorbells on homekit and they are a little glitchy .
bad news for you, i would check recent yt videos on what eufy is doing... scary
@@JL1 fearmongering lmap
Great review!! Very detailed!! But the starlight sensor makes the color at night so unreal😅
I got the first Eufy cams through their initial Kickstarter page. They promised to add Apple HomeKit support right up to when they released the 2nd version and dropped support for the original. The next lot of cameras had terrible battery life or didn't work with Homebase, preferring to use onboard storage (terrible idea). I was really hoping they would eventually get it right and then they remove HomeKit. Ffs. Knowing how they lie about adding features retroactively, I will definitely wait until HomeKit is added before replacing my four Eufy 1 cameras.
yeah no HSV support is a dealbreaker for me, but wow that's surprising to hear about their missed commitments on retroactive feature support
I bought two Eufy 2k wireless cameras, and one barely holds a charge for more than 3 days. I bought the eufy solar panel but that only gives the camera an extra day or two of life. Its great when it works but talk about a MUCH shorter than expected battery life.
To be honest I find the HomeKit horrendous for the eufy 2C I removed that and just depend on Eufys app, much faster and more responsive that HomeKit
Do they keep your data?
Great video as always. This may have been asked but do you know what the recording lag is like? My existing battery powered cams have a terrible lag before they record but I’d be keen to know if this is any better.
I had the same problem with eufy 2. i think eufy 3 will have this problem too.
This is the perfect camera I would want for my home up until the no HomeKit secure video…😤
Way overpriced and can't view multiple cameras at the same time and the ai doesn't work very well lots of false alerts too.
Thanks for the review Reed.
I have a question. If the camera dose not detect beyond 30' and can't do continuous recording. Why would it matter how good the camera resolves images 50 to 60' away? That would only matter if you were able to record live?
Hey Reed, I'm sure you're aware of the upcoming SmartThings platform change in October. Supposedly custom device handlers will no longer function, which would kill a lot of useful integrations (Aqara Door/Window Sensor, HomeSeer Mult-sensor, etc). Would love for you to cover how you plan to navigate this. Thanks for all your great insights!
An easy fix is, switch to Home Assistant :P
@@ZillionPrey HOME ASSISTANT! *Hibbert-esque humping motion*
@@ZillionPrey There is nothing easy about HA unless you are a programmer and want to redo everything every time there is an update.
@@stevelaminack1516 I've been using it for years. No Update has yet killed something important. You have to live with compromises if you want flexibility and a lot of things supported.
It has also gotten a lot better in terms of UI and setting up things without programming knowledge.
@@ZillionPrey This is a great fix, but easy it is not.
Will linking the older indoor 2k cameras with the new homebase 3 allow them to be armed and disarmed as part of the security alarm system? If so this will be a great upgrade.
I just bought the Homebase 3 as i have a few indoor cameras and my outdoor cameras are already setup with solar panel and the old cams are getting the features from the base. I have multiple keypads, door locks and sensors, hope those work with it .
Great review. Definitely looking into this
Just what I have been looking for. It will work great with all the sunshine 🌞 here in arizona.
Great videos. Do you think they will be HomeKit compatible in the future?
Thanks - about to order. I have yet to see or read a bad review. Will get the 4 cam pack plus the Ring door cam
I found out not to use refrigerators and freezer type products for power testing over a time period unless it’s weeks/months and the temperature outside of that device is also a near constant.
3 hours of the fridge was never opened, it may only run a few times. If you leave the door open I’m sure the battery would’ve died
Thanks for the review. Hopefully you can cover the usage scenario -- most importantly how quick can I see the footage as soon as motion is detected.
Great content. Giving serious consideration to replacing my Ring cameras.
Pretty bummed about the lack of HSK support, but if HSK still only supports 1080p, that might be why eufy didn’t want to support it on a 4K camera. The cameras seem great, but doesn’t seem like enough better quality of the eufycam 2 Pro’s that I have to justify a pricey upgrade. And the spotlight seems rough! Why even include it if the quality is that bad?!
Hey Brett! Yeah the missing HSK is a bummer and Eufy has added HSK to their 2K cams so not really sure what's going on.
@@SmartHomeSolver Yeah I’ve been using HSK on the eufycam Pro 2’s that I have. I just wonder if they figured that anyone buying a 4K camera isn’t going to want to have the quality reduced to 1080p by HSK? Because HSK reduces the quality even within the eufy app
No Homekit support is a downer and the erasing of video on the Homebase when you reset a camera is a silly oversight (one that I hope they fix very soon). They are getting close but not quite there yet. I'd like to see 180degree FOV like the Arlo Ultra provides. What is the bitrate for the 4k files and are you able to access video files stored on the HomeBase3 via the Eufy web portal on a PC?
I would love to know how any Eufy solar-powered camera performs in the PNW---specifically, the western side of Washington (state) where we don't often have any clear sunlight in the Fall thru early Spring months. We do have bright skies but they are overcast. Has Eufy done any testing in those kind of conditions and if so, where can I find out how they performed?
Great review. Thanks! This is exactly what I'm looking for in a security cam system. 4k, no subscription, long/everlasting battery life. Now to shop for a deal... :)
Hey Reed, great vid. What kind of latency performance are you seeing?
Great and honest review as always, how does this compare to the Nest IQ Outdoor camera?
Update review: I have had the Wifi Eufy Cam 3 system for about 15 months. Overall camera's (4G),and control center work well. The only problem that I have experienced was with the front door camera (lots of use) that went bad. Eufy has 1yr guarantee and the camera died at 14 months. They do not fix these camera so you have to purchase another and discard the camera. I had to purchase a new camera with no special discount given their camera was faulty. I will continue to monitor the rear door and it's life expectancy. Depending on the camera life cycle these units could get expensive over time. Basically, it cost about $179. for replacement camera after purchasing the control center with 2 camera's for $446 last year.
Great review, Reed! I am interested in buying the Eufy homebase 3 if it solves the problem I’m having with homebase 2 which is that every night a deer goes by one of the cameras I am awakened by an alert. Can pet detection be set up for deer ranging from fawns to does and bucks?
Great review sir! Can you please test and see if the Home Base 3 works with Homebridge?
That’ll let us get around the lack of HomeKit compatibility (very odd as the v2 supports HomeKit).
For me one of the things that is a concern to me is whether the Wifi signal will reach the corner of the house where I would want to put these. I am not sure you covered the connectivity. Do the cameras need to connect to wifi or do they only need to connect to the base station through a separate connection?
Seems like an easy fix for security. Just add an algorithm in there when resetting it you have to be no more than a foot away from the home base or only allow a reset on your phone app or on the physical home base instead of the camera. Also send a two step verification code when attempting to reset.
I’ve been using nest for awhile but I’ve never really been satisfied tbh. I think this will be the replacement I’ve been looking for.
Can you check live footage from your house with the app or just recorded events? Does it pick up movement and immediately start recording without any delay?
Great review, thank you. Thee Eufy HomeBase 3 has just been released and I know you can use it with previous Gen cameras, but, will it still support HomeKit Secure video with those older Pro Cameras?
Thanks again, great stuff!
Thanks for the video.
I have a wired (battery) video doorbell and 2x Eufycam 2 pro. I'm thinking of adding an extra Eufycam 2 Pro, but maybe it's worth getting the Homebase 3 + 1x Eufycam 3 instead 😬.
What I was concerned about was what you said at 10:40. Is this also a problem on the Eufycam 2 Pro. Can an unwanted person delete their own video by pressing the button 😱?
Can I ask about the transparency of the review policy? You got the camera for free from Eufy. Was that in exchange for a video? I get that they had no say in the video, but did they have like talking points of stuff they wanted you to mention, or similar? I'm trying to understand how this would be done.
I’m kinda bummed that I recently purchased the Home Base 2 after seeing this. Oh well it’s still a great platform. The thing about being able to potentially record video for 60 years using the larger HD will only apply if your have just one camera. If you’re a business and have a dozen or so or even just a homeowner with multiples you won’t be getting this long of recording capabilities.
Did you ever try the RTSP? Do the new cameras have it, or is that what you mean that they don't work with HomeKit? It seems that the RTSP to NAS might be the only way to be sure the sync reset can't damage the footage if the camera is stolen.
I have nine Eufy cameras...We love them. The Alexa integration is rough though. And what is happening with the SmartThings Hub and supporting Eufy? Will that happen when Eufy is more Matter-friendly as well?
Nice! Been waiting for this
One thing I don’t like about my interior eufy cameras is that their alarm can’t be triggered in the eufy automations. Now that they can hopefully soon connect to the HomeBase, will they be able to be used as automation triggers?
Does the new Homebase 3 provide additional functionality, to allow you to turn off multiple/all cameras at once?
Thanks for the review and thanks for mentioning the terrible sync button vulnerability, hopefully they fix that soon.
After the Eufy privacy breach last year I tried to disconnect my Homebase 2 from the net, but found I could no longer use the app to view recordings or cameras as it relied on the Eufy cloud for authentication. Do you know if the Homebase 3 and cams can be disconnected from the internet, or do they still need the cloud for authentication?
Thanks for the review, seems like a good camera and base. What would you recommend for a camera that I could use to catch someone vandalizing a cemetery? There are trees and sun but no power and WiFi. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this great video, I'm considering this setup for my home , but i have some questions, does the camera use internet bandwidth when recording an event? , Or does it only communicate with the home base , also what would happen if the internet goes out? I know i won't get notified but will the event be recorded on the home base?
I don't have reliable internet but i want to make sure that the home base keeps recording
This sounded like the perfect camera until the no HomeKit integration. May be minor to most people but rather important to me. If they change this it will be an instant buy from me, if not I’ll just keep looking.
Same man what a bummer
What’s the range that the cameras can be from the Homebase?
What’s the total number of devices/ cameras you can add to one base?
Hi, Thanks for the video. I have a question: I currently have two Eufycam 2 pro cameras installed. Is the bracket installed on the wall compatible with the eufycam 3 ? I would just like to unscrew the eufyucam 2 to put the eufycam 3 (and not have to drill again in the wall). Thank you!
How many homebases can you install?
Do they connect to each other wirelessly, or should all of the be connected with ethernet?
I am wondering, if buying 4 cameras, placed on the edges of a big single layer house, would it be sufficient (signal) for all of the cameras? If not, how to manage the issue?
Thanks for your wonderful reviews.
Hello friend Inlove solar solutions. Living in a country where blackouts and power shortsges are a dayli basis reality I find this video and your solar sponsor a great Discovery. I send you blessings for this wonderful video made with such detail and professionalism wao awesome all together this video covers every aspect from security, the non-subscription solutions which are truly what msny of us look for...and solar goodness
I'm loving my Eufy dual doorbell camera, but I wish it could push a feed to an Echo Show when it detects motion at the front door. Waiting for the notification, finding the phone, calling up the video takes a lot longer than simply going to the door and looking.
Also wish they would fix the local feed in a browser. I'm looking at the base on my desk yet I can't access it directly or with speed. ...if it works at all.
Still better than Ring, tho.
Bad choice of Eufy, not to support HomeKit. Where other brands are supporting more and more platforms instead of centralizing on only there own, is Eufy now narrowing down. Definitely a dealbreaker for me. I would at least wanna be able to see the live footage of the cams in HomeKit, where I would also control my outside lighting and locking for security
Does the eufycam 3 require the home base? I have several of their previous models but do not have them set up with a home base. I’d like to keep it that way if possible.
Would you recommend continuous recording? If so, how long will be store last?
Do activity zones work properly on these cams as it didn’t on the 2?
Had bought the camera mount as you described but the screws don’t match. Did you buy different screws?
All reviews are on the solar cameras are the 3c cameras ok to use outside? Or is the now 65 water rating mean they can only be used inside?
I’m waiting for it to become HomeKit secure compatible. I also think in the event of a power cut it can’t record is another mayor drawback. As a result I’m thinking of Netatmo
as long as you can see the plates thats all tht matters thats some good quality. If i could trade my old ones in i would.
Do we get facial recognition on older models as a software upgrade feature ? Or is it just for the new 3 and 3C models?
How well does the cameras pick up your home wifi? Will it work 30 feet from homebase going through 2 walls?
Great video. I love the cameras and security stuff that don't have a monthly fee, so this was good information. Have you every tested a microseven camera? I got one of their POE PZT cameras but haven't got it installed yet and was wondering what your thoughts were on it.
Thanks for your content.
I want to know that Eufy Cam 3 comes with Homebase-2 or Homebase-3? Moreover I would like to know that how long this Eufy Cam 3 solar camera could run without sunlight? (As if I installed them inside my garage where there is no sunlight. Please guide me, Thanks.
Do these cameras function 100% offline?
Can they be deployed and configured at a site with NO internet access? (Obviously remotely viewing would not be possible, but local?)
Do the cameras connect via Wi-Fi or directly to the home base. I’d like to have the home base by my network rack in basement and take advantage of my access points throughout the property.
Does the Activity Zone actually work now? As in you doing fry alerts from outside the zone you select.
How well would a camera like this hold up in a colder climate? Can it withstand a canadian winter?
You are right solar is important. I ordered solar and have a couple that are not. I'm going to order a couple of solar panels and run wires to the ones that are not. Thank you for the videos they helped 😊
