@@ThunderYt28 According to the dialog of BALANCE OF TERROR (where we first meet Romulans) the Earth-Romulan war was 100 years BEFORE that TOS episode.

@@mister-v-3086 That explains a story I read with an Admiral Black using clever tactics during a battle in the Sol system. Since there was an Admiral Black in the Enterprise mirror universe I assumed that was his counterpart.
