  • Unique video of Beethoven's five piano concertos, played by a young Vladimir Ashkenazy at the height of his pianist career. few commercially available Ashkenazy videos are on the piano, making this set a must have for fans and the general public alike.
Accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the great conductor Bernard Haitink, this was the first time on television: all five concerts had never been broadcast live before.
Although we focus on piano concerts here, several overtures by Beethoven and the complete Symphony No. 8 were also included in the program. Filmed and broadcast live at London's iconic Royal Festival Hall in its former glory, before it was remodeled with a complete internal makeover.

As I was listening to this, it suddenly hit me that Ashkenazy never, _ever,_ played a wrong note, in any of the live performances I’ve listened to, and there are a _lot_ of live performances out there! How is that even possible??? His technique is so great that he appears to be able to focus all of his mental energy on what he wants to say in his music without ever having to think about the notes on the page! It’s absolutely incredible!!

They played almost 3 hours of intense music with very little rests between pieces. Incredible.

Ashkenazy and Haitink created an ideal artistic partnership. The diminutive Russian at his pianistic peak, creating performances of inexorable logic and imagination with superlative technical mastery.

Lots of pianists have the technique to guarantee accuracy. Lots have the musicality to want to do so. Only a few have the ability to maintain the intense concentration necessary to keep it at 100% throughout a performance.

The most amazing concert I have ever heard: all 5 of Beethoven piano concertos played my Vladimir Ashkenazy at the height of his career. I saw him play live recently at the Noorda Theater at UVU.

KDFC, the San Francisco Bay Area classical music station, plays relatively little Beethoven, considering he is by far the most popular composer in their listener surveys. (They seem to be playing to the masses for donations . . . not surprising.) I'm so glad I found this extraordinary set of masterworks performances. I listen several times a week.

This pianist's presence is not merely formidable; it is an embodiment of overwhelming authority that transcends the realms of artistic excellence, technical proficiency, and interpretative depth. This singular presence, in itself, suffices to warrant him an elevated appraisal, surpassing the conventional metrics of artistic and technical evaluation. It emanates from an intricate synthesis of profound understanding and fervent passion for the art form, thereby instilling in both the audience and performers an indelible impact. Through his performances, he not only demonstrates technical mastery and insightful interpretation but also infuses his renditions with a distinctive essence, thereby leaving an enduring impression upon the listeners. This presence, thus, forms the nucleus of his performances, adeptly conveying the quintessence of music and eliciting profound emotional responses from the audience. Consequently, his presence elevates beyond that of a conventional performer, assuming the role of a conjurer who forges an intangible rapport with the audience. Through the medium of music, he engages in a profound dialogue with the listeners’ souls, harnessing the sublime power to resonate with their innermost sentiments and catalyze a cascade of empathetic reverberations.

@@roberthill799 Contrary to individuals of your ilk, my selection of vocabulary is not a frivolous endeavor but a deliberate exercise in logical precision and aesthetic sensibility. Hence, the employment of a thesaurus becomes indispensable, leaving you to your own inventions with your carbonated beverage.

Very impressive word salad and you confuse the active voice which requires a direct object (his presence elevates...what?) for the passive voice the syntax requires here (his presence is elevated)...but on the whole I agree: f*cking spectacular performance ❣️🤣🤣
