  • Florida man faces trial for a catastrophic school shooting, but before he does, he must face jurors for a battery case. Prosecutors say that’s Parkland School Shooter, 23, on footage rushing a Broward County jail guard in November 2018. Jury selection is scheduled to start Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. ET. Opening statements are scheduled for Oct. 18.
The Shooter is the person facing 17 counts of first-degree murder, and 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder for opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County, Florida on Valentine’s Day 2018. Then 19, he was a former student there. While awaiting trial at the Broward County Jail, he attacked one of the guards, say, prosecutors. In the Nov. 13, 2018 incident, the guard told him not to drag his sandals on the floor, prosecutors said. The Shooter flipped him off, and, as clear from the video, rushed him and struck him. He initially had the upper hand, but the guard regained control, and The Shooter eventually gave up.
17 people died in the high school shooting: 14-year-old student Alyssa Alhadeff, 35-year-old teacher Scott Beigel, 14-year-old student Martin Duque Anguiano, 17-year-old student Nicholas Dworet, 37-year-old assistant football coach Aaron Feis, 14-year-old student Jaime Guttenberg, 49-year-old athletic director Christopher Hixon, 15-year-old student Luke Hoyer, 14-year-old student Cara Loughran, 14-year-old student Gina Montalto, 17-year-old student Joaquin Oliver, 14-year-old student Alaina Petty, 18-year-old student Meadow Pollack, 17-year-old student Helena Ramsay, 14-year-old student Alexander Schachter, 16-year-old student Carmen Schentrup, and 15-year-old student Peter Wang.
Officials arrested The Shooter shortly after. Interview footage showed him insisting a voice in his head told him to carry out the shooting. He called it the “Demon.”
“Personally, I think you’re using the demon as an excuse,” said Broward County Sheriff’s Detective John Curcio.
The Shooter’s defense has not disputed that he is responsible. They have been trying to save him from the death penalty.

When they played the audio of the young man screaming, it broke my heart. Anthony Borges was severely injured laying in the middle of the hallway by himself, screaming for help in an empty hallway along with the ones who passed. With all his might he was screaming" help! help! Help me please help me please please ". I saw his documentary in spanish and he explains how scary it was just laying there with all the doors in that hallway closed, he tried calling his parents but unfortunatly no one answered, he wanted to tell them goodbye because he was bleeding profoundly and he thought he was not going to make it. I've seen the videos of all the audio tapes they played and it's terrorfying.... and the one person who caused this nightmare to reality to those innocent kids can't even stand to hear his own work being played out loud. Shame on you.

Ive already posted this message in response to some comments but to anyone who is finding the teacher with a shaved head and glasses off-putting, I beg you to keep in mind that the process of testifying is intense and stressful, not to mention reliving those events. The tendency to make jokes is a defense mechanism, he is likely subconsciously or not distancing himself. It is important also to note that this man is a hero, he tried to check on a dying student to see if she was alive, while risking putting himself in line of sight of the shooter, and when the shooter paused because of an issue with his gun, he ordered all the students with him in the alcove in the hallway to run, giving many of them the opportunity to escape, he then held the door to the stairwell with his foot momentary while the shooter tried to follow them, allowing the students further distance from the shooter. He’s undeniably a hero. So before you comment on it with a lack of understanding and empathy, think of the reality of the situation and how you may respond. Maybe you find it in appropriate, and that’s okay, its out of place in such a meaningful and sad situation and that may feel uncomfortable, but I remind you to live with empathy, and an understanding that you can never know what you would do in someone else’s shoes because everyone lives their own personal experience and no one else’s.

People who say the death penalty for Nikolas is the easy way out and they want him to suffer with life in prison let me tell you something. Life in prison becomes a lifestyle, you make friends, you watch tv, you get commissary and you adjust. Being sentenced to death is a very painful sentence you sit for 15 to 20 years. Your brain literally turns to mush from living in fear. When they finally come to serve your warrant and strap you to the table that’s all you mentally know how to do is fear. So for those of you saying death is the easy way out you are in denial. It’s the ultimate sentence and it’s suited for someone like Nikolas. Just to let you know this guy is not going to sit and think about his victims with a life sentence. Infact it will probably become a new way of life for him, he has no family or anything. Now he’ll get Tv, munchies, recreational time, communication, friendships and so on. So I suggest start being real about what he did to these families. I would suggest turning his brain to complete mush. He will understand the fear that day of his acts when he himself has to serve his warrant for his body.

i can’t help but watch this and wonder “what if?” 🥺 what if luke and martin had walked back to class just a few minutes or even seconds earlier? what if gina hadn’t asked to sit outside her classroom to get her work done? what if everyone on the 3rd floor that got left behind in the hallway, had just ran straight to the west stairwell since the beginning? or what if they had known that the teacher lounge was open and gone in there and locked themselves? what if the police had gone in sooner and been able to save those like chris hixon and martin who were still barely alive? god this is still so heartbreaking even 4 years later 💔 rest easy angels 🕊🤍

my heart broke for mrs. schamis when they showed her the pictures of helena ramsey and nicholas dworet 🥺 she got so emotional 😢 also mrs. reoven did an amazing job of looking out for the injured as well as the student who was by her side guiding her. so brave of them 🥺🤍 i wish joaquin had followed kyle and tyler and ran like they did 🥺 i know he said he couldnt because of his knee, but if only his adrenaline had kicked in like kyle he could’ve sprinted down those stairs too and made it out alive. also heartbreaking to hear that both joaquin and meadow were in mrs. lippel’s class but somehow (im sure through the chaos) got stranded in the hallway far away from their class💔🥺

I assume the Russian young man who had only been in the USA for 2 weeks was a foreign exchange student. I wonder if he stayed his full term. I can't imagine not fully understanding English and so much devastation. Does anyone know more about him?

I guess you didn't pay closer attention to his testimony. He testified being ENROLLED at Stoneman Douglas for 2 weeks before the shooting. And nowadays he's at Broward College (in Florida as well). And since he went home to his parents after the shooting and came back to school to be taken to hospital, I doubt he was an exchange student. He's just a Russian living in US with his family

They aren't defending him in terms of saying he's innocent. They are there because by law, everyone is entitled to an attorney. They are there just to guide the defense in terms of where to sit, how to talk (probably they advised him to tell the families to decide his fate). He already pleaded guilty so there's no defence on that.

Question: the evidence they show (photo and video) will that ever be released to the public? Or does that depend on the case? This one is horrible with people getting injured/killed so I understand if it doesn't get public.
But in the depp vs heard case (bad example I know) we saw a lot of photo evidence, so I was wondering if it's common or not. Or if it depends on the severity of the footage

Talk about drag it out. That many killings should just incur the death penalty. Why should anyone be paying to keep this guy alive another day.
