Well, when you factor in the repair and maintenance costs of the Hyundai/Kia, with their 5/7 year warrant (And these cars are VERY reliable they hardly ever have any issues) ,and the fact that the CX-5 is only "marginally" better in aspects like functionality and interior quality, I'd get the Korean.

So yeah, I don't buy this Joy Juice often but when I do buy 1/2 a tank after using all of the 91 octane out of my tank I get more POWER. As in at least another 10 HP by my butt dyno. But I love this beautiful, luxurious compact SUV in its beautiful "Soul Crystal Red". Add an oil catch can to your GDI engined car and you're good for a few 100,000 miles.
In Australia the CX-5 is the no. 1 seller in it's segment(RAV4 may challenge it soon) but we still went with the Tuscon Elite. Whilst the CX has the better drive train and the interior is more lush the Tuscon is the best riding vehicle in it's segment. This is due to it being locally tuned to our conditions. Few other small advantages over the CX, boot space, comfort, spare, tech etc. Would be happy with either and even the Sportage I'm sure. Nice review.
I've owned VW group cars for years, but hired a Kia Sportage a few months back - the controls were so intuitive that I felt like I knew where everything was after less than an hour of driving. I had always cast them aside as a cheaper alternative but after a few days driving the Sportage, I'd definitely consider it against a Vw or Skoda.

Mazda has always been superior. To imagine this is the "previous generation of kodo Mazda's" and still is better than the newly refreshed contenders is really remarkable. The best premium non premium brand at the moment 😁. Can't wait for the new 6...
Both the Sportage and the Tucson are better looking than the Mazda in my opinion. The interior of the Mazda feels a bit better but also less roomy, and overall it’s a bit more expensive. I prefer the Sportage or the Tucson overall. It’s hard to choose between the 2.
OMG Matt, you made the same mistake with CX5's load cover again! You CAN store it underneath the boot floor, as I previously commented under your original CX5 review. You just need to remove the sideboards, that's it.
I agree, even though the petrol version of the cx-5 lacked power everywhere below 5000 rpm. The exterior and interior design are elegant and I agree the suspension needs quality damping its too springy soft expecially when encountering course roads. Still the one I'd choose out of the 3 easily. With a more capable engine it could be fun. Also needs 50mph 6gear auto shift like the cx7 has, but I suspect its too far down on power.
If you own a cx5, dont worry about the booth sunscreen, it will fit underneath the floor easily ;) have owned a tucson and a cx5, cx5 is way more classy inside and out and roomier as well
Hyundai tucson is the best purchase. I did alot of time before choosing. Tucson is the undoubted best value and performance. Style is way better than the other vehicles. Tucson is the best choice.
I am just curious about your opinion: Why would you personally prefer driving a manual, especially like these cars, which are big not really sporty handling cars? Just curious, because I am currently still driving a manual and it's not that I can't shift, I actually quite enjoy shifting too from time to time. In most day to day driving situations I am really annoyed since traffic jams and slow city driving really sucks.
@@philippsladek99 I'm talking about how manuals are almost completely disappearing from the US car market. Many sports cars/performance sedans are not offered in manual here anymore. CX-5 sells pretty good in Europe but overall Mazda is not doing so great. Even though they look good, drive good and have one of the best interiors. Odd..
Of course they won't sell well in most of Europe, since many people try to either drive german cars or alternatively another European manufactured car. If someone is looking for a cheaper car they aren't the first brand to look at either. So it makes sense that they don't sell that well. But I gotta say for such a small manufacturer they are doing alright anyway
@Dictator_Sheikh_Salman Nothing against Mazda, I actually love them. Also a lot of people seemed to like the current Mazda's but when it comes to the buyers they usually end up with a different brand. I think it's a shame cause Mazda has so many things going for them. Maybe because most of their cars are less roomy than others and the lack of a stationwagon (but a small car brand won't make one for just a small market; West-Europe)
Mazda is more desirable and will hold its value better. It's only downfall is it's engine options. Most are going for small size engines with a Turbo and Mazda are losing sales because off it.
Great car reviews , fair with pros and cons Skyactive petrol in Mazda is way better than the other 2, I would go with the diesel unit but Mazda as the rest, still have problems with DPF
@k pl Mazda rx-8 roatary engines are the worst engines mazdas ever made. I love the new SkyActive engines they are building. Reliable and bulletproof engines.
As someone who’s owned all three at some point, the cx5 looks and feels the most premium, by far. If you’ve got the extra couple grand, take the Mazda and do t look back.
I have a Mazda and they are by far the best driving cars, so fun and easy to drive. But I like the exterior of the Hyundai more. The CX-5 looks kinda alien.
Loved the Sportage, BUT drivers seat was way too uncomfortable. The part of the seat bottom under the thighs created too much pressure when driving. Plus seat was short, wished it had come out further under legs. Seat needs to be more adjustable to drop down more toward floor. Only gripe, otherwise it had it all. Loved the ventilated seats.
Interesting to see that the Tucson was red while the CX-5 and Sportage were blue, in my country promotional images tend to show the colours the other way around!

For me, it's really a comparison between the Tucson and the CX-5.
I find the rear turn signals of the Sportage to be too low
I test drove the Kia and the Mazda with the same trim level. For 140 dollars less a month on the lease I went with the Kia. I didn't notice that much of a difference in the ride.
The CX-5 is the best of those 3. No question.
Southeast Asia... Look at a map. Oh wait isn't England locaded in Eastern Europe next to Bulgaria?
Christian Sigouin Next to Russia dude 👌
no the cars are from southeast asia
Might as well be
@@cameronduff5104 nope not from Southeast Asia
@@cameronduff5104 They don't manufacture any of the vehicles in this video in South East Asia. Dude wtf?
AMEN! I love my 2019 MAZDA CX 5 Grand Touring Reserve (2.5 L. turbo AWD) . Here in Las Vegas, Nevada we can buy 100 octane "racing gas" for $8.00 per gallon.
I got a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited and I absolutely love mine. Going to easily purchase another one once my 2016 dies.
Asphalt8ficionado what kind of mpg are you getting?
In Australia the CX-5 is the no. 1 seller in it's segment(RAV4 may challenge it soon) but we still went with the Tuscon Elite. Whilst the CX has the better drive train and the interior is more lush the Tuscon is the best riding vehicle in it's segment. This is due to it being locally tuned to our conditions. Few other small advantages over the CX, boot space, comfort, spare, tech etc. Would be happy with either and even the Sportage I'm sure. Nice review.
Mazda=rust
no need to even think about it, just choose the mazda.
kilerkai Great😃👍
Crampy space..euww

Mazda fans over here
@@popsandbangs8858 i actually identify more as a korean hater.
CX-5 is awesome, but pricey. I picked up a base model Tucson for 17k for my mom. 10 year warranty, no start/stop, no cvt. Made to last.
I would say the tucson, as I've already got one
@@robkyle2008 Totally agree Tucson should have topped this test.
I've owned VW group cars for years, but hired a Kia Sportage a few months back - the controls were so intuitive that I felt like I knew where everything was after less than an hour of driving. I had always cast them aside as a cheaper alternative but after a few days driving the Sportage, I'd definitely consider it against a Vw or Skoda.
lol the Tiguan is miles ahead of the Sportage...stop kidding yourself.
jp ch I've owned 2 Tiguan's in the last 5 years and really like them. Not saying the Sportage is better, but it's now in the same conversation when it hasn't previously been in my opinion
@@rhysowen9566 The new Sportage does not compete with the Tiguan, it costs around 11k $ in my country, a big difference, it competes with Nissan X-Trail,Tucson,Renault Koleos,Chevy Equinox etc...The Market shifted, now CRV/Tiguan?Rav4 are top tier mid size crossovers.
jp ch ok so you say “tHe TiGuaN Is MiLes aHeAd” but then when they mentioned that the Mazda is better than the Tiguan, you call them out for compacting two cars not in the same class? They never even said it was the same class, just replying to your comment, also if you have a issue with the comparison, why did you start it in the first place?
@@jpch8814 Maybe If you are 60 year old grandma. Tiguan is, as almost every VW, most boring to drive in class, and subjectively(objectively too) worst looking in class. The only good thing comparing to Kia is materials, but if you really care about it there is Peugeot 3008
I just purchased a kia sportage and am loving it , last car was a pain in my a$$ , so glad to be out of an 2012 Optima, wish the kia had the backseat release and more space in the back
I love my Sportage also. This guy complains too much. He should have put out stats for each car somewhere on this vid.
Enjoy your new car!!!
All I could find was the Koreans vs Mazda. It's all about perception. In South Asia people will prefer Kia or Hyundai over Mazda any day.
Your crazy mate cx-5 destroys these cars
So, I just bought a Sportage similar to the one in the test. It's 4 years old, and has 3 years warranty left. A similar aged Mazda has no warranty, and the Hyundai has 1 year. As a used car, the Kia every time, for this reason.
The cx5 looks really good
Especially in that Mazda red
In Sweden, Kia sold most cars in 2018 after Volvo.
Thank god no one cars about what the crazy swedes do
MenacedAssassin hahah first they sold Volvo to Ford and then once it failed it was sold to Geely at a discount...
In the uk there are so many Nissan quasqais
and they will regret in 3 years..... mark my word. they are real piece of work.
@@atmark666 they have 7 years warranty
I like the Tucson and the CX5. All the CX5 needs is a better infotainment system and longer armrest. That armrest is tiny.
Choose the Mazda between these 3.
I agree with your verdict. I will go for the Mazda as well.
Nice review...However i would go with the mazda
It appears that you don't know the meaning of a word "However".
From these three, the cx-5.
It would be interesting to watch the verdict of CX-5 and RAV4.
I didn't know Korea and Japan are located in South East Asia... HAHAHA
fucking tragic, innit
North East Asia
As somebody that lives in South East Asia I felt triggered
Well at least they have tropical weather now. Don't have to deal with winter no more.
@@Ezalian well that's a tropical country for you but we have the freakiest weather's sometimes
The CX5 is the obvious choice, especially if you want luxurious elements in an affordable car
Hyundai Tucson
I have a Mazda and they are nice cars to drive and they are pretty reliable. The maintenance of Mazda is also good price and you can usually make a nice deal with the dealer if you want to trade it in for another Mazda model. My average consumption is 6.2 liters (petrol)
Do you have an MX-5 ?
Tried them all, bought CX5.
...it surpasses all other competitors in that price range imo.
Mazda has always been superior. To imagine this is the "previous generation of kodo Mazda's" and still is better than the newly refreshed contenders is really remarkable. The best premium non premium brand at the moment 😁. Can't wait for the new 6...
Honestly the hyundai looks really good
Noah my thought exactly
i went on a drive with it..really good car
Matt, Korea and Japan are not in the south east, they’re in the east. Nonetheless, this guide is really helpful for potential buyers!
Both the Sportage and the Tucson are better looking than the Mazda in my opinion. The interior of the Mazda feels a bit better but also less roomy, and overall it’s a bit more expensive. I prefer the Sportage or the Tucson overall. It’s hard to choose between the 2.
I have 2015 Cx5. Grand Touring. Got used like it so far.👍👍
OMG Matt, you made the same mistake with CX5's load cover again! You CAN store it underneath the boot floor, as I previously commented under your original CX5 review. You just need to remove the sideboards, that's it.
21.15 29 October. I had a Tucson until I swapped for a Mazda CX-5 petrol automatic. The Tucson was good, the Mazda is better.
If you own a cx5, dont worry about the booth sunscreen, it will fit underneath the floor easily ;) have owned a tucson and a cx5, cx5 is way more classy inside and out and roomier as well
Is it just me or does Matt feel annoyed doing this review?! 🤔
Hyundai tucson is the best purchase. I did alot of time before choosing. Tucson is the undoubted best value and performance. Style is way better than the other vehicles. Tucson is the best choice.
Thanks Europe, for keeping manuals alive 🙏
As well as Asia, Africa, South America, and Australia.
I am just curious about your opinion:
Why would you personally prefer driving a manual, especially like these cars, which are big not really sporty handling cars?
Just curious, because I am currently still driving a manual and it's not that I can't shift, I actually quite enjoy shifting too from time to time. In most day to day driving situations I am really annoyed since traffic jams and slow city driving really sucks.
@@philippsladek99 I'm talking about how manuals are almost completely disappearing from the US car market. Many sports cars/performance sedans are not offered in manual here anymore. I know people that told me about their "weird" Uber/Lyft experience where the driver was "playing" with the gear shifter the whole time. And some of those people have driver's license themselves.
My English isn't that good; ignore the grammatical mistakes..
Not really in Australia, we're mostly an automatic country as well. Honda doesn't even offer a manual Civic (except Type R) in Australia anymore!
@@benhuang2773 oh wow, didn't know that. That's unfortunate.
@@benhuang2773 I always find it interesting to see how big of a difference there is between some countries. I am currently looking for my first (new) car and live in Europe. So far every dealership I've been to looked at me quite strangely for saying I'm looking for an automatic and often would say things like: "oh, well that's surprising. Driving a non manual at your age (I'm 20) and or similar things.
Completely agree. Although you neglected to mention that the diesel was designed in conjunction with Yamaha.
do a drag race, rolling race, and brake test with these 3 cars please!
Iconix just look up the stats...
mazda always has better handling
Sportage and Tucson share the same body. It is practically the same vehicle. Kia Motors Corp. is an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co. The relationship between Volkswagen and Audi is similar.
Howdy, nice video! I personally prefer the Tucson.
I have the hyundai tucson 2.0 4x4 diesel 4x4 has a good suspention than the 4x2 fully loaded beige interior ,its really good better than the audi 185 ps 400 nm of power more features than audi q3
Hyundai tucsson all the way!interior and exterior is amazing
sadly the fastest model is 8 seconds 0-60
They punch above their weight in Australia, their sales figures are second only to Toyota down under!
Love the Sportage, different yet beautiful.
it looks like a frog, a friendly frog
Mazda is more desirable and will hold its value better. It's only downfall is it's engine options. Most are going for small size engines with a Turbo and Mazda are losing sales because off it.
I love my CX-5 turbo. Zoom Zoom.
Mazda is a car you drive everyday, the handling of it is so sporty
Calm down it's a fat lump not an MX5
Kia: We build sporty SUVs
Mazda: i love your sporty exhausts
Sid Thiru kia : Nice wheels by the way
Mazda is far more sporty
Great car reviews , fair with pros and cons
Skyactive petrol in Mazda is way better than the other 2, I would go with the diesel unit but Mazda as the rest, still have problems with DPF
Mazda is really doing a good job. Let's hope they bring rotary back to life.
they plan to, in-line with an electric hybrid model and the wankel engine will be the petrol part.
@@Mogsy28uk Your Mom Stinks of Big Shit!💩🤮🤢🤣🖕🏿
@k pl Mazda rx-8 roatary engines are the worst engines mazdas ever made. I love the new SkyActive engines they are building. Reliable and bulletproof engines.
The mazda CX-5 is better than the others
Loved the ventilated seats.
of course the Mazda wins!
NO,ruclips.net/video/KzXN4YkI8A8/видео.html
Can't remember the last time I put my back seats down so don't see why such a big issue.
The CX-5’s interior quality is in another league to the Tucson and Sportage twins.
The CX-5 is incredibly beautiful. Not even a fan of SUVs but it looks so sleek.
ツLHEK looks like a rip off of that infiniti SUV
I have a 2019 tucson premium se, it is great, lasts and very nice looking, especially in micron grey, but the Tucson n Line looks nice.
Interesting to see that the Tucson was red while the CX-5 and Sportage were blue, in my country promotional images tend to show the colours the other way around!
