    My Dad has a 2016 Kuga (2.0 Petrol Turbo), and my car is a 2017 WRX.
    I have never had issues when driving his Kuga.
    Always felt it handles nicely, and is really easy to drive, and has more than enough power and torque.
    I agree the dash is a bit weird, you soon get used to it.
    As far as style goes, the Kuga is ridiculously better than the other two, especially that Renault. Can't believe that came out on top. I always have though French cars are weird looking.

    The Kugas boot floor can be made flat when the rear seat are down, by repositioning the floor onto the 3 protrusions at the rear of the back seats. This is what they are intended for.

    If you want to compare comfort, get a normal Kuga! Not a ST Line. My vote definitely goes to the Kuga. By the way... did you know that you can rest the boot floor on the 3 bumps at the bottom of the rear seats when you fold down the rear seats... Presto! a flat boot floor.

Since I bought it I havent had any single issues at all. Renault engines are very reliable so you wont go wrong. Personally...I have never own a Nissan but I drove this model (Quashai) several times including the Kuga and other Ford models and I will still stay with Renault. Why? cheap to run with very decent engine. Another point to consider it that the Kadjar is way bigger than the Quashai, you can feel it when you drive them, I mainly got the Kadjar cos I love go for camping and when the weather is shite, I can sleep inside, plenty space....at the end, its your choice.

    With the latest updated Nissan Qashqai seems to be the best from the 3 cars. But how the car handles is also important and can also influence what we each choose.
    A few comments on the Kuga though :
    - This Kuga as ST line which is not fair to compare to both Nissan and Renault , as it has different bushings and other suspension parts then all other versions. This indeed makes the ride more firm and bumpy. This is why I went for the Titanium version and I guarantee is similar comfortable to Nissan Qashqai or Renault Kadjar, with better handling.
    - Space in the back is reasonable decent and the seats are ok in terms of comfort. Plus the nice feature with the reclining back ( which also can give additional space in the back if needed )
    - Boot is pretty big and the boot floor can be adjusted to overcome the ridge when you fold the seats .
    - You always complain about the location of the lever to fold the back seats. ( in this video and many others) That is quite a good idea not to have them in the boot, but rather back next to the seats. I see most cars have them in the boot with the recent models. Let me give you an example : with hands free boot opening, there are times when you want to put something in the boot but don't want to open the it , either because it takes 1 min to open and close or you cant because of your parking position. So you can fold the seats down from the back door ( in the Kuga at least ) and reach into the boot space an grab or put something.
    - I like the seating position in the KUGA where you don't see the front of the car. Most cars don't have this. But this is personal. Either way when you park , you use the sensors :P

  • @jonathanhicks140
    @jonathanhicks140 2 года назад

    I tried a few & bought the Kuga in a 2 litre diesel AWD, manual gearbox spec. Whilst by no means a proper 4x4, it’s capable of dealing with very poor potholed tracks, some mud & snow & sloping wet grass in a far better manner than a standard 2 wheel drive vehicle. It is sufficient for my off the tarmac needs without sacrificing decent fuel economy or on road handling in the way a dedicated off road 4x4 (which is capable of going far further into the wilderness than I require) would in 99% of my dat to day driving. Also servicing & repairs/ parts are reasonably priced compared to other makes (not that I’ve required the latter 2 yet) & it has the best load capacity of the 3 on test with the back seats down, which is what I need for a weeks fishing holiday with a car full of a friends & my kit to cover all river conditions we may encounter.
    If the QQ were swapped for an X Trail with AWD, then I may be tempted, but the diesel on offer is only 1.7 litres and it’s a bit anaemic compared to the 2 litre in the Kuga; if Nissan would put a decent 2 litre diesel with around 180 - 200 bhp in the X Trail then it be a viable option for many people, particularly those who want to tow with it, which I don’t, but I know many who do.

    I am moving from Qashqai (QQ) to a Kuga. The Qashqai is just a raised car with tech thrown in to sell them to people that need the unnecessary tech. QQ size, and drive feel is 1/2 way between a car and an SUV. QQ and Renault are Semi SUV. Kuga is proper SUV, wider, longer, taller, more passenger space, more boot space. Handling is fine. Suspension is better, seating is better. It feels better built. K9K 1.5 diesel renault engine on my QQ was giving 70mpg on motorway and 50mpg combined. It is frugel and has enough torque and power on motorway. QQ drives like a smaller car than an SUV and will give a big saving on fuel and road tax. But having owned a QQ for 5 months, it was too small, and already feels like it will age quicker, engine exhaust noisier already. Kuga dorotorq is a stronger engine. Kuga for me all day long as it is just larger, more comfort, more practical, a better all round vehicle that fells like it will last. I really like the QQ but I really prefer a proper SUV than a car AND as SUVs go you Kugas are well priced, good bang for buck and can usually get a good deal with Ford. Also, Ford 1 year extended warranty was only £200. Go Qashqai type raised car if you want lowest running cost but less space. Go Kuga if you want more space, better safety with slightly higher but not excessive running cost.

  • @martinjames6942
    @martinjames6942 5 лет назад +6

    Kuga is so much better. I have a Qashqai (QQ) and very soon changing to a (used) Kuga. The Qashqai 1.5 diesel does 70mpg +, mixed driving 50 to 60 mpg and I really like driving it but changing to Kuga for these reasons:- Kuga feels like a proper SUV not just a tall car. QQ and Renault are just tall cars. Kuga has more space everywhere. Kuga has better seats, is wider so less cramped in front -widthwise, much more legroom for rear passengers and much more boot space. Better engine on Kuga.. I have concerns about how good/strong the QQ engine is compared to the 2litre dutatorq in Kuga. older QQs diesels seem noisy and rattle like a bag of gravel, it may be economical but thats not everything, engine should be the least of my concerns but isn't on QQ. Better Suspension on Kuga. QQ has good suspension with low body roll, Kuga is noticably better on rough surfaces, about the same roll in corners. Paintwork, QQ paint looks very thin inside doors and on pillars. Chassis, Kuga looks better made underneath. QQ great to park, QQ already has a steering knock. Kuga is the largest SUV size that seems to fit most car park bays fairly easily. Kuga drives like the QQ just feels a little larger so driving experience fairly close. To me Kuga is the ideal 5 seater SUV car. Later Kuga models have reversing cameras but to be honest you don't "need" cameras. Fords/ Kuga are generally well priced and can always get a good deal with Fords. Nissan want to load their cars with tech and charge more for it but remember you are buying a car so the car specifics should take priority and the equipment second. If you just want a tall car with excellent economy and not a Kuga then consider QQ or Renault with the 1.5 dci (Renault K9K) engine gives 50mpg minimum town/ mixed and on a motorway between 60mph and 70mph, you will get 70 to 75mpg from these on motorway, yes they are that fuel efficient.

    Have nothing against diesel (some are very clean, and run nicely!), but strange that the Nissan 1.5 diesel is 'recommended' when the Mayor of London's website (google "mayor of london newer vehicle checker") states that it emits up to 12 times more NOx than it should (roughly equivalent to two Euro6 buses), the Kadjar's diesel is not much better - and where a Tiguan diesel for example actually complies with Euro 6. Strange. (I think the answer might be SCR?).

    • @vanishingpoint5673
      @vanishingpoint5673 6 лет назад +5

      It's interesting how 'dirty' in real-world on-road emission testing the popular Nissan/Renault diesels are! It's not such a big issue now, as a lot of customers of SUV's and CUV's are switching to petrol engines (ironically, until the recent mandated fitting of petrol particulate filters to direct injection petrol engines, they were actually very bad for micro-particles; and also petrol contains benzene, a known carcinogen...). But when fuel prices start rising again, the pendulum will swing the other way, and fuel guzzling petrol-engined SUV's will lose! People will want a clean 'economical' diesel with low CO2...!

I thinks its the best balance of spec against pricing to be fair, and that tyre noise goes away with using the 17 inch deeper tyre over the standard 19 inch on the S spec model. Tyre choice will help as well as i have found. The 1.5 is a great balance of power and economy, and the unit is used in a whole host of platforms...including Mercedes...what does that tell you. Wth the extra length on the rear of Kadjar that gives you better boot space and a non step boot floor that helps loading, I recon its a Great value car in my opinion.

      Go for a Vignale model if you have the money, then you'll experience something like x3 ,q3 but sadly more reliable than the Germans , wich have lost alot of ground in therms of reliability. I own an X3 2.0d 2012 and my father a 2.5t Kuga also from 2012, and what can I say is that I put aaaaloooot alot of money into X3, first, the turbo wich cost me 1500$, second the catalyst system wich only to clean it cost me 700$, and overall , just not worth at all, that Kuga I used to laugh at her runs almost 200.000km and it didn't had a single problem, aand it was 4000$ cheaper than my X3........I really do consider a Kuga Vignale now as a new car, the reliability it has is just astonishing.

    I´ve tested all of them 3 and 2 more cars (VW Tiguan and Dacia Duster). The most comfortable Car was the VW i have to say, but it also was the one with the highest Price. Dacia was the cheapest and the worst to drive for me. The Qashqai is a cool Looking car, but also the Kadjar. So which car did I buy? I choosed the Renault Kadjar (Facelift), which i could buy in the Zen Edition for 19000 Euro. Comfort is Top and I Love the Interieur, which is (for me) not too much punched up with technical Gadgets.
    And to all Qashqai Drivers: Yes, you have also got a really good car!
    And to all VW Drivers: Yes, you have the best driving compact SUV (for me), but it´s a Little bit too expensive.

    Update my car has been in the dealership for 4 months. I have all the paperwork service and diagnostic reports etc etc to support my car engine was faulty before the point of purchase. The dealership, Nissan customer care & Nissan finance agree that the engine was indeed faulty before I bought the car. At the moment the dealership have to perform certain diagnostics on the engine to find out where the noise is coming from as the warranty company need this before they will sign off a new one. If you type 2014 Nissan Qashqai engine fault in a search engine take a look at the results I have no words.
    I payed for an extended service plan after the complimentary ones ran out. In this service plan it says that I get a courtesy car while the car is being serviced I have had no car for 4 months.
    The only thing stopping me from going directly to a solicitor is the lady at Nissan customer care she is an absolute credit to them. I honestly believe she is trying to help. So much red tape to get them to finally admit this known fault £19500 for a car that needs a new engine 3 years into a 4 year + finance package. I WILL not give up this fight. If you read this please like this post to help my plight.
    I have heard there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Watch this space fingers crossed 🤞

    I wouldn't buy any of these, I've had a 2015 Nissan Qashqai (basically the same thing as a Kadjar) and its 1.5 diesel was plagued with reliability issues and is poorly made all round, this became apparent from the month after I bought it, I also feel the Kuga was a half-assed attempt by Ford to get into the crossover segment, its ergonomically hampered and just not worth paying good money for. At the beginning of this year I bought a Hyundai Tucson and I would never go back, the 1.7 diesel is excellent, build quality and reliability have been excellent all round as well. Its slightly dull but its a great 'real car'. Plus the 5 year warranty and 5 year free servicing I was offered sealed the deal! Its Ireland's best selling car 2 years in a row for a reason!

      My parents, who are happy to live with a car offering no acceleration whatsoever, ended up getting a Kia Sportage (Which is probably more similar to the Tucson than the Cashcow and the Codger are to eachother) after going shopping for a Tucson and finding that even by their standards it felt too wallowy and vague on the road for them to enjoy, with the difference ni feel purely down to the suspension setup.
      The Koreans are doing a better job for the money than anyone else at the moment and they're not unreliable either and have great warranties - there was more left on the Kia's warranty second hand than you'll get buying new from most of the more established brands. They were warned off the Nissan Cashcow as they were told that even by built to a price small SUV standards it was underpowered, which also eliminated the Renault Codger.

      Hux for looks the 3008 gt line, for driving dynamics the Ateca, and for all round the Rav 4 hybrid. That has good space, an ok interior, looks OK, and the powerplant is rated at 200bhp, and will return in the real world 45mpg.
      The 3008 is a sunning looker, in and out. Especially inside. I can see a hybrid model replacing the diesel the offer. The 1.3l 3cyl petrol turbo, backed up with a motor would make a nice economical engine with lots of torque fill.
      Though I like toyotos aproch with a relatively lazy 2.5l NA petrol unit and motor. But I can only see pug using what the 3cyl of they go down that route.
      Peronally I have noting against diesel, but the worm has turned, and anyone would be mad to buy a diesel today, as in 5 years time, they will be worth next to noting. Then it may be a good buy if your planning to keep to its end of life, and you don't live or regally use an area that has additions diesel charges like London. Or any other city that may (will) of introduced similar pollution charges.

      The real issue is the fact that the 3008 has no AWD atm. All those 3 in the test, like the Ateca, Karoq, Tiguan, CX-5, CR-V, Grandland X, Sportage, Tucson and RAV 4 have the AWD option...

      Andrei Petre True but who really takes these cars offroading in the real world. And as for the added grip, you really don't want to throw these SUV's around sharp corners too much bc they're really heavy. The big selling point of smaller or bigger SUV's is that they're comfortable.

      Indeed they are not offroaders but buying a suv without AWD is redundant imo. You can buy a break model for less the money and you get more comfort, better cornering and a bigger trunk if you really don't need AWD. The only advantage of the suv is the higher driving position.

    I was looking at the Kuga last year (pre Ateca) . I liked it the best out the then current offerings. Only in titanium an TX spec. The biggest issue then was it's engine choices. Their mpgs was terrible.
    I fell upon the rave 4 hybrid, and found that seems to be the best overall SUV. The Atecta the best handling, and the 3008 the best looking.
    Depending on one's needs, if you want a smaller SUV, that's the only 3 you need to think about.
    Saying all that, unless you need something a little higher, for better in/egress, I'd go (and am) for a good old estate. Drive better, and offer the same if not more usable space, better mpg (on average)... Sadly a dying breed.
